Don Cherry must go ! ! !
Posted: 11/4/2006 7:14:05 PM
Actually, there are a lot of reasons but, I just finished watching the leaf game while perusing the forums here. Usually I change the channel but tonight I was distracted and ended up listing to his post-game rant.

I live in Toronto and actually agree with the rest of Canada about the favoritism the CBC show towards Leaf hockey but now Cherry doesn’t even talk about the games; he went on about traffic and driving to Buffalo, complained about not winning awards and as usual took credit for players successes (even though none of them listen to him and haven’t been on his show or mentioned him for years).

The Leafs broke buffalo streak for not losing in regulation time and Captain Sundin got two goals but the only credit he could give was to Raycroft who wasn’t really challenged and to Belak, who had a meaningless fight with the only goon on buffalo in the first period, saying that fight was a turning point in the game which it clearly wasn’t.

He refuses to give Sundin (or any European) credit or even pronounces their names properly. The last time I had the misfortune of being at a friends house who wanted to watch the idiot was the night against Calgary when Sundin got his 500th goal, a short-handed over-time game winner and a hat trick. What did Cherry talk about? The old days and Bobby Orr as usual!

There are a lot of other reason’s why I’m just sick of Cherry but I think it would be redundant to list them here.

I actually saw this on a bathroom wall in a bar and each line was in a different colour and looked like different hand writing.

"Homophobics of the world unite!"

and underneath

"But don't get too buddy-buddy"

Anyone got some good stomach excerises?
Posted: 4/13/2006 7:24:25 PM
Nick, Sorry to read about your problems; it sounds like you're having a rough time.

Here's an exercise that is truly amazingly simple but amazingly affective for beginners and especially people with back trouble. You can start doing this on a bed and then move to a coffee table or something harder but you need an edge.

Sit on the edge of the bed with you feet on the floor. Lean back with your hands at your sides and grip the edge of the mattress. You can squeze your hands to stabilize and hold on for a bit longer Now, lift your legs straight into the air so they're at a 90 degree angle to your body. If you have to swing or rock to get them up there that's OK.

That's it! Try to hold your legs up there for 30 seconds, then 45 seconds, 60 seconds, etc. You'l be amazed at how affective this is at working all your abds and contracting your stomach. It will take less than a minute to go try it and see for yourself.

Good Luck Man!

Ten Reasons to Throw out your Microwave Oven
Posted: 2/21/2006 7:02:33 PM
Actually, travelling in a jet airplane exposes you to the most radiation. If you don't believe me look it up.

I only took high school physics and think I was off sick they day we learned about microwve ovens. However, I have been assured by several well educated people that microwaves are safe but not really a good way to cook because the speed at which they cook is like cooking in at a very high temperature which would also ruin they taste and kill nutrients.

I have also been told but am not 100% sure that microwaves are perfectly good for thawing meat and heating up water. Which is the only use I have for them.

BTW: Hasn't Kevin Trudeau been exposed as a fraud and plagarist on several shows like 20/20 and 60 minutes?

Wayne Gretsky is really starting to bug me.
Posted: 12/3/2005 8:06:06 PM
I've always been a huge Gretsky fan but lately he is really starting to bug me. He has started to comment on everything (even non-hockey related topics) and gets so upset when anyone challenges him.

Sure, he was an amazing goal scorer in his day but, he has to prove himself in other areas and can't just expect people to just agree with everything he says without questioning it.

His coaching has been sketcky at best. He's the coach not the GM so what is he doing getting rid of players? He got rid of six of them! This will surely come back to haunt him because he basically insulted everyone of them, their work ethics and playing abilities after they left (a huge no-no for coaches on all levels). They may be young but they are pros and at that level don't need to be screamed at from the bench during games. Which is what Gretsky does.

Why didn't he get penalized like other coaches for that Shane Doan fighting incident?

How did he become head coach all of a sudden and everyone thinks it is great but they (on T.V.) openly say thinks like "Who does he think he is?" about Patrick Roy when he is only coaching a minor league team he owns?

I could go on about his automatically taking all the credit for the Olympic Hockey team's gold medal, the crockadile tears at press conferences, refusal to give credit to youg player, his overpriced clothing line, the very many comercials and endorsements but, overall I just have to say I have had enough of the retired from playing Wayne Gretsky!

People always say they look young for their age
Posted: 12/3/2005 7:43:47 PM
I have to say I agree with this. I hear it all the time from people that don't look young for their age and I know people that look amazing for their age but never say a word about it.

There is a guy at work that bugs me because he will proudly and loudly say "I don't show my age" at least once a week and often describes himself as hot because his wife tells him this. He's 43 but people think he brags because he's in his fifties. Why is that?

BTW: I think I look just about right for my age, not good or bad.

What about PBS?

Let's face it, the right wing, with it's power and money, is more sexy than the the left. Also, they can distill their ideas (they actually have ideas) into easily presented sound bites. Those work better for T.V.

p.s. How did the left get so boring?

Left-handed people that keep complaining about how difficult it is living in a "right-handed world"

The real question: How to get out of Iraq What would you do?
Posted: 11/12/2005 7:38:44 PM
My point was that we have all heard from both sides on the issue. The discussions will go on forever: was the intelligence faulty or did the administration lie about what intelligence they had?

There is a growing frustration out there (which is being expressed in the media, especially on Blogs) that there hasn't been enough discussion of real solutions; just too much partisianship, finger pointing, explanations or whatever.

That's why my question was "What would you do to "fix" Iraq?"

I think there have been some great ideas presented here and that is what I wanted to see. Thanks to everyone!

women's new fashion trend
Posted: 11/12/2005 7:09:18 PM
ultravoxgurl - I don't get it? My last girlfreind had at least 12 pair of underwear; she hated the term panties. At least 8 of those were silk and said she said she wouldn't wear underwear unless she felt sexy/feminine in it.

There is trend here. I don't know what they are callled. A female freind of mine call them pregnancy shirts and hates them; she says the material is too thin and provides no support for her boobs. They have strings for straps and very loose around the waist.

Sports that make no sense
Posted: 11/6/2005 5:32:59 PM
tripdave,
First off, soccer (or football) is boring. That is why most people that leave soccer playing countries immediately become interested in other sports and loose all interest in soccer.

It is very low skill; that's why it is so popular with young children.

At the professional level it is just a bunch of grown men in short pants, faking injuries and after a 90+ minute game a usual score of 1-0 or 2-1.

Reasons to lose weight
Posted: 11/3/2005 4:13:56 PM
From Men's Health Magazine. Take your pick if you need a reason!

1. Because you whine that you need to. Have you ever been wrong about anything?

2. Twenty pounds of warm human fat can refill every bottle in an empty case of beer, with enough left over to fill your blender.

3. The statement "There's more of me to love" has an actual bedroom translation of "There's more of me to endure."

4. It's not scaling Everest or writing the great American novel. You can do it in your spare time.

5. You'll speak of toaster pastries the way you talk about that dirty blonde from the blues bar in Berkeley, another whiskey-soaked lament over a love too great to last.

6. It's the difference between being thought of as jolly or witty.

7. You'll lose weight everywhere, including the suprapubic fat pad at the base of your penis. So as your belly shrinks, something else appears to grow.

8. Decreased: your chances of developing heart disease, prostate cancer, diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, back pain, impotence, gallstones, joint problems, high blood pressure, low sperm counts, and an impressive collection of prescription-drug bottles.

9. Increased: your chances of putting four fingers on a basketball rim.

10. You'll literally get closer to women.

11. Holy sh-- . . . abs!

12. Men who lose weight never have less sex. They may not have more, mind you, but they never have less.

13. You'll shock the world at your local pool by being the only "big splash" champ to win the "little splash" crown.

14. Research shows that since you'll have less weight propelling you into the windshield, you'll also have less risk of dying when your car hits a semi.

15. Every time you pick up a 20-pound dumbbell, you'll remember.

16. You'll be able to reach even more places to scratch.

17. The clothing cliche: It's liberating the first time your pants fall down by themselves.

18. More pullups, because there's less to pull up.

19. Wait till you ride a WaveRunner, quad, or snowmobile when you're 20 pounds lighter. Vroom, baby.

20. In our society, people respect weight loss. Even if you do nothing cool or interesting or memorable for the rest of your life, you'll have done that.

Have you tried FireFox instead of IE? It's free, great at cutting out pop-ups, has a lot of great features and some great search engines too. Maybe you've been hit by spyware, try Spybot and Ad- aware to remove those -they're free too!

Also, Firefox install in its own folder and stays separate from your system; as opposed to IE which becomes a part of you system. It is safer in other ways too, but don't remove IE. You need to download updates from M$.

Funny Dog Joke
Posted: 11/1/2005 5:22:47 PM
Two dogs are sitting in a pen at the vet's and the German Shepherd turns to the Pit Bull and says “So, why are you here?”

The Pit Bull says “Well, my owner is a real macho type guy. He’s always hitting me, shouting at me, pulling on my chain and a lot of stuff to toughen me up. Yesterday he was doing it all day. I just couldn’t take it anymore so I bit him.”

The Shepherd says “That’s too bad. Are they putting you to sleep?”

The Pit Bull says “Yeah. Why are you here?”

The Shepherd says “My owner is this really beautiful woman with a really hot body. She is always walking around naked and it drives me nuts. The other day she had just gotten out of the shower and was putting in her contact lenses when she dropped one. There she was crawling around the bathroom floor on her hands and knees while naked. I couldn’t stop myself so I got behind her, climbed on top and started pumping!”

The Pit Bull says “Wow! So I guess you’re getting put to sleep for sure!”

The Shepherd says “No, I’m getting my nails clipped.”

Jack makes some great points. Having measurables goals as achievable milestones would be great. However, it does seem a little idealistic.

Pulling out and letting the chips fall where they may be the only solution. All hell WOULD break loose but I don't think the international comunities would just sit on the sidelines and watch it to go on too long just to prove America was wrong to go into Iraq.

Leafs vs. Sens
Posted: 10/30/2005 8:24:11 PM
Don't get me wrong I'm not a Leafs fan but, if the 1st place team (Ottawa) plays the 8th (Toronto) it may happen.

BTW: The Leaf organization should learn from Ottawa how to retool, getting the players they need and making smart deals. The Toronto hockey fans have had enough of the Leafs picking up these older Ontario guys at the end of their careers and not the start! - Guys like Lindros, Nolan, Roberts, corson, Neiwendyk, Gilmour . . . the list goes on. Maybe they'll get Spezza in 2015.

Dominik Hasek is still great, Danny Heatley was a great aquisition, it looks like Jason Spezza is going to become a star, they have abandoned the defensive opproach and are a very exciting team to watch. No wonder they're favored for the cup.

Two questions still remain:
Does this team have heart?

Will the leafs beat em in the playoffs, AGAIN?

Are drug dealers the ones who want to keep drugs illegal the most?
Posted: 10/29/2005 6:14:19 PM
This is what is meant by "decriminalizing". the idea is that by getting the government involved in the distribution and sale of the "soft" drugs like pot and hash then organized crime/criminal would no longer be interested in it and it would take away a major money stream.

Also, the casual user wouldn't have to deal with that segment of society, wouldn't breaking the law and the police/criminal justice system wouldn't be burdened with punishing all these casual users (most of whom have families and jobs).

The real question: How to get out of Iraq What would you do?
Posted: 10/29/2005 6:04:45 PM
A reporter for the Washington Post (I can't recall his name) has been asking the question I've been waiting to be asked but so far no one has been able to provide an answer.

First, don't use the question (or every question) as an excuse to go on a rant about George Bush, his administration, whether or not the US should be in Iraq, Weapon's of mass destruction, insurgents, Donald Rumsfeld, Ossama, and everthing else. Evryone knows the situation and the debates about what was done right or wrong can go on forever.

If you had ultimate power over evrything to do with American involvement in Iraq: to stay or leave, control of the Army, policies, short-term vision, long-term vision etc. what would you do?

p.s. We all know the democrats can't come up with any ideas and they are fixated on hating Bush so let's not go there

He is also very vindictive. The announcer, John Melendez, used to be stuttering John on Howard Stern's show. WHen Howard made fun of Jay and started doing moking immitations Jay called in and said he would get even if howard kept it up. Then, when Jerry Signfeld was on Howard's show, they joked about Jay's obsession with porn (if you watch the show he talks about porn all the time and his wife and others have mentioned it as a "pre-occupation"). Jay said "that was the last straw" and lured stuttering john over to his show.

John Melendez shouldn't even be on the show. He is a lousy announcer and the bits he does aren't even funny!

Quiting Smoking
Posted: 10/23/2005 10:43:36 AM
I tried most methods myself and what finally worked for me was reccomended by a doctor absed on his knowledge of the addiction (he is actually writing a paper/book on this method).

It is deceptivley simple but very effective. Every time I had the urge to smoke I would fight it while keeping in mind a couple of facts: that it is a physical addiction, I can wean myself off and, most importantly, the urge to have a smoke only lasts about 30 seconds.

When you're fully-addicted the urge to smoke comes in waves so frequently it can be constant. However, as you get into the habit of stretching out the length of time between smokes, you will start to notice the rise and fall of these urges. Rather quickly you become aware of these things and start to smoke only enough to keep the urges at bay. Delaying smoking becomes easier and eventually you start to delay having a smoke for longer periods of time as you realize the delaying of smoking is weakening he urges.

You get braver and no longer have a smoke " just in case" you won't be able to have one for a while; going into moovies , meetings, long drives, lunches, etc. Eventually minutes become hours then over night then your only having one pre day then it's once every couple of days then you have quit!

In my original post I was just wondering if other people were noticing that Jazz seems to be going through (yet another) revival of renewed interest whether it be because of movies, T.V., whatever or just nothing else interesting to listen to.

Now I'm thinking: who can I get to go see Bill Frisell tomorrow at the Pheonix Concert theatre in Toronto?
