I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!!
Posted: 7/24/2006 7:22:32 PM
I had a great time and would like to thank Kris and everyone involved. I can only imagine all the work that went into organizing this. I met a lot of very nice people, young and older, male and female. I did not tick yes for guys who lived far away but I was sure wishing some of you lived closer to me. There were a few in my local area who caught my eye some of whom I didn't get a chance to talk to. I left to get a bite to eat with every intention of returning, but found myself driving home instead. I am kind of sorry I didn't return for the after party. Hopefully I will be matched up with a few that I had the opportunity to speak with during the speed dating.

Hey Red
Had a great time with you and the other ladies last night. My cheeks hurt from laughing so much. Sorry you had to leave early.

What's this? 1:51 and I'm the first one posting? I had a great time and met some really wonderful people. I think I made some friends, and I hope to see them again soon. Thank you for all the hard work in putting this together. I haven't laughed so hard in a very long time. I can't wait for the next party.

Pain
Posted: 3/23/2006 1:07:06 PM
I've been there. You have to face it head on if you want the healing to begin. There come's a time when you have to decide that it is time to pick yourself up and start living again. If you are not capable of that, then you have to consider looking outward for help. Just talking about it can be a beginning. I've made my peace and learned to live quite a happy life, but it can still come out of left field and knock me down sometimes. If you love deeply, you can also be hurt deeply. But I prefer that to a life devoid of love.

I got a phone call like that once. I did an online search and it turned out to be a scam where they were trying to sell time share vacations. There were all kinds of complaints. Just be careful.

Puppy Love???

I have had both cats and dogs. I love them both, but if forced to choose it would have to be dogs. Cats are just too independant. I guess I like being needed.

who is your support?
Posted: 3/14/2006 2:10:48 PM
I thought it was my friend but I learned differently just before Christmas. I had to go to the hospital for some day surgery, and my friend dropped me off at the front door and said she would send her husband back later to take me home. LOL. I kind of expected her to come in and sit with me while I waited.

Roy 00012: I've already packed on a few extra pounds over the winter. Spring is usually my time to work it off. I'll just have to be more disciplined. And,maybe instead of charging him room and board, I will put him in charge of buying groceries. That's a job I wouldn't really miss.

what would you say is the greatest sit-com ever?
Posted: 3/13/2006 12:42:26 PM
Seinfeld is my all time favourite. I can still usually come up with a Seinfeld episode or one liner to fit some situations I find myself in.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in a new sitcom starting this week. It will be interesting to see if she can break the Seinfeld curse and be successful.

From my childhood - Bewitched.
Now- I like Two and a Half Men, Corner Gas, Will and Grace.

Timmins night

Have a party there this summer and I'll be there too. My Mom grew up there, and I have a lot of family still living there. I'm always amazed at how many people have a connection to Timmins.

Have to wrap the ketchup in a serviette at a restaurant. Can't help it - I keep thinking of all the people who lick their fingers and then use the ketchup.

Faith in God shaken by bad things?

You don't really have faith in God if it depends on how well your life is going.
Just my opinion.

strike
Posted: 3/7/2006 4:23:03 PM
Although I'm not happy about this strike, the timing couldn't be better for my daughter. She came home from school on Sunday feeling quite ill and it turns out she has pneumonia. She is much too sick to go to classes. I'm glad she is able to stay home and recuperate.
She is actually hoping they will not settle too quickly because her college won the provincial basketball championships. She is on the team and leaves next week for Lethbridge to play in the Nationals. That is where she and I part ways. In my mind school is more important, but in hers basketball is. And she is going even if she has not fully recovered from her pneumonia.
So, selfishly, this strike is working out in her favour.

Hey Mr. you've got bad breath!
Posted: 3/6/2006 8:22:42 PM
There can be medical causes such as certain lung diseases, liver diseases, problems with tonsils but it is often from poor oral hygeine. Dry mouth can cause problems too (that is why morning breath can be so bad). And of course, certain foods and smoking can give us bad breath as well.

I work for a dental office, so maybe I should start carrying business cards on me to hand out in those situations. One way to drum up business. Although I would need to date a lot more than I have been for it to be lucrative.

Any suggestions on migraine remedies?
Posted: 3/6/2006 2:33:15 PM
I'm going to try the massager for my daughter. She plays college basketball and there is a long list of restricted drugs that she is not allowed to take. The gelcaps were the only thing that worked for her, but now all she can take is Motrin.

A Robot Who washes the Floor???
Posted: 3/6/2006 2:20:29 PM
Nothing to do with being a lazy ass. I still do a thorough vacuuming every week and wash the floors. But this Roomba is very convenient to run between vacuumings. I don't just plunk my ass on the couch and watch tv while it's running. Wouldn't be able to hear the tv anyway.

I bought the Roomba vacuum cleaner last week. It was on sale at Canadian Tire. It's pretty cool to watch. I does my living/dining room, bedroom, kitchen and hallway in 1 1/2 hours. It has a sensor so it knows to turn away from the stairs. The dog barks at it, but he won't go anywhere near it. He's terrified. I'm a little worried because I read online that they break down frequently.
So I was glad to see Sweettalkingwoman bought hers a year ago.

People who can't hold a conversation
Posted: 2/28/2006 5:37:55 PM
I have run into the same thing. It bothered me enough that I edited my profile asking that anyone interested in emailing me has to carry their end of the conversation. I must say that the medium might be part of the problem. Some people are better talkers than writers, and others may not be proficient on a keyboard. I try to take that into consideration.

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone
Posted: 2/28/2006 2:31:55 PM
Enrolling in a bereavement group last year - huge for me because I don't open up unless I know people really well.
Laying laminate flooring, installing 2 tub surrounds, sanding and refinishing wood kitchen cabinets prior to selling my house.
Buying a new house (and leaving the house I had lived in for 24 years).
Driving to Florida by myself.
Next on the list - attend a POF get together.

Adult kids living with you

Timely topic for me. My son just called and asked if he could move back for 5 or 6 months. He offered to pay room and board, and I had no idea what would be a fair price. So, this gives me a general idea. My food bills are going to skyrocket because he offered to do the cooking and he likes to cook fancy meals learned at some upscale restaurants he worked in out in BC. See, there's an upside to everything. (Not such an upside if I start packing on the pounds though).

Roller Skating at the Terrace nostalgia
Posted: 2/21/2006 7:16:58 PM
I used to go every weekend when I was in Grade 6, 7, and 8. Less regularly in highschool, but that is where I met my first serious boyfriend. Was with him for almost 3 years. Wow, what a great time my girlfriends and I used to have. Oddly enough, I never became a really good skater. Couldn't stop unless I skated toward the boards. Could only skate forward, not backward. And I sure couldn't do that sort of dance skating that I loved to watch so much. My friends and I would wait on the perimeter secretly hoping someone would ask us to join them for the couples skate. And of course we acted like we could care less if we weren't asked. We always had to stop for a drink and hot dog at the food stand and chat it up with whatever boys happened to be around. I don't remember Forbe's Tavern, but I wasn't anywhere near legal drinking age (even with my sister's birth certificate) when I was skating at the forum.

AAAWWW!!! My Mom is dating!
Posted: 2/9/2006 12:36:06 PM
My daughter encouraged me to get out there and start dating. And no, not because I started getting too involved in her life. Sometimes I feel like we reversed roles - she's the Mom and I'm the kid who wants to go out and have fun. I think she was worried about me being alone when she went off to school. My son is not as enthusiastic, but he lives in BC so it's not a factor.

Hey..how widely read are the forums??
Posted: 2/7/2006 5:10:10 PM
I'll bite. This is my first posting. I joined a couple of weeks ago and have looked at some of the forums. I had just decided to start participating in the forums today, and then I read your post. I don't read all of them. Just if the topic catches my interest. If I can't tell what the topic is from the byline, I generally don't check it out..unless the title is so intriguing that my curiosity wins out
