I am being contacted by users who are openly lying about their ages to get around my posted age preference.

My preferred age range goes up to 49 and I selected that age for a variety of reasons. I understand that women often use a "9" as a cut-off, 39, 49, etc. Some men seem to think it is ok to falsify their age when they set up their profile so they can circumvent our filters eg: age 51 poses as 48, then indicate in their profile that they are really over 50 and we should forgive his little "white lie".

I recently reported a user who did this and his profile promptly disappeared. If POF moderators deleted him, I thank you. Today, I noticed he is back and using the same routine. I have also come across users with multiple profiles stating different ages, supposedly to contact women with different age maximums.

Is this acceptable? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I will continue to block and report any users who lie about their age and contact me.

Virtually every Book out there helping Losers to score with the Ladies recommend fibbing a Bit on Age, Body Sizes, etc., then soft-peddle them for Acceptability. Just don't be surprised, its only straight out of the Standard Dating Playbook Manual.

E-Mail Block these Jokers on the Spot too. Don't encourage them to lie to others either.

If the first thing a guy does is lie about ANYTHING, including his age, then why would anyone want to date him?! I'm new here and my problem is that I can't figure out how to report someone. I first met him through another dating site, and he is taking TEN YEARS off his real age! PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO REPORT HIM! Thank you!

I so agree! Why would a woman want to date anyone who lies. One time I met a guy who told me online he was 5'10". The first thing I said to him when I met him in person was "You're no 5'10!" And this guy was concerned that I might be lying about my weight!

The moderator gave great advise. Follow the links in his post and you'll see how to report a user.

They lie about those Things such as Age, because its easy to do, its easy to run through to the "Forgive Me" Finish Line ...

By the Time you actually meet anyone else he is associated with such as a Sister or Friend, or other Ways to find out how old he/she actually is, you are likely already quite a Ways "into him" and "involved", usually having to "forgive" because you are already quite smitten/in Love.

By that Stage these little White Lies are not considered "That Bad" and you hope it just doesn't get any worse.

Speaking of profile misrepresentation, I was wondering about something else on profiles.

I seem to notice a considerable number of users who answer "no" to the "do not do drugs" question, but then refer to their recreational drug use in the body of their profile, or even include it in their interests.
Should this also be a reportable offense?

I assume that, just like someone who is deliberately falsifying their age, an admitted drug user who is selecting "no" as their drug use selection, is only doing it to by-pass message restrictions.

Sorry if I'm seen as trying to switch the topic of the OP's thread. But I thought that the 2 situations were similar enough that I didn't need to start a seperate thread.

This happens a lot on PofF.

In the Ontario forum we have a discussion on this very thing. Many responders in that discussion admitted they abuse drugs either in their profile about me section OR in the forums, but they answer NO to drug use.

I'm aware that the discussion about putting "yes" or "no" in that space, is actually redundant in these forums. Which is why I'd like to hear from a mod or the admin, as to whether or not it should be considered a reportable offense if someone's obviously lying in their response to that question.

I currently have no such message restrictions on my profile. But I do know of several other people who do have the "must not do drugs" restriction; and most of them chose that restriction because they specifically don't want to be bothered by the person who's trying to justify their drug use by making the "it's only marijuana" argument.

The admitted pot smoker, who's chosing to put "no" in that space, is, in my opinion, showing no respect for the people who do not wish to correspond with a pot-smoker

That happened to me a couple of times when I first joined the site and went on the odd date here and there. Both showed up for the date blazing and did use the "it's only pot" arguement. I had a third guy admit to changing his drug use to 'no' to get around my filters and initiate contact. Their little tricks backfired and I speak to none of them now. Not only did they disrespect my request for not wanting to date drug users, but they lied to boot. Two strikes...I never stuck around for strike three.

Yeah, tell me about this one! The last three women I've met from this site CLEARLY lied by a minimum of ten years. I don't care about a year or two, its not a deal breaker but miss a decade? Its very discouraging to say the least.

For me, any lie or deliberate misrepresentation is a deal breaker! If someone thinks it's ok to lie about little things like age or height, they're going to lie about other things too. Telling even a "white" lie tells me everything I need to know about the character of the person and they are not for me. Others may be more forgiving.

Yes, because the Activity is illegal, and POF cannot be a Medium to announce/advertise it.

Any false Profile Entries are subject to Account Deletion. All it takes is a few People to report it, and its pretty well gone.

Report them please.
