Polygamy and Bigamy, could you?
Posted: 3/28/2006 8:24:16 AM
Well I wouldn't be interested in multiple men, it's difficult enough taking care of one man, however, I would love to have a sister to share the household responsibilities with who would be a wife to my husband also, I am not interested in converting to Mormonism to do it, we just don't believe the same, however we are definitly planning on having more than one wife.

POLYGAMY?
Posted: 3/28/2006 7:55:12 AM
Snuglekin

Hello, you have asked some very important questions on polygamy, when I first began thinking about my husband having more than one wife, I asked the very same questions, there was a difference for me though, when I thought about him being with this other woman or women I had no problem with it, I would caution you to be very careful, if you think you might begin to resent her there is a very real possibility you will, this would make her unhappy, you unhappy and the man unhappy also. This then is not a good idea. We certainly don't promote polygamy for everyone, some people choose to stay single others choose to marry only one wife, others choose to marry more than one. I don't want to advise you, however given what you have stated in the original post I would say this might not be a good thing for you.

Oh, I want so badly to crack a good Jewish joke right now, but I'll restrain myself.

I guess I am just a very politically incorrect Jew and I never was a Jewish princess, either.

Feel free to crack any good Jewish jokes, we certainly won't be offended, we also are not exactly politically correct, who would want to be in this day and age?

And to the posters above...you mentioned some pretty fantastic names...ie Moses, Solomon, et. al. I think it's ridiculous to draw any parallels between yourselves, and people such as that...almost seems blasphemous in a way...

That's an interesting statement, we believe they put their pants on the same way we do. Or well the same way Steve does since Kara only wears dresses. These fantastic men were only human, did you know Moses had a speech impediment and a temper, Solomon sinned by worshipping false gods, David sinned by coveting another man's wife, getting her pregnant, and having her husband murdered. Shall we go on about these great men? We believe what makes them great is that they recognized their sin, repented of it, and asked forgiveness.

New HBO series Big Love
Posted: 3/27/2006 8:58:29 PM
My husband and I were wondering about the new show Big Love, for any who are unaware or haven't watched the show, this is a new series about a Mormon family who practices polygamy. We thought we would begin a discussion on what people think about the show, or about the different polyamouros relationships in the world today.

Is There a Realistic Plan for Men During Marriage?
Posted: 2/3/2006 4:40:09 PM
Personally we think that monagamy is definitly not for everyone that is why Yahweh provides for people who feel called to scriptural polygyny.

The argument against legalizing polygamy here by one Queens prof, is that some of those relationships are deemed to be exploitive or abusive to some of the wives.

Since women in monogamous relationships are sometimes exploited or abused, I think we ought to next ban monogamous marriages as well.

The issue should not be the style of marriage relationship, but the overall treatment of women either in marriage or society in general. I would venture that we as a society have a lot of room for improvement before be dare to pre-judge other choices.

Thanks you have hit the nail right on the head.

I firmly believe marriage should be between two people.

You are correct there are many people who monogamy is very right for. We certainly don't advocate polygamy if that is not something you want to do. Bottom line it is your choice, just as this is our choice.
We see all the scripture, for some such as Paul, being single was right for them, for some others having only one wife at a time was right for them, for others such as David, Abraham, Moses, Peter, Solomon, and many many others having more than one wife was right for them.

As for the womans perspective, I was the one who approached my husband with the truth of having more than one wife, there is great blessing for me, companionship, sisterhood, friendship and many other such aspects. We understand that this is not something all women would care to explore, as there are many women who really don't like other women. For me though I like women, it's good to fellowship together with people who believe as I do.

How many men out there would choose polygamy over monogamy if it you could.
Posted: 1/15/2006 10:40:00 AM

This topic can produce some pretty funny comments! I chuckle at the responses as this topic is viewed from personal past experiences with the opposite sex! For a life style that has been experienced almost since the time of Adam and Eve, I desire more knowledge to understand this topic better before throwing out my two cents worth! Is there a "how to" or "why to" or "when to" or "pros and cons" or "why we do" or "why we don't" authoritative book on this topic worth reading and studying?

Certainly there is much pros and cons if you go to www.dogpile.com and type in the search box the word polygamy you will find much. Here are a couple of links that we have gained much truth through.

http://www.biblicalpolygamy.com/

http://www.polygamy.com/Practical/Ultimate.htm
this above site is entitled Polygamy The ultimate feminist lifestyle.
I know this may sound completely shocking especially to most feminists, however it is very interesting.

Hello all
Posted: 1/11/2006 9:37:24 AM
There have been many wonderful posts, also a lot of controversey was stirred up as well, clearly this is a much hotly debated issue.
We chose to be silent for a time to let feelings have a time to settle and hopefully come back to the Shalom (peace) that passes all understanding.
There is much to be learned from Yahweh's Scriptures and peoples thoughts and also much to be lost by getting inflamed and angry over different peoples views on a subject. This we believe we have seen here in this particular discussion.
We truly hope that everyone has grown from what they have learned here and pray that we can again discuss this in a peaceful and calm manner.

No we certainly don't believe polygamy is a sin, Yahweh truly has a special calling & blessing for men who seek more than one wife. We find it very interesting that the last USA census is right on with what we believe will happen in our lives, Yahweh has revealed to us that Steve will have 3 wives.

Aaron,
My recomandation is to take what your State's minimum child support guidelines are for your income and put that amount in a bank account for the child. I think you are perfectly smart and right to be insisting on a test to make sure the child is yours. Then if you find out the child is yours you will have that money all ready to support the baby.

Are Messianic Jewish people still Jewish ?
Posted: 1/7/2006 6:49:37 PM

I was just wondering how the messianic Jews here combine their beliefs:

Do you keep the Sabbath on Saturday (as Jesus did) vs. Sunday?
Do you keep Kosher?
Do you study the old testament or only the new?
Where do you pray?
Do you celebrate Jewish holydays as well as Christian?

Well we celebrate Sabbath on Saturday, even to the point of not driving long distances on the Sabbath, not cooking on the Sabbath, other than herbal medicine remedies when we are ill, and not working on the Sabbath, although Kara's work has tried to force her to do so, and we are in a legal battle over that as we write.

While we don't keep kosher as the Orthodox Jews do, ie seperate fridges, cooking utensils, and stoves, we do keep kosher according to the Torah, ie the old testament clean food laws.
We study and believe all scriptures both the old and new testament.

We pray in our home as there is no messianic synagogue for us to attend services where we live.

We celebrate only Jewish Holy Days and no "christian" holidays as they are pagan in origin.

not 1 of us is without sin

How right you are, however when David was confronted with the sin of Bathsheba what did he do? Repentance upon seeing that you have sinned is the only way to make your relationship right with Yahweh. David had deceived himself in thinking that he was right, the prophet had to confront him on his sin. I am sure this same prophet was sinful, as you say all have sinned, however what would have happened if this prophet had not obeyed Yahweh's word to tell David he was sinning? Being as he was going to the King of the land who could have him killed, I am sure he did so with the utmost respect and certainly didn't downgrade him in any way. This is where the spirit of love comes into play.

Is Gambling An Entertainment or a Sin ?
Posted: 1/5/2006 6:10:18 PM

I rarely gamble, or play lottery, but when I do I have never bet with the automatic assumption that I am gong to win. I think that's why it's called "gambling." Hence, I have predicted nothing.

Sadly though there are many others who bankrupt themselves or put their financial security at risk because they believe they will win.

Is Gambling An Entertainment or a Sin ?
Posted: 1/4/2006 6:28:00 PM

If someone invests money in a house, with the idea that the market will go up and he will sell the house at a profit, is that witchcraft? It is a form of trying to predict the future.

Yes I think it might be considered a form of predicting the future, however by that same token this house is just for profit, not meant for your use or any such thing. It would be a different story if this house was bought for the use of your family and you pass it down to your children and they pass it down to their children.
This does bring up an interesting question for me though, Yahweh has commanded us to owe no man anything but love, how can we owe a debt on a house and keep this commandment? Although this question I will admit has nothing to do with the original post.

Well, we would classify that more as common sense rather than fortune telling. As for the fact that you still got caught in traffic clearly this is a matter of determining what other drivers on the roads are going to do, and certainly we don't know what other's will do, ie have an accident, decide to go 5 minutes early, be 10 minutes late. We have no way of knowing what someone is going to do, however, we can base decisions on when to leave for appts on our knowledge say that there will be an accident that will cause traffic delays.

Sheltered Lives?
Posted: 1/4/2006 4:36:15 PM

Where's the biblical story about the talking donkey?! I might give that religion a second look.

Here it is: Taken from the HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1978 by the New
York Bible Society, used by permission of Zondervan Bible Publishers.

NUM 22:5 sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor,
near the River, in his native land. Balak said: "A people has come out of
Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me.

6 Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful
for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of
the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you
curse are cursed."

7 The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for
divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.

22 But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in
the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two
servants were with him.

23 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a
drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat
her to get her back on the road.

24 Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between two
vineyards, with walls on both sides.

25 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed close to the
wall, crushing Balaam's foot against it. So he beat her again.

26 Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place
where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left.

27 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam,
and he was angry and beat her with his staff.

28 Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What
have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?"

29 Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a
sword in my hand, I would kill you right now."

30 The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have
always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?"
"No," he said.

31 Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD
standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell
facedown.

32 The angel of the LORD asked him, "Why have you beaten your donkey these
three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless
one before me.

33 The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had
not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have
spared her."

34 Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned. I did not realize
you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I
will go back."

35 The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only
what I tell you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

24:2 When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the
Spirit of God came upon him

3 and he uttered his oracle: "The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle
of one whose eye sees clearly,

4 the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the
Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:

5 "How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel!

6 "Like valleys they spread out, like gardens beside a river, like aloes
planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters.

7 Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water.
"Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted.

8 "God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox.
They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces; with their
arrows they pierce them.

9 Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness--who dares to rouse
them? "May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be
cursed!"

31:8 Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba--the five
kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.

16 "They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of
turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that
a plague struck the LORD'S people.

DEU 23:4 For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your
way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from
Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you.

JOS 13:22 In addition to those slain in battle, the Israelites had put to
the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination.

24:9 When Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, prepared to fight against
Israel, he sent for Balaam son of Beor to put a curse on you.

NEH 13:2 because they had not met the Israelites with food and water but
had hired Balaam to call a curse down on them. (Our God, however, turned
the curse into a blessing.)

MIC 6:5 My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what
Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal,
that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD."

2PE 2:15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the
way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.

16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey--a beast without
speech--who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

JUD 1:11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed
for profit into Balaam's error; they have been destroyed in Korah's
rebellion.

REV 2:14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You have people
there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the
Israelites to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing
sexual immorality.

15 Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the
Nicolaitans.

How is gambling practicing witchcraft?

Gambling is a form of practicing witchcraft because you are using your money to bet by attempting to predict the future, also known as fortune telling.

Sentin,

'Arguing about religion is like two kids fighting over who has the strongest imaginary friend'

Lol, no argument from us, we are quite pacifist, and feel that what you believe is your right, same as what we believe is our right also. I have actually utilized a number of services that are clearly Orthodox in theme. I am of the firm belief that I shouldn't reject truth just because our beliefs aren't quite the same, for instance, I cover my hair, which is clearly an orthodox belief.
