Could someone explain diesel to me?
Posted:
6/14/2009 9:55:36 PM
Supply/demand, or so they say, especially during a real cold winter. It was always cheaper than gas, but slowly crept up and then flew past gas, now its back below gas again lol. Another reason is that it now requires more processing to reduce sulphur and stuff to get a cleaner product, not just for the emissions, but because it will clog newer equipment. I'm not sure if there is still the really dirty diesel around for marine use and such.

Hackers, good or bad?
Posted:
6/14/2009 12:34:00 PM
I always thought a hacker was dealing with software, while hardware was more of a mod thing, like swapping out caps and other parts, making something better or faster, maybe rewriting drivers and stuff.
What do members of POF think of hackers?
Each situation is different, some I think should be locked up, others I couldnt care less about while others are helpful.
I guess you could also consider people who go into games and write programs to help others mod the game to be hackers. A lot of these people will extend the life of a game by years, adding new content and actually getting help from the game developers, as seen on many forums. This is helpful to the company as well as people who play the games.

Sound Driver problem

Yes, go to the HP site and get the drivers, it may auto detect what you need, otherwise there may be an all in one driver that you can get, this is your mobo, modem/lan, video and sound. I've always built my own PCs so am unfamiliar with the HP site, just ensure that you get all the drivers, chances are the sound and video are onboard and not separate cards.

broken finger nail - how do you fix it
Posted:
6/9/2009 7:48:36 PM
About 20 years ago I split a nail and still have a ridge in it, actually feels like I have a partial overlap. Another nail was partially lifted and I still have a small space under the nail that collects dirt, the nail never reatached. I'm not sure if theres anything that can be done or if your nail will ever be "normal" again, but I never went to the hospital.
If it was me, I'd likely wear a bandaid for a few days until it wasnt as tender or sensitive then let it heal. Not sure if it can be fixed like reattaching a finger or something lol.

Car manufactures..... my 2 cents

They were only giving the American public what it wanted.
Cant blame them for that.
OK, before you start talking about dragons, unicorns and princesses...
If GM
WAS
giving the consumer what they wanted, you would assume that their sales and market share would remain somewhat consistent or even increase. They had the top market share for many years, but that has been in steady decline for a while now, taken over by Toyota. You would then assume that Toyota WAS giving consumers what they wanted. Perhaps you and 100 of your buddies wanted that 6000 lb, 8mpg SUV so GM made them to keep your loyal little group. What they didnt do was go after the hundreds of thousands of customers that were buying up other cars and satisfy them, ask why they left.

Well scum is scum, sometimes its hard to diferentiate between the good guy and bad guy. Some people believe they know everything and are above everyone else just because they have a certain education. Others have far more education but view things differently. These are the people who you should look up to, not the supposed know it alls, which you can more or less pity.

My thoughts were to let them shut right down and start over, get rid of the unions and hire back based on performance records. IMHO, I dont think that the average joe bolting on fenders with only high school or equivalent should be makin $40/hour and have benefits coming outta his a$$ until the day he dies. There isnt the need for unions today as there was when they were brought out. A friend has worked for Honda for 15 years and they DONT want any union there, besides, Honda would shut the plant lol. They are paid about $10 less than GM, but still make well over $30/hour plus excellent bonuses and benefits.
Its a very monotonous job and is often responsible for repetive motion injuries. I know several people who work for GM, Honda and Goodyear and they all have various joint problems and most agree that they are way overpaid and wouldnt do it if the money wasnt as good. Thats why so many robots are in use now.
The car makers were so c0cky over the years, just doing what they wanted, treating customers like crap and not pursuing alternatives. Carter started when he was pres, but that got brushed under the rug when reagan took over and governments, the oil companies and car manufacturers kept stifling advancements, telling the consumers what they want instead of giving them what they want. Its just one big circle involving everyone BUT the consumer. What you need is for government to actually legislate fuel economy, electric cars and alternatives without getting hassled by lobbyists or the car and oil companies.
Standardized parts are already widespread in farm equipment and tractor trailers. Theres only a few engine, suspension and brake makers that supply all of the truck and farm machinery makers. It makes repairs and inventory easier because you may only need a few hundred parts instead of parts for every brand and year like auto shops. That one oil/air filter may fit 100 different trucks, combines and tractors.

Ok, you did much better, but...
I also like to read, watch movies and tv, play games, hang out with friends, the usual stuff. I also like going to concerts when a band I like is in town. I enjoy going to comedy shows from time to time as well.
Again, the list...
Read what? Opera weekly, Playboy?
What concerts have you been to, favorite bands....
I'm a big science fiction fan but I also like shakespeare and other literature.
Old star trek, star wars, heavy metal...? Expand or put in interests, women dont want a shopping list.
These last couple of months have taught me alot about myself and what I want in a relationship. I can honestly say I've felt the joy of finding that perfect match and I want to feel it again. I realized that I can't keep settling for "whatever I can get" anymore.
Negative, why arent you still with your perfect match?
I can't keep settling? What is she gonna think about this?
rewrite this paragraph or take it out.
Better pics this time, not bad writing, but still need some work, try to be MORE positive.

So what does everyone think of my profile?

Closeup happy face is a must.
You are from Pakistan and chose asian instead of mid eastern?
Maybe you can elaborate on your upbringing, I assume you are americanized with a fair bit of influence from your parents. Woman would like to know how they would be treated, since various cultures treat women differently. I've grown up with friends that you wouldnt even know had parents from the mid east, while others had very controlling parents who wanted them to live like they were still back home.
Overall its a decent profile, pretty well done.

WOW man, u r a mess. Not everyone gets along, thats why people split up but most of your profile is negative and gives a woman the impression that shes likely your next ex. If it is you, not being able to handle the little things she does that annoys you, like leaving the toothpaste cap off or on, then you have issues. If its just the fact that you dont get along as a couple, then you are pretty normal.
Get rid of the negativity. The first part is basically a list, put most up in interests or write more about them.
The date part was good, I havent bowled in years and it made me feel like going bowling lol.
When you rewrite it, put it in paragraphs, even that small part you had was hard to read, just a big wall of letters.
You got a closeup of your ying yang, but we barely even know what your face looks like, you want a nice closeup happy face.

Cookies with an ice cream scoop-question

Yes, you can use the scoop (with the lever of course) for almost any batter or dough, from cookies to muffins and pancakes. There are several sizes you can get, nice and fast for making everything uniform size. They even work with ice cream.

Is making bread more frugal?
Posted:
6/3/2009 11:36:14 AM
I couldnt find my other post, but you can easily add in garlic/(whetever) near the end of mixing or another way below. I learned this from an old european baker, he said it was how they made bread at home.
I had another post about making bread with other ingredients by laying out the dough, adding your ingredients, egg wash if necessary, then cutting the dough with a dough divider (or knife), so that you have small chunks of dough and your other ingredients all mixed together, then drop it in your pan, proof and bake. The more you chop, the more marbelling you will have.
You can do this with anything
cheese blends
onions, herbs, etc.
candied fruit/cherries then icing on top after baked
apples and or raisons and cinamon sugar
(use regular white dough and not a sweet dough)
Another great one is coating the pan with about 1/4 inch of a sugar/shortening blend and using sweet ingredients like apple/cinnamon. The sugar caramalizes as its baked, then you drop the loaf upside down on a pan to cool and you have the nice sweet gooey glaze already on top (actually bottom)of the loaf.
This was how he made the cinnamon rolls and sticky buns to, no need to add separate icing.

We're not doing nearly enough to protect this country in my opinion.
Yes, I can imagine a big dome over the US at some point, maybe even a concrete wall around the perimiter in the near future, after all, bin laden could come over in a sub one day and would have to scale that wall that now blocks that beach front view you used to have instead of just marching his troops right past your house. Easier yet, he could just hitch a ride on one of the thousands of cargo ships that come into US waters everyday unchecked, taking the tiny chance that he MAY get caught.
It was awful, theres no denying it, 9/11 was one of the worst acts of terrorism ever, the worst for the US.
When you look at the numbers though, you have a greater chance of walking down the road and being hit by lightening, shot and ran over by a car at the same time. If that doesnt kill you then the doctors WILL.
On average a few thousand die each year from "terrorism" worldwide.
3000 died on 9/11, but more than half a million americans died that year from medical mishaps and perscription mistakes. How many americans were murdered by other americans, by car accidents, even falling down the stairs?
ter·ror·ism defn.
The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.
Terrorism is a policy or ideology of violence intended to intimidate or cause terror for the purpose of "exerting pressure on decision making by state bodies."
the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
Basically terrorism is intended to create fear and intimidation, keep you "on your toes" wondering whats going to happen next and when. It has obviously worked very well because so many people have let it work.

the result? our debt wiped out.
What debt, the US national debt or your phone bill and visa?
Who is gonna wipe it out? Why would someone take a trillion dollar loss from the US? The US owes money to MANY people and countries around the world.
Who is going to pay for another US war?
It takes money to go to war, governments spend your tax dollars to go to war, war is expensive, in many more ways than financially.

Korea threatens

Most economists presently suggest one way (or may be the only way) to reverse this global economic downturn is a WAR.
War is constant, the US is at war now, kinda.
In order to turn the economy around you would need another world war, not a few minor scuffles here and there. WW2 was so massive that there was very little unemployment, almost everyone was in the military or working. There was so much equipment and supplies needed to supply the military in England, Africa and Italy, and the Pacific that the economy was in overdrive, so much that many civilian items were dropped in order to produce war materials. Millions of tanks planes and ships were produced alone, not to mention uniforms, food and ammo.
Today war is more about technology, less about sheer manpower. Producing a few thousand tanks and cruise missiles will help a few companies and make some people rich, but is only a drop in the economic ocean. Perhaps a world war would help, by at least lowering the unemployment rate and opening a few thousand closed factories.

Overall this profile is hard to read, you seem to jump around with so many ideas as they pop into your head. Its pretty bad in my opinion, you got some info there but you need more and organize it into well written paragraphs, one thought at a time.
Pics, well u and son isnt bad, some people are afraid of putting kids pics up, but you should have a nice clear smiling headshot (no sunglasses, hats, hands, etc.) and a few others to give people an idea of who you are.
You look like you have a fair bit of work to get this in order.

OK, you got one pic but its not that good, a bit blurry, you need a nice close up happy face, full body shot helps, and preferrably a few others trying to give an idea of who you are. The more the merrier.
Overall its kind of boring, you have a lot of lists in your profile so either put them up top or go into more detail. Can you add more about the guy besides being active, any specifics?
Suprise me! ;) Do something off the wall! Crazy and spontaneous might leave me wanting more....

WOW loki09, dont know why you are so negative about bread and peoples opinions, not to mention being ignorant on so many facts.
If you put bread in the freezer after you mix it up...you will have problems..I know this, I tried it does not work very well
Frozen dough works just fine when thawed, proofed and baked. If it doesnt rise as much as the fresh dough you can add more yeast next time you make it. You are obviousely doing something wrong.
bread is bread...the staff of life
first off its stuff of life, spell check that ok along with about everything else you typed
staff of life = bread lol, you can even google that.
it is about what you do WITH the ingredients with yields a different result...anyone with some knowledge of baking will tell you that
Very few breads have a secret step which will give an extraordinary effect. Sourdough is one, some people have a starter that has been used for literally hundreds of years, just add enough to replace what you used that day.
I do not need to give myself credibility
Yes, you already showed that many times. You havent shown much if any yet...
It’s always the same douche bag who sits on these posts who think he knows something and when someone comes along and smacks them with a reality bat they freak
And you are referring to yourself or another individual?
You personally made hundreds or maybe even thousands of loaves of bread.....great!! that's AWESOME wow would you like me to bake you a cookie....your a factory bread maker... one crappy recipe made over and over again --- thats a joke son !
Yes, I worked in a factory bakery when I was in my early 20's, as well as a scratch bakery, I had about 3-4 years of experience. You learn a lot about different doughs and get to know about various problems and how to fix them. It shows that I know a lot more about breads then the average person here.
I learned the hard way....no mixers....and had to learn with no mixes or prep... fun
I rarely ever buy any kind of mix, they rarely taste as good as scratch, as for mixers, one of the greatest invention ever IMHO, maybe if you actually used one properly you would realize that they are a great tool.

and 1 pound blocks of yeast !! NO ONE makes that much bread !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think 1 pound block would make about 40-60 loaves and should last in the fridge for at least a month. Some people prefer to use fresh yeast.
and saffron ? that you put in sea food dishes...and if you do put that in YOUR bread....eeewwwww
I assume you've never had saffron bread.
Personally, I've made hundreds of thousands of loaves of bread, the majority in a large factory bakery, but also many loaves in a small scratch bakery (no mixes or prepared items).
I've also been baking since I was a kid, have made many different types of breads.
I also prefer using a breadmaker or my kitchen aid to prepare many items.
Its just easier, plus you can do other things while its mixing.
I dont use a mixer for the more delicate things like muffins, pancakes, pie crust dough, etc. where you just barely have to combine ingredients.

Weeds, help!
Posted:
6/1/2009 5:59:49 PM
A good way to prevent weeds is to have a very strong lawn where weeds arent given a chance to get root. Look around you, especially into the wind and if you notice dandelions and other weeds it will be almost impossible to prevent weeds in your own yard since the seeds will keep blowing onto your yard, year after year. A lot of municipalities are banning weed killers but there are other alternatives. Just remember its impossible to have the perfect lawn when your surrounded by weeds.

Pics are dark and blurry, we dont get a very good sense of you, you need at least one clear happy face closeup.
EDIT: ok, I dont know what happened, but your pics seem clearer and lighter now, 5 minutes ago I could barely even see your face in 3-4 of them.

I am a Georgia girl and in the South, the term "dinner" can also be used to describe the meal at around 11am, while supper is used to denote the evening meal.
AH, I'm used to terms like breakfast, brunch, lunch, then dinner/supper for the evening meal. "Supper" was usually something you ate at home, dinner just being a fancy way of saying supper. I usually relate supper to eating at home and going out for dinner. OK, from now on I'll just yell "LETS EAT".

For me its a combo of being shy and not quite understanding a profile, if we'd be compatible or not.
I look, maybe look again the next day because I forgot the pic she had, maybe look for a change in a profile...
I find some thumbnails are similar and I end up clicking on a profile several times even after I concluded that the person isnt a match, its just a mistake.
Sometimes I click hoping that the person will write me back lol.
Sometimes I just wont write because I'm afraid she'll just say no.

Troll? Filled with hate? I dont see any hate. I simply stated what I saw from your very brief profile.
Your entire profile is about playing a video game and getting high.
You claim to be the best CS player, possibly on this continent. That shows that all of your time is consumed in your kitchen.
95% of women would like to do something other than playing a game and get stoned.

Its a start, a little bland, go more into detail on a few things, your interests and more about the woman.

Well you know you need pics, nice clear ones, smiley face, full body, all that jazz, dont mention it on your profile.
Its farily short and boring, not much about you or a woman, expand a few things like u did with the bike, show who you are and what you want.

I read that above in your profile!!!!!!!!

WOOT, must be exciting there!!!!!!!!!! Maybe you could tell us more about it since it is already at the top of your profile
like just going out and having fun!
Maybe you could explain!!!!!!
I am very shy when meeting new people!
WOOT, me to!!!!!!!!!
im thinking my pics are not the best pics i could have put on the profile??
YES, you need more plus a nice happy face closeup would be nice!!!!!!!
Your grammer needs work, maybe you could check typos and be more frugal with your !!!!!!
There is very little here about you, your interests or what you want in a female. All I know is your a shy mechanic who likes ice cream and using !!!!!!!!

I used to cross the border a LOT for business, usually 1-2 times a week, sometimes more, but since 2002-2003 I got fed up with the waits, random searches and the feeling of being treated like a criminal. I've been in the "interrogation room" waiting for immigration to get arround to checking my birth certificate and background. I'm just an average white guy that has barely even done anything bad in my life, I havent even been in prison lol. I dont plan to go back to the US at any time soon if ever and its a shame because I actually like a lot of the US.
How many people that post here have actually crossed the border? If you did once or twice with realative ease, then great.
How many trillions of dollars has been spent on border security since 9/11?
How many millions of travellers have been inconvenienced since 9/11?
How many "terrorists" have actually been caught at the border? Dont include infants, grannies and regular Joe's on a no fly list that were prevented to board planes, etc.
If I were a terrorist, why would I even risk crossing thru security when I could just drive thru an open spot over the hundreds of miles of unprotected border, jump on a small boat and cross anywhere between canada, mexico or even cuba, likewise with a small plane.

excellent_guy reminded me of a story.
Many years ago, a US friend of mine was telling me about a Japanese company they had started doing business with. At the beginning they drew up a contract, including the number of defects thats acceptable per order. When the first shipment of parts arrived they noticed a small box and it contained the XX number of defects and a note explaining that these were manufactured separately, hoped that they were satisfactory, but did not understand why they would accept defects or what purpose they served. They had no concept of this.
Indeed, the Japanese have a very different way of doing things.

Please review my profile

My friend tried to get ya'll to review my profile but there was alot of hostility....
Well, you have to ask for your own profile to be reviewed. It only takes 3 days before you can post on the forums, so....
So what do ya'll think?
...joke...serious...?
I dont seem to be getting the responses that i want. Am i too forward, am i too 1337? I know i rick roll kids all day and all night but the girliepoo's dont enjoy that?
I see no profile here, just some faceless Joe who likely sits in a basement all day playin and smokin, maybe wants a quickie while hes waiting for a patch or maintenance. You think your the best and likely want a woman who would want nothing to do with you, a woman who would like to see the sun and breath fresh air on occasion.

Pics arent bad, but you can use a nice closeup smiley face, and is that some guy from the bar last nite, uncle or brother? People will wonder if there are others in a pic.
You got a few typos and its missing something, it just doesnt get me that interested, not sure what to put in there.

I am Seeking a Man For Long Term
Can switch to dating, I think that there are many more dating and you may get left out in a search.
Overall its not too bad, I'd say to put more about you and the man u want and you have a nice variety of pics, more doesnt hurt. Try to add more to interests as well.

OK, I see your switching some of the pics, the bathroom shot should be next. The pics should give an idea of who you are. Nice clear smiley face should be your main.
You gotta get rid of some of the lists in the profile, put them up top or talk about them.
Talk about the woman you want.

OK, had to laugh at the booty shot.
I love to party when appropriate
You had to put that in bold? Are you a drunk or does this happen 3 times a year?
Going for supper and trying new foods
I believe the ladies prefer "dinner".
Overall its not bad, you could add some more detail about you and her.

I just spent some time reading some suggestions online around the net on dating profiles and revamped my own.
I see, and you added the classic shirtless bathroom pic, the car AND truck pic, but you missed the self IN car pic and the self covered in chicks pic.
I'm tired of the bachelor life
You are 21, in school "living off campus down on the beach"
Are you even old enough to be called a bachelor at 21?
Overall it seems dull, not much life in there, I dont know what to say.

Could it be my username? mztrendydiva
Personally I dont look at names that much, but trendy and diva means different things to different people.
I've only been to Columbus twice I think, and all I can remember is it being one of the worst places for ignorant drivers, driving past school bus lights, cutting off others....
Perhaps they are too busy trying to get in front of you while giving you the finger that they dont even notice such a nice lookin woman.
Most of your pics are fine but you could junk the blurry ones and always put up a few more. Your profile isnt that great, its more of a drawn out list, most of which could go up top in interests. You need to explain yourself, who you are and what you want.

Looking for Advice

Well your profile seems fine and your pics are decent enough.
You have a couple "problems" so to speak. You look like you plan to relocate in the near future which will put off many men. "Horse people" are a slightly different breed and seem to be somewhat unique, similar to grape growers. Even though they are in an agricultural sector, farmers see them as outcasts and many city people cant get past the "dirt and smell".
As for getting mail from the oldies (I'm guessing not goodies), just set ur email settings to block whoever you dont want (age, drugs, intimate, etc.). If you set too many you could possibly miss a good one though.

I see you took some more pics, you look more relaxed in the first 2, you could junk the rest, they make you look uncomfortable and nervous.
Its still bland and boring, we dont really know much about you, a bit about your job, goin back to school, u got a cat and u r laid back.
Throw some stuff in there, more about you, what u like and the man you want.

Could someone please check out my profile and give me some feedback.
OK, will give it a quick shot.
My pic ok?
Yes, a smiling head shot as a main, now go get a bunch more, outside, doing something, full body shot, etc. Try to give a sense of you in the pics.
coffsgal
Was wondering who coff was or if you really liked coffee lol, didnt know it was a town.
I want to find myself a life partner. Someone to spend the rest of my life with. Someone to share the good times and the bad. someone who will be here for me when I need a shoulder and I will also be there for him. I don't want to spend the rest of my life alone.
BAD, you sound like your rushed and desperate and getting stressed that the PHONE HASNT RANG TONITE....AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a devoted person. I am honest, respectful and will not cheat on you.
Nice, but last part isnt needed, you dont want many negatives in your profile, even IF this is positive.

Agreed, I like it, tells us about you in a way, makes me laugh, pics are sufficient but more and clearer always helps, especially a happy face for the main.
You can also say more about what you want in a guy.
