| Profile: Online Status' - What Do They Mean
Posted: 6/14/2006 7:09:20 PM | When I look at "My Matches" usually when people are online, it shows the "IM User" option underneath their name. But sometimes it just says "User Online" and it's not a clickable link. A few times, it was after I viewed the profile, I went back to my matches to find the IM user option to message them, and it changed from IM User to User Online, so I could no longer message them.
Is this a bug, or does it mean they closed out all browser windows without actually logging off or what? | |

IM User or IM User
User is now Online and they have their IM turned on via their Mail Settings to receive IMs. Clicking on either coloured link will initiate a chat request with that user.
Online
User is now Online and they don't have their IM turned on.
(They may howver have their IM feature set to "My Favourites Only", whereby only the friends would see a status of IM User).
anything Online
that user is online based on what crteria is used with the word online.
e.g.
online My City
online My State/Province
Women Online
Men Online
etc...
When a user turns their IM feature on or off, or logs out of POF, there may be a small lag in updating certain areas of the site that displays their status.
Turn your IM on or off here --> Mail Filters and Other Settings

If you block someone from emailing you, or they don't meet your contact requirements, do they still show up in your "My Matches" page, and if so, will it just say "Online Now" even if they have IM's allowed, since you are blocked? | |

 | The IM link will usually show as being "Online" for 15 minutes after they have logged off. |

Posted: 6/20/2006 10:53:09 AM | My settings have always been IM on, and I have placed the broadest aspects I can to allow anyone to IM me, but people still say they can't IM me. Sometimes my e-mail is deleted withing a day after recieving it, not 30 as it says it is supposed to be. It isn't as if I get hundreds of them...maybe 10 a month if I am lucky.
I log in, etc, but, as I said...IM doesn't go.
I dunno...maybe I need the "PoF settings for Dummies" handbook. | |

Download it, follow the Instructions I posted, all very simple.

unless they're unaware of it being turned on, I would take it as a yes, but of course that doesn't necessarily mean by everyone - they're not going to be interested in the world contacting them - right?
how do you know if they are interested in really getting them I have them to my av's only
skip the IM, use email, it's free - if you get a response, that's half the battle towards interest. | |

When I see that someone on my favourites page is online and has "Instant Messenger" , I know I can click on it and get connected.
However, sometimes, the "Instant Messenger" disappears, although the person is still online.. Does that mean they have connected to another profile and are chatting via IM?
Also can someone be IM'd while they are already connected to another profile?
Sorry if this sounds confusing... it's not easy to describe the issue sometimes.

Because if you try and email them and they have it set to must live withing a certain distance then you can't message them so I am really hoping that they put it back to the way it was where you could not online see that they were online but also to letting you im them. | |
