COMEDY GOLD
This series celebrates one of the most popular of movie genres - films made to make us laugh - at ourselves, at society, in good times and bad. Hours of pleasure will be found in these superior blends of comedy and romance, featuring the mirth-provoking genius of a wonderful assembly of comic talent, from Cary Grant to Doris Day to Ernie Kovacs, as well as some surprises - John Wayne doing comedy?
So take your seat and prepare to smile, chuckle, guffaw, giggle, snicker, titter, cackle and roar with laughter.
Haven’t you heard?
Happiness is a funny movie.
April 16 , 2007 - 8 pm
INDISCREET (1958, colour, 99 min.)
Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman
A comedy of romance and revenge, piled high with civilized charm. Bergman plays a renowned actress with no romantic life until she meets a too-good-to-be-true diplomat. Is he all that he claims to be? Delightful is the word for this one. Director: Stanley Donen
April 23, 2007 - 8 pm
THE MORE THE MERRIER (1943, 104 min.)
Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, Charles Coburn
During wartime Washington’s housing shortage, a prim young lady reluctantly agrees to take an elderly man as boarder. He then sublets half his room to a handsome visitor, creating a variety of hilarious situations. A refreshingly intimate movie and one of the great comedies of the 40s. Director: George Stevens
April 30, 2007 - 8 pm
DESIGNING WOMAN (1957, colour, 118 min.)
Gregory Peck, Lauren Bacall
A bubbly comedy in the best plush MGM style, following a fashion designer’s decision to marry a sportswriter. What results is an amiable clash of interests reminiscent of the great Tracy-Hepburn vehicles. Director: Vincente Minnelli
May 7, 2007 - 8 pm
IT STARTED IN NAPLES (1960, colour, 100 min.)
Clark Gable, Sophia Loren
Gable (stiff with American honesty) and Loren (voluble with Italian guile) squabble over the future of an orphan child amid the ‘dolce vita’ temptations of a travelogue Italy. Sophia’s ebullience kick-starts this comedy to life. Director: Melville Shavelson
May 14, 2007 - 8 pm
THE THRILL OF IT ALL (1963, colour, 108 min.)
Doris Day, James Garner
A frothy matrimonial farce scripted by Carl Reiner that takes a satiric look at the world of TV advertising. Doris is a squeaky-clean housewife who is chosen to appear in soap commercials. The resulting fame disrupts her marriage and family life. Director: Norman Jewison
May 28, 2007 - 8 pm
MAN’S FAVORITE SPORT (1963, colour, 120 min.)
Rock Hudson, Paula Prentiss
A so-called fishing ‘expert’, who in reality has never fished, is forced to enter a big tournament where he’s confronted with a superior sportswoman. An amusing battle-of-the-sexes tale loaded with slapstick and some sexual innuendo. Director: Howard Hawks
June 4, 2007 - 8 pm
CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT (1945, 101 min.)
Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan
Forced to entertain her boss and a war veteran for the holidays, chic columnist Stanwyck, who has been posing as a homemaking expert, stands in danger of being exposed and fired. Her wild solution creates even more problems. A wonderful treat any time of the year. Director: Peter Godfrey
June 11, 2007 - 8 pm
NORTH TO ALASKA (1960, colour, 122 min.)
John Wayne, Stewart Granger, Capucine
A fast-moving, tongue-in-cheek North-Western. After striking gold Wayne travels to Seattle to fetch his partner’s sweetheart. But a surprise awaits. This film gave Wayne a rare chance to show his lighter side and play for laughs by throwing punch lines as well as punches. Director: Henry Hathaway

Should you give up your male friends??
Posted:
1/14/2007 12:23:41 PM
I have no problem with having friends who are the opposite sex.
What I have a problem with is "friends" who are not really friends. With my friends me or my SO can call them up and say " Hey come over for cards or supper or a backyard BBQ" ... no problem. People who are truely not your friends but past "FoCk Buddies" or hopeful hang arounds, who are waiting for your new relationship to fail do not meet the qualifications of friends.
Friends want your relationship to be great and for you to be happy cause they want the best for "you".

Is an ex really an ex for a reason?
Posted:

I have mixed feelings on this issue... I think if you didn't break up with violence or drama or harsh words but maybe because someone had issues that needed to be delt with and they needed the space or time then maybe. If you said mean things to each other than those things will be hard to get past with out lots of talking and face time. You both have to want to make it work.
Just remember it is your relationship and your life, so what is going to make you happy?

How is your changing jobs going to effect your children??? especially if it doesn't work out. Do you have enough money saved to cover all expenses say for six months to a year?
Try to work 4 days a week at your current job and in the other three days job shadow or do some shifts at night to see if another type of job is a fit before you jump.
Sometimes the grass really is "not" greener on the other side.

Oct 16 Monday Marilyn Monroe ~ The Seven Year Itch
Posted:
10/15/2006 5:11:00 PM
Hey it is almost that time again for the Movies....
This film entered pop culture when Marilyn stepped on a subway grating wearing a bellowy white skirt. She's wonderfully innocent as the new upstairs neighbour to timid Ewell, whose wife has gone on vacation. Thoughts of infidelity, much fantasized, get comically crushed. Clever & Amusing. Director Billy Wilder.

Our Independence and Our Relationships
Posted:
10/12/2006 6:42:18 AM
Yes independence is important even in a relationship you should still be able to be independant. But when you are so independant that you don't need anyone well that is not attactive. IMO if your this independant you are not listening to your inner self. We "all" need something... love, acceptance, acknowledgement, what ever, yes I agree the trick is not to need it so bad that you die from lack of it. But going the other way is not healthy either.
