Great idea and all, however (and this is just a rough guestimate) it takes much more electrical power to separate hydrogen and oxygen than you get from burning the two.

Cops and FireFighters
Posted:
9/1/2009 2:12:12 PM
Everyone hates cops...until they need one. I respect PEOPLE, not professions. A cop that I randomly meet (Even when I am speeding) gets the same respect anyone else gets. Until they come off as an ***hole by lecturing me, baggering me, or just being a jerk. Whcih a lot of them do. They are the same as young soldiers. Young, dumb, full of cum...and eager to make a name for themselves. Usually it wears off.
Everyone deserves intial respect, it's up to them to keep it or give it away.

BREAKING NEWS: Sen. Ted Kennedy Dies At Age 77
Posted:

I don't feel like I have to 'remember someone for their greatness' just because they were a senator. Polticians are some of the most hated members of our society, and Ted was no different. He was a far left guy and I think he did a lot to put this country on the wrong track. Sure, I feel bad for the family, but other than that, he's no different than any other crooked politician.

Afghanistan War
Posted:
8/24/2009 8:42:22 AM
Well OP, there are rules in war. We signed an agreement *Geneva* to fight according to certain conventions. The reason there is so much collateral damage is not because of us. It's because of them. We fight according to our enemies. The ONLY way to stop gurellia type warfare is to start disrupting lives. When someone shoots at us, or sets an IED off. You stop the convoy, hit the battle drill 1A React to Contact, and you go disrupt lives. You kick in doors and you make life miserable for everyone in the neighborhood. Eventually those people will get tired of getting messed with and will start pointing out and standing up against the Taliban.

Even if the rules are strict, you are PAID to follow them. And they are a term of your employment. Go somewhere else and work. And don't give me that crap about not being able to get another job. There is 10% unemployment, that means that 90% of the people that want jobs, have them.

Shoes - on or off?

Well, shoes give your feet the support they need when doing strenuous activities. Just like you don't ride horses who don't have horseshoes. Plus you are less likely to get injured if you stump your toe or drop something heavy.

As an Airborne Soldier I can attest first hand that I have problems with relationships. Women don't like a man who comes with baggage and other obligations. A lot of what we do is very dangerous. It's a totally different lifestyle than the civilian world. Most of the guys on our teams are type A people. The hardest job in the army is the army wife. It takes a VERY strong women to put up with a soldier, especially one that's a member of a special team.

Where would the planes go

Planes require an atmosphere to operate. So...if they atmosphere disappeared, then the planes would crash. If the earth vanished, then its gravitational pull would also vanish and the planes would be launched into space.

If you have a degree in something like:
English
Education
Physical Education
Graphic Design
BUSINESS!!!
Art History
Music
Or things of that nature, this is a short list. You very likely will be doing work that has nothing to do with your degree. If you have a degree just because you thought it would be fun its your own fault. I hate hearing people's excuses for why they did or didn't do something. People, a degree is not hard to get, nor is it hard to find money to pay for. My parents never paid a dime after highschool.
Medical degrees are tough to get, and very valuable when you finish. Same with engineering degrees. Now, I have buddies who graduated with a PHYSICS degree, but they are driving a school bus. I also worked in a car shop with a mechanic who had a physics degree. Both of these people make less than they should if doing something with that degree. But I also have a buddy who is an electrican (No degree, only a state certificate) and makes 100k + a year.
Making money is all about work. If you work hard and you strive to move on, you will. Or you can feel sorry for yourself and make excuses and be poor. You decide.

The Gym Shooter, a right wing conservative?
Posted:
8/14/2009 6:18:47 AM
I'm one of these right wingers that you guys talk about. And I can say that as a whole we don't believe in killing people, hate, racism, sexism, or any other 'isms" out there. We love our freedom and we love our guns, but we don't want to use those to hurt anyone. We don't have a problem with black people. Conservatives care more about how their tax dollars are collected and spent rather than the color of your skin. We care about abortion, and limited government.
The nutjobs that go and and bomb abortion facilities or shoot up ladies gyms are NOT conservatives. They are terrorists. The KKK, white supremists groups are NOT conservatives. They are not in line with middle America conservatives. They are TERRORISTS. They are enemies of the state, not 'far right conservatives'. Reagan was a far right conservative. I am a far right conservative, WE are not terrorists.

Look people. You can sit here and make excuses and feel sorry for yourself all day long. OR, you can be a man and take responsibility for your actions. MANY MANY MANY people live happily making lower wages. They aren't in debt, and they get by without having "strokes". If you want to make the big bucks, set your self up for success and go do it. Don't sit here and complain about it.
Now me personally, I like making money. So...I did what I had to do to get out of college without 10 + years of debt repayment. There are other options besides winning the lottery or miltary service. The reason we have so many financial woes in this country is partially because people live beyond their means.
If any of you listen to Dave's show, he has callers that call in 2-3 years after they start. It didn't take them 50 years. Some of these callers pay off $80k or so, while only making $30k a year for several years. It is doable. Quit making excuses for yourself. I'll leave you with a quote that I learned a while back.
"You can't listen to people who tell you that you can't do something. Those are the ones that can't. They think in terms of 'why can't I?' instead of 'how do I?'. The answre to 'why can't I?' always ways comes in the form of an excuses." - Col. Turner

I wouldn't say that it is MAD money. Sure we get a housing allowance, but just because you get that doesn't mean you have to spend it on a house. For example, lets say my BASE pay, meaning what I make based on rank alone is $25,000/year, I might get $1000/month for a housing allowance. So in total for the year I make $37000. I'm stil having to pay for my housing out of that. That housing allowance is money that I'm not directly getting my check. So its not like I make mor than anyone else.
Also what you have to consider is what I have to do to get that money. I put in 70-80 hours a week. I could make A LOT more working as an Engineering Consultant. I take a HUGE pay cut to be in the military. All of that money that I recieved from the Military to help with school was NOT given to me. I earned every penny. While most college students work at a burger king, grocery store, golf course, etc...I was getting my face pushed into the dirt. I worked for all of that. It was NOT given to me.

I do not own my own home. I am a soldier so my living expenses are taken care of via housing allowances. Some of my education expenses were also taken care of. But I worked for every dime of that money and I made decisions that gave me financial freedom.

Can White Americans REALLY judge what is racist and what is not?
Posted:
8/13/2009 4:06:14 AM
I don't see why I, a white man, can't call racism when I see it.
Racism doesn't mean that a black guy gets arrested by a white guy. Or that the white guy does better than the black guy. Racism is when a color has an unfair advantage. Not when things don't go in your favor. I think that's an observation that more American's should have.

You are right that we should have time to enjoy life, but only within our means. One of the big problems that our Nation faces is that too many people are living beyond their means.
Dave hits it on the head when he says "live like no one else...so that you can live like no one else". I have a bachelors and I am DEBT FREE!. Paying it off definitely has its advantages.

Car brake question
Posted:
7/28/2009 8:57:53 PM
Sounds to me like they changed your brakes, but didn't bleed them out afterwards. That's why you have to push it all the way to the floor. It was a mistake made by the mechanic, not your car manufactuer.
Bleeding the brakes involves letting the brake fluid flow freely out of the system and pushing the pedals down to the floor to flush out any air bubbles.

Has anyone seen S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford? Hes gone Missing
Posted:
6/25/2009 6:30:58 AM
As a strong conservative from South Carolina,
I think that Sanford was a GREAT governor, but anytime a politican puts himself in a position to be extorted and blackmailed, ....
I think he would continue to be a good governor, but he's lost his credibility. He's not fit to be a conservative leader.
And NOBUSHLOVER, before you throw stones at republicans again, the list of democrats who have disgraced their office is very long as well. And many FAMOUS politicans have had affairs
Tomas Jefferson
FDR
JFK
Clinton
Spitzer
John Edwards
That guy in Louisanna or Arkansaw who got caught with $90,000 bucks hidden in the freezer.
Not that I'm bashing anyone, I think that these guys deserve forgiveness, I forgive Sanford, because it was a very brave thing that he did, however I do suspect that had he not come out iwth it, someone else would have reported it eventually. But he should be held accountable. He's really embarrassed our party and I think he should step down.

guns at home
Posted:
6/21/2009 10:22:41 PM
The fact that police offeres HAVE guns is a deterent. Perhaps that's why so many of them never have to use it. And that's the point. No body wants to take a life.
As a soldier, I can tell you that there are many soldiers in COMBAT zones, that carry a weapon, infact, all of them do. And the VAST majority never have to fire them, even in a hot zone.
Quoting the amount of times a gun wasn't used to solve a problem is no way to prove that we don't need them.
If someone doe'nst want to own a gun there is nothing wrong with that. But I should still have the right to protect myself if I want.

Again, conservative principles aren't that complicated NOBUSHLOVER.
You can't blame ALL conservatives for the acts of crooked politicians. There are just as many leftist polticians that do damage to our country as well. America has a politican problem, not a right wing or left wing problem.
Again, as a STRONG STRONG STRONG conservative
1. Pay for what you spend in Congress
2. Lower taxes
3. Less governemnt (Yes, I agree that wire tapping is wrong, and there are thousands of conservatives that don't like the patriot act).
4. Abortion is murder (and yes, most conservatives are against this, the reason it doesn't come up in Congress is because it isn't going to go anywhere. It's a political career ender)
5. Strong national defense. Respect through superior fire power. Peach through having a bigger gun that the other guy. Throwing money at missle defense has done wonders. WE haven't been hit with a missle!
All I want is to be left alone by the government. Does that make me a terrrorist? I am an Army guy. I serve my country, I love my job.
I believe strongly in the 2nd ammendment, but nut jobs like Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, Leftists like Rosie O'Donnell...LEFTISTS are the ones that want to pass anti gun legislation.
True conservatives are people like Senator Jim Demint from South Carolina. You can't just pile us all in the same group as Timothy McVeigh and Hitler. That's a tactic that the left uses to demonize us.
Remember, it was DEMOCRATS who wanted Slavery. It was DEMOCRATS that started the Welfare state. Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN.

There is a difference between Facists (People who hate jews, black people, and everyone else)...and Conservatives.
I belive in:
*Small Government, facists do not.
*Abortion is murder
*Leave my guns alone
*low taxes
*Very little Gov intervention, I don't need, or want them to mess with me, help me...or do anything else for me. I want to do it myself.
*strong national defense
There are loonies everywhere, and there are left wing extremists everywhere as well. When you have a government that wants to TAKE what other's have EARNED and give it to those who have NOT EARNED it under the notion that they are less fortunate, you are going to have people who wants to protect what they worked for.
However, to compare conservatives to Nazies is not true. I'm an army guy myself, I signed up to help people, and to protect my country. Not to commit acts of terrorism against it.

Yes, we all look like and dress like this in the US. Just like all of you Scotsmen dress in those poofy kilts all day and eat nothing but haggis.
It's Hollywood, for Chrissake.
Oh. and by the way, "Dawg" does not arrest anyone. Those people have already been arrested but are out on temporary bail pending their court hearing. They flee the terms of their bail and are now subject to bail enforcement. "Dawg" is merely a bail enforcement officer with some Hollywood backing.
And "Dawg" would be the subject of derision and gender insensitive epithets if he showed up where I live. We don't carry no sissy pepper spray in our thigh holsters.
Curious why a Scotsman would choose the name of the first Muslim commander to wrestle Jerusalem away from the Christian Crusaders?
That Mace is hardly sissy. You ever been hit with it? Dog probably does have a gun on him that you don't see.

I don't think I should have to apologize for anything. I wasn't alive back then. I think our Senate needs to be concentrating on things more important than a problem that doesn't exist.
You can't legislate people to stop being racist. You can however teach people be mentally stronger, and to not let racism get them down.

Energy use, fossile fuels, electric cars...etc
Posted:

Therefore, to believe that burning oil, coal, natural gas, or anything else, does not have an affect on us or the planet seems rather unlikely and silly to me. Therefore, if we can replace burning things and filling the atmosphere with harmful chemicals through some other eco-friendly source we are obligated to do so to ensure our survival. What is causing the polar caps to melt, the temperature to rise or lower, the sea levels to rise, etc. is really a moot point when you get down to it. The bottom line, we can't keep filling the air with smoke and chemicals and just expect it to magically disappear without any repercussions.
It doesn't just "magically" disappear. Chemicals, smoke, poisons toxins are all naturally broken down by the environment over time. The question is, how long are we willing to wait?
If you go and bury a plastic bottle in yoru back yard....EVENTUALLY it will degrade. With smoke, eventually the ash will settle out and decompose. Its natural.

I woudln't really worry about what China wants people. We owe them too much money for them to mess with us. Plus, if they wreck us...their economy goes down the tank.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

I love the police. I mean really. If you don't speed, and follow the law...You won't have any problems.
Are their Cops that are****? Yes...but you have those kinds of people in every job field. I've noticed that a lot of people talk bad about the police until they need them.
Cops, like Soldiers go through a lot of training and unfortunately, it only takes one bad apple to ruin batch. One bad cop, One bad soldier, those are the ones that wind up on TV. (Abu Graib anyone?) (Rodney King?)

Is a university degree still admirable?

A lot of people I know with Degrees have Bogus Degrees anyways. I've struggled through several years of Civil and Environmental Engineering. It's be an uphill battle and I had to dig my heels in deep to hold on. However, a lot of my classmates settle with stupid degrees.
~Business
~Education
~Art
~Early Childhood Education
I can go on and on and on. I know how hard I had to struggle to get mine, And I know how easy some of these degrees are to get.
I teach math and I see all the time how Universities lower the standards to let students pass. I think there are several reasons that University Grads have problems with jobs.
1. They have an easy to get degree (Business). Everyone knows that idiot in highschool that managed to get through college by following the easiest route possible.
2. They lack ambition and drive to get a better job.
Also, a lot of career paths don't need a degree anyways. For example, I know a family who does yard care. Both of these guys sons have a degree in agriculture. There are NO farms around here. And they have never even been to a farm. They cut grass for a living. Granted, they make AWESOME money doing it, but was it neccessary to spend 100K between the two of them?
On the same token, I have a CEE degree, but I joined the Military? I could have taken the easy degree to get my commission...But I didn't.
So...that was rant. But I think a Degree is a good thing. But a degree is JUST A PIECE OF PAPER. It isn't going to get you a job. You have to be the one to get out there and shake hands.

Never. Most of these people are homeless because of their own choices.
