Stuffing Your Turkey

OP
I remember my aunt stuffing the bird with oyster stuffing as well as cooking it seperate but never saw my Mom stuff a bird with anything but a stick of daddy's butter(we weren't allowed to eat his butter) oranges cut in half, some celery sticks, some onions and garlic she put some grass in it and always thought that was weird till I grew up enough to realize it was thyme, sage and rosemary ..hahahaaha... she always rubbed the big bird with a stick of butter to. then she would put it in the oven and let it cook what seemed like forever then she would pull it out cover the top with aluminum foil stick it back in the oven again for what seemed forever then about 1 pm she would have everything done and we ate.
However now I know about how long it cooks and what all she did..
But as for me I stuff mine with the oranges, butter, onions, garlic, and (the grass) lol and I rub mine with canola oil season with pepper, salt, and a touch of red pepper(cayenne)
I start mine around 6 am, I prep it the night before so it sits in fridge ready to go at 6 am
and for the last 7yrs or so mine has always been so tender and tasty and mmmmmmmmm goood

A suggestion for a couple like us?

thru out my lifetime I have found that Crisco oil and silk sheets
do not tend to mix well
one might find it is rather a sticky situation
:)
Now on the other hand if you take One Large bottle of alcohol
say tequila or jack
one medium sized room
silk sheets -preferably King size
something sweet to nibble on -should the parties involved get hungry
prep and cook time
can lead to several hours
of an intense, delicious ,happy outcome

My first question would be what do you like?well both of you? :)
mexican? I talian? american? southern? asian?
also what do you plan to drink, can also depend on what you might want to fix
well at least by some people :)
do you want to grill ? cook together in the kitchen? or do you want to prepare for her as a surprise? Or Is she the kind that prefers to relax and let you do everything?
So I guess before I could assist with a menu "easy of course" those would be some questions I would want to know in order to best help you.

Dove
Have you ever tried doing the above with condensed milk instead of the sugar and corn syrup and then instead of making balls make a log and roll in crumbled almost fine crumbled wafers and freeze for 2 to 3 hrs then slice and eat?
and I LOVE the idea of making those Tequila cookies I was thinking tho that coconut rum goes down smoothly and taste ohhhhhhhhhhh so good.

Creamy, spoken like a true American... why get involved in anything that's not aimed directly at us... I mean no reason to stand up for abused animals, abused women and children or anything else thats wrong in society right?
not quite the same in my opinion, but I do see the reasoning behind your comment..
I also agree that people do not need to be treated like a dog or trained as them either.
a lot of people in this world desire to live a lifestyle that includes this train of thought that this nurse seems to infected with ..
and when someone has these type of opinions as she does .. I have no respect for them either ..I just don't go out of my way to personally(sp) take after them if I was not the target...that's just me.
I can express myself when I feel the need to..
isn't the old saying" pick your battles"??

[ quote ]But let a woman say that and you quickly learn that only the greatest of women will stand up and say something and there are very, very, very few great women.
To those of you who had the integrity and fortitude, you get my to the rest of you.... well your true colors have been displayed yet again!
so very true about the man being exiled...
but as for me.. it didn't seem to be my fight
seemed to me that nurse has a vendetta out for Boca .
and Boca took care of the situation and set the nurse straight
since then seems quite a few have addressed nurse and set her straight..
so I am guessing " My true colors " have been displayed also..
I am not one who gets involved too much.Unless provoked or feel a great need.

Take time relax and as I said in the above post enjoy yourself, enjoy life. it takes awhile after a rough divorce to start over and sometimes you can be good friends with an ex and then sometimes it is better to have nothing to do with them unless you just have too
and remember Forgiveness is the beginning to healing .

Flbiker in your profile you state......
"As the ABBA song goes; Take a Chance on Me. I am safe and normal if there is such a thing. Someone once told me Normal was a setting on the dishwasher! I have seen a lot of ads on dating sites where people (both men and women) say "no baggage". Well, here's a news flash; EVERYONE has baggage! The key is how they deal with it. I like to think that I deal with mine in a way that wouldn't pose problems in a relationship. life has taught me the hard way that no one can fully understand what another person is dealing with. They might empathize, might be in a similar situation, but when all is said and done, only the individual knows what is right for themselves. Life is much too short to waste time judging others. Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, if you are interested, please drop me a line and we'll talk more...................................................................................................."
So Listen to your self,Take your own words and learn from them enjoy life .you are safe and normal :) so take a ride, clear your head, see the sites and since you were in the Mili you have probably seen many places so take a moment stop smell the roses, the fields, the smells that are good (haha be sure you don't inhale the bad odors ) LOL
When I turned 50 I realized I was grown enough to actually start enjoying my life, My Boys are grown enough to take care of themselves so I owe it to me now. Be patient and your fishie will come your way ..

contradiction ...I don't believe so.....that is my dating preference to not have a man that smokes ,.. because I do not smoke so therefor I do not want to be with someone who does ..
that's my personal preference same as for someone that just wants a sexual encounter I am not nor do I ever want to be a one night stand.... but I can be a friend to someone who smokes I may not like their habit but that in noway means they could not be a specially good friend
and as to apologizing that's just me I hate to be offensive but I do believe in honesty..
that's why when there is no picture to a profile I wonder about that person,lol..but thats another forum haha

you are entitled to your opinion as well as all the rest of us on this site.
and so as with that, to me your opinion is just based on how you perceive the way people should be to fit "your" purpose .. the way I see it and again I do not mean to offend.. just stating my opinion... if you were against alcohol then those that drank either socially or a few times or all the time means you would state that is the reason why they can not get dates or emails .. and the same with any other type habit or as you pointed out... the "significantly overweight" I have enjoyed my share of emailing and dating and meeting men from this site ... I myself have decided to enjoy the forums and not see anyone at this time in my life.. and yet I still receive emails..so in my opinion if someone does not meet "your standards" then that is the reason why ...
As you said .........
"and no, i don't judge. the reality of the situation is that it wouldn't matter who he was, what he had, or what he looked like. on a site like this, cigarette smokers are near the bottom of the pile of desirability. below that would be those that admit to doing drugs. above both of those would be single parents with babies or young kids. hovering around that would be significantly overweight people. you can then throw minorities in the mix too. there's other levels on that totem pole but those are just SOME examples.
and to all this I feel for people who are wanting to find someone and yet thru all there searching they find themselves lonely still
I again apologize if I offend anyone or especially you but we are all opinionated and thats why we are in a forum type setting.

I am thinking the reason is because with a long term they would have to spend no more time in a search mode but I agree that someone should truly become a friend first because if you really think about it We really never meet strangers

In response to msg.6...
it's pretty simple really. you smoke cigarettes. that's gonna put you below anyone else automatically.
How can you say that is his reason why without really knowing the young man.
the way he lives, who he feels himself to be,have you ever conversed with him? met any of his friends? spent time with him to know what kind of person he is?
I am sorry if I offend or step on anyone's toe's it just seemed to me in reading your response you seemed judgmental because of his desire to be a smoker than a person/young man who wishes for a woman who would show him some attention.
as with most people "we" tend to look at the outside/"the book cover"and not the person
a lot of people get judged by looks, actions ,habits, and many other things
maybe if "we" as people got to know someone first "we"could stop being so judgmental.

Sweet potatoes and ????????
Posted:
9/30/2009 11:14:50 PM
I like to watch food network cooking shows and on grill it with BF
he did a sweet potato salad, looked totally delicious.. I think I would have left off the green onions but.... so here is the list and directions
Ingredients
* 4 large sweet potatoes, do not peel
* 4 scallion, used both parts, green and white
* 1/2 cup canola oil
* Salt and freshly ground black pepper
* 1/4 cup cider vinegar
* 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
* 1 heaping tablespoon Dijon mustard
* 2 teaspoons honey
* 1/2 cup olive oil
* 1/4 cup fresh flat leaf parsley, coarsely chopped
* Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Place potatoes in a large saucepan, cover by an inch with cold water, add 1 tablespoon of salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Cook until just cooked through but not soft, about 40 minutes depending on the size. When cool enough to handle, slice crosswise into 1/2-inch thick slices. Must be fork tender!
Preheat grill to high. Brush potatoes on both sides with canola oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill until lightly golden brown on both sides and just cooked through, about 1 1/2 minutes per side. Remove to a bowl. Brush green onions with the remaining canola oil and grill until slightly charred and softened, about 4 minutes. Remove and thinly slice. Add to the potatoes.
Whisk together the vinegars, mustard and honey in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Slowly whisk in the olive oil until emulsified and taste for seasoning. Pour the dressing over the potatoes, add the parsley and gently toss to combine. Can be served warm or allowed to cool overnight.
Sounds like this would go with anything ...

Is nudism a turn off for women?
Posted:

I have read these post and at one time thought of saying something but ... ok so now many things have been brought up and I have to add my little >.02 cents in ....
I think and remember this is just my opinion... :)
We as people have faults, failures, insecurities, ideas, desires, quirks, preferences,as well as many more descriptions...BUT... should we tell all just as we are in the process of getting to know one another or.. should that be kept until there appears to be a commitment of sorts.. relationships are very hard to work thru and "baring all" :)to start might end things to start ...also some things in our lives should be kept quiet and reserve till you feel you have found the mr right or mrs right...
reminds me of this tv show called "Dating in the Dark" these people meet as a group then they meet individually to see who they might be compatible with then they have a few one on one dates with the ""hopeful one"'.. then they get to see one another in the light and then choose do they want to get to know this person more in depth or are they shallow and go only by looks ... the thing is these people connect on a level based soley (SP)on personality ,charm, wit, voice, they touch each others faces, bodies, some kiss, some have such a connection that it goes to show that it is or should be the person within that makes who they are and not their looks but... once they see each other they sometimes cant get over what the person looks like,or their height, their size, so instead of taking a chance on the connection they felt ... they fall prey to the "their just not physically attracted to them
......................................................................................................................................
so again I feel that unless you are ready to make a huge relationship type commitment your really personal feelings and way of life should come as a later topic .. but again this is just me and my opinion...
thanks for allowing me to express

Michael.. Thank you
I have not been scared away but would most considerably like doing the mild intracoastal water ways and docking for months at a time , I said once before I feel I am in love with the idea ... because I have always loved the water being in it, around it, or even on it. I learned how to swim when I was 3 My Mom used to tell me I was a like a fish in water .. I remember being at the lake in march swimming and sun bathing and if you have been in Fla very long you know it can be on the cool side in march... we would go to New Smyrna Beach many times during the summer My Brothers both owned boats and one of my brothers had a 22ft or 26ft (cant remember)sail boat and he was teaching me the ways of sailing when I could get away .. sadly he passed away in 03 since then I lost the dream of boating.. until recently...My boys are college age and wont be living at home anymore so the desire to return to the water ,boats and the dream have been creeping back in :) I watch the travel channel often and like the shows about cruising or the super houseboats and super yachts,
nothing like dreaming BIG hahahahaa
I have always loved to travel just never felt the time was right,.. now my boys are grown I am divorced and half a century old so I think I am getting to that stage where I want to see the beauty of this country...
I like the idea of not always "peachy and creamy..."hahahahahaaha no pun intended eh!
Again thank you ever so much for your words of wisdom thank you
as long as you dont mind
thank you
if you do erase the hug hahahahahaah

Michael ... WOW
I laugh at your words because I would be one of those following like a duck...:)
You have brought into light so very many reality checks that I would have never even thought of so I guess I better keep my sea legs on land and maybe try the life of RV'ing
or better yet just lay claim to the cruise every so many months.. and accept that ... I Shirley ....will not be living on a houseboat unless it merely goes nowhere or I find a wealthy older /younger man that knows how to traverse the seas and takes me with them LOL and hope they value my life as much as I value Mine... thanks for the wise words

I still plan on someday doing this houseboat living
now that I am in fla it seems like a really good possibility
I have been checking on a lot of sites for used boats
and I have even thought of getting something that needs repairs and
getting a "repairs for dummys book" and doing them myself slowly and methodically
meanwhile back on the reality of land .. learning more and more about water travel and boating safety and what NOT to do hahaha I do so look forward to exploring these new ideas
I truly believe I fell in love with houseboat living when I would watch the "Tammy" movies and the movie with Cary Grant and Sophia Lauren..Houseboat...
maybe I should try and start another thread about what got you started with your desire ...

Cast IRon Skillets
Posted:
7/26/2009 9:23:46 PM
Well even tho this is kinda late here goes........
I have a question about cast iron and hope someone can help me. I bought a Lodge pre-seasoned cast iron skillet. On the second use, I was frying some eggs and noticed a little black color on them. Is this normal? I have heard that cast iron adds iron to your foods but does it dye them too?
Hi RD
to answer your question that seems to have gone over every ones head/eyes lol are you useing metal spatulas or metal of any kind when cooking? sometimes the iron grit will come off in the food if you do also sometimes the iron grit will come off if they havent been seasoned or if they have had something acidic like tomato
I wash my cast iron in hot sudsy water I rinse in warm water dry and rub with bacon grease or canola oil and the let them sit inside my oven I dont always turn the oven on for them to dry out and soak in the oil but I dont have any probs with them either and the pans I have were handed down from 3 generations .. I lost one griddle awhile back when my son was showing me how he could twist the pan(spinning it) it dropped and cracked I cooked on it till it finally cracked all the way and was unusable
I also had one that we used when we went camping it had a 3 ft cast iron handle and the bowl part itself was 2 ft in diameter
and was about 4 in deep .. I remember times when Mama would cook 2 or 3 lbs bacon and sausage then wipe it out and cook 2 doz eggs with cheese then wipe it out and add 2 or 3 sticks of butter and put bread on the melted butter to make toast
?Good eats " as Alton Brown would say ..
Well I hoped I helped in some small way of answering your quest.

North/South Carolina anyone?
Posted:

Jaxi...
well I for one adore North Carolina ,you have within a days drive
(which I say is an 8 hr drive or less)
you have the Mountains, you have the beaches, you have several amusement parks, awesome eateries, and History, wildlife, parks, museums, thats just to name a few things in NC..
The beaches are great in Nc just depends on where you go and what you want when you get there some of the outer banks even have where you can camp on some of the islands.. I suggest Bear Island just outside Swansborough(sp) you have also Historic Bath(home of I believe Blackbeard the pirate)you have farming communities lots and lots of tobacco fields as well as corn, cotton, soy and other crops.
then in beautiful historic Wilmington you have every April the Azalia festival you also have the Battleship, so much of NC as well as SC is full of History, beautiful places, nice people, and remember you have all seasons in both states and you can drive to many many places with a day to explore ..
I would have wrote and shared with you personally but I was too old for your emails :)
best wishes and I am sure you will enjoy either state

simple quick recipes for college students
Posted:
6/9/2009 7:51:01 AM
Hi everyone .. My son is away at college and I was trying to search for anything on the threads that involved college students and cooking.I didnt find anything.
He calls me and ask for simple ways to cook that can feed him and his 2 roomies for a few days , I told him crock pot recipes are best they can put the food in that morning or the night before and have it for a few days depending on how much they eat, also on the food network channel Emeril had a show on about college students cooking and saving money
with low cut meats and veggies, beans, My question is... does anyone have any ides of what college students can cook that is not expensive,is on the easy side ,and doesnt take long..
If you can help I would appreciate the assistance..

there was a show on tv the other day about "fantastic Houseboats" it was very interesting this billionaire had one that was right at 100 ft long and he mainly stays in ky and tn lakes and rivers the vessel was amazing the one I really liked tho was the 37 ft one it was simple and it was for people to rent on an overnight or weekend excursion in cumberland gap lake
however they never showed the inside of it... But was a very interesting show

I don't think it should be awkward at all if you converse with someone on here or another site and you both feel comfortable with each other then meeting should (I think) just be like iceing on the cake, give you a closer bond, and who knows what else could become of the meeting.. so I think it would be great for all parties involved.

good ole Donny and Marie ..he was a little bit rock an roll and she was a little bit country
I enjoyed hee haw but to date ole country shows I remember watching the porter show where dolly got her start and the grand ole opry with minnie pearl and grandpa jones
and I admit I am 50 hahahahahahaha but
when we were in the 5th grade we didnt study half the stuff these children study today
like my boys in high school I could never help them with the math they we learning cause I barely understood the regular stuff much less the trig and calculus that my boys took
Moving down here to central fla they have a channel that shows a lot of the old shows I grew up watching and they have this cool channel called retro I am adjusting to the heat wow never thought I would have outgrown enduring the heat but guess not having been in it like this sets ya back I sweat worse than a pig hahahahaha

Hi Mac
wow thanks for sharing your info I am planning once my youngest goes away to college
to do a more serious look into living on the water
like how much to either own or rent the boat the amount of gas one would need the upkeep of engines and such docking fees (I guess most places would have them) I think I fell in love with the idea way back with the tammy tell me true movies and then when the show Macgyver lived on his houseboat just made me think of it more and now that I am 50 I figure it is about that time to seriously look into it..
any suggestions of websites to search I have googled this idea a lot
look forward to hearing of your tourism days :)

wow I adore this thread
old shows... I too would rush from the bus stop get home in time to watch "Dark Shadows"
Henry Darrow was so gorgeous as Barnabus Collins.. He could bite me anytime hahahaha
one of my many faves , was " The Monkees" "American Bandstand" "Eddies father" "and the one about the Martian ,I cant seem to think of the name right now and "High Chapparel"which also had Henry Darrow as "Montiletto" mmmm he was delicious looking for sure as well as "Blue"
love fond memories.. " the Red Skelton Show" and "The Carol Burnet Show"
as to todays shows .. CSI, Burn Notice, Psych, animal planet and food network, oh yeah and when hgtv has the shows about the next design star
For comedic shows I really like "who's line is it anyway"

Hi ladysd
I would love to live on a lake, calm waters, fish, swimming, and because most lakes
well I think most lakes hahaha are somehow someway attached to a river system or another body of water but then I have never been further west than Boulder Co. but if the houseboat were on a lake that didn't seem to go anywhere ...Yes that would be somewhat disappointing
imagine the price one would have to pay for it to be moved to a waterway that you could go places on/in

... I am glad too know you could swim
but I have to ask what is a chinese junk ??
3 and a half yrs.. that is quite some time to realize you were not good at being a sailor...
Now my first thought is those boats they show on tv where people sell from
there crafts or if you are a good ole fashioned movie buff
the movie that robert young and shirley temple played in when she was an orphan from china ... those are the kind of boats I first think about when you say" chinese junk...

A Yacht?? thats even more interesting ..:) on a yacht you can go out into the oceans but with a houseboat I think you have to stay in like rivers and stuff I cant imagine a houseboat on the high seas :) would enjoy writing and hearing your exploits and travels if you would like to share.

Need Advise/Help

ok first off
if he is/was " MR PERFECT" then most likely he still is ...
give him the time to reflect ,be his friend, not just a lover ...
give him support ,let him know you understand about the seriousness
the 2 of you have with your relationship and try...try to be patient for him
ask him if he might have an idea of how long he needs to get in touch with his
inner peace and find his heart and what he is actually seeking...
If he tells you I don't know then suggest to him that you will be patiently waiting
but you ask he not take more than 2 months ................
or however many months you are willing to wait............
If he needs you as a friend then be that too him
if the closeness you both had was mere sexual ... then by all means he isnt the one
you need trust and communication to keep a relationship going
I wish you the best and this is my take on what I have read............
