G'day :)

So I get a lot of people viewing me, and when I send out a message it gets read, but I never seem to get any responses. So what's going on with my profile that's turning people away?

Lay it on me folks

UFC can not compare itself to boxing.

MA is still not realistic to real life fighting.. Would the jiu jitsu guys really want to be rolling around on cement? Would they like to lay on their backs in the guard if you could gauge their eyes or bash their head against the cement? Its fighting made for a ring. So you have something that is uglier in presentation, and still not realistic to a real life fight.

Actually yes. I myself train in BJJ and submission grappling and just recently I was in a fight outside of a ring/school, just your "typical street fight", and I did just that. I clinched up with the guy, took him down, controlled his posture and limbs so he wasn't able to punch me, or gouge my eyes, or slam my head. Eventually through my technique I was able to get on top, grab an arm and twist it until he gave up. BJJ and MMA have all kinds of practical applications on the street. Yes the other person can gouge your eyes, or punch your sack, or anything like that, but as a trained martial artist we know how to MOSTLY prevent that from happening.

Just my $0.02 is all :)

Nova Scotia not allowing organ donation from gay people?
Posted: 1/25/2008 7:29:05 PM
TallGirl, only speaking for myself but I fully understand about not having enough time to do a battery of proper tests, etc. However the points you made don't seem to have much to do with homosexuality vs hetero. Recipients will fight against rejection regardless of the sexuality of themselves or the sexuality of the person whom donated the organ. Both straight and gay people do drugs so that risk will always be there regardless of sexuality. Will a transplant team forgo a drug test on an organ from a straight person to save time, but risk loosing the organ just because it came from a gay person? West Nile virus, or any other virus for that matter can be transplanted and spread from any person to any other person regardless of age, sex, sexuality, race, etc.

I also know they reject all sort of family and friends, but when they do it's normally because they have a history of disease x, or carry health issue y, or have a higher risk of having or catching z. As far as I know homosexuality is none of the above.

I'm not trying to shoot you down, or anything of the sorts, and if you took offense to the above I apologize sincerely. It just struck me that in your post the points you mentioned had more to do with general problems/risks we all carry regardless of sexual preference. I'm sure you and your friend from the transplant team did talk about some homosexual specific points, they just may not have come across fully in your post. Or maybe I am just completely misreading it and missing the points you're trying to explain the way you're trying to get them across. Me being wrong is DEFINITELY been known to happen :D

Nova Scotia not allowing organ donation from gay people?
Posted: 1/11/2008 4:32:45 AM
Has anybody else heard about this?

I've been looking around the news papers, websites, etc, and can't find any medical evidence or reasoning as to why they've decided to do this. So far the only thing I can dig up is "it's all about risks". What specific risks are we talking about here?

I'd be all for this if there was proof that a homosexual person carried risk a, b, c whatever. Show me some scientific/medical evidence and I'm behind you 100%. But to deny somebody donating their organs because of their sexual preference disgusts me. Usable organs around here are hard enough to come by as it is, and now they're cutting back on the potential pool even more?

What about bi-sexual people? Are they only allowed to donate half their organs, or do they carry half the risk?? Now I myself and hetreo and I know if I was laying in a hospital bed desperately awaiting an organ that could save my life and a doctor came up to me and told me an organ became available but I couldn't have it because it came from a homosexual person? That I would have a huge problem with.

Until they come out with some hard evidence that organs from a homosexual person carry a much greater risk than those from a heterosexual this decision absolutely disgusts me.

Try Best Buy in Dartmouth, they may have some.

www.kijiji.ca has a bunch of unopened ones for sale, but above retail I can assure you.

Try one of "The Source" stores (used to be radio shack)

Win2kPro, will it work on a new blanked computer?
Posted: 12/15/2007 5:34:28 AM
Another thing I noticed is a lot of newer boards and chipsets aren't designed to work with 2k, only XP and above. Case in point my old laptop shipped with xp, and was designed with xp in mind, but when I formatted and put win2k on there it was sluggish and slow and the performance took a major hit just from having win2k on there. Yes I did have all the latest drivers, patches, sp's and everything. But as soon as I put xp back on the machine the speed was light years faster than what it was with win2kpro on there.

Just an observation from my personal experience.

Hurricane Noel Thread~ The 2nd Largest NS Storm Since 1893?
Posted: 11/4/2007 10:34:50 AM
Hardly anything happened here at all as far as I can tell. Our power went out maybe twice last night around 2 or 3 or so, but only for about 3 minutes each time. I slept through most of it actually. We had some pretty high winds but I went for a walk around the block on my way to the store today and maybe one or two trees had any significant damage.

I'm quite glad it wasn't nearly as bad as the forecasters were making it out to be. Defiantly glad we didn't have another Juan on our hands.

Ok here it's gotten much better also. The lightning has completely stopped, I can only hear a few drops of rain and aside from the odd gust of wind even that doesn't seem to bad at all. It's steady but not nearly as bad as people were expecting?

So is this the proverbial calm before the storm or were my predictions to my family accurate and this thing was all hype and no delivery?? :P

Ok so here in Spryfield we're getting a fair bit of rain and lightning just started. Couple of good flashes but nothing to severe yet. I can hear the wind but it's not bashing us quite yet. Will be interesting to see what happens in a few hours.

So far no power flickers or nothing of the sorts, but as we're starting to get lightning I've unplugged some of my electrical gear. Not nearly all of it as this doesn't seem to bad right now.

From what I read, Couture himself uses the word "resign" or "resignation", not "retire" or "retirement". I'd love to see him sign with M-1 to take on Fedor.

I do believe there is 9 months left on Couture's contract with the UFC and then after that he's free to do whatever he chooses career wise.

The way Randy made it sound he very well may take a one or two fight contract with M-1 just so he can fight Fedor, because it seems to me that is the only fight he's truly interested in right now.

I do indeed remember this and it was indeed a black day for Formula 1.

However I think the Bridgestone drivers did the correct thing. It wasen't their fault they brought the proper compound and Michellan didn't. Why should Bridgestone drivers be penalized for doing the right thing.

As far as the chicane (sp?) was concerned didn't Ferrari in the end agree to it, but then the race directors themselves scrap the idea saying it was still to dangerous or something to that effect?

So Randy Couture has shocked everybody by handing in his belt and retiring from the UFC. I'm shocked. Turns out he was getting quite underpaid as compared to other big name fighters, was disrespected by the company, and he feels with Fedor going to another organization there is no competition for him at the HW division.

I think the 100mil was a little to much if you ask me. The constructors points was more than sufficient. Because of this they're going to loose prime position in the pit lane. They're going to be dropped from 4 pit boxes to 2, thus restricting the amount of equipment they can bring to races, room to work on the cars, amount of people they can hold. The people restriction also includes sponsors, etc, thus reducing their potential revenue to put into testing, etc.

I'm actually a huge Ferrari fan, but I think penalty is rather stiff.

If she coulden't work due to a disability, illness, or something else preventing her from working then I'd consider it.

However if she was just unable to hold a job, kept quitting every job just because "she didn't like it" or some other foolish reason, or was just to lazy to go out and get one or work. THen that's the kind of woman I don't want around me in a relationship.

Attached, married, or “seeing someone”??? WTF
Posted: 8/30/2007 3:43:29 PM
I'll chime in as one of those folks that are on here even though I'm in a relationship.

First of all my relationship is great and woulden't change it for the world.

I'm on here because, as it says in my profile, I'm here mostly for the forums, and to meet some new friends.

Let me explain that last sentence LOL

While I was single I met and got to know a number of people on here, some of which I dated, and others not. That being said I have made a lot of new friends and connections through this site, and I value these friendships and they have made me happy and a better person. I see no reason to stop trying to expand my & our circle of friends just because I'm in a relationship.

Before any of you ask, yes my girlfriend knows I'm on here. She knows I post on the forums and she knows I send messages to people away from the forums that I seem to have a common interest with or something I would like to say in private.

Yes I'm in a wonderful relationship with an even more wonderful girl, but I'm still on here to make some new friends and have a good time on the forums.

Will Randy Couture win his next fight?
Posted: 8/19/2007 10:59:53 AM
I personaly think Gonzaga will take the fight. On the feet it's a close call, but I think Gonzaga's striking has come such a long way I don't know if Coture can handle it. I don't think Coture stands much of a chance on the ground. Gonzaga was more known for his BJJ before that CroCop fight, so Gonzaga's ground game is phoenominal.

However Randy does have that x factor that he always seems to find a way to pull it out. His conditioning is exceptional, and his ability to take a punch is great. Yes he got dropped twice by Chuck, but Chuck is sort of the exception to the rule as he pretty much has the hardest hands in MMA right now (imo).

My prediction Gonzaga, Triangle Choke, 3min in 3rd round, due to Gonzaga pulling guard on Randy because he is loosing the standup.

He doesn't like to talk on phone...should I worry
Posted: 8/18/2007 4:53:56 AM
I myself don't overly like talking on the phone. Perhaps it's the curse of the digital age but I much prefer texting someone or IM'ing someone. That being said if I haven't seen my gf in a while I do call her at least once a week because I just miss her voice sometimes and need to hear it and her mine. But I've never been much of a phone person, so if he doesn't call a whole lot anymore I woulden't worry about it to much.

I also know that I have no problem talking on the phone if she calls me first. So if you want to hear him or talk to him on the phone try calling him first?

I woulden't want my gf to do anything with me she wasen't comfortable with.

But if it were one of my favourite passtimes I hope she would understand if I still wanted to go out and do said activity without her. I don't think I could be with somebody who wanted me to stop doing something I enjoy doing because they don't like it and think it's perhaps dangerous.

Posted: 8/18/2007 4:32:56 AM
I find with each new partner I have to gauge where their sensitivity level is at. My current gf has really sensitive nipples and is only into the softer stuff, whereas my last couple partners liked their nipples treated a little rougher

It's all about getting to know your partner and where their comfort level is.

Would you date any of your Ex's again?
Posted: 8/2/2007 5:07:55 AM
My initial reaction to this question is, like most people, no they're my ex for a reason.

But then I got to thinking and if that "reason" changed than for a couple of them I would probably consider it. I've lost a relationship to distance, but if that distance were to not be a factor (and providing I was single at the time), then yeah I'd probably date her again. Lost another one to an abuse problem, but if she were to clean up her act than I'd consider it again.

So my initial knee-jerk reaction is no, but if the circumstances were right, then yeah I may consider it.

When sleeping either with my partner or by myself I generally tend to keep just a pair of boxers on. I just find it more comfortable for myself.

HOWEVER if some point through the night the partner and I decide to have a little fun after it's all over the boxers tend to stay off and we normally fall asleep completly naked and stay that way until morning.

What are the things you think need to be done in the HRM to make it a better place to live?
Posted: 8/1/2007 5:28:18 PM
Just a couple of things off the top of my head,

More parking downtown. A lot of medical places, events, etc are downtown, and there's not nearly enough parking.

Do something with Exhibition Park. The city has allllll that land out there, and they're not doing anything with it. Rather than tear apart our commons for concerts or flood and screw over downtown halifax with traffic every time there's an event renovate and upgrade that area out there. PLENTY of parking, and even now when the fiar is in town Metro Transit has shuttle busses leaving from the mumford terminal.

Have a more visable police presence. Not just downtown but EVERYWHERE. Have foot patrols or bicycle police again roaming the streets in pairs. We can all name "trouble areas" around here, both downtown and in other parts of HRM, lets see more police just sitting in their cars on corners or just driving around the communities making themselves visable. I'm not saying it will stop everything but hell if putting a few more cars in a select few communitites will keep even one punk person from mugging some elderly person for the $15 they may have on them then I'm all for it

Edit: Ok I just thought of something else. I'm probably going to take heat for this, but heck may as well throw it out there. MANDATORY driving tests for all drivers over the age of 60. I think driving tests every 3, and written and driving every 5. I know there are a lot of "elderly" people who have had their liscence longer than most of us have been alive, and a lot of said people have no business being on the road anymore. I'd say a large number of them don't even know the rules of the road anymore becuase they've changed so much. Not only that but let's face it after a certain age the eye sight starts to go, the reaction time gets worse, and the mind can't keep up as easily with everything going on. I'm not saying everybody over that age is automatically a bad driver, I'm just saying driving tests for people in that general age group would help keep a lot of "bad" drivers off the road

ARE MEN 'BABIES' WHEN THEY GET SICK OR is it just women
Posted: 7/15/2007 1:38:09 AM
I have a really awesome immune system so I rarely get sick. When I have a cold/flu/virus it's easy for people for me to tell, but I still go to work, still push myself, and still carry on not needing or wanting any help.

When I have an upset stomach from something I ate, or am just in general having a crap health day I normally want to be just left alone to suffer in peace.

However, there are those times when some particularly nasty bug comes by and kicks my arse. Those days when I can't move, am stuck in bed, body kicking my arse, am only concious for a few moments and every muscle in my being is hurt/tired/weak/screaming then I'll be the first to admit I'll try to be manly about it but I fail miserably. And on those days it's DAMN nice to have someone around to take care of me. Even if it's just to come by and wipe my hair outa my face, kiss my forehead and put a cold cloth on or something. I don't revert to "big baby" mode very often but I'll admit it damn well does happen.

Have you missed your true vocation...
Posted: 7/14/2007 9:56:46 AM
When I was younger I always wanted to do something with computes. I always enjoyed figureing out how they worked, repairing them, different aspects of them. To that end I became an IT systems/network administrator. It's what I'm doing and I love it, and it is very fulfilling.

However now I'm starting to discover I have a very strong cullenary side to myself. I love to cook, and invent new recipies or play around with food. So I'm thinking had my life taken a different turn and had I become a chef of some sorts I could have done great things as well.

Perhaps when I hit the wall and feel it's "time for a change" I may look into persuing a new career. Who knows what the future may bring.

Even if you were to wink at me or send me a message or something, and I look at your profile and am not interested at all (pic or no pic), I would at least take the time and decency to send you a message back saying "Thanks, but I'm not interested right now". So what happens when the guy thinks the smell is funky? Does he like, make an excuse to leave, does he tell her? I didn't know guys did that

If the fella is still interested if the finger test fails then we normally start kissing the lips, neck, ears, etc, all the while positioning ourselves to get right to the main attraction. If we've already done the finger test means we've already had forplay down there so you're at least somewhat lubricated down there, and the kissing in the intimate spots helps along quite nicely.

Met with a handshake
Posted: 7/11/2007 12:38:29 PM
Where I'm at (eastern Canada) it's normal and common for two people of the opposite sex to meet for the first time either with a verbal hello or greeting or a handshake. Myself, however, have spent most of my "adult life" outside of this country and as such I grew accustomed to hugging members of the opposite sex right away even on first meeting, so that's what I personally do. So far *knock on wood*, there hasen't been anybody freaked out or anything by it, and seems to be accepted, but it's not nearly as common as other countries.

Ask a stupid question...

Because they call it "devil's cake" for a reason. It makes your body do all sorts of weird, but yet quite often wonderful, things.

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

who is the number 1 sporting legend?

I'm in a toss up between 3 people. Michael Jordan, Michael Schumacher, and Bruce Lee.

All three made major and undeniable contributions to their respective sports, and are legends.

Tattoos and Piercings

I'm currently with someone whom has a couple of tattoos, one discreet, one obvious, but they both are tasteful and I enjoy them quite a bit.

Tattoos on a woman can be VERY attractive or VERY un-attractive. It all depends on what is done and where it's at. I see some women around who have tattoos of their children, or loved ones and it looks amazing. But on the flip side one of the most un-attractive tattoos I think I've ever seen was I saw a young woman (late teens perhaps early 20's) with the words "toss it up" tattooed right above her butt crack. I'm sure some guys may find it attractive, I on the other hand just found it slutty and un-tasteful.
