Social Anxiety
Posted: 5/2/2009 9:58:14 PM
I'm another one of those people that feels a bit out of place at times. Still haven't managed to go to a POF event, even though there were some nearby. I just can't bring myself to show up at an event. I don't drive, so getting around on transit isn't always the greatest, especially when it's late.

Need a New Holiday
Posted: 2/2/2008 6:43:21 PM
It all sounds good, but for those of us that work in retail, it doesn't matter, all the stores are open anyway. Sure, we'll get a day off, but it will be later in the week, when everyone else is back at work, and school.
Family day would be nice, but only if all stores would be closed, so family can spend time together (and not at the mall shopping).

Tracy Latimer... was her father right or wrong? why?
Posted: 12/7/2007 1:23:10 AM
He did what he thought was best for her, and while most people would disagree, they need to be in his shoes. Caring for someone 24/7, is not easy. I was taking care of my Dad, (dying of cancer), he was in so much pain towards the end. It hurt me to see him that way.
For a parent to see their child in such a bad way, I can't imagine.

So, he was denied bail? Go figure, it's not like he would do this again.
But it's ok to let out sex offenders, and warn us that they are out, and living in are community.
That makes sense..........

Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date
Posted: 9/18/2007 6:38:26 PM
Recently went to Dublins Crossing, an Irish pub out in Langley. The inside is very nice, not what you would expect from the outside, (it's in a newly built strip mall). There are 2 floors, (the 2nd floor was closed while we were there, I guess they open it for the evening), lots of woodwork. It feels like an old pub. The food was very good, menu has lots to choose from. Would be a nice place to go for a casual dinner.

SAME NAME
Posted: 8/26/2007 6:27:13 PM
Same first name, slightly different last name (hers had one extra letter), in the doctors office, they kept pulling her file when I came in, (mine was next), my Dr. was confused at first, because she looked at the file, and knew that I had never had a child or liposuction.
I laughed, and told her that if I did, I don't remember, and that the lipo didn't work !

Why cant people just tell the truth
Posted: 8/23/2007 12:22:25 AM
I guess some people are scared to tell the truth, they don't want to hurt you. For me, I want to be told. It may not be nice, and it may hurt. It's the not knowing, and the "was it something I did, or was it something I said" that has a way of hurting more. Get together, talk about it, then move on.

Here is a recipe for the mint ones which is pretty good,

1 - 12 ounce package mint chocolate chips, (like Andes Mint Bits)
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
Ritz crackers or anything similiar

Melt chocolate in the microwave, dip the crackers in the chocolate, then place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper, chill till set.

Mexican vacation yes or no?
Posted: 1/14/2007 11:48:01 PM
I would have to say 'no'. I have been there, and was thinking about going again, to Acapulco. Last time, I was on a cruise and we stopped there for a day. At the time I thought that it would be nice to spend a week there, as there was so much to see.
As tourists, we only see the 'better areas', while vacationing, we don't (or rarely) see the 'other' side. The outskirts, where many are just trying to survive. Looking for a way out, many have turned to gangs and crime, which is common in many areas.
As a tourist, we need to carefully choose where we go on vacation.
There are lots of places that I would like to visit, but I need to think about my safety.

home made bread

I like to mix the dough in the bread machine, ( for me that's where I sometimes had problems) then finish it in the oven, that way I have a loaf that looks more like the ones you find in artisan bakeries, shaped by hand.

So....Who else is stuck working Xmas???
Posted: 12/3/2006 11:07:59 PM
Will try to get the closing shift for Christmas Eve (open until 6:00), however, I will try to get boxing day off. That has to be the worst day when you work in retail Running out of advertised items, because some people just need at least a dozen of the same thing. Customers thinking 'everything' is half price. Then there are the countless price-checks, funny how labels with the bar codes 'fall off', or the 'packaging' dissapears when they wait in line. Takes 3-4 days to clean up the store, then there are all those 'empty' packages, to write up.......
Boxing day I'd rather be after all, better to wait for the sales in January.

Consumers make me laugh
Posted: 10/7/2006 1:20:39 AM
I also work in retail, and sometimes in the lunchroom we share stories about customers. It sure makes it entertaining, and a co-worker once suggested that we should write a book. I try not to laugh, when the customer needs an item. For example, they need a set of sheets, but don't know the size of bed they sleep on. They need curtains, but didn't think that they had to measure the window. It's when they ask me if it will fit, how would I know? I've never been to your place.

Best and worst airlines in Canada and worldwide.
Posted: 9/30/2006 9:38:55 PM
Just flew on Air Pacific, to Honolulu, was ok. We were delayed here in Vancouver for an hour, problem with the washrooms, good thing they fixed it, choices for dinner was 'lamb curry' & 'fish'. Our flight back to Vancouver, over half the plane was empty, so, lots of room.

Best airline; Harmony

Worst; Air Transat

German potato salad
Posted: 8/15/2006 1:27:59 AM
Here's one from my mom, always a favourite. Since my mom does not have a sweet tooth, this has no sugar in it, (and no miracle whip) like some potato salads. Mearsurements are approximate, as we had to figure it out. My mom always makes this without measuring, she just goes by taste.

6 medium sized potatoes, ( Yukon Gold)
3 - 4 Tbsp. mayonaise
1/4 lb (approx) chopped sausage, like garlic ring, Kielbassa, or Polish
1 large dill pickle, chopped
2 Tbsp. warm water
1 Tbsp. vinegar
salt & pepper to taste
2 boiled eggs, chopped

Cook potatoes; let cool completely. (this can be done the day before).
Peel then slice potatoes, add remaining ingredients, mix gently.
Let stand about 1/2 hour in fridge before serving. A few sprigs of parsley on top for garnish.

* instead of mixing in the chopped egg, they can also be sliced, placed on top as a garnish, sprinkled with a little chopped parsley.

Posted: 8/6/2006 11:57:04 PM
Was in a car accident when I was 10, have some scars on my face, and a couple on one leg. That was a long time ago and I have since learned to live with it. You really have to look to see them. It's when a guy can look past these scars, to see the person inside, that's what matters.

How messed up our these PEOPLE???
Posted: 8/6/2006 7:25:29 PM
Some kids lack discipline and respect. Some parents don't know how to parent. Some kids think that it's cool to carry around weapons, act tough, after all, what music do they listen to? What movies do they watch? What games do they play on playstation or x-box? It's not real, yet they want to live it. Street racing, drive-by shootings, jump on some other kid at random. They may think it's fun, but it has hurt people, and many families. Catch these kids, and show them how it feels.
