another method i've used before...is the saturday box...anything that wasn't picked up by bedtime throught the week went into a box...they could have the stuff in the box back on saturday...it didn't matter if the item was taken away on sunday morning..or friday night...saturday was "return" day.
I do something similar to this with my two sons, ages 5 and 6. Anything that isn't picked up by bedtime gets put in a box but I don't give anything back to them until they have gone a week with a clean room at bedtime. This is kinda tough with them sharing a room but I just have to make sure I know who's toys/clothes are on the floor.
As for the reaction you get when asking your daughter to do something, I think it depends on the childs personality. My 5 yr old loves to help me and does so, most of the time without prompting. My 6 year old is 50/50. It does need to be addressed and yes my kid thinks I'm the meanest mom in the world when I tell him no TV because of the way he's behaving but, he's slowly but surely getting the point. Just remember, it'll get worse before it gets better.
