Question about profile settingsPage 1 of 1
I recently stopped smoking.
So, I changed my profile to Non-Smoker.
However, the system will not allow me to contact anyone that has selected Non-smoker from their wish list.

Any ideas?

I quit smoking about three months ago, and then changed it on my profile. I haven't had any problems sending messages to people that have non smokers on their profiles. I changed my profile about a month after I stopped. So far so good!

Sweetcars58...are you getting a pop-up window when you try to update your profile?

Because that could be caused by all the sequences of different dots and symbols you have on your profile.

What I am getting .......? enter a proper discription...

I have tried to delete it and all.. and it will not work.. what is going on.. it will not even let me delete anything from my profile..

You're no longer allowed to enter long strings of some characters, such as periods, as the link you were given in Msg 6 says, so you won't be able to update your account as long as they remain. You also can't have a profile with nothing in it, so you won't be allowed to delete it all. You can find out exactly what the minimum character count is by looking in the Frequently Asked Questions at the top of this forum.

Because your Marital Status in your Edit Profile states: Prefer Not To Say
... you are lobbed in with the married Guys.

Change your Setting to something else like: Single

There are many reasons people don't get emails.
Your profile is pretty minimal for instance. May I suggest? Find the 'Profile Review' forum and ask for some advice there on ways to jazz it up a bit.

Good luck!

For some reason there is a 75 mile limit on people who can contact me. Two questions -- I have tried to eliminate that limit but when I click on "edit" it takes me to the mail settings page and there is no place to change or delete the limit.

If I can't get rid of it, will messages that I send to someone farther than 75 miles away be delivered, and will they be able to message me back? Thanks.

It's on the right hand side of the page, directly under the spot where you set the age restrictions. Change it to 20,000 miles, and remember to click on the Update button at the bottom of the page when you're done.

Directly under the age choices there is the word "limit:" but no little box to make any change. I have tried both Firefox and IE.

Are you using something other than a computer to access the site? Those boxes often screw up if you're trying to use the site with a phone or similar device.

That's my problem. It says "within:" but there's no box to show the choices. The very next thing after "within" is "Allow a user to see". I am using a computer, not a smart phone or anything. Maybe if I fiddle around with the screen settings? This is the first site I've ever run across, and I've had this computer and screen for three years, that a settings box would just not be there.

Changing screen settings didn't help. I went all the way from the bottom to the top in the screen resolutions in Windows and it is still the same. Where I live is 150 miles from the next town of any size, so that makes this pretty much useless if my limit is locked in at 75. Now if I respond to someone's profile in that other town, will that person get my message? And can she message me back?

Once you have made contact with another user, they will be able to respond regardless of any profile restrictions you may have.

I am using a computer, not a smart phone or anything.

If you're using a computer, the only other thing I've seen work to fix the problem is clearing cookies and temporary internet files. You say you've tried using two different browsers, so I doubt if that will help in this case, but it's worth a shot.

Instructions are in this thread if you need them:

I just downloaded and used Google Chrome to see if that helped. With no cookies and a fresh, never used browser, the problem is still there. All I can figure is my screen settings somehow crowd the box off the screen, but I reset my settings in control panel to every possible setting and the problem persists. I guess all that matters is that someone I contact will be able to message me back, since no one is going to message me first anyway.

Gender
Age Between:
Country
Within:
First contact messages must be:
Allow a user to see that I viewed their profile: (HELP)

you should have same set up as this, with the option boxes in the spaces.

the "within" above is the distance section....if you have this and can change distance (75 miles - 20, 000 miles) dont forget to update settings down near bottom

i am assuming that you are in mail settings and not in profile edit or any where else.

if no joy and if you want to, delete your present account and start new one, you can keep same name etc, just copy and save profile text if you want or re-write.

good luck

extra...one more thought, click profile view (yours) scroll down to bottom of your profile, where your mail settings are....all your settings are listed here, at the 75 miles there should be a blue edit link, click this and it should take you to your mail settings, if you dont have this blue edit link, then something is wrong and account delete might be your only option.

I have all those choices, with option boxes for each question except "within".

I give up. I guess if someone can message me back, I'll write the first message. That's the way it works out anyway. Thanks all.
