Inbox message help!
Posted:
5/20/2009 2:26:37 PM
I have the same issue with this, but I check my inbox everyday, so there shouldn't be any unread expired messages.
I tried clearing my cache and cookies, and even tried logging in with another web browser, yet I still get "1 New Message" at the top of the page. Probably just some weird bug.
EDIT: The notice disappeared after I deleted some old messages. Whee.

Hello, fellow Albertan!
Your profile description looks pretty well constructed. I could understand why you chose to put yourself in the "Friends" category in a site like this, though. Haha! :P
As

said, take a better photo of yourself - preferably with your eyes wide open. ;)

Perhaps you can put some details about your personality and what your goals and aspirations are? Less listing and more detailing!

How reliable is POF MY MATCHES page?
Posted:

I noticed that everyone in My Matches are either shorter than me or the same height as me. There is no way for me to change that, which I find really strange. o_O

Would appreciate some feedback on my profile

Seems good so far, but I would remove the cartoon pic - PoF doesn't like those.

Most men are too picky
Posted:

Most couples I know consist of a gorgeous woman and an average looking guy. Once in a while I will see an attractive man with an attractive woman but it's rare.
Damn, I need to move to BC. :P
In all seriousness, a lot of the people at this site are going to be choosy in terms of appearance, particularly the 18-30 demographic. That said, you should probably (read: DO IT) spice up your profile and actually add a photo if you want attention.

Internet dating: sucks for guys, good for women.
Posted:

I find it funny how many females here complain about how guys don't read their whole profile, as shown from the guys' messages.
Do you seriously expect guys to respond to
each and every interest
you list in your profile? I personally write at least one topic that's related to the recipient's interest, but I almost never get any replies back.
This kind of complaint is clearly an excuse. I'm not saying every guy writes good messages, but perhaps the overly picky females in this site should do some self-reflection? Even more interestingly, it's not just the attractive ladies who are picky.
Granted, I admit that dating sites has always been consisted of guys churning their brains out on trying to get at least one (good) response from girls. It's always have been this way, and I doubt it will change anytime soon.

Men don't like TALL women
Posted:

Funny... I had the conception that women prefer men taller than themselves in general. I believe it's another one of those "standards" set by mass media. Nonetheless, I really couldn't care less if my other half is taller than me. Compatibility is more important.

Profile reviews please

Your profile description is a little short - makes it difficult for someone to start a proper conversation topic.
- What are you looking for in a man?
- What kind of music are you into?
- What other interests and hobbies do you have?
As for photos, I would remove the last one, since it's so blurry and grainy. Make your headline a bit more interesting other than "helloooooo".

I should probably also ask how you start in your messages. There's a guide on messaging people in PoF for better results.

Simple: Your profile description is not detailed enough.
You should provide more information about yourself so that people can have something to talk about based on it. Split your information multiple short paragraphs with headings for readability:
1. Personality
2. Interests/Hobbies
3. What you're looking for (just saying "prince charming" is not enough)
4. Likes/Dislikes OR Unique quality about yourself
Other than that, your profile looks fine.

Thank you! I actually didn't ask for any tips beforehand - I simply followed the instructions in the profile edit page and suddenly thought about using headings. I've done some studying on readability in the past, so I thought I should put it to good use.

The not-so-guy things are listed under the Interests section, but I guess I should reiterate that in my description.

I just did a complete rewrite of my profile description, separating it into four, relatively bite-sized, chunks that should be easy to read. I think the pictures I have up are decent enough, but of course others may feel otherwise.
Constructive comments and criticisms are welcomed.
