expensive tv at poole hospital
Posted: 11/15/2009 4:38:05 PM

OK Can i just say, the TV/phone system is run by a private company.

It used to be Patientline until it went into administration its now another private company called Hospedia.
Its been suggested that the TV costs have risen since the lifting of the mobile phone ban in hospitals .......surprise! surprise!

Heres a link to an article of another disgruntled patient of Poole hospital in connection with TV charges .......

Do Forgotten Kids Deserve More?
Posted: 11/15/2009 5:58:03 AM

Gordon Brown is to apologise for the UK's role in sending thousands of its children to former colonies in the 20th century, the BBC has learned.

Under the Child Migrants Programme - which ended just 40 years ago - poor children were sent to a "better life" in Australia, Canada and elsewhere.

But many were abused and ended up in institutions or as labourers on farms.

Officials are consulting with survivors of the programme so that a statement can be made in the new year.

On Monday, Australia's prime minister will apologise to the 7,000 UK migrants living there for the mistreatment.

He will deliver a national apology to the "Forgotten Australians" and recognise the mistreatment and ongoing suffering of some 500,000 people held in orphanages or children's homes between 1930 and 1970.

As they were compulsorily shipped out of Britain, many of the children were told - wrongly - their parents were dead, and that a more abundant life awaited them.

Many parents did not know their children, aged as young as three, had been sent to Australia.

Care agencies worked with the government to send disadvantaged children to a rosy future and supply what was deemed "good white stock" to a former colony.

In many cases they were educated only for farm work, and suffered cruelty and hardship including physical, psychological and sexual abuse.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8361025.stm

Do you think these 'forgotten kids' deserve much more than an apology I.e Compensation and the chance to repatriate to the country from where they were deported should they wish?

Does Gordon Brown deserve such criticism over his miss spelt letter?
Posted: 11/11/2009 2:48:15 AM
no amount of condolence letters are going to help are they?

Yes, condolence letters are a way of letting people know that your thoughts are with them and offer sympathy ............they should be written with the utmost tact, diplomacy and sensitivity however this particular letter was not...........

Brown addressed this woman as "Mrs James" , left some words half-finished in his apparent haste and he misspelled the name Jamie, and rather than start the letter again, wrote over it.

The man even forgot to bow his head as he laid a wreath at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.

He's a fcuking disgrace and I feel totally ashamed that we have a representative who is unable to carry out such basic tasks which should come naturally to most of us that possess humanity.

Dating In Debt !!
Posted: 11/11/2009 1:15:43 AM

A pal of mine come across a dating site which is totally dedicated to those wishing to date but are in debt.
It is technically a free dating service that caters for people struggling with debt.
It gives them a chance to find "romance or maybe even marriage at a time in their lives when they might be feeling alone and isolated because of their financial worries."

It got me thinking .................

I have a female friend who says she would never get involved with a bloke who has to pay out money to his ex and still supports his kids financially if it meant them both struggling financially.

My question is ...............
Would it affect your decision whether to see someone again if on a first date they told you they were steeped in debt and would be for the foreseeable future?

What's With This Horoscope Stuff?
Posted: 11/10/2009 10:28:41 PM
I've noticed that people who follow their horoscopes tend to cherry pick the parts that may be remotely possible and are positive and dismiss or play down the parts that don't fall into their ideal.

But hey if horoscopes are a positive psychological influence on their daily lives then why not.

And why do most of my profile viewers seem to be Aries?

Think yourself lucky I seem to only get viewed by the cougars with poorly-applied lipstick, dentures and broken dreams.

New laws for men who pay for sex with vulnerable girls...is it enough?
Posted: 11/10/2009 11:38:36 AM

A majority of 'working girls' are drug addicts, the pimp will supply her with the drugs, give her a roof over her head to take those drugs and give protection while they earn them money prostituting (a pimp will want to protect his investment).

Its a 'trade off' most of the time.........they both get something out of it..........the pimp wants the money , the prostitute wants the drugs.

Playing devils advocate .................
without any 'controlled prostitutes' would we not have more needles in our kids playing fields, More abuse by violent punters , more crack houses in our neighbourhoods or less discretion selling themselves along our streets?
Will this new law create more vunerable situations ?

Imo They are tackling the symptom and not the cause.

Yes he does , we are talking about people who have died for their country , the very least our country can do for them is actually take a little time out and spell their names correctly.

Did Addict Prisoner Deserve Compensation?
Posted: 11/9/2009 11:42:02 PM

A former prisoner who took drugs in jail has been awarded £1.4million compensation because officials failed to prevent him becoming an addict.
Ellis Sherwood said he was 'pushed into a corner' to abuse heroin, cocaine and cannabis over 11 years after he was wrongly convicted of murder.
He was later cleared of the crime and suffered a serious stroke after being freed. His lawyers have since proved that the stroke was related to his prolonged drug abuse in prison.
But the amount of compensation was criticised amid warnings that the payout could open the floodgates for other claims from drug-taking prisoners.
Critics argued that no one is forced to take drugs in jail.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1226360/Man-wrongly-jailed-murder-wins-1-4m-compensation-having-life-ruined-drugs-took-locked-up.html

Did this addict prisoner deserve compensation as he claims he used the drugs as a coping mechanism for being wrongly convicted or are the critics right in saying it was his choice to take the drugs ?

I thought he may have known about me turns out he did not and well lets just say he invited me back to his but I declined then I was left wondering how am going to deal with the situation, if I was to tell I know he would treat me different even dump me

The bottom line is when you decieve people like this you are removing their choice which is selfish and ultimately will lead to your own unhappiness.

I'm a recovering alcoholic which is not too appealing to many but I owe people that choice by being honest with them.........they have the choice to stick around or the choice to leave.

It should not be 'all about you', your wants, & your needs ............there are others to consider in every potential relationship to give it a fighting chance!!

being honest with yourself?
Posted: 11/9/2009 11:29:44 AM

I have this poem framed at home, It holds a hell of a lot of meaning .............

The Man In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn’t your father or mother or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in you life
Is the one staring back from the glass.

You may be like Jack Horner and chisel a plum
And think you’re a wonderful guy.
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

He’s the fellow to please-never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear to the end.
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

living with a partner with an ex addiction
Posted: 11/9/2009 6:08:54 AM

I think someone earlier said there is no real recovery, no such thing as an ex addict, the temptation will always be there.

I disagree, as with all obsessions it must ultimately be conquered in the mind as this is where it is centred...........you can't solve a problem with the same mind that created it.
Without that mental change you have no real recovery.

Alcoholics/Drug addicts similar to those who suffer with a peanut allergy are fine until they take something which they react badly to.
There is very real recovery as thousands upon thousands will testify but an alcoholic will always suffer with alcoholism in the same way that someone suffering from an allergy will have and the best known cure not to trigger the mental obsession is total 'abstinence' from it.

The physical allergy will trigger the mental obsession and the ping pong match will commence back and forth ..........that is why they say 'don't pick up the first one'.

OP If your partner still finds his addiction a struggle after 2 yrs maybe he has not fully come to terms and accepted his addiction and may still think he can control it which as a recovering alcoholic myself I know is a dangerous ground to be on.

but do you think such realtionships can survive the urges of their past addictions

I think it largely depends on the above however I like to compare it to an ex girlfriend you may still love dearly and are not quite over so are not ready for a new relationship as you're not over the last one.

Imo I think the most important relationship is with yourself in early recovery of any addiction or past issues in a similar way to those who are not over ex's and should not be so selfish as to put their shite on anyone.

Food for thought though, In the same way that people avoid those with an alcoholic past I tend to avoid those who who are co-dependent on them and are drawn in a caring capacity ..........'Carers' also play their part and are as unwell as the alcoholic themselves.

If someone found themselves always being drawn to this type of person or returned to them time after time then maybe they should question themselves and their own self worth/self esteem or indeed co-dependent needs?

People are too selfish to become parents....
Posted: 11/7/2009 1:45:55 AM

He said that the birth rate in Europe is "dying" because people are too selfish to have children, preferring to spend their money on "consumerism and instant gratification".

Did he base this statement on factual evidence and genuine birth rates ??

Even if there were truth in what he was saying, what the hell is he doing imposing his own religion and beliefs onto those who believe in freedom of choice ??

I am not of Jewish religion therefore it is not my commandment to marry and have children.

However I do agree with with it in part where the 'waste of seed' is forbidden ..............any swallowers in da house ????

Obama's middle name is Arabic, Hussein I think without bothering to look it up on Google.

Without getting too involved in politics do you not think his name is an asset especially at this time for the west in pushing to make middle east peace talks? Strategic move ? President or puppet?

Its not possible too generalise based on a name, for example not every Tina is slag, or everyone called Tarquin is posh.

I agree its not but 'surnames' and their origin may tell a different story especially in where their belief lies.

Possibly but that dosen't answer my question? :) are we getting onto dangerous ground by turning innocent until proven guilty on its head?

No because 'exercising caution' or 'vetting' is not the same as condemning someone as guilty.
Many people who work with kids are vetted but they are not all accused of paedophilia because of the check !!

Thats a very bold statement to make, much like saying every Irish person named O'donnell is an IRA supporter

Not at all , certain religions are known to have followers who are extremists and fanatics where their belief goes way beyond any rational reasoning or loyalty to their guest homes.

Catholics as with Islamics have proven this fact on our own soil and Imo should be vetted more closely on their allegiance especially where a conflict of faith is concerned.

Arent we getting onto dangerous ground with this train of thought though? i.e. Guantanamo Bay @guilty till proven innocent?

Would the name 'John Smith' not have been treated with caution amongst its ranks of the Argentinian army during the Falklands fighting aginst the British?

New Eco Religion !!
Posted: 11/6/2009 12:51:58 AM

So at last, it is official. Personal convictions about the environment are no longer to be regarded as matters of logic or science, but belong to the world of faith. As from this week, they are subject to the 2003 Religion and Belief Act. A belief in global warming has been put on the same legal footing as a belief in the resurrection or the existence of hell.

While the position regarding employment rights is now clear – you can refuse to do anything which offends your green beliefs, however daft – there is some uncertainty as to how this will impinge on our daily life.

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/terence-blacker/terence-blacker-a-guide-to-the-new-ecoreligion-1815647.html

Are we becoming Androgynous?
Posted: 11/5/2009 1:18:02 AM

There was a time not so very long ago when certain behaviour was looked upon as being ‘unladylike’ and would be frowned upon but nowadays it seems anything go’s and women seem to be trying to outdo men in what some might call ‘outrageous behaviour’!

In the defence of women, there are also blokes who act 'ungentlemanly' too which was once frowned upon.

Is this a good thing, do men really want women to behave more like men, and do women really want to behave and be treated like men?

Its probably a good thing for Wayne seeking his Waynetta and vice versa !!

Call me greedy but I prefer a woman who is very feminine but also knows how to get down and get dirty when the need arises.

I'm sure most of us know what its like to be absolutely bladdered and dying for a p1ss and It sounds like this student may have been too p1ssed to even realise where he was urinating at the time.
We have all done things we regret after having had too many I'm sure ?

Had he have been sober and fully aware of his actions and carried out the same act then yes lock the fooker up but I think in this instance he has probably already learned a lesson in being publicly named and shamed and will I dare say have a fine to pay.

It was also a first world war memorial. A symbol of 'Britain' emperial/slave mongering/raping and pilaging past between two parts of the same empire. To call it a war would be foul play. It was a disgrace. Better off getting the JCB in and pulling it down. Better forgotten than remembered and anyone who was jumping the queue for 'national service' leaving their families behind was nothing other than a fool.

Maybe the reason between why you call yourself 'boy' and those of your age who died for us were called 'men' ??

of course making multiple daily posts on a forum and debating issues isn't going to make someone come accross as uncompromising or over opinionated !

That would depend if they were on here for the forums alone or dating or indeed the substance and style of posting.

why is it wrong to state what we don't like, it's how we make informed decisions ...

I dont think anyone is saying its wrong but rather negative.
If you come across two profiles with one listing their many likes and another listing their many dislikes which would be the positive of the two?

I can still love certain qualities about ex's and care for them in a similar way I am with friends but I am not in love with them and I think theres a difference between 'love' and being 'in love'.

Dislikes on a profile to me as a first impression conjure up a very negative image of a person and I believe negativety will attract negativety.
In many cases they can also come across as uncompromising and over opinionated.

A negative profile Is a bit like walking down the street and bumping into people full of woes ........I dont want to hear how bad they are doing everytime, I want to hear how good they are doing.........else ya know what .........people are eventually gonna cross the road to avoid them !!

Your profile is your window to sell yourself on here and make yourself as appealing as possible so why not use it positively and to its maximum effect??

Well done Boris for chasing off the gang of young hoodie girls ..................but did he make them drop their 'Twighlight stickers' in the pursuit on his BMX bike and did he make them late for school?

THREAD PREFERENCE
Posted: 11/3/2009 10:24:25 AM

I think the balance was just right about 2 yrs ago and before where there was some serious good debates going on but also where some more light hearted threads were let through which kinda balanced things out.

I find I'm very limited now in expressing my own opinion as I wish to in my posts /threads compared to how I once could.
I wont mention the 3 days I got in the cooler last week for attempting to do so !!

I'm not talking about other indicators just this one if you'd like to make a thread about other indicators feel free.

You mentioned the main indicator so there must be others which may be relevant in the debate and change opinions ??

In the article that im referring to it showed people reacting favourabily to symetrical images thats why i said it, I didnt pull it from thin air as an opinion. Perhaps i should have sourced it? it might make it easier to understand for you then? so here you go

Thank you, the OP generally includes info to base an opinion on in the first instance.
