Why do so many people hate Emo?
Posted: 5/31/2009 5:49:09 AM

what passes for emo these days isnt even really emo.emo was emotinal hardcore instead of writting about politics and that jazz they wrote about bad life experinces.mainsteam so called emo is either pop punk,mall-core and really crappy wannabe goth rock.the some bad thoughs about emo have gone to screamo too and the mainstream as twisted its meaning to.if you want to hear emo listen to rites of spring, fugazi, and sunny day realestate.for actual screamo listen to orchid, circle takes the square there are plenty of others.people need to not judge music by the mainstream crap that plays on your radios, sells in your malls and ruins music scenes.

What about vinyl? Anyone here rummage through a stingy old shop every weekend looking for a hidden treasure? Or ya know.... browsing ebay for hours to find rare original pressings of things.... or spending half your pay cheque on a dying media format?.... anyone ....

Hardcore

nobody in here mentioned any of the old boston bands so i'll take care of that. siege, ss decontrol, jerry's kids, dys, gang green, the freeze, proletariat, deep wound, outpatients, negative fx...all good old style hardcore. the freeze were/are a little poppier than the others and a few of those bands (ssd and gang green come to mind mostly) had an era of really crappy rock/metal that i dont recommend.
and if you like black flag you should check out annihilation time and ds-13 plays some raging hardcore in the vein of minor threat. and if you're more into the newer style of hardcore, like american nightmare, you should check out final attack from indonesia and gold kids from italy

Boston is a hardcore/punk mecca. I swear every other band that comes out of that city is amazing. What the hell is in the water there? Or is it the anger of how long it is taking (or took??) to build that damned tunnel.

To the OP, while yer at it, check out American Hardcore. The book first, then see the documentary. There is more in the book.

Blood for Blood rules.
Minor Threat
Black Flag
DOA is awesome and Canadian!
INTERNATIONAL SUPERHEROES OF HARDCORE! (aka NFG... ahaha)

Also, if you have the means, check out Risky Business. They are from here. More of the Posi style hardcore. the whole PMA kinda thing and such.
Then theres Bus Pass... more of a tough guy style... like Blood for Blood.
and xEnvisionx old sXe band from the mid 90's from around here. Some of the members in the band now were only 5 years old when the band started out haha. The only original member is the singer now.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC?
Posted: 5/2/2009 6:52:54 AM
Hank III is good country, in my opinion. Stuff on the radio is.... mediocre at best most of the times.

How do you Discover music?
Posted: 5/1/2009 8:31:51 PM
Id rather find an artist, than a single song. I usually open up the cd books or the album covers, and check to see what bands they thank, or have toured with to see new bands to listen to.

Susan Boyle

Absolutley amazing. She is bound to have a makeover. But still... Even if she has a 15 minutes of fame... she'll make tonnes of money. She no longer needs to worry about being unemployeed. I can forsee her being in musicals for a long long time.

Your biggest mistake as an artist?
Posted: 4/14/2009 6:35:15 PM
My biggest mistake was focusing too much on one sound with my music, and not looking into the theory and other genres. Im having such a difficult time right now figuring new stuff out. It suuuccckkkss... My advice to young kids is not to go into their music teacher and ask to learn a song. Ask to learn the instrument... soon enough, youll be writting all the songs for everyone. I cant even figure out my own guitar solos... bargh.

Acting

My friends run a small, extremely low budget (re: no money at all) film company. And we make a short or two a month. I act in quite a few. I dont know any technique except the beer technique. ... get them drunk. They are deffinetly going to do something that can be used.
