Would you date someone from the USA Posted: 7/18/2009 5:38:44 AM | Haaa haaa haaahahaha All I can say is, be very careful what you wish for . . . I met a girl skiing at Wildcat Mtn. in New Hampshire. She was everything that I every thought I wanted in a soul mate. WE wrote for a year ( penmanship, The lost art of writing ) And after a year of corresponding by mail we rendezvoused at the same mountain. Fell in Love over the next year-and-a-half. Commuted 440 miles door to door. One weekend in Salem, Massachusetts, one weekend in Albany, New York and one weekend in Kingston, Ontario. We did this for four years . . . yep . . . you do the math . . . 140,000 miles, not kilometers over four years
Then I proposed to here at the top of a Mt. Lafayette in New Hampshire . . . Boy the poor girl, there was no other way down . . . She said yes !!! 0 0 !!! OMG Now, where to live, where to work, who is coming where, taxation advantages ??? So I went to Massachusetts. The ocean, the smell of the brine, seafood extravaganza, Boston, the arts, the entertainment, the Kennedys' :-)
So nice a beginning and unfortunately a sad ending. We are still great friends even after almost 13 years of marriage. Things happen, and they do happen for a reason. But not to get off topic. You think the traveling from door to door was much ! Every family get together, births, weddings, funerals, Christmas', was a taxing experience to say the least. Snowed in, stuck in Airports, stuck on the road and I have not even mentioned Immigration !!! That can be a whole different topic. It was actually harder for me re-entering Canada than it was going back to the states. (Young custom agents phfff ! )
I was told by some very close comrades and associates, before I quit my job and left for the states . . . Family, Friends, church, community and values . . . I ensured him I was thinking with the right head and made my move to the states. Love conquers all. I believe that, but things do happen that are out of your control.
So if your slipping across the border into Detroit or Port Huron, Buffalo, Watertown (Egads) or even Alexandria Bay, that might be close enough for comfort, but being GUD geographically undesirable is a real topic de jour. So good luck to anyone who would like to try . . . I take my hat off to you. There is so much more to consider than I can possibly bring up here in this form. Would I do it again . . Not with such a distance between us !
Yes you guessed it, I'm Irish . . a wee bit of the gab Good luck in the pond | | | |
