Drink recipe help
Posted: 9/23/2007 9:47:37 AM
Does anyone know of any sites that has easy ways to memorize drink recipes and the recipes themselves listed? Things like: the Kamikaze. (one of my fav drinks) The kamikaze had a "Very Tragic Landing"..V-T-L..Vodka, Triple-sec and Lime..Im trying to work towards becoming a bartender and i cant afford the school right now..Basically, im trying to teach myself..Also, has anyone had any luck using flash cards to learn drink recipes? Any help/advice is welcome.

9/11 and how you experienced it ( personal stories)
Posted: 9/8/2007 9:02:45 PM
This will be a long one folks, so brace yourselves..There is ALOT i remember of that day..

My bro. showed up the night before (the 10th) to pick me up to go to his property. We were going there to get some stuff done so we could start building his house..But, when he showed, he was having alot of probs w/his back..so, we decided to go the next day..I had all my stuff packed in the middle of the room ready to go..He showed up and a little later decided he didnt wanna go that night..we hung out w/our mother..and a little later, I jumped on the ICQ and started talking to a friend of mine from aus. We talked till around 6 A.M. and i went to bed..Around 1 P.M., my bro came upstairs where i was sleeping and woke me up..I will NEVER forget this moment..He yelled out, "HEY, are ya ready to leave yet?..btw, our little terrorist friends have seriously damaged the pentagon and destroyed the world trade center"..i looked at my watch and came back with "I've been awake for around 5 seconds now..what are you talking about"? He went into a little more detail..I went downstairs to watch the news..I was horrified..I couldnt believe what i was seeing..I kept hearing that 50,000 ppl are in the WTC on a daily basis..I couldnt believe that something like this could happen..especially in the U.S...I went to the bathroom and lost it..I cried like a baby..I came out of the bathroom and went straight to the comp..Now, i had a incredible connection with the woman from aus. that i have been talking to..We had a way of being able to calm each other down..Even though we live in different countries..She didnt know what was going on and i told her to turn on her tv..But, i couldnt stay on the comp long in case if relatives wanted to get through..So, i ended our chat a few mins later..I layed on the stuff i had packed and watched the news..Now, fast forward a few hours (its now getting dark) we decided to go ahead and leave for the property..But, we wanted to get a radio to keep up on all this..We tried a few different places and finally ended up and this one store..As we were pulling in the drive to the store, i noticed through the windshield some planes..I said to my bro, "isnt the ENTIRE U.S. a no fly zone"? he said "yes it is"..He started looking at the planes..One big one surrounded by some little ones..As we got out of his truck, we were still watching those planes..he said, "you know what? ill bet that's Air Force One and her escorts"..We walked up the doors of the store and stopped to watch the planes some more..And literally mins later, we are surrounded by passers by wondering what we are looking at..Even a couple of the store employees came out to ask what we are looking it..One person asked my bro that and he said, "Air Force One and her escorts..

Now, thats most of what i remember of that day...there is still alot more, but this post is WAAAAY long enough..There is more..But, i will post that later...

sorry for the late post..this may have been answered..this is my answer to a ques..if im wrong in this, plz correct me..

anakin's anger comes from a combo. of events..having nightmares about losing his mother and then doing so..being elected to the jedi councel but not given the rank of master..and the biggest one, losing his wife..once again, he's having nightmares bout losing someone he loves..and in the case of his mother, it came true..so, he wants to grow more powerful so he can save padme..palpatine promises that he can teach anakin how to save ppl from death and thats what drives him over the edge..and thats when he falls..when master windu wants to kill palpaltine, anakin stops it (and kills windu in the process) so that palpatine can still be alive to teach him to keep ppl from dying..

Star Wars VS. Star Trek
Posted: 8/10/2007 9:41:45 PM
I come from a family that likes both..Im more Star Wars while my bro and one sis is more Star Trek..With me alot of it might be my bro. taking me to see EP4 when it first came out..I was 7. He was 13..And it was so cool when EP 3 came out. Cause here were the same 2 bros that went to see the first one (EP4. very confusing..lol) for the first time together and almost 20 yrs later, they are going to see the last one (EP3..more confusing..) for the first time together..only this time, we were joined by his 3 boys..(who were raised on both) I love the hole "multi-generational" thing..When it was over, we were all standing in the parking lot of the theater talking..I walked up to my bro. shook his hand and said, "well, bro. it was nice seeing yet another Star Wars movie with ya"..His responce was " yeah..it was..but, please..no more Star Wars movies"..lol..Then he and 2 of his boys turn around and made a Star Wars fan film..lol..

But it is also the whole lighsaber, force and space aged ninja thing too..The cool costumes..You cant get much better then the Vader and Fett costumes..At least as far as im concerned..

we cant forget the soundtrack...as far as im concerned, Star Wars rulz with the sountrack..im listining to the "Imperial March" (Darth Vaders theme from "Empire") as i write this..For me, the "Imperial March" is the best movie score ever..

its funny that the generations movie was mentioned..thats what got me to start this thread..i was watching that movie last night and it got me thinking..So, i decided to start this thread and see what comes of it..And i must say, the responces are very good..And some are deeper and more philosophical than i expected..Im impressed..But, while i love the trek movies, and some of the shows, im definitely Star Wars..

I can relate to the "heart wrenching moment".. I remember, while in the theater watching EP 3, the scene came on with Anakin entering the Jedi throne room with all the kids hiding..The one kid kid came out, said something and anakin ignited his lightsaber and that kid jumped..I actually said (out loud to my embarrassment IN THE THEATER ) "Oh man" cause i knew what was comming...

Which do you like and why?

Is it the special effects? or is it the characters?..the lovible Chewie or the ever evolving Data. The romance between Riker and Troy or Leia and Han? Lightsabers or Phasers? And lets not forget the musical score of both...

What are your thoughts?

hey everyone..well, its been sometime now since we lost mom and the house is rather lonley..its also so strange living here w/out her..we had this thing watching certain "judge" shows, that if something unusual or funny came on, we would go tell the other bout it just in case if the other missed it..well, a few days ago, something odd was in one of the shows and i found myself getting up off the couch to go in her room and see of she cought it..but, of course, she wasnt in there..i realized that as i stood up..and i just sat back down..i turned off the tv a min or so later and did stuff around the house..it was just as difficult tonight watching a certain "deal" game show..(i dont know if i can mention names of the shows).this was one show that we both loved watching and tonights was one of the best (and funniest) episodes i've seen..i missed her alot while watching that..but, its getting better little by little though..i called a couple of the utilities today to make some arrangements on getting the bills in my name and trying to get a payment schedule..cleaned out a couple of bookshelves to give books of hers i didnt want to other reletives..its getting better and easier..

thank you all for your kind words..its difficult for some ppl to understand, but, simply reading some kind words from total strangers actually can do alot of good..this thread and the ppl that have helped by sharing their experiances, advice, love and concern is good therapy..thank you..

Express: im sorry for what you are going through..i cant say i have alot of experiance with this..mom was diagnosed and then gone 9 days later..but, i can offer you someone to talk to..if you need to talk or just to ramble, drop me a line anytime..

brestman: keep up the fight with the breast cancer cause..if more ppl like you would take up these fights, there would be less ppl getting cancers..i truley believe that..

hey everyone..moms funeral was this past thurs. im still trying to get use to not having her around..no one to argue with..lol..we fought like cats and dogs most of the time, but at the end of the day, we were still best friends..and we both knew it..

i know she looks down on me..in fact, at the service, my bro made a little joke bout that.."great..i have my mother watching me all the time now"..lol..he ran the service (i was so proud of him..i've always known he would make a great pastor..) and with me being the baby, AND in charge of the house now, im sure im being watched extra close..i guess i need to start watching what i do..lol..atleast she doesnt have to deal with my stereo vibrating the house anymore..lol..its not weird to go out and talk to a loved one you lost..in fact, now thats its warming up, im gonna start doing the same thing..

my father also had probs with his prostate..but, cause of his age, there wasnt alot they could do..surgery would likely kill him..but, it was congestive heart failure he passed from..

consoling her wasnt an easy thing to do, i hated seeing her that way..but my father passed before i could get to the hospital and that has been one of my biggest regrets..i wasnt about to let that happen again..i know how ya feel bout not wanting to pick up your father, i was the same way with her..last few days of her life, she look so frail..that wasnt my mother..my mother was to strong and stuberon to die..my sister often said through the yrs that mom would outlive us all..and you did do the right thing calling 911..it just doesnt seem like it at the time..yeah..seeing the future would be a nice gift to have..i mean, she was diagnosed around the 8th or 9th and was given 3-6 months..maybe 9 with the treatment..she was gone on the 18th..9 days later..i lost a bro as well..but i was only 7 and i dont remember alot bout him..i really only have a handfull of memories..i dont know if i blocked them out or what..i should be able to remember alot at the age of 7..i agree bout the not leaving things left unsaid..i get the feeling that my sister and i are gonna be alot closer..we are the ones that always did the shopping for mom and dad..took them to the hospital when the squad wasnt neccarry..when mom died, she kept saying what we are gonna do w/out her.right before i left her home that night to come back here, i hugged her and said we will be fine..anyway, this is getting to be a rather long post so im gonna end it here..thank you for the encouraging words..i have gained alot of strangth from this thread and everyone who posted..there truely is some very good ppl on POF..reno6k..

more darwin
Posted: 11/21/2006 8:20:33 PM
It's that time again... The Darwin Awards are finally out, the annual honor given to the persons who did the gene pool the biggest service by killing themselves in the most extraordinarily stupid way. Last year's winner was the fellow who was killed by a Coke machine which toppled over on top of him as he was attempting to tip a free soda out. This
year's winner was a real rocket scientist... really!

And the nominees were:

Semifinalist #1

A young Canadian man, searching for a way of getting drunk cheaply, because he had no money with which to buy alcohol, mixed gasoline with milk. Not surprisingly, this concoction made him ill, and he vomited into the fireplace in his house. This resulting explosion and fire burned his house down, killing both him and his sister.

Semifinalist #2

Three Brazilian men were flying in a light aircraft at low altitude when another plane approached. It appears that they decided to moon the occupants of the other plane, but lost control of their own aircraft and crashed. They were all found dead in the wreckage with their pants around their ankles.

Semifinalist #3

A 22-year-old Reston, VA, man was found dead after he tried to use octopus straps to bungee jump off a 70-foot rail road trestle. Fairfax County police said Eric Barcia, a fast food worker, taped a bunch of these straps together, wrapped an end around one foot, anchored the other end to the trestle at Lake Accotink Park, jumped and hit the pavement. Warren Carmichael, a police spokesman, said investigators think Barcia was alone because his car was found nearby. "The length of the cord that he had assembled was greater than the distance between the
trestle and the ground," Carmichael said. Police say the apparent cause of death was "Major trauma."

Semifinalist #4

A man in Alabama died from rattlesnake bites. It seems that he and a friend were playing a game of catch, using the rattlesnake as a ball. The friend - no doubt a future Darwin Awards candidate - was hospitalized.

Semifinalist #5

Employees in a medium-sized warehouse in west Texas noticed the smell of a gas leak. Sensibly, management evacuated the building extinguishing all potential sources of ignition; lights, power, etc. After the building had been evacuated, two technicians from the gas company were
dispatched. Upon entering the building, they found they had difficulty navigating in the dark. To their frustration, none of the lights worked. Witnesses later described the sight of one of the technicians reaching into his pocket and retrieving an object that resembled a cigarette lighter. Upon operation of the lighter-like object, the gas in the warehouse exploded, sending pieces of it up to three miles away.

Nothing was found of the technicians, but the lighter was virtually untouched by the explosion. The technician suspected of causing the blast had never been thought of as ''bright'' by his peers.

Now ladies and gentleman, the winner of this year's Darwin Award:

The Arizona Highway Patrol came upon a pile of smoldering metal embedded in the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve.

The wreckage resembled the site of an airplane crash, but it was a car.

The type of car was unidentifiable at the scene.

Police investigators finally pieced together the mystery. An amateur rocket scientist... had somehow gotten hold of a JATO unit (Jet Assisted Take Off, actually a solid fuel rocket) that is used to give heavy military transport planes an extra "push" for taking off from short airfields. He had driven his Chevy Impala out into the desert and found
a long, straight stretch of road. He attached the JATO unit to the car, jumped in, got up some speed and fired off the JATO!

The facts as best as could be determined are that the operator of the 1967 Impala hit the JATO ignition at a distance of approximately 3.0 miles from the crash site. This was established by the scorched and melted asphalt at that location.

The JATO, if operating properly, would have reached maximum thrust within 5 seconds, causing the Chevy to reach speeds well in excess of 350 mph and continuing at full power for an additional 20-25 seconds.

The driver, and soon to be pilot, would have experienced G-forces usually reserved for dog fighting F-14 jocks under full afterburners, causing him to become irrelevant for the remainder of the event.

However, the automobile remained on the straight highway for about 2.5 miles (15-20 seconds) before the driver applied and completely melted the brakes, blowing the tires and leaving thick rubber marks on the road surface, then becoming airborne for an additional 1.4 miles and impacting the cliff face at a height of 125 feet leaving a blackened crater 3 feet deep in the rock.

Most of the driver's remains were not recoverable. However, small fragments of bone, teeth and hair were extracted from the crater, and fingernail and bone shards were removed from a piece of debris believed to be a portion of the steering wheel.

Epilogue: It has been calculated that this moron attained a ground speed of approximately 420-mph, though much of his voyage was not on the ground.

How kids help us lose our minds
Posted: 11/18/2006 1:38:07 PM
A boss wondered why one of his most valued employees had not phoned
in sick one day. Having an urgent problem with one of the main computers, he dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper. "Hello." "Is your daddy home?" he asked. "Yes," whispered the small voice. "May I talk with him?" The child whispered, "No." Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?" "Yes." "May I talk with her?" Again the small voice whispered, "No." Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, "Is anybody else there?" "Yes," whispered the child, "a policeman". Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?" "No, he's busy", whispered the child. "Busy doing what?" "Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman," came the whispered answer. Growing more worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, "What is that noise?"
"A helicopter" answered the whispering voice. "What is going on there?" demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive. Again, whispering, the child answered, "The search team just landed the helicopter." Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, "What are they searching for?" Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle:

"ME."

1. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if
anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that
they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have
the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and
you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your

11. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

12. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this

13. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

i dont use alot of MSG when cooking. just a dash or two. not much at all. but, it does raise a ques. i've never understood what is wrong with using it. are there health factors involved? i've never done a search for this. never really concidered it unhealthy.

so, we could be eating shark? i wonder how often that happens. that sux, i love sharks. they are so cool.

the sauage thing was kinda last min. i was looking in the fridge for something "meaty" to add to it since i didnt have any bacon. saw the sauage and thought, "hhmm...that should be interesting"..and it was..i loved it. turned out better than i thought it would.

The way i ended up making them was frying them in a skillet w/ diced smoked sausage, (didnt have any bacon. it was a good sub though) butter, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped oinion's, parsley and some MSG. last few mins, i put in some soy sauce and hoisin. Thank you. That sounds really good. I guess i should have mentioned though (woops) that they are the little bitty ones. Little bit bigger then the small marshmellows. Maybe instead of the bacon, i could use bacon grease. Or cut up bacon and toss it in with it. garlic/parsely/butter i will try. Dont have any olive oil. hhmm...I do like the idea of lemon juice. I dont like it much on fish, but it might be different on scallops..Never thought of passion fruit on seafood. Thats an interesting idea. Thank you. You've given my some stuff to think bout. How 'bout i cook it up, flash freeze it and ship it over to ya?

Zen and the art of pizza baking
Posted: 10/4/2006 11:22:45 AM
Alot of times i get the "kits" With the "just add water" kind of dough. Instead of using just plain water, i'll use the water from the cans of mushrooms (one of my most fav toppings ) and the water from the jars of jalapeno peppers. Give's the dough a "mushroomie" taste and a jalapeno kick. Gotta becareful with the pepper water though. I learned that the hard way..lol.. Another "trick" of mine is i'll put herbs (usualy parsley) right into the dough before i mix it all up.

I posted those exact same things (well, almost. Mine was 8) not long after i posted this. But, it got the 7 out-a 10 vote so it vanished. But, i loved those. I was rolling the whole time i was reading them. I dont have any kids, but, i grew up with one of my neices (yes. i know. I come from a large family. i became a uncle for the 1st at about yr and a half old. I guess mom and dad didnt know when to stop..hehe) and i was very protective of her. At one point, we even went to the same school. Not many guys messed with her.
They knew they would have to deal with me if they hurt her.

Your lightsaber is your only means of heating water.( tea, bath etc..)
You use your lightsaber to light your smokes

It look's good. I like it. It reminds me of 3 of my nephews. They are making Star Wars fan films. The first one was about two of them having a lightsaber fight.

*You have a cousin who bears a strong resemblance to Chewbacca.
*You have a confederate flag painted on the hood of your landspeeder
*You ever heard the phrase, "May the force be with y'all

I'm a big Star Wars fan. Here's a list i found. Everyone is welcome to contribute. Let's get creative.

* Your Jedi robe is a Camouflage color.
* You have ever used your Light Saber to open a bottle of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.
* You think the best use of your light saber is picking your teeth.
* At least one wing of your X-Wing is primer colored.
* There is a blaster rack in the back of your landspeeder.
* You have bantha horns on the front of your landspeeder.
* You can easily describe the taste of an Ewok.
* You can find no grammatical errors in the way Yoda talks.
* You think that Stormtroopers are just KKK members with really good sheets.
* You have ever had an X-wing up on blocks in your yard.
* You ever lost a hand during a light-saber fight because you had to spit.
* The worst part of spending time on Dagoba is the dadgum skeeters.
* Wookies are offended by your B.O.
* You have ever used the force to get yourself another beer so you didn't have to wait for a commercial.
* You have ever used the force in conjunction with fishing/bowling.
* You have ever used a light-saber to clean fish or open a non-twist-off bottle of beer.
* Your father has ever said to you, "Shoot, son come on over t' the dark side... it'll be a hoot."
* You have ever had your R-2 unit use its self-defense electro-shock thingy to get the bar-b-q grill to light.

two guys in a bar
Posted: 9/25/2006 8:27:03 PM
There were these two guys in a bar, which was on the 20th floor of a building. The first man said " I bet you $100 I can jump out that window and come straight back in!" The second man says "Ok, sure." and the barman holds the bet. The first man jumps out the window and disappears for a second before jumping straight back in. Disappointed about losing the $100, the second man says: " I'll bet you another $100 you can't do it again." So the barman holds the bet. Sure enough, the first man jumps out the window, disappears for a second, then jumps straight back in. Thinking he must have caught a freak gust of wind, the second man says "Ok, I bet you $300 I can jump out the window and come straight back in." The first man says" Ok, sure." The second man jumps out the window and falls to the footpath below. He is dead. Back up in the bar, the barman says to the first man " Gee, you can be a **stard when you're pissed, Superman."

Things I've learned while I was drunk....

"peeing" on the electric cable (you could'nt see at 3 A.M.) with exposed wires on the groundside of a building is a BIIIIIG NO-NO....Be mindfull of your surroundings when peeing in the dark...

You tend to make your friends rather angry when you hurl all over their bathroom and your too drunk to clean it up.

Crocodile Hunter gets killed
Posted: 9/17/2006 9:31:11 PM
Shows like Steve's taught me alot about the animal kingdom. I have great interest in how animals interact with each other. And with humans. The biggest one of of all (atleast with me) is what reactions WE can expect. I.E. the hungry croc ( that we cant see) is lying in wait just below the waters surface, ready to strike. Now, I have plans to visit the many places that crocs/gators thrive. Without the shows, I would never know that they are there. I would'nt have a clue. I could go into the water to wash up, wash the dish's, and god know's what else only to have a croc/gator lunge at me thinking i'm dinner. They are lightning fast. And I can honestly sit here and swear that i never knew these things till i started watching Steve's shows. Now, i know better. If im in florida or any other places that crocs/gators thrive, i now know to be careful of the waters edge. Thanx to Steve Irwin. To me, they were always way out in the water looking for dinner. Not waiting at the edge where they could easily strike.. It is ppl like Steve that shows us what we can expect. Think of it this way. If there were no Steve Irwins in the world, If no one actually "played" with these animals, how would we know what they are capable of? What they could do. Just something to think about......

I just now heard on the news that 10 stingrays have been killed since the death of Steve Irwin. The news said it was out of fear for what the ray can do or retaliation for Steve. I think this is just sick and sad. Why do ppl do these things. I knew this was comming. It's not like the sting ray thought to itself "Theres Steve Irwin, world-renowned conservationist. I think i'll kill him".IMO, the camera-man was in front of the ray and steve was over it. It felt trapped, so it defended itself in the only way that it knows. It has instincts and the ray used them.

Crocodile Hunter gets killed

I have some things to say. Please bare with me. This is a long one.

First and formost, i give my condolences to the Irwin family. Steve was an inspiration. To me and so many others.

Several yrs ago, i wanted to get into zoology. .Get a degree and work with the "Big Cats". (I'm a cat person) But, i was getting older and saw no way of that happining, needing a degree and all. ( plus, i really didnt wanna go back to school. especially at my age ) so, i let that "dream" go..But, since we lost Steve, that dream of mine has been awakened in the form of Marine Biology.. I realized the love i have for the ocean and it's wildlife. I'm sad to say, it was thru his death that i have decided to go back to school ( in due time, when i can afford it ) Study marine biology and dedicate my life to the study and preservation of marine life. I love the water. I am perfectly at home in the water. That is one reason that i have always wanted to be a Navy SEAL. But, i also love the animals that live in the water. I have always found whales, sharks, eels, and so much other marine life very facinating. I love the idea of swimming with the sharks. With the whales. and all the little "fishees" in between. and yes, even the stingrays. So, i wanna say thank you to Steve and his family for "awaking" this "passion" of mine. Although, i do regret that it took his death to do so.

Also, i really wish everyone would stop focusing on "negative" things like when he took baby bobby in the "croc pin " and start focusing on the positive things that he has done for wildlife preservation. The awareness he has raised. Introducing wildlife to the young and old. ( i have nephews and even great nephews that loved his shows and so did my father who passed at the age of 80 almost 2 yrs ago) besides, He has has been around these animals most of his life. He knew what to look for. I truley believe he was in total control the whole time and baby bobby was in no danger what so ever. If you look at the footage, as steve is "walking" bobby across the grass, he is constantly looking over his shoulder. He knew what he was doing.

Steve, i thank you for everything you have taught me through your shows. And for your inspiration. I will never forget you.

Terri, Bindi and bobby, i am sorry for your loss. Steve will be missed the world over. By me and millions of others..
