ketosis-acidosis
Posted:

Before considering any new diets, talk to two or three doctors to get their opinions and do lots of personal research as it's your life and family.
from stumptuous.com dieting 101
Ketosis:
There are two kinds of ketosis: ketosis-lipolysis and ketosis-acidosis, and hand-wringing over ketogenic diets usually starts from confusing the two. When the body does not have any glucose available, as in a diet which eliminates carbohydrates, it manufactures another fuel from fat, and uses ketones as the fuel delivery system. To use the fat for fuel, the body breaks it down into glycerol and free fatty acids, which then break down into couplings of two-carbon compounds called ketone bodies. This is a perfectly normal state of affairs for the body. This is how it metabolizes fat. Lipolysis simply means fat burning. With sufficient intake of dietary protein, the body continues to be able to use glucose as fuel while optimally burning bodyfat.
However, in a fasting state, the body can enter ketosis-acidosis or ketoacidosis. Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a state of absolute or relative insulin deficiency, and in rare cases is fatal. Alcoholic ketoacidosis is along the same lines, but complicated by an episode of binge drinking (ethanol metabolism further reduces available glucose) combined with fasting. Non-diabetics who do not fast or regularly binge drink are not at risk.
Blood Type can also determine how well or what diet will work best for you. I'm type O blood type, so Low Carb diets are perfect for me. I lost 26 pounds in six weeks with no muscle loss (some water). After two years on an Atkins style diet (protein power diet sort of) my LDL/HDL ratio dropped by 40% and my triglycerides dropped by 50% with my blood pressure settling around 110 over 70.
Currently I eat lots of salad, vegetables and smaller quantities of fish, poultry and meat.

Now that black pvc kilt should be arriving in just about a week ...

why are men intimidated when a woman asks them out?
Posted:
11/25/2006 6:05:23 AM
The last time a woman approached me at the supermarket (she was working there) and said hello ... I looked behind me first ;-) and then after the initial shock wore off we talked a little.
When I am happy, have no worries, and am having fun in life is usually when I find it starting to happen and then it will be women I would never normally approach ....
Gotta spend a little more time in that happy zone ...
So was I intimidated, no ... surprised and happily taken off balance, yes ...

Drunk dialing that usually only happens to me after the roommate tells me he's swearing off alcohol again ;-)
I think I've only been guilty of it once

One of my ex's had a retroverted uterus (google for more info) ... it's tipped back instead of forward facing ... and it'd cause her pain periodically. I'd say just use your imagination and try other things.

Low self-esteem or trying to break up?
Posted:

It sounds like he wasn't hearing what you were saying and instead was hearing the criticisms of the past. Sometimes as we grow up our environment or our biochemistry can 'colour' the way we see and hear things. He expects criticism from those around him and hears it even when people are trying to encourage him. This is something he must 'sort out on his own' through good relationships over time until he starts to trust in what those (good people) around him are truly saying.
or maybe something like that ;-)
Bobby
ps -- this can take some time to sort through and he's got to be the one to want it and trust in it

Do You Men Read Our Whole Profiles? anewlife4me
Posted:

I'll order the halibut ... actually I've always prefered cod
Whenever I browse profiles I'll 'bookmark' the ones I find attractive depending on how much time I have.
Then at a later date, when I have the time I'll read the profiles and then in composing an email I'll carefully consider what questions I can ask and jokes or shared interests may be mentioned ... and then I'll wait for the 'read / deleted' ...

Why do all men prefer brunettes?
Posted:
6/20/2006 6:50:03 AM
I find redheads the sexiest but I date them the least often. I'm usually talking to and attracted to brunettes when I go out, but end up dating blondes the most.
Long hair used to drive me crazy until mine got down to my waist and started to find one of us with long hair was enough, so I started dating women with very short (almost shaved) hair.
Now that I've shaved it all off I think I might start dating women with longer hair again ;-)
Only one of us to get pinned down then

Posted:

You go go over to a woman's house for a date ... (after talking for a few days)
you have pizza and and a few laughs ...
some vodka and coca cola then watch a movie, a little friendly expression (PG) on the couch
and at the end of the movie start to realize realize the chatroom she has open on her computer has guys discussing what I'm wearing on my date with details about technique and style
(okay now, where's that freakin webcam)

First dates most embarrassing moments?
Posted:
6/4/2006 2:45:43 AM
There was a first meet / date where I arrived and realized we were on a tripple date ... The other two couples knew each other long term and she and I had two emails and a quick phone call to go off of. Part way through the date I recognized one of the women there was at a party where someone slipped some substances that I refused to go near into my drink.
Fun night, too much tequila, vodka and something I never did before slipped into my drink ...
I was told I was the life of the party

Match.com are irresponsible
Posted:

What I did with the dating sites that replaced my email was to use a secondary email in the message as they only replaced your registered email at that time.
As an example, if my registered email was bobby@hotmail.com, I would put my robert@yahoo.com address in any messages sent through that site.
