This section is mostly being used by women... I'll ad search options in later, after adding some servers, this option is intensive!. For now changing your My Matches pages will apply to the marriage page as well.

What about the size of the indexes needed to access that data and keep in mind there are a few thousand emails sent every minute causing endless locks. As well tens of thousands of pageviews from users reading emails every minute. Hard drives are only so fast... In thoery everything is possible. Its a dating site if you've messaged someone and after 20 days haven't met them etc whats the point of retaining that email?

How is POF on the iphone now? I downloaded a emulator and than changed a bunch of stuff to make it somewhat compatible. Who knows if that actually worked though!

SEO accounts for 1 /10th of 1 % of traffic. Matching filtering requests etc hurt the site more than they help. All these matching requests etc face 2 fundemental problems. 1. Everyone goes throught the searches etc and looks for their most perfect match excluding 99% of people in their region. 2. People are willing to date up to 20 or 30% of people given the chance...

Searches will all be a bit different now... I've excluded everyone over 50 from the new changes so your results should be back to normal now. If you message only women without children you will see only women without children over the entire site. This was always supposed to work this way but there was a flaw preventing it from working correctly.

Deleted 20 million messages this morning and it knocked out the site a bit as we ran out of hard drive space. Searches were messed up because replication to one of the slave databases hung and generated no errors, so i didn't know anything was actually wrong. We should be ok now... THis was the biggest update i've done in 5 years and things take a while to sort out..

I'm a writer for The Boston Globe doing a piece on college kids on sites like plentyoffish. Research shows that more and more 18-21 year olds are using sites like this, and I want to hear some specific stories. So I'd really love to hear responses, either here or to lbennett@globe.com. Here's the big question: Why did you decide to try out online dating, and how has it worked so far? Do you think online dating is a natural outgrowth of social networking sites like Facebook? Blew a circuit knocked out much of the power to the site. I couldn't bring the site up because over 1 million people would try and login. SO spent the day upgrading the site and machines that host the core database. We went from a machine with 64 gigs of ram and 8 CPU's to a machine with 512 gigs of ram and 32 cpu's.... Much of the site will still act kind of funny but things should be a lot faster and work smoother. Things will be back to normal soon.

AOL wanted to start collecting fees for the use of their userplane They always charged, and it was my single largest expense more than my hosting costs. UK traffic has risen 14% in 4 days since it was disabled, and even more now that its been removed today.

Evidently userplane is being discontinued by AOL, or so i'm told by june 15th. Site usuage is far higher and less idiots when the IM is disabled so i'm going to leave the IM off.

The users who got free serious status where members that... 1. Actively tried looking for others. 2. Did not message users looking for intimate encounters. 3. Weren't blocked or reported by other users. 4. Answer their emails. 5. Users that weren't rude. 6. Users who i detected that are actually serious and are using the site for that purpose. ( Tossed in a few random ones to, to see the effects)

I might be able to do it for the serious members. If I allowed everyone to block users they'd block around 500 of them and with 10 million + users its virtually impossible to search a table of hundreds of millions of records super fast especially with the queries being so complicated to start with.
