How important is critical thinking and open-mindedness?
Posted: 1/14/2013 5:42:34 AM
Science, as a process, doesn't need belief specifically because it is a methodology of testing.
The scientific method (sic) is of course known in detail and to perfection, by the scientists themselves.
At the other hand, they are extremely clumsy when it comes to communication with non scientists.
But also, even scientists (declared and diplomed... ;-) ) are still human beings, and many show moments of weakness when they refuse to review their own "beliefs". It could seem contradictory, but many scientists, at one moment or another, seem to RUST and freeze down in reseach and degrade it to belief.
Fact is, that observing non scientists SEE this. So, it conflicts the polished image around the method of 'true science'.
Very intelligent brain-washer-duty guys (spinn doctors), like from ultra christian sects, use this failure within the scientific world to claim their opposition agains "devil science" is "scientific" in a way as well.
It's good to understand that the High IQ spinn doctors of those organisation, of course, don't believe a single bit of what they construct. It's organised crime to support power greedy religions. (That was a sidenote)
The actual pope of Rome, also is a 100% non believer... it's a multinational manager, spinn doctor master in manipulating his crowd. (He manipulated as well from behind the curtains, the previous pope, who was a dumb true believer. Now, the puppet player is ON Stage"... The Vatican always has had it's hard core of non believing power-driven belief-managers, but most of the time they drop a stupid "marionetta" on the throne.)
Controversial subjects in science always had massive support of wrong hypotheses over a quite long period of time. This is so, because they get mixed up with politics and big money. Most danger for the scientific spirit, always comes from the industrial and political capital side.

How important is critical thinking and open-mindedness?
Posted: 1/14/2013 5:05:51 AM
I wrote years before : Obsessive swarms of people claim "open-mindedness" as beeing open to their 'believings'.
Personal bias is impossible to remove, hence, critical thinking often involves applying societal strictures as well as institutionally learned biases to new theories and ideas.
I was rather pointing at the mechanism of large groups of people who are believers (religions and different believe-addictions) , who really claim the so called "open-mindedness" in exclusive favour towards their organisation's bias.
Once we meet organised (dogmatic) belief, the meaning of being openminded is turned upside down. Those people always try to brainwash their own kids with it. Alas, the majority of the world is hooked up in one or more of such determinanant systems...
Presenting beliefs as truths can be every bit as harmful to intellectual development as lying if your beliefs aren't provably true.
That is the correct statement, I am happy with ! ;-)

Men dont answer messages that are sent to them
Posted: 1/14/2013 4:41:59 AM
... so , the whole thing boils down to the question :
What are your chances for communication on THIS site. This site, not any other one.
By counting : NEAR TO ZERO.
I explained what astonishing differences there are between different sites, in reply rate.
And I concluded that this must be due to the way those sites are structured...

Men dont answer messages that are sent to them
Posted: 1/14/2013 4:32:34 AM
Answer :
Woman don't answer messages that are sent to them.
I DO get a first message from a woman, then and now. I always answer the message at least one time. Alas, ALL (without one exception) of these "woman" are scammers.
This is the WORST site on the WWW when it comes to the fact that it is full of fish, but NO fish is talking ever.
POF is the prototype of the eternal locked archive.
Compared to some of the really extremely stupid, commercial sites like Badoo, Tagged, Twoo etc ... those stupid near-to-zero content sites, at least generate DIALOGUES between members. There, messages are answered, in perhaps at least 20% of cases. Here it's under 1%. Which means, that if you're trying to contact 5 profiles per day (which is quite a job if you read profiles, then writing), this means the chance you got ONE answer after 20 days of writing, is still futile.
BECAUSE the difference is so huge betwee different sites, I can only conclude one thing : there is a massive psycho-structural error in the way this site is build....

Logic.
Posted: 3/5/2010 8:36:38 AM
"Logic" & "weapon". Linked together ?
I disagree.
Logic = a technique of reasoning. Leading from facts to usefull (and reproducable) results.
It can be used to build up (tool) , or it can be used to destroy (weapon).
Believings = another technique of reasoning. Leading from non-facts to irrational mental constructs.
It can AS WELL be used to build up (tool) , or it can be used to destroy (weapon).
In respect of tool versus weapon, it is MORALITY that comes in to be essential.

---- "Critical thought and open-mindedness are at the heart of science." -----
OK, but you have got nothing, if you don't start with the beginning: knowlegde.
(So, scratch believings. Obsessive swarms of people claim "open-mindedness" as beeing open to their 'believings'. )

Geothermal energy...
Posted: 3/5/2010 8:02:11 AM
Geothermal, with pump down, pump up logic, is a rather small scale energy production facility, in ANY case. The amount of transportable heat is a function of the piping diameters. And the piping diameters, are a function of the drilling capacity limits.
Every drilling hole has its price. Every pipe has its pumping unit.
Guess how much space, drilling and buildup you need to get to the size of an average coal power plant.
So, thats why, IF it's used, it is allways small & local.
