Has anyone else found that Zedo.com is running in the background every time you are online? IE or Firefox, either one. Removing the cookie and trying to block it, does not seem to work. It just keeps coming back. In searching the net, it seems that this is a common problem. Any ideas?

Should I keep the wireless router or go wired?
Posted:
8/31/2009 7:37:19 PM
I found one advantage to going wireless though the hard wire option is near. One month ago during a storm, lightning came in through the phone line, and zapped my motherboard, router, and modem all in one flash. $1300 later I am now up and running.
Needless to say, if a storm is in the area I switch from wired to wireless.

Yet another reason why you should not use AVG
Posted:
7/26/2009 11:47:53 AM
I have been running AVG along with SPYBOT on most of my computers for some time now, with no real problem. AVG is updated to 8.5 now. I wonder if some of the previous problems have been resolved?
I have noticed an increase of the "buy now" pop-ups lately. Not too bothersome, for a free program.
If I decide to switch to another program, such as AVAST, what are the correct steps to take in wiping one out to prepare for the installation of a new Ant-vi?
Thanks,

An old carpenters rule is...measure twice, cut once. Internet-wise, it could probably be said......think twice, or maybe three times, then press enter. Nothing posted on the net is private, and it stays posted forever. Knowledge sometimes gives birth to wisdom.

Time after time on this site people ask...how can I change my profile or personal looks to be more attractive to others. If you are happy with the way you present yourself....good. That is who you are. Being yourself, you will attract those who see you, not just for the moment, but as you are.
Much better chance of finding a true match.

Geeks and Hurricanes
Posted:
7/19/2009 3:17:32 PM
Has anyone seen this yet?
Good news, folks. Microsoft founder Bill Gates has turned his attention to controlling the weather.
Five U.S. Patent and Trade Office patent applications, made public on July 9, propose slowing hurricanes by pumping cold, deep-ocean water in their paths from barges. If issued, the patents offer 18 years of legal rights to the idea for Gates and co-inventors, including climate scientist Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution of Washington.
Hurricanes, most famously demonstrated by the deadly intensification of Hurricane Katrina before its landfall in 2005, draw strength from warm waters on the ocean's surface. The patents describe a system for strategically placing turbine-equipped barges in the path of storms to chill sea surfaces with cold water pumped from the depths.
USA TODAY GRAPHIC: Hurricane tracking, science, and history
First requested by Gates and colleagues last year, the patents describe methods "not limited to atmospheric management, weather management, hurricane suppression, hurricane prevention, hurricane intensity modulation, hurricane deflection" to manage storms.
I copied this from a USA Today article. This is just the first few paragraphs.

Netflix movies
Posted:
7/19/2009 12:08:45 PM
I have been a Netflix member almost since they booted up, and when the online movies came along as a part of the deal, I really liked that. One thing bugged me however, and that was that you had to watch through IE
Also the quality was not that good.
Recently though, they have become Firefox compatible
and they now use Microsoft Silverlight to stream through. Since that change, I have noticed a great improvement in the quality of the picture and sound.
Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I am not too worried about compatibility. The specs say 64 with 32bit also. Whether that is true or not, I probably will not find out, as this laptop is just for surfing. I keep all my programs....office....book keeping etc. on other computers. This one sure looks good for movies, and stuff like that.

It has a 6 cell lithium battery, rated 2 hours but only count on 1. This is more of a home based laptop. Heavy too. But loaded. Amd Turion duel core 2,2gz, 4g ram, 320hd, ATI Radeon 3200 graphics, Harmon kardon speakers. Lots more stuff. By the way, when I went into the local Best Buy just to see what else they might have, and told them about the laptop I ordered, The computer sales staff did not believe me. No way they said. Till they looked it up.

For me it's in no particular order:
A freezer full of tasty snacks
Seeing my grandkids learning new things and becoming young men
Watching the progressive lives of my four boys, and their beautiful wives
Forming a closer relationship with my brother as we grow older
Enjoying very good health ( that's a biggie! )
Even after a lifetime of learning, I still look forward to accomplishing something new at my workshop every day
Sleeping very well at night and most important....waking up to each new day
I enjoy having a great sense of humor, and enjoying several good laughs every day

key scrambler It defeats keyloggers by encrypting your keystrokes
Posted:
7/2/2009 5:14:09 PM
I am not a geek, so correct me if I am wrong. I believe that I have come across a 100% effective block for discovering a password by keystroke method.
While typing your password....for some keystrokes move your curser to the address bar at the top of the browser. Do this several times back and forth. A keylogger cannot tell if all the letters or numbers were not in the password.
However you must type the same every time, or a smart geek could figure out the odd letters or numbers.
Am I wrong?

If the deck is to be built in the direct sunlight, note that all material gets hot, however the composite materials grab that summer heat and hold on tight, Wood gets hot, but cools quicker. Also composite materials eat saw blades. Most have bits of metal in them.

So Many Choices
Posted:
6/24/2009 5:25:39 PM
"The best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry". From "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. A truer saying there is not. We as mere humans often find ourselves at the mercy of uncharted events. The best we can do is focus on the task at hand, and concentrate on accomplishment.
As far as a relationship goes, I find that in this stage of my life, I have no "clock". So I don't worry about it. My work takes up almost all my time, the rest is for the kids and grand kids. I am satisfied with this for the time being. Perhaps in the near or distant future I will concentrate on a different direction.

does the first meet count as the first date?
Posted:
4/27/2009 5:40:57 PM
Online based first meetings are not "dates" in my opinion. For instance, if you walk up to someone that looks interesting to you at a bar, club, etc, start talking, share a drink , and get to know each other a little.....that is not a date. It is just meeting someone. If a spark is lit and you decide to meet again, that would be a date. That's why I state in my profile that the first meeting by this method is not considered a date by me. But that's just me.

Does head over heels in love still happen after 45?
Posted:
4/25/2009 12:17:22 PM
I am 63 and still as vibrant as I think I was, however I have been burned twice. I have decided that "falling in love" is just not an option for me to be happy. You are younger and have more options available to you. My advice would be, don't go looking for love. Let it creep up on you if you discover someone. However I would agree that at this point is your life, you are more discerning, and that is good.
