Racer71, you are very misinformed about health care in Canada. Very. I have lived in both places. It is way more expensive for health care in the U.S. You are very wrong about the quality of health care in Canada. My brother happens to be a Gastroenterologist. Canadians are better educated in their Universities. You actually have to have a very high GPA to get admittance into a Canadian University. There are quotas. To get into Sciences, you have to have a minimum of 86%, based on that particular year. Here in the U.S., you can buy a degree with a C average! The quality of education is no comparison to the education in Canada! Here, the majority of students can't pass the state exams! In Edmonton Catholic Schools, 75% of students are above proficiency levels!!!When I left Canada, I was paying $33 for 3 months of health care. University students have free health care & back then, anyone who made under $10,000. Canada takes care of their people. Unlike the U.S. who dump the poor on the streets of L.A. who don't have health care insurance. People here go into major debt if they get really sick. Watch "Sicko" by Michael Moore. I had a health insurance card that I would give to the pharmacist to receive prescription drugs. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CO-PAY in Canada nor do we have to pay to use the Emergency in hospitals. We also can go to ANY doctor & ANY hospital that we choose!! No such thing in the U.S.! You need to check out your facts & research before spewing non-facts about Canada!

Why do people ask about other's ethnicity?
Posted: 11/8/2008 9:16:35 PM
I can't believe how overly wrought people are with race in this country. It's I'm African-American, I'm Chinese- American, I'm this, I'm that! HELLO! We're all from North America. I think it's better to look at all our similiarities rather than our differences. In Canada, you don't hear people saying they're something-Canadian. We all just say "I'm Canadian". I was born in Canada & I'm Canadian! Yet here in the states, people say to me, you have red hair so you're Irish- Canadian. So, if you are born in the U.S., you're simply American. Life can be so simple & NOT so complicated....

I think women are capable of doing this, but not men. Men are far too visual. I myself, cannot learn to love someone. The spark is either there, or it's not.

Forgive? hmm... Forget? NO. I do believe that once a cheater, always a cheater. Once someone disrespects you & crosses that line, I would NEVER be with them EVER again. End of story.

She's just not that into me?
Posted: 12/1/2007 2:40:02 PM
Gees! People are so harsh & judgemental! Just because she wants to take her time getting to know you, doesn't mean she doesn't like you or isn't attracted to you. I would think she is a "quality" woman as she doesn't want to just jump in the sack with you right away. Aren't you glad she's special & not just "a rag on every bush"?! In another words, she's not easy & wanting to get to know "you" for "you". What's wrong with being friends first & then seeing how it goes? Why rush into the intimacy thing right away??!!! If she's not easy with you, then obviously she's not easy with other men as well. As far as I'm concerned: A GOOD CATCH.

Does anyone know of a good mechanic who works on turbo's?
Posted: 7/31/2007 12:38:08 PM
It had several oil leaks. While I was on the freeway, I detected a burning smell, then it went away. Then it was as if I had run out of gas. I pulled over, it stopped & then smoke from underneath the hood. I had it towed home. I put more oil in it, it was bone dry (argh!) & I put water in the radiator. It would not turn over. Is it worth fixing? I've called a few places & they're quoting me $5,000. It's 10 years old.

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSW turbo, all wheel drive. Does anyone know of a good, honest mechanic who works on turbo engines? My oil was low & I think I may have blown my engine. :( Also, does anyone know approximately what that would cost me?Thanks

Ever Been Envious of Happy Couples?
Posted: 7/22/2007 3:27:54 PM
Not envious, happy for them. It gives you hope that you may find someone & be like that too. Wisdom tells me that you don't know what goes on behind closed doors...Couples may "appear" happy in public, but you don't know what goes on at home. I've been one of those-everyone thought we were the "perfect" couple. We weren't!

Got a fake diamond ring from fiance, he lied and said it was a 3 carat, 30,000 dollar ring!
Posted: 7/7/2007 9:04:25 PM
I think the point is being missed here. It doesn't matter whether it was a ring, a rose, a dress, etc. The point is that he has told her white lies before & covered his tracks. He has a pattern of dishonesty. He lied to her & obviously continues to do so. You ask what kind of person does such a thing? Someone who is not only dishonest, but highly insecure as well. Maybe the question should be why does he feel he has to impress her with an expensive ring? I agree that she needs to run for the hills. Especially since she has a 4 year old son to consider. I think that's a ridiculous amount to spend on a ring especially if you don't have that kind of cash, but come on fellas--some girls like their rings, & some guys like their cars, & spend ridiculous amount on that purchase also.....

Great topic! I have had 2 personal experiences with this. Both of the men involved talked "BIG", how they'd do whatever to anyone who was bothering me. Both were ALL talk. When it came to an actual situation, both of them were wimps. A total turn off! I lost total respect for both of them.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?
Posted: 1/6/2007 9:53:34 AM
of course there are good & bad people in every profession. But let's face it: a lot of cops tend to be on power trips; they have a high divorce rate; a lot of the male cops cheat on their wives; they see a lot of the "ugly" in society & have a difficult time letting the job stay at the job & take it home; a lot of them are heavy drinkers & partiers because it's one way to cope with the "ugly"; they tend not to trust humans because of all the nasty people they do come across & tend to be suspicious of even normal, law abiding citizens; some of their minds become twisted from all the garbage they see. Cops & firemen have their "brotherhood" & look out for each other. Eg. They don't give speeding tickets to family.

Where are the men with integrity?
Posted: 11/11/2006 8:45:54 AM
I think there should be a registry out there for all of us to access, that tells us these things about the people we date. You know: whether they're married, separated, etc. Just thing how much time & energy we'd save by knowing ahead of time who all the people are who are inappropriate for us to date........

Gun control...Canada vs USA!!!!!
Posted: 9/16/2006 6:09:49 PM
Why aren't Canadians wanting to have what the U.S. has??? Why not be more patriotic & proud that Canada is the way it is??? Watch the movie "Bowling For Columbine". I'm Canadian, & I live in California. Crime here is rampant. As Canadians, I would be more protective of what you have: space, beauty in nature, safety, universal health care, excellent education, social service agencies for people & gun control. If you check under the United Nations, they list which countries in the world are the best to live in. Canada is always in the top 10 or top 5.

Blondes or Red or brunettes?
Posted: 9/15/2006 6:15:32 AM
I'm a natural redhead. Interesting how it's now "in" to be a redhead. When I was growing up, it wasn't. Being a redhead, yes, I'm fiesty, passionate, bright & atheletic, but I don't have a bad temper. It takes me a lot to make me mad. I've pretty even tempered.

I myself have a weakness for tall, dark hair & handsome....I like brown eyes in a man.

Never had any complaints from any men because I was a redhead....just the opposite, they joined the "in praise of redheads club"!

Favorite Dog Breed?

Why is it your favorite? What do you like best about them? I have a shih-tzu & it's the best dog I've ever owned. I've owned a Boston Terrier (yappy), & a Minature Poodle (high strung). Shih-tzu's are so friendly, they don't shed, they're quiet, rarely bark, easy to house train.

recommend a good dog for kids
Posted: 9/12/2006 10:46:38 PM
I absolutely adore my shih-tzu's, but I would never, ever recommend them for small children. Mine are all 10 lbs. & under. They are quite fragile & young children can easily drop them & accidently break their legs. Age 16 & older & responsible & gentle with them, otherwise, no way. I wouldn't get a dog for a small child at all. Having a dog is a lot of work. People don't realize that. They're expensive & take up a lot of your time. It can be about a 16 year committment for a dog. It's almost like having a kid. Dogs are not disposable!

Fairy Tales vs. Honest Relationships
Posted: 9/10/2006 3:47:48 AM
Also, Mr. Phoenix, as for older women, (& I when I say older, I mean women older than their 20's), why should I settle?? That's why I'm single. I "settled" when I was younger, for someone who wasn't right for me. I didn't have the wisdom & experience to chose the right guy for me. I have worked really hard to be where I am today. I'm educated & I have a successful profession where I am going up the corporate ladder & make a decent living. Why don't I deserve to be with a man on the same page? Someone who is University educated, successful, has job security & is also going up the corporate ladder? Why should I settle? I don't want to support someone, or take care of anyone. I want to be with a mature, secure, confident man who has self evolved & knows who he is & where he's going.I want a comfortable lifestyle. I worked hard for mine & I deserve it. I don't want to waste my precious time with someone who isn't right for me. We all did that in our 20's. Ladies in your 30's & 40's, what are your thoughts & opinions??

Fairy Tales vs. Honest Relationships
Posted: 9/10/2006 3:35:51 AM
Hmmm....interesting. I had a sociology professor once, that told us that, "dating is a bartering chip". She seemed to think that the most beautiful women, end up with the beautiful men. However, she said that if a woman is beautiful, a man can "barter" to have her, if he has lots of money. Meaning, if he's ugly, he can still have her if he's rich. It's just her opinion or theory, but that may explain (& I'm generalizing here, folks), why young, beautiful women get old, rich guys. I think it explains the gold digging theory. A lot of ugly men when they're young, weren't able to attract the beautiful girls, but when they became older & successful, women were then attracted. Or how doctors or other postitions of money & power: actors, professional atheletes, all have trophy wives or girlfriends. Look at Hugh Hefner: he's 80 years old & has 3 playmates living with him. They're in their 20's. Explain that! It would not be appealing for me to have an 80 year old boyfriend!

1. when they wear sunglasses in their profile. Can't see their eyes, what are they hiding?
2. when they don't have a picture in their profile, what are they hiding?
3. when they're "married or separated & looking".
4. when they say their daughter or son is their life.
5. when they have pictures with women in them. What's with that? Trying to show that they're desirable?? What a turn off! Especially when the women are skanky looking!
6. when they have pictures of their "toys": to show off their bikes, boats, etc. All it tells me is they're shallow & materialistic.
7. when the picture on their profile is a sunset, animal or their kids. No one wants to see that you're a great photographer. I want to see a picture of YOU!
8. when their profile is all about women bashing or all about sex & no sincerity or substance.
