Extreme Sports. My view on this subject

Find something you like, and dont give a crap what other people say!

Went on holiday to the US in 2005, and was visiting a college football program. Was trying to figure out what else I could do when over there and thought Id have a go at rodeo as Id seen it live a few years previous.

After some research I picked on going to a rodeo school and do bull riding from Fri-Sun. Wow what a shit scarey thing that is the first few times you get on the bull, especially the brahmas. Got on 8 bulls over the weekend, but boy what a buzz.

4 Months later I wanted to do it again and Ive spent the last 2 years travelling from UK to Germany to take part in rodeo events from bull riding, bronc riding to wild horse race(team event). Ive had a heck off a time, got beat up and bruised and made some real good friends.

Just trying to figure out what my next sport will be, and whether to have a go at tie down or steer wrestling school

Ive had my goatee for a couple of years now, and wouldnt ever dream off shaving it off just cause people say they dont like it!

If I got in a relationship with someone that was going somewhere and they asked then I would seriously consider losing it, as there should always be some give and take! My last GF did get irritated by it but never asked for the removal.

So basically if you can see past that to someone then fine, and if you just dismiss somneone due to facial hair then thats your perogative also and fine

May we all find who we are looking for facial hair or not!

Anyone else on adkins diet?
Posted: 1/11/2008 3:18:43 PM
dont do the Atkins diet, it has been proven that it does not work long term and the results are not really that beneficial!

Your best bet is to really go for portion control, low fat and eat the right foods for going down the gym also.

I dont like publicising stuff normally but look for a book called "The Abs Diet" wont necessarily give you a six pack but does help with a change in eating habits linked with exercise. when I was on it I lost about 4% body fat over 2 months and gained muscle weight

I personally think its a lot beter and healthier for you. Another option which is similar stuff Im told is "Body for Life"

The only way I incorporated the Atkins style in my regime was cut down the amount of bread I ate. As Atkins does not give you any carbs at all which isnt good while exercising

Oven roasted onions
Posted: 12/5/2007 4:04:56 AM
OK its a little long but here it is

Balsamic-baked onions and potatoes with roast pork

Serves 6

This dish has attitude - it uses a lot of balsamic vinegar but, trust me, it works really well. The onions and potatoes are baked in the vinegar, making them crispy, dark, sticky and sweet. I've chosen to serve them with roast pork, but beef or lamb works just as well. I prefer red onions for their colour and sweetness.

1.5kg medium-size waxy potatoes (such as Charlotte), peeled and quartered lengthways
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
olive oil
200g butter, cubed
a bunch of fresh rosemary, leaves picked and chopped
1 whole bulb of garlic, quartered or smashed
5 medium red onions, peeled and quartered
350ml cheap balsamic vinegar
for the pork a small bunch of fresh rosemary, leaves picked and finely chopped
2 tbsp freshly ground fennel seeds
1.5kg boneless rolled pork loin, preferably free-range or organic, skin off, fat scored in a criss-cross pattern
olive oil
6 cloves of garlic, crushed1 medium red onion, peeled and quartered
2 sticks of celery, trimmed and chopped
4 bay leaves
2 wineglasses of white wine
extra-virgin olive oil
Preheat the oven to 200C/gas mark 6. Put the potatoes into a pan of boiling, salted water and cook for about eight minutes, then drain and return to the pan. Chuff them up a bit by shaking the pan.

To prepare the meat, scatter a handful of finely chopped rosemary leaves over a large chopping board. Sprinkle over some salt and pepper and the ground fennel seeds. Roll the pork across the board, pressing down hard so all the flavourings stick to it.

Get a large roasting tray into which your pork will fit snugly, and place it on a hob over a medium-high heat. Pour in a little olive oil and place the pork in, fat side down, sprinkled with any flavourings remaining on the board. After a few minutes, when the pork fat is lightly golden, turn it over and add the garlic cloves, onion, celery and bay leaves to the tray. Place on the bottom shelf of your preheated oven for an hour, basting it halfway through. (For the last 20 minutes of cooking, you might need to cover the pork with a bit of damp greaseproof paper to stop it colouring too much.)

Get another roasting tray, into which you can fit the potatoes in one layer, and heat it on the hob. When hot, pour a glug of olive oil into it and add the butter, rosemary and garlic. Add the potatoes and toss them in all the flavours. Add the onions and all the balsamic vinegar and season with salt and pepper. Cook for five minutes on the hob to reduce the balsamic vinegar a little. Place the tray on the top shelf and cook for about 50 minutes, until the potatoes and onions are dark, sticky and crispy - removing the tray to toss the onions and potatoes halfway through. After an hour, the meat should be cooked. Prick it with a sharp knife - if the juices run clear, it's done; if not, pop it back in the oven for another 10-15 minutes, keeping the potatoes warm.

Remove it from the oven and let it rest on a plate for 10 minutes. Pour away most of the fat from the tray and mash up the garlic and onion. Place the tray over the hob and add the wine. Simmer until the liquid has reduced by half, scraping all the meaty, marmitey goodness off the bottom to make a tasty sauce, and season if necessary. Pass through a sieve into a serving jug. Then slice the pork and serve it with your incredible baked onions and potatoes, drizzled with the pan juices. Great with some nice greens or a rocket salad.

Meeting after talking for ages.
Posted: 12/5/2007 3:56:31 AM
Definately as has been said above, never meet anyone you dont know in their own home!!!!

Yes youve been chatting online, but you dont know them more than what they want you to know on screen. If you want to meet in a public place preferably during the day time

However, I would like think that you know the answer already yourself. if you were happy to meet then you would not have posted your concerns on here for loads of people to see. This should tell you that you dont feel safe with the idea, and possibly him anymore

whatever you decide, keep yourself safe first

May seem like a stupid question, but have you tried clicking on the speaker icon in the bottom right corner. I have known computers switch the audio off here as a default!

Otherwise you might want to try installing the driver again yourself rather than letting windows do what it thinks is the closest one:

Might be possible, however I think you might have conflictions with the motherboard and not having its driver on that HD. Also the MB would have to be capable of reading at the HD's speed

Just dont have the vista HD connected at the same time

my pasta always clumps!!!
Posted: 9/11/2007 3:23:52 PM
As Frank said above, dont use oil, you might as well throw it done the drain

salt in the water, and if you are cooking spaghetti grab hold of the amount of dry pasta one hand above the other.

when you place it in the center of the pan, just give both hands a gentle twist in opposite directions and let go, the spaghetti should fall all round the rim of the saucepan. as it starts too cook it will fall down into the pan itself, and should not stick as long as not over cooked

yeah but as we always say at work, you get loads of looks, smiles etc when driving round in the fire engine.

But as soon as you get rid of the uniforms no-one pays a bit of attention, so its got to be the uniform and the big boys toys rather than the hero stuff

Calling all adventure junkies....
Posted: 9/2/2007 3:53:06 PM
I like to do rodeo when I can get over to Germany at the weekends.

Met a guy in Carolina the other year at a bull riding school and he had terminal cancer, and riding a bull was last on his list.

He had gone down the Cresta run in a bobsliegh which would be cool, and he had done a 3 week outdoor survival course, then dissapeared into the Alaskan wilderness for a month to do his own thing. Now that would be cool

Want to do a proper cattle drive, not one of these based at a ranch with jacuzzi, hottubs and comfortable bed places that people like to use and say they did a cattle drive. Im talking proper 2 week trek of 14hours in the saddle, no electricity and solar heated shower packs if your lucky

HOT pepper lovers!!!
Posted: 7/20/2007 2:51:27 PM
I do like chillis, though its a huge change from when I was a kid.

Grew up eating curries with about 1/2tsp of curry powder in and they were too hot for me then.

changed a little bit since then, growing myself some tabasco, prarie fire and habanero peppers this summer, looks like a good harvest.

i was on holiday in cuba in 2000 and went on a day out. They took us to a local homestead and the farmer took us round his land handing out fresh plantains, mangos, papayas. Then we came across these wild chilli plants much like finger chillis. well I was the only one in the group who would try one, 5 secs of chewing no reaction at the 6th sec thaht started to burn. So much that I was crying invoulanterilly and it took around 40mins to get feeling back in my tongue

watched a show last month all about chillis and it said there that people dont get used to the heat, the capsasin in the chillis kill off the receptors/tastebuds in your tongue.

personally I gave up on using azureus and any torrent sharing devices 6 months ago.

The far easier way and far quicker is to find some decent file sharing sites where people post links to albums, movies ebooks etc.

send me a mail here as to what you are looking and i will see if I can find it on one of the sites I use. Then if you are happy with the quality I can forward you further details

Hi Brandi,

before you even consider going to a clean install, try a program called Hijack this. You need to download the latest copy from this page

http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=sp#det

when you have downloaded and installed run the program without any other things running than your normal windows. At the end save the log file somewhere you can retrieve later.

look up the following page and register as a user, after which you want to post a new thread in the "Malware Removal" section. When you post a new thread explain what is happening and then copy and paste your Hijack This log file into the post.

hopefully within a day or two someone will go through your log file and help you sort out your computer.

These folks are good, and do help out, they may also refer you to a few other programs that you could use

There is more mistreatment in the way that people get the meat put on the shelves in supermarkets than at all rodeos combined, yet I never hear people complaining so much about this.

couldnt be bothered reading through all the other pages, but a good program if your PC is still running slow, homepage changes etc after using S&D, Adaware etc is HijackThis

run the program without any other windows running, save the log file and you can post it on their forums for someone to check out

Rodeo stock treatment, is it cruelty to animals
Posted: 2/9/2007 3:06:20 PM
On the most part and Im talking 95%+ of rodeos treat the animals with respect and well. The worst Ive seen in the US at practice pens / schools is shock sticks and pins.

If its properly run and funded like PRCA and PBR stuff then the animals will always get the best treatment and food and everything.

Just look at the bull Kid Rock while he was still alive. The stock contractors son brought his latest girlfriend to a PBR event and asked her if she wanted to go behind the chutes and meet his brother. what a surprise she got when he walked her up to the bullpen and introduced her to Kid Rock.

The biggest misconception that people here have and I always have people say "my friend say it and told me!" is the old flank rope / strap placement. They wont even believe me when I tell them I dont just see it I ride these animals (OK fall off more)

Just thought Id drop a little not in here, and I know rodeo doesnt count

But for those that might be interested, there is a British Rodeo Cowboy Association that does cattle penning etc with western trained horses.

Also a QH association and various local groups in the UK

I know a couple of people in the BRCA, but I travel to germany to the European Rodeo as they have broncs and bulls. Stupid laws in the UK dont allow this

Anyone want any info drop me a msg

I would like to know pretty early on myself. whether you said that you were blind, visually impared or any other words you choose, it wouldnt matter to me as the attraction is more than to do with eyesight.

when you say it drove some people away, then you're probably better off without these people, as later down the line you probably couldnt depend on them

Hope you get all the friends you're after and also that one special person besides yourself

^^ same boat lucky to avoid it then. Best bit was watching some of those daytime shows where people who have problems with their relationships have kids and she said it was wrong. Whats the first thing she suggested when I found she'd being cheatin?

personally speaking now I would be ready to have kids if I met the right person. I dont mind if they have some already but would have to think about it if they said no more.

The main thing being that you feel right with what is going on, at the time and make your decisions together. But I would pretty much rule out anyone that said they didnt want any at all

only in america
Posted: 1/29/2007 4:08:50 PM
I really do love this country, but...

1. Only in America... can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.
Funnily enough it can be exactly the same in the UK

2. Only in America... are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.
In the whole of the EU you require handicapped access to all public buidlings

3. Only in America... do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
Most drugstores are pretty much the same as Tesco Extras here

4. Only in America... do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
So what about the quadruple Whopper meal that BK did last year in England?

5. Only in America... do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.
Happens in HSBC

6. Only in America... do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
Same in near every country

10. Only in America... do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille.

Ever checked out a cash machine here? nearly all have braile now

good quality slightly salty back bacon (Canadian bacon for those in the US, hate that streaky stuff)
good quality orange marmalade (not the cheap real sugary stuff)

Backpacking in Britain
Posted: 1/15/2007 4:13:15 PM
you've got a few ways of getting around after the obvious cheapest way (hitching lifts)

You can use the rail system, depending on where you are going to then some routes can be a little unpredictable. Also most rail companies have just put their prices up so make sure you dont travel during peak times. If you can travel outside these and book in advance (dependant on if you want to preplan where you go) you can still get some good deals

check out http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

another option which is pretty cheap for going between the major cities is by coach. Check out http://www.nationalexpress.com/home/hp.cfm

Accomodation, you want to check out the Yout Hostel Association, 200+ locations across the UK http://www.yha.org.uk/

If you have an idea of what stuff you fancy doing or type of things you like to see / visit drop me a msg and Ill give you a few ideas

Do We Play To Much Sport In The Uk?...
Posted: 12/28/2006 4:31:51 PM
would have to agree that national across GB we do not play enough.

sports fields are sold off, and there is next to no government funding to improve our sports stars to an international level that other countries can do.

We have too many people across the 4 nations that are closed off to their own sports and try to belittle people who show interest in sports from other countries which could produce bigger stars

Going on from this administrators for various leisure facilities are reluctant to allow these non mainstream sports to be played on their fields

Then again for those already there, seem at present to not be too bothered about results but are happy to take the cash.

Im biased for my own activities, but all round I think that we would have better international and even national results if sports personalities where paid like the riders in the PBR (professional bull riders). You dont make the grade on the night / day you dont get paid simple as that, dont even get appearance money if you are the defending world champion just treated like the rest.

Joker
1 shot vodka
1 shot bacardi
1 bottle snowball (per-mixed advocate, lemonade, lime) roughly 200ml bottle
1 bottle orange juice (100ml)
1 bottle lemonade (100ml)

Taste like a carribean fruit drink we get here called Lilt, but cause it goes down so easy you get wasted on them if you aint careful

Has anyone traveled to Scotland/England/Ireland?
Posted: 12/23/2006 9:29:20 AM
Oh I just got to love some of the points up on here, especially "how expensive it is over here!"

Yes its expensive if you are coming from the US for a trip as the $ to £ exchange rate is pretty crapy for you guys. But if you are going to work over here most jobs will pay a decent enough wage. Hey even shelf stackers in the supermarkets for night shifts make equal what others term as a good job

London is expensive, and personally i think its over-rated but never been one for city life if I can avoid it

dont forget about Wales, I went to uni in Cardiff and its more of a town feel than city there, people are real friendly there.

Lived and worked in England for 9yrs now, and would say that generally out of all the most unfriendly of the lot for walking down the street against. Even if you say morning feel priviledged if you get more than a grunt. Forgetting that there are loads of places to visit.

If you are talking of Ireland, Dublin is OK for a visit, but dont think about it for too long as its more expensive than New York. along with this hotels and B&B's etc in the Republic are very expensive at the minute.

Then my home, Norn Iron (speak for Northern Ireland people) would have to say probably the friendliest of the lot next to scottish.. Plenty of places to see here especially up round the Causeway Coast, with the Giant's Causeway, Carrickarede rope bridge, and the Bushmills Whiskey Distillery (oldest in the world) still producing

Best I would have to say Delta going from Heathrow to Atlanta

As for worst that definately has to have been coming back from Hong Kong overnight flight and it was completely full, very cramped and all you could hear were people hacking up flem into the back of their throat (normal occurance on the streets of HK)

The day after we got home and had a rest our legs were itching, turns out that either fleas/bugs from the plane or the other passengers had decided to feast on our lower legs. Couldnt get past the knee due to our trousers

You could do an early start, out at a ranch in Red rock Canyon 7am, go out on a 4-5hr horse trek looking for mustangs, when coming back later on here the rattlers warming up (maybe see some)

Does anyone know how to cook Squid???
Posted: 12/4/2006 5:05:55 AM
there is a thin membrane on the outside of squid which can be removed. Doing this reduces the rubbery effect

But as has been said before cook quickly and not for long.

Lightly score with criss cross pattern as this will also prevent it from curling up when cooking as much

Try some seasoned chilli olive oil and freshly cracked pepper, freshly chopped chilli, to marinate for a few minutes. Then cook on a high heat on a griddle pan

Best Brownies Ever!
Posted: 12/4/2006 4:59:20 AM
I tried these last week, and they are amazing. If the thought of all 60% cocoa chocoltae is to strong, substitute half for milk chocolate

Servings: 12-16
Level of difficulty: Easy
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients
oil, for greasing
350g dark chocolate, broken in small pieces
250g unsalted butter
3 eggs
250g dark muscovado sugar
100g plain flour
1 tsp Baking powder

Method
1. Heat the oven to 170°C/gas 3. Lightly grease a 22cm square cake tin.

2. Melt the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water.

3. Whisk the eggs and sugar together for 2-3 minutes until smooth and fluffy.

4. Fold the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture.

5. Sieve the flour and baking powder into the mixture and stir to mix. Pour the mixture into the cake tin.

6. Place on the middle shelf of the oven and bake for 35 minutes until the surface is set. It is cooked when it just starts to crack on the top. Remove from the oven. Allow to cool completely in the tin.

7. Slice the cake into squares and store in a tin or in a container in the fridge.

How do you keep your Cheesecake from splitting
Posted: 12/4/2006 4:56:28 AM
dont bake at too high a temp, and leave to cool in the oven for 20 min before taking it out

Other option is to do light cheesecakes which do not require any baking, just mix all up and put in the fridge

I learnt to cook a little at school, but broadened a little more when at university

Then the ex wife could just about boil an egg, so I did most then. after the split, I got myself 3 excellent chefs knives which make cooking so much easier and enjoyable than it already had been.

If you want to cook different stuff, get yourself some non stick saucepans, a cheap wok from the local chinese store, and one or two blue steel frying pans. With these you can do loads of easy and good meals

Drop me a msg if you want some recipes as I cook for myself, but also need quick and easy meals when cooking for the guys at the fire station

The best pots and pans
Posted: 11/27/2006 1:14:36 PM
Lecrusse is a great make, cast iron with ceramic coating, but pricey. Ive got a large pot similar to a dutch oven that I use for stews and jambalaya

Other than that I use a set of 4 general non stick pans and a cheap wok bought from the local chinese supermarket

The best pans I have though are blue steel frying pans from the local cook shop, cost me about £36 for 2 but you can cook anything in these after seasoning them twice and nothing will stick, and you can put them in the oven

So personally I wouldnt say that expensive is best, just do some looking around
