So where does this leave us old blokes, competing for the attention of you gorgeous 'old bags'??!! lol
I am far more flattered by and interested in attention from a man in my age range than in a much younger man.

Is this a fact? Where are the stats on the site users? Be interesting to know why there are so many more men that women.
I think, age wise, there are more men than women in the younger age ranges. It may not be true in the 45+ range. But, I am only guessing. I also had an idea, a brain storm, hee hee, that that may be why so many young guys contact older women: there are just too many men in their age range to compete with over the younger women. Not very flattering for us old bags, but in general, all those contacts from the 20 somethings to 30 somethings is not very flattering anyway. And, of course, I could be all wrong---it can happen....

Interesting how so many are ignoring how the Muslims are trying to transform England
Now you are making a blanket statement about England. Do you live there? Have you ever lived there? Have you even ever been there? On what basis do make this claim? Do you have valid evidence to back up such a claim?
During the reign of the British Empire, the British colonized a great proportion of the Muslim world. Thus, they have, and have had for many generations, Muslims living in Great Britain. They are not 'taking over' They are affecting the culture, yes. In the same way Italian, Irish, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Jewish, and other immigrant populations have influenced American culture. They are creating a niche for themselves, yes. It is the way of history that that happens. The influx of peoples from other parts of the world always influences and changes a culture. Cultures are not stagnant. Be aware of the history of human civilization.

MAYBE if we could hear inside people's heads out there, we'd be more discouraged. I think the threads here are "inside people's heads" talk.
...I think most of this is "inside" talk. Unfortunately there is an awful lot of inside talk going on and a great deal of it is quite nasty....
... there are those that really do think like this in their head but they know they can't say it outloud in their real lives because of perceptions and repercussions. So they come in here and vent all those saved up thoughts....
Agree.

potential employers only look at the jobs you've had
Being a full time homemaker, especially when there is no spouse, is a job. An employer will respect it if you present it as skill based experience instead of apologizing for it.

I'll tell you what I "hate". When you disagree with someone, and they call you "obtuse" or "stupid" or say "you're not thinking correctly" because you've come to a different conclusion. It seems a common accusation in threads.
I do so much agree with you here.
I can't believe someone held up Turkey as a Country that repects Christianity...
I lived there. Have you? I lived there for 2 years. And worked with and lived among and was friends with and socialized with and traveled with Turkish people, all Muslims. Turkey does respect Christianity. There are Christian churches all over Turkey. There are Christian Turks. There are some extremists there, as there are fundamentalist extremist Christians in the US. Such people do not represent the preponderance of the population.
I think a major problem is because of ignorance about each other, there are certainly people living in the Middle East, and Turkey, who believe that all Christians hate all Muslims, as there seem to be people living in Christian cultures who believe all Muslims hate all Christians. In reality the opposite is true. There are billions of Christians and billions of Muslims on this planet. The vast majority of Christians don't hate Muslims and the vast majority of Muslims don't hate Christians. The immigrants you seen in England and Europe are fundametalist, uneducated people who do not represent the majority of people in their homelands. It is the poorest of the poor and the most uneducated and ignorant who are usually immigrants. Their perspective is not a reflection of the majority perspective in regards to their religion or culture.
And btw, those people who were killed in Turkey were Chrisitan missionaries. There to convert Muslims to Christianity. I in no way am even slightly suggesting there was an excuse for this murder. What I do suggest is that it be looked at from another perspective: Islam is an established and world wide religion: how would Christians feel if Muslims came to their town and tried to convert them to Islam, as if Christianity was not a valid spiritual force? Ignorant, fundamentalist, poorly educated Christians might react violently as well: it's been known to happen.

based on your limited experiences
I lived in 2 Islamic countries for a total of 4 years. I worked with, befriended and lived among Muslim people. No one ever bothered me one bit. What's your extensive experience with Muslim people, except for reading sensationalist articles in the newspaper about the kind of extreme events that happen everywhere between peoples of all ethnicities, cultures, and religions? Turkey has a population of over 60 million people. The incident you cite is an single incident perpetrated by a very few people. It's like taking a murder somewhere in the hills of Idaho where white supremesists kill a black man and saying all Americans are like that.

Facts About Erectile Dysfunction
What Is Erectile Dysfunction (commonly known as "impotency")?
• Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to achieve and/or sustain an erection for satisfactory sexual performance.
• Erectile dysfunction is the most common sexual disorder in men.
• Degrees of erectile dysfunction:
• Mild……….successful erection 7-8 out of 10 attempts
• Moderate….successful erection 4-6 out of 10 attempts
• Severe…….successful erection 0-3 out of 10 attempts
• Men experiencing erectile dysfunction often report increasing anxiety, loss of self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, tension and difficulty in the relationship with their partner.
Erectile Dysfunction Statistics:
• One in 10 men in the world have erectile dysfunction.
• 30 million men in the United States have erectile dysfunction.
• 50% of men with diabetes have erectile dysfunction, frequently within 10 years of diagnosis.
• The likelihood of erectile dysfunction increases with age: 39% at age 40, 65% over the age of 65.
• Smokers have a higher likelihood of erectile dysfunction. Men who smoke more than 1 pack per day have a 50% higher chance of impotency than nonsmokers the same age.
Erectile Dysfunction appears to be on the rise:
• More men are experiencing impotency because the baby boomer generation is getting older. According to same reports, every 7 seconds a baby boomer turns 50 years old.
• Awareness of the problem is increasing, which increases the number of men who are treated.
• Because, in the past, men have generally been unwilling to talk about their problem or seek treatment, erectile dysfunction has been underreported.
• Many physicians are not aware of the treatment options, so patients have been either undertreated or not treated at all.
• According to a report in Newsweek, 11/17/97, "Each new drug, with its attendant publicity, brings more men into the game. Some urologists expect the number of men seeking treatment to double in the coming years."
Causes of Erectile Dysfunction:
• Arterial Insufficiency (Vascular disease): Diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking
• Surgery: Prostate removal for prostate cancer, pelvic surgery for colon cancer
• Nerve damage: Spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, stroke
• Endocrine imbalance: Low testosterone levels
• Emotional/psychological: Depression, stress, anxiety
• Medications/drugs: Blood pressure medication, alcohol, sedatives, narcotics
Treatment Options
Oral medications:
• Phosphodiesterase Type 5 (PDE5) Inhibitors
o Viagra (Sildenafil) - Pfizer
o Levitra (Vardenafil) - Bayer/Glaxo-Smith Kline
o Cialis (Tadalafil) - Icos/Lilly
• Unlike the other treatment options described below, PDE5 inhibitors do not cause an immediate erection. These pills work by blocking a chemical in the penis that normally causes the erection to subside. In this way, PDE5 inhibitors enhance the erection as it begins to occur. The pills are taken as needed and are effective only when a man is sexually stimulated. Viagra and Levitra should be taken on an empty stomach (to allow for maximum absorption) and will typically be effective 30 - 45 minutes later. Cialis can be taken regardless of meals and studies have reported effectiveness within 30-45 minutes of ingestion. Viagra and Levitra will typically stay in your system for about 4-6 hours whereas Cialis is reported to be effective for up to 24-36 hours after ingestion.
• As with most medications, PDE5 inhibitors can interact with other medications and cause detrimental effects. Nitrate medications, such as nitroglycerin and Isosorbide dinitrate (Isordil) as well as the recreational drug Amyl nitrate, cannot be taken at any time if you are using PDE5 inhibitors. For patients considering using Cialis, it is important to avoid nitrate medications for up to 48 hours after ingesting Cialis. Alpha - blocking medications, another class of medications, can also cause drops in blood pressure if taken with PDE5 inhibitors. Alpha blocking agents are commonly used to control blood pressure as well as to treat symptoms of prostate enlargement. Alpha- blockers include Hytrin (Terazosin), Cardura (Doxazosin), and Flomax (Tamsulosin). For patients taking Viagra you must avoid taking alpha- blockers within 4 hours of ingesting Viagra. For patients taking Cialis, you can only take Flomax at a dose of 0.4 mg daily. Use of Cialis with Hytrin or Cardura or a higher dose of Flomax is prohibited. Use of Levitra with any type of alpha-blocker is prohibited.
• PDE5 inhibitors have been shown to be effective for treatment of erectile dysfunction. Viagra has been available since 1998 and experience with this medication has shown approximately 70% of patients will have a positive response to Viagra. Studies using Levitra and Cialis have shown similar results with regard to effectiveness although they have only been approved since 2003.
• Side effects are similar for all three types of PDE5 inhibitors with the most common being headaches, facial flushing, nasal congestion, indigestion and visual disturbances. Studies using Cialis have also reported back pain and muscle aches in a small percentage of patients, which have not been reported to occur with Viagra or Levitra.
Vacuum Pump:
• The penis is inserted into a plastic tube while a hand-held vacuum pump draws blood into the penis. A constriction device is then place around the base of the penis to prevent the blood from leaking out of the penis. The plastic tube is then removed and sexual activity can begin. The constriction device must be removed from the penis after 30 minutes.
MUSE Intra-urethral suppository:
• A patient slips an ultrathin applicator into the opening at the tip of his penis and gently pushes a plunger that releases a small, rice-sized pellet of the medication alprostadil. The medication is absorbed into the penis and dilates the blood vessels in the penis causing an erection to occur usually within 10-15 minutes.
Injection therapy:
• The medication alprostadil (available as Caverject and EDEX) is injected directly into the penis, causing dilation of the blood vessels in the penis. An erection usually occurs within 10-15 minutes and generally lasts 45-60 minutes.
• A rare but serious side effect is priapism, which is an erection that lasts more than four hours, potentially causing tissue damage in the penis.
Surgical implants:
• Various mechanical devices may be implanted into the penis, which provide rigidity. One of the more popular devices is an inflatable penile implant that is activated by squeezing a pump in the scrotum. Penile implants are completely within the body, much like breast implants, and are generally not visible to others, especially the inflatable penile implants. Placement of the implant requires a surgical procedure that is covered by Medicare insurance.

Not meaning to blame anyone; just going by the documented facts as they are known. We should all take good care of ourselves. As with other physical issues, sometimes we can prevent problems if we take care of ourselves, sometimes we can't prevent problems no matter what we do.

^^^Funny thing about Christmas. I don't really celebrate it, though I like to have a Christmas tree, if I'm going to be home, which is rare as I usually travel at that time of year. Three years ago, I spent Christmas week in Istanbul with a Turkish (Muslim) friend. We went to a Christmas celebration at the school where she was teaching. There was a turkey dinner, a log fire, a huge tree, and the singing of Christmas Carols. First time in probably 30 years I sang Christmas Carols....and it was in a Muslim country. At least in Turkey, they respect other peoples' religions. When I lived there, I had gone to Greece in October. While there, I bought an artifical Christmas tree. When I was coming back into Turkey and going through customs, they started to open the box, and asked me what was inside. When I said Christmas decoration, they immediately stopped trying to open the box and waved me through. Respect for other peoples' religion. It's a pretty simple concept.

"The mayor of an Austrian town named “Fvcking” is pleading with tourists to stop stealing its road signs for souvenirs.
“Fvcking has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr. Fvck or the Fvck family moved into the area,” said Siegfried Hauppl. “We all know what it means now, but for us, Fvcking is Fvcking we don’t give it a second thought.”"

Are you looking for those special traits?

When I have reached out to people that I would like to talk to, I get some responses back like "your way too tall for me" or " I am looking for someone with brown hair" or "there age difference is too much for me" (that one was 5 years older than I).
When you search for people, you can do it many ways. I was looking to know if men, search for shorter women over taller, or large chested over smaller chested, or asain decent. Do women look for men with lots of hair on there heads or bald, shorter or taller, thin or normal?
When someone comes here to POF, do they have a picture in there mind of what they want. For some women it maybe good looking, tall, red hair, etc. For some men it could be Shorter, a little heavy, smaller chest. And is that the way they choose who they will possibly date in the future, based on what is in there mind?
I think, OP, for some people, the answer to your question is yes, though they may not admit it. An awful lot of people go by physical appearance, job, and other obvious outward traits. Especially in online dating, which to some people seems to be like going to the market and looking at the shelves full of merchandise.
Other people are more concerned with the inner person. I think you just have to keep looking until you find a woman who is not focused on the outward appearance and traits but on the inner man.

I have never bought an umbrella in my life, even though I currently have three, I have always managed to find an umbrella.
So, is this behaviour 'normal', has anyone else ever managed to 'exist' on this planet for 46 years (or any other quite lengthy period) without the need to purchase an umbrella?
I have never managed to exist, in adult life, w/o an umbrella. The only times when it seems to be okay is if I am wearing a good raincoat with a hood. In autumn, winter and fall, I carry an umbrella everyday. I've never considered just taking one I found lying around. I'd be incensed if someone picked up mine because I temporarily left it somewhere; and, in fact, that seems to have happened. It's how I lose them. Leave it lying somewhere for a short time, go back, and it's gone. :-(

Took a sabbatical after death of spouse to raise children.
I would write: "full time home maker"--then list specific skills, which include driving, money management, time management, educational assistance, child care, organizational proficiency, etc. If you think about it, and list the skills a homemaker uses, they are the same type of skills a good employee has. Back many years ago, I was a personnel assistant (i.e., the personnel manager's secretary
)
That personnel manager was a woman. I coached one female applicant to fill out her application just as I explained above. Like you, she was someone who had been a homemaker and had not worked outside the home in years. The personnel manager was thrilled with the application and hired the applicant.
Good luck!!

i believe some of these forum "personalities" are acts.
I agree with this. I think there are a lot of people who come off as angelic on here--they never yell, they don't get angry
Definitely, some people are 'acts,' here, and often in RL for their entire lives. It's a way to be liked, to 'belong,' to validate oneself. There are the people here, also, who are always nasty and rude. In RL, I imagine they have to temper that behavior, but online, behind a computer screen, they give themselves full reign.

Why would a country spend billions on a new space programme and yet let it's people suffer?
Why do the UK send over £200 million in aid and yet we hardly see the results- I think it's out of some guilt trip more than anything. Also, I am a liberal but I hate giving money to people on the streets, simply as I don't know if it's aiding them or destroying them but when I saw the railway children, it really punched me in the gut.
India is a complex and fascinating, as well as heart breakng, place. I've been twice now and want to go again and see a lot more. Most of the children and women who begged from me asked me to buy them food. They didn't ask for money. One of the big questions: why spend all that money on creating a space program and nuclear war heads when the majority of their people are suffering? Economically, it India is improving. I think in order for many of those who suffer to improve their lot, the culture will need to change it's approach to the caste system. There is beautiful art and literature that has come out of India. India is so diverse. It goes from the sublime of humanity the the dregs of humanity and covers every inch of the spectrum.

With all the insane asshat issues that so many people seem to have in the real world with relationships, have you ever realised your not missing much if this is really what the world is turning into?
Most of what is posted is asinine at best, yet these people seem to think it's the norm.
Then with the serious replies those threads get, I'm starting to think it is too.
I mean who really needs all of the chaos, drama, and childish problems in their lives?
I have often wondered if most don't meet while in line at the pharmacy getting their anti psychotic/depression scrips filled.
So does reading threads help you find comfort in only having relationships with family and friends , if anything just to avoid ever running into some of the ignorant asshat people ?
.....hmmmm.....too much irony for me....

Oprah show ending - Arrogant to the end.

... if she were conservative and used her public voice to endorse conservative ideals, she would be their darling. None of them would complain about her having that much power and not being an elected official.
And as far as her being arrogant.... To come from where she came from and to do what she did, in what was previously an all boys club, is nothing short incredible....
Do you think it matters to all of the people she's helped along the way whether she did so out of her own self importance or out of pure altruism? ...she did something to make peoples lives better. And she's done so (and justly so) on a large scale. ... 50 million a year is considered, "much" by most accounts.
I am not a fan of Oprah. I am indifferent. Can't see she is any worse than other celebrities, and most likely she's better than quite a few. It is very true that many who may not like a liberal, rich, succesful black woman would be very enamored of a celebrity who is a conservatve, white, male (Limbaugh comes to mind), who appears to be audacious and arrogant.
She has, indeed, been very philanthropic, donating millions a year to charity. And it is true, to those who have benefited from her philanthropy, it doesn't matter if she has done it to feed her own ego or not.

The International Journal of Impotence Research found that the study's estimate that 35 percent of men from age 40 to 70 have moderate to severe erectile dysfunction was ''considerably higher'' than those of the 13 other epidemiological studies it reviewed, which covered various age groups in different countries and found prevalence rates ranging from 5 to 20 percent.
The prevalence rate may be overstated. As has been stated here and elsewhere, healthy, fit (flat stomach, for example) men w/o diabetes and other health issues generally do not have this problem.

When we were young, things were pretty simple

bad things happened even then, we just didn't know about them all the time
When I went to high school, my mom drove me to school in the morning. Afternoons, most days I walked home, about an hour's walk. Always along the same route, for 4 years. Some years later, it turned out I had been walking past a murderer's house. Someone who had murdered a young couple on the lover's lane of our city. But hadn't been caught and convicted until many years later. Yep, there were plenty of bad people out there.

Maybe the world has changed a lot? From the time I was 17 until about 24, I worked in restaurants on and off quite a lot. I never saw or heard of anyone doing anything to a patron's food. Some of these posts suggest it is the norm to do disgusting things to a restaurant patron's food. I am very sceptical. But, maybe things have just changed that much. Sad.

Have you ever been in Siena?

I've spent a few years in Siena and I was wondering what people who visit it think about it ?
A few years? It's a lovely town and a lovely region of Italy, Tuscany. It's a nice place to visit. Probably be a nice place to live. Not a huge town (60,000) but in a good location for seeing Italy. Gets an awful lot of tourists, though, especially in summer.

If you want to to see a movie or play, you should feel free to do so alone and not feel alienated or embarrassed because you choose to go solo!
I do so agree!!

How are there so many people outside during the day?

What I find, is that when I take an afternoon or morning off to go to the doctor/dentist or take care of some other personal business, and I ride public transport where I live, there are a lot, a lot of retired people out and about. Also, moms and little kids. As far as people of working age, I also think if you see them out and about during a week day, it's because they work other than 9-5 Mon-Friday jobs. Lots of people work evening or night shifts, or work week ends and so have days off during the week.

Does morality tend to get lost in the advance of technology or is it the forebearer? Does anyone want to predict what 30 years from now will bring?
I think things have changed, they are different, but not necessarily any worse. I have direct experience daily with kids from all over the world. They are not any different than kids ever have been. They may be a bit more sophisticated as far as the 'ways of the world,' and they may be engaging in sexual activity at a younger age (some of them, not all: many have their own personal take on what is right for them and wait until they are ready, which is often not until college). I think, always, times change, and whatever age or era we are living in, we see the difficulties and hardships. But, if we look with open eyes and knowledge at human history, all things considered, we are not living in a time that is worse than any other. And kids are just as good as they ever were.

Sex is sex and we no longer need to give or receive affection? What has happened to our age group?
Posted:

..... I have met men and women that no longer desire affection nor do they give affection. Sex is a different story but the affection that we showed whenever we were younger is gone. What happened to it?
.... He told me he doesn't desire affection. He doesn't mind giving me some affection but that closeness to another human being mystifies him. And he doesn't desire to touch, caress or hold another of the opposite sex very often. And he doesn't need that holding, caressing, or touching. I have heard this from others my age.
How does affection work or tell me how it doesn't work for you? And what part does sex and affection play into for you. And if you use to have it in the younger years and lost it why?
Blue eyes: I think this man is just one man, and he doesn't represent all men in our age group. My experience is of men telling me pretty much the opposite. That that they miss being held, the closeness with a woman, even more than they miss sex. You just need to find another man.
I don't know so much about other women. All of my RL friends are married and have been forever. I know one woman, late 40's, who is single and dates, and she says she is fine without a close relationship and is okay with sex just for sex, but I think, given the choice, she'd prefer a close emotional relationship. Those I meet online also want a close emotional relationship, as do I.
So, I don't think it is so prevalent that people don't want to be close to and affectionate with someone. For me, sex, affection, emotional closeness, all go together; I'm not interested in one without the other.

I have zero experience with older men.

Having been married to two younger men I have to disagree here.. They are in fact very attentive lovers. They are well versed in the mechanics of a woman.. That is not to say older men cannot be just as good!!! However I would be somewhat concerned if he had issues about his performance..Would tell me something about his confidence level and how that might well translate out overall
I agree with this. Older men like to make this blanket statement that because they are older, they are better lovers. Early 50's is the age of the oldest man I've been with; he was definitely not the best. It has to do with the man, not with his age. It also has to do with sexual compatibility. Just because you are older, does not mean you are better. And, I am not saying the same reasoning doesn't apply to older women as well.

....don't look for other singles when I'm there - I go to enjoy the show.
Exactly. It may not be as much fun as when one is with a friend or boyfriend, but, for me, I'd rather be on my own than just be with anyone. Worse than being on my own is spending hours with someone whose company I don't enjoy. If women are still afraid of going out alone because of how it looks, if anyone is, then you are letting other people control your behavior, and you are limiting your life experience.

Europe has reconized this but the US way behind on this issue .
Absolutely correct. Working in Europe, I know that mobbing, in schools and in the workplace, is something recognized and dealt with.

Dad or Jail?

the kid got the exact same punishment that anyone else would have.
...parents who refuse to visit with their children don't get hauled off to jail.
She's right. Non-custodial parents don't get sent to jail for not spending time with their children. How often do kids sit around waiting for a non-custodial parent to show up for a visit, only to wait in vain? The parent is not sent to jail for that neglect and disappointment. Excellent point, ooobaby.

Female Athletes

First, Chris Everett was very feminine looking. But, in general, in the past, female athletes did not look too feminime. I think it's because in 'the olden days,' we, as a culture, considered female athletes to be 'tom boys' and men didn't find them appealing. That is no longer true, and they are now are just being what they naturally are--beautiful girls: healthy, physically fit, strong, etc.

It is perceived so much differently when a woman is out alone.
Maybe going to a bar. Any other situation, I can't imagine what the problem would be. Maybe I didn't get the memo.

I like to see plays and opera. Most of my friends do not so i go alone by myself. to me it does not look strange till yesterday when someone told me that it looks wierd for a woman to be by herself at theatre and opera thought??
Do not worry what other people think.
Do not let small minded fools influence what you do. You are the only one who has to live your life. Would you actually stay home and not do what you enjoy doing because some people think it "looks wierd for a woman to be by herself at the theatre or opera"? In December I'm going to Egypt for 3 weeks. By myself. Do you think I give a flying fvck if anyone in the world thinks it looks wierd for me to travel alone? Live your life for you; ignore the idiots.
...going to things you enjoy alone opens up the opportunity for social adventures (or misadventures) that otherwise wouldn't be there.
True, true. Social adventures, any adventures.

Mean Girls

I think Sugarland sings this song....mean girls.
"Mean Girls"
(Ready, OK)
Mean girls
Well, I ain't a mean girl
But I've known a few
They'll make you cry, baby
And then blame it on you
They'll hate you if you're pretty
They'll hate you if you're not
They'll hate you for what you lack, baby
Then they'll hate you for what you've got
Mean girls, scratchin' and spitting
Mean girls, can't be forgiven
Mean girls, make mean women
Mean girls
It starts on the playground pulling your hair
Then in high school it gets worse from there
You'll see em coming, they travel in packs
Smile to your face, baby, while stabbing your back
If they ain't out a-prowling, creeping down the hall
You'll find em by the lockers, baby
Sharpening their claws
Mean girls, start em young
Mean girls, forked tongue
Mean girls, see em and run
Mean girls
Mean girls
Sugar and spice and everything nice
Thinks she hot but she's cold as ice
First comes love then comes marriage
Then comes her Mama with another little wannabe
Mean girls, full of hate
Mean girls, just can't wait
Mean girls, to take your date
Mean girls, make stuff up
Mean girls, just bad luck
Mean girls, stink
Mean girls, best friends forever
Mean girls, almost never
Mean girls, whatever
Mean girls
Hey, mean girls"Mean Girls"
