Tribute to pc Bill Barker
Posted: 11/23/2009 1:26:13 AM
I know this wont become a discussion thread, but I would like to pay my respects to PC Bill Barker who gave up his life to help the people of Workington who otherwise may have lost their own lives when the bridge collapsed.

I know we hear of bad cops, but this man;s family should be very proud of him.

RIP, PC Barker..

should he be jailed
Posted: 11/4/2009 12:55:41 PM
I watched on the news about a sheffield student who was caught urinating on a war memorial whilst he was drunk.

He was caught on CCTV soaking a wreath of poppies at the main war memorial in the city. Seems he downed a bottle of Whisky before going out on the town and said he has never been so drunk and is so sorry for what he did.

Now as much as I was enraged at what he did I know some folk get so drunk as not to know exactly what they are doing.

He could face prison for what he did. So do you think he should be jailed..
Or have you ever been so drunk that you didnt know what you were doing and think he should be delt with more leniently..

This way there should be easy planning for pet owners and alot of less traumatised animals!

Thats ok for domestic animals, not for farm animals though is it, unless you install an entertainement system in the barn to drown the noise out..

I hate being outside when the rockets are gong off coz you just dont know where their gonna land..

Have you ever been asked to guess someones age only to get it wayyyy wrong and said they looked older then they actually are..Why do some folk do this if they cant take it when you say they look older then thay actually are..

Although I have to say I have looked at some profiles on here and their either lying or had a bloody hard paper round..

I just told a fella he looked a lot older on his profile pic than it says he is on his profile , and he said I need my eyes testing..Why ask if you dont like the answer..

Although he is right, my eyes do need testing...

You say its only been going on a couple of weeks, so given time they may sort themselves out..All teenagers bicker, you should be in this house when my lads get going at each other and they aint teenagers.

If Kev's girl wants to go then let her go, if your girl feels so guilty about it then maybe she should walk away instead of bickering back..Takes to to have an argument..

If his girl has always lived there then maybe she feels a bit put out about your daughter now living there..

Gambling addiction
Posted: 10/1/2009 11:48:47 AM
I had a friend who was addicted to scratch cards, she spent hundreds of pounds every week on them, I visited her home once and her Kitchen floor and the bottom of her slippers was covered in tha Grey/Silver stuff you scratch off.

It was so bad she had to even buy a loaf of bread on her credit card, it eventually cost her her home and her marriage.Nuff said really.

Gambling addiction
Posted: 10/1/2009 10:35:22 AM
I know we have had threads about dating/marrying smokers, drinkers, drug users etc,but what about folk who gamble.

I dont mean the odd flutter on the horses, lottery, bingo etc, but folk who can spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds and even go in to debt to fund their habit.

The reason I have put up this thread is my Niece works in an amusement arcade/sunbed establishment and just called to say they have had a lady there all day and she has spend in the region of £3,000 on gambling machines today, seems she has over 30 missed calls on her mobile from her husband who has finally tracked her down and is now on his way there.

Seems she is a regular there and does spend quite a lot of money on these machines, so I expect he knows about her addiction, unless she hides it like some addicts can and do.

Do you think these places should stop folk playing the machines if and when the realise these people surely must be spending beyond their means (although I expect they would only find somewhere else to gamble ) or just let then be to loose everythng.

And could you date someone who had such an addiction,or do you know someone who has.

why do men go to prostitutes and women dont??
Posted: 9/30/2009 4:32:12 AM
Prostitutes..Women who have no strings attached sex with men and get paid for it.

Some of these women may be married or in relationships but like having sex with other men for whatever reason, they get the sex and the cash. Maybe thats why there are more female prostitutes than men prostitutes, its called initiative.

Did the Police fail to prevent abuse victim commiting suicide?
Posted: 9/29/2009 12:51:38 PM
I watched the news this evening where they interviewed the father of one of the lads who made this woman and her familys lives a nightgmare and how he now feels his family may the the targets of a hate campagne. Maybe even for a little while they may feel what this woman did when their son and his mates terrorised her.

Although I bet they get the Police protection and help she didnt.

Working mothers have unhealthiest children
Posted: 9/29/2009 12:37:04 PM
Maybe its because working mums just dont have as much time to prepere meals as much as stay at home mums do,at least if your home all day you can go out and buy fresh food, have more time to prepare things etc.Sometimes processed food is just quicker if not healthier.

Plus driving the kids to school may be faster if your having to go right to work after dropping them off, and working mums may have to do their housework after work and not have as much time to spend out with their kds after school unlike stay at home mums.Though I do know some mums who's kids watch a lot of tv after school and play on their computers rather than go out.

I watched something on the news last night about the town this lady and her daughter came from.

It showed kids some aged as young as 10 roaming the streets from midnight , some for several hours. Where the bloody hell are the parents of these kids, surley they know their kids are out and not in bed.

Seems the parents of some of the kids who terrorised this woman and her family we informed about what their kids were up to but seems they did bugger all, I hope they can rest easy in their beds a night knowing their kids played a part in the death of this woman and her daugher.

You could let him have the contact he wants now, but how would you feel if he severed all contact again once he is released.

Men searching for single mum's
Posted: 9/24/2009 11:29:19 AM
I personally dont have any problems with such a site as my sons are both grown men now. But if they were still small children I would be very wary that anyone who contacted me on such a site who didnt have children of their own may be the ones who were interested in my kids more then me.

And I think that would be in the minds of most mums if they were contacted by a man on such a site if he had no children of his own.

Men searching for single mum's

I know some men dont mind dating single mothers, but I just saw an advert for men searching for single mothers and it made me wonder why a man would be seaching for a woman who has children, ok maybe I am over cautious but these days you cant be to carefull when it comes to your kids, although maybe some of these men cant father children of their own.

So ladies, would you be happy to join a site that was for men searching for single mothers, and guys would you join a site that was for men searching for single mums.

Family holidays for 2010 where to go to?
Posted: 9/23/2009 1:49:18 PM
Take them toSalou in Spain, we are off there summer 2010. Its got a great theme park which is split in to 4 themes, Wild west, China etc. Took us 2 full days to cover it all when we first went.

Short train ride from Barcelona and Nou Camp, plus Barcelona Zoo.

Mostly families and couples go to Salou as is very family friendly.

2 obese children removed from their parents by social services
Posted: 9/22/2009 1:58:47 PM
These childen must be eating a hell of a lot of junk food to get to that weight and it reads as though the social services have tried to help this family before taking the action they felt they had to for the childrens sakes.

Maybe this will be the wake up call these parents need for the health of their children, I cant imagine the bullying/name calling these kids may be getting for being so overweight.

Should I pay this bill
Posted: 9/22/2009 5:05:01 AM
A few months ago I decided to change my Gas and Electricity supplier ( I have key/card prepayment meters ).

After a couple of months I decided to go back to my old suppler, and recently I got a letter for supplier B informing me I owed them £36.00 for Electricity.

The letter I received says that my meter was charging me for Electricity at a different rate( Suppler A's rate ) for my final bill.
This may have happened because there was a problem getting a message to my meter to change the rates.

I phoned them and said that I did everything that was asked of me when setting up this account, I ran my meter down and then inserted their key and then went and topped it up at my regular outlet and so I dont see why I shoud pay for something that was out of my control and as far as I am concerned was their fault.

Now thay have e mailed me back and said under these circumstances they will pay anything over £70.00 but he customer has to pay anything under £70.00.

I dont know if I should pay this or stick to my guns and refuse.

Has anyone had anything similar and should I just pay up or not.?

Is hospital right to ban Christian nurse from wearing cross at work?
Posted: 9/22/2009 4:44:07 AM
I dont see what her problem is if they are still allowing her to wear it but beneath her clothing. Or does she believe she has to have it on show so folk know she is a Christian whilst at work.
I am sure there are other Christians who work there who dont wear a cross at work to show what faith they are.

You say you were pleased when your daughter got her first choice of schools, so it was her decission to go there and not yours,so why are you beating yourself up saying you should have let her go to the same school as her friends, unless it was your choice and not hers.

I agree with Cleverkitten, she will soon make new friends if she makes the effort.

Pub ban's Mobile Phones
Posted: 9/1/2009 11:23:54 AM
I have just been watching the news and one item was about a pub in Newcastle that has banned the use of mobile phones.

I suppose banned is to stronger word, although they ask that you go outside to make or receive call so as the rest of the customers dont have to listen to your conversation especially when meals are being served.

I know some fellas may find this handy when the wife or girlfriend may be trying to contact them when they are out with the lad's, but would you take offence if you were asked to go outside to make or receive a mobile call.

Seems those that frequent this establishment dont seem to mind and along with the drink it is going down well.

Laptop problem
Posted: 8/21/2009 9:11:13 AM
Some months ago I took my partners laptop in to get a new keyboard fitted, since then we havent used it as we have been using my PC.

Last weekend we gave our computer desk away as we are going to buy a new one, so the PC was dismantled for the time being and I have been using his laptop, problem being that every time I try typing the letters U,I,O,J,K,L and M, I and getting numbers that are also on those keys and not the letters.

I am having to use my wireless keyboard off my pc.

Is this something wrong with the new keyboard installed, or is it something I need to press to remove these numbers and replace them with the letters.

Needless to say I havent used a laptop before and have always used a pc.
