Ontario Apartments Smoke Free !!!!!
Posted: 5/23/2007 3:23:08 AM
yes.

":they" can dictate where a person smokes in a public place.
and apartment shares the 'space" with the other apartments in the building.

i know.

i have quit and restarted smoking quite a few times. I smell smoke in the hallways and from my neighbours. All i have to do is open my kitchen cupboards! Now, being a non smoker is dependant on many things. but constantly smelling the stuff, even in my own apartment, that's a violation of MY privacy.

so, yes, i think they need to either take it to the balcony, or the building could create a public smoking area.
that's my two cents worth.

400 Pound 7 year old
Posted: 3/7/2007 6:50:40 PM
that's harmful, to say the least.

my son, has gained 7 cm and 7 kg in the last 18 months. we have worked with a paediatrician dietitian, as there is a tendency to be big in the family. he has "grown into his weight," but his still in the 90%.

its quite difficult, to be sure. but i would rather have a struggle of "no son, you can't have that extra serving of ham" than watch my son get bigger and bigger.

regardless, controlling a child's weight, especially in this day and age can be quite daunting.

A Remarkable Obituary
Posted: 3/7/2007 1:17:10 AM
i believe i have read this "obituary" before.

this grumbling always makes sense, to a few people, but it truly never did to me.

Mr "common sense" can't die. its an ideal that is in constant motion IMHO.

Legalize Pot???
Posted: 12/18/2005 7:27:54 PM
i smoke pot

i want it decriminalised then legalised.

sell it from the a pharmacy, a hospital or an addictions centre where the people buying are being educated at the same time. if not abstenence, then moderation. teach people the value of this

dont' sell it a LCBO stores.

price it so that its far FAR away from the price on the street.

make it such a pure grade that it doesn't even TOUCH the quality of the sh** on the street.

make it organic, and have places where people can smoke it legally.

just my thoughts....

geeeeeeeeeeezuz can you tell i have never really thought of this before?

Posted: 12/16/2005 10:43:36 PM
oooooooooooooooo SNAP

you are so right, there were!!! interesting strategy! two red ties!!

i love jack. he's my hero. i met him 15 years or so ago when he was doing volunteer work at the 519 in toronto. and yes, i remember the "you need to pay more rent" scandal. he was just dealing with what just about every politician has to deal with. the concept of entitlement. but he got over it.

and martin~i like his moxy. he says, all i want to do is govern. and that's what he has done.

were there other people at that debate?

ndp wins the debate ~ but he sounded like he was a commercial
Posted: 12/16/2005 10:06:58 PM
just watched the debate from vancouuver. i think over all jack won. he just kept getting cutoff.

harper was more relaxed than normal, but i still don't trust him

martin showed WHY we need to continue to have a socialist government in canada. i am not convinced we need them though

gilles did a good job of convincing himself that he had some good ideas.

what do you think?

ADHD children anyone?
Posted: 12/5/2005 6:15:14 PM
here are a few links to add food to thought

http://www.psycheducation.org/PCP/handouts/ADHD.htm

http://www.additudemag.com/medical.asp?DEPT_NO=506&SUB_NO=6

also i typed adhd versus bipolar into my search engine. got quite a few hits.

my son has severe adhd. he's a challenge. on two meds. and goes back and forth on his

mood. one day he is perfectly happy the next?aaaaaaaaaaa not so much!

he does not have bipolar. i do. also, adhd runs on both sides of the family.

how was the determination made? well, in my son's case, i showed the classic signs of adhd.

there was such a clear picture. this cant be said for every kid, however.

What Do Women Want.. Lover or Thugger???
Posted: 12/4/2005 10:52:16 PM
if the guy is a lover, he has to have some thugger in him.

if he is a thugger, there had better be some lover in him

if its a woman, she had better be a nice combination of both as well.

myself? i am a bit of both.

condoms...who put it on?

well, just for the people who would like another choice.

there is this AMAZING product!

its called the female condom. it goes inside the woman.

much more comfortable for both partners.

changing positions is effortless, as you don't have to worry about loss of sensation

depending on the city you live in, you can either get them free at any sexual health clinic.

certain drug stores (shoppers in canada) sell them as well. ok so they are $8 for 3. but trust

me they are SO worth it. especially if you are the "marathon" type.

let me know if you have tried this and if you liked the experience!

i know i have and when i get a male partner, its the only thing i will use.

First Nations/Native American folks say hello!
Posted: 12/4/2005 10:08:59 PM

1/64 th of me says hello to you.

The other 63/64 of me feels left out

well, thats kind of how i feel. while i know for an almost 100% fact that 6 generations of "white people" are in my family, i have always felt a strong, um, feeling i quess that part of me, somewhere was native.

i hope thats not lame, or offensive. and it would be cool to meet more people. all they would have to be is respectful.

thanks

Instant mother to a seven year old! Need advise!
Posted: 12/4/2005 9:01:44 PM
hey ~ here's my 10 cents worth

single parent to a differently abled 7 year old. three things have helped.

1) develop laryngitis when he's not doing as you say. stop talking! he may go on and on, but you still have the last word.

2) HARD? you are DANG straight its hard. get help from parenting groups in your area. you are net savy, find some parenting forums online.

3) relax. have some fun with it. maybe this little guy hasn't had a chance to play in a park, or get involved with hot wheels. ok he thinks he's too old for a hot wheel car? how about models? find something to do with him that allows a bond to be naturally strengthened, where you are learning from each other. it may be as simple as 30 mins each night. a model is just an idea. it could also be playing cards. going for a walk. i don't' know if you said you were working ft or not, but this 30 mins can make a real big difference in a kids life. you are as much saying, you are important, and i am taking you at face value. it has been my experience that this helps a lot of kids turn around challenging or negative behaviours.

ok so number 3 may sound hocky, but i know it works.

let us know how you are coming along ...

peace

The Gospel of Thomas...
Posted: 11/30/2005 6:33:24 AM
i have studied the gnostic texts, and not just the the gospel of thomas.

here is another link that speaks to this issue

http://www.gnosis.org/naghamm/nhl.html

i am particularly interested in the gospel of Philip. its a fascinating read, which asserts that jesus and Mary (the Magdalene) were married.

a quote from this book relates: "...the companion of the Savior is Mary Magdalene. But Christ loved her more than all the disciples, and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended... They said to him, "Why do you love her more than all of us? the Savior answered and said to them, "Why do I not love you as I love her?"19

Before any bible thumpers jump all over me, this is just an opinion, based upon a thesis, projected by an assertion. so, don't get your knickers in a knot over it, please. and don't slam me for having a different point of view than your own.

thanks!

i have enjoyed being a pagan for the last 12 years! it is my faith that carries me through each day.

i do have an altar, a parathon of gods and godesses, and a desire to work in harmony with mother earth.

what else is there to do?

ADHD and ADD the real thing or a cop out?
Posted: 11/29/2005 5:50:41 AM
my son was diagnosed at quite an early age, (4) as there was a family history that ran on both sides. he has been in "therapy" since he was 2. other complications have arisen in the last few years that have not helped his situation to any degree. Ritalin was the last resort. being a single parent and making all these decisions was a difficult one, as my brother, who also has ADHD was never put on Ritalin.

when i finally decided to give Ritalin a try, Justin's responce to the med was immediate! he stopped fussing, impulsive decreased, and his over all look to life became more positive. i have read in this thread that people are blaming the parents. that is simply not a statement of fact for all parents. he is also on a med called "risperdal" which helps with his mood swings. we are talking about a child who thinks nothing of running out into on coming traffic if he sees something in the middle of the road that he wants, or balances himself on the edge of subway platforms. oh yes you had better believe i am less than a second behind him, but he moves so very fast, i have to keep a constant eye on him. he can throw a table across a room if he is denied something that he wants. even on meds, i face these challenges. with the meds the do not happen as frequently as the once did. instead of it being a daily occurrence, it is perhaps once or twice every other month.

i work quite diligantly on ensuring MY son has the best possible treatment and care. he is in a school that specializes with kids with mental illness (ADHD is, look it up) on any given day, he is to receive the med at 4 hour intervals 3 times a day. on the weekend, i tend to not to give him his last dose. he has been managing fine. my goal is to let him take as little of any med as possible, thus giving him the chance to learn how to deal with his symptoms more independently.

realistically however, my son will always need something to balance his serotion/dopamine reactions. people with properly diagnosed ADHD have a "misfired" if you will, of these two brain chemicals. ritalin acts as a stimulant to help control these misfires. there are a wide variety of medicines on the market that help decrease the symptomology of the disorder, but not all take it away.

in response to people whose children are not responding favouritivly to a stimulant medication, such as concerta, ritialin or ritalin SR, you have many other options. yes diet certainly does play a key. yoga works quite well at helping the child find some inner peace.hit the chapters website. there are many yoga videos designed for children of all ages.PLUS a parent is instructed to follow along with the child.

that being said, the "he grew out of it" argument does not wash with me. you either have ADHD or you don't. mental illness may go into a type of "remission." you have it for the rest of your life. the child may not have had ADHD in the first place blame a lack of proper judgement of the professional involved or the individual . It is not uncommon for something to trigger the ADHD back into full symptomology. it can be as simple as a death of a close friend/family member, or a series of unfortunate events, all strung together within a short period of time.

well, this is a long post, but i hope i have given some readers a bit of information. having an ADHD child is not always easy. but it is rewarding. i see the improvements in my sons behaviour each day. and its not just the meds doing their job. he wants to be in more control of his life and the circumstances in which he finds himself.
