How many Purebreeds left in America?

I'm a caucasian asian. Half Japanese and half white. The "white" part of me is made up of 1/2 Bohemian (Czech) and I believe German and some other European makeup. So yes I am a MUTT too. But I look at myself as human and an American and very proud of both! There is something to be said about diversity. What a boring world this would be if we were all the same!

Undecided Voters????
Posted:

To be honest, I thought I had my mind made up months ago to vote for Barack Obama because of the failed Bush administration. However, with the economic crisis in the forefront, I am now not so hot for the Democratic ticket either because they are also not taking responsibility for our current mess. I'm fed up with both parties at this point and will be voting for the lesser of two evils.
I wish good old Ross Perot were running right now. I bet he would win against both parties right now. Both the Republicans and Democrats have failed the American people and it makes me sick that both parties blame the other party for all of our problems without acknowledging that we ARE ALL responsible for this mess. I'm also fed up with the childish campaigning on both sides that are now using negative and smear campaigns to scare the American people into not voting for the other person. What a joke our political system has become. And our political system has now spilled over into dividing average American citizens into hating each other because of what we believe in. Tolerant people...COEXIST...can we do that?

What is friends first?
Posted:

Susan,
My last few relationships I've had started out with attraction, romance, great sex, and passion. Things moved at a blinding speed. However, within a few months time, either I realized or my ex realized that we really didn't have much in common and had traits that both of us weren't willing to live with. So it would end like it started...fast and furous...lol. After being through a few of these whirlwind relationships, I think the "friends first and possibly more" might actually be a better way of starting a relationship. I'm finding that taking things slower, you really do get to know the other person first and you find whether you really would like to get to know the other person on a deeper level. You also find out if you are compatible and your senses of humor mesh. It certainly keeps my head from spinning and allows me the extra room to evaluate how things are going as opposed to reacting and keeping my sanity.

DHS Wants Taser Bracelets On All Air Passengers
Posted:
9/12/2008 4:34:05 PM
Hmmmm, how about this scenerio. Let's say a terrorist somehow gets on a plane and takes control of the taser controller from the airline stewardess. He has free reign to control the passengers without having to worry about another Flight 93 situation where he has to worry about the passengers attacking him. He then has free reign to fly the plane into any target he wishes with one less thing to worry about. YEAH we have some great thinkers in the DHS. Sign me up!

I also won't respond to a profile that has "I want a man that can make me laugh". Sheeesh, it sounds like I'm auditioning for a comedy club. It sounds like too much work and if I bomb, I get booed off stage or dumped. Ladies, I'd rather find somebody that laughs easily and doesn't take life so seriously instead of someone who is expecting their date to keep them rolling along with a comedy routine.

Office romance and break ups. A simple question.

I'm going through the same thing right now. I have run into my ex a few times in the hallway in passing. I just nod and say hi and keep on walking. That satisfies my interaction without having to succumb myself to an awkward conversation. I have no idea what her thoughts are and nor do I care.
Good luck and yes I 've learned my lesson dating someone from work.

Barrack Obama in Europe
Posted:
7/28/2008 3:49:32 PM
I can't for the life of me understand why so many Americans think having close European allies is such a BAD THING! We, as one country in this world, CANNOT defeat terrorism without help from other countries. What Barack Obama is doing is trying to create an atmosphere of cooperation with allies so that we have help in this fight and we aren't going it alone. He is trying to undo 7 years of damage to the US that GWB created. And if anybody thinks we can defeat terrorism by ourselves, is just not thinking clearly. As it stands now, we are ONE against the WORLD and that includes China and Russia against us. At least in the Cold War, we had our fair share of countries choose us over the Soviets. The problem with going it alone in todays world is that we cannot afford to go it alone. The cost to our military and economy will eventually collapse if we decide that we don't need any allies in this world.

There is NO OIL SHORTAGE

>how, with people power, every body must get together and have a no buy day thats
>the only way hit them in their pockets
I still believe we are in a world of hurt if we ignore that demand for oil will SOON be outdistancing supply. If you truly want to "give it" to the oil companies, then start promoting alternative energies that have nothing to do with oil. That is the first step in taking away the power from the oil companies and cartels. It seems a little odd that the oil companies are keeping the prices high which only pushes people to look for non-oil energies which in turn will drive prices down in the long run if we quit using so much oil. I think Saudi Arabia has jumped into the fray now because they see high prices as biting the hand that feeds you and will destroy their profits in the long run.

There is NO OIL SHORTAGE
Posted:
6/23/2008 1:36:11 PM
OIL is not the answer anymore. WAKE UP PEOPLE! If you look at the world economy and the demand for oil, we as a world CANNOT keep up with demand anymore. Especially if you look at how fast China and India are growing. China is expected to have 400 MILLION cars on their roads within a few years. The demand for oil is at a peak where we will not be able to keep up with demand because of developing countries who are modeling their infrastructures after the U.S.
This issue is not about "tree huggers" (what's so bad about saving the planet that you live on??) or between Republicans and Democrats. For those that only think in those terms and that oil is the ONLY answer are over simplifying the worlds problems. Its about the rest of the worlds oil demands catching up to ours. Oil is a finite resource and will cost BILLIONS of dollars to try and find more oil in the future to meet the demands of the world. Why not spend those BILLIONS on other technologies to power our future? Humans are very resourceful and we have the smarts to find other methods for powering our future. If we can land a man on the moon, we surely can find technologies that will replace oil for our future energy needs.
If we drill for more oil and lets say that we find enough oil to alleviate the current situation and the prices for gas drop back to "normal" price ranges. We will begin to drive our big SUVs again and the auto industry will forget about making higher mileage cars and everything will be forgotten again. In 30 years, we will be in the SAME SITUATION as we are today! We already went through this nearly 40 years ago and here we are again...are we doomed to repeat history or are we going to be responsible enough to make our children's lives better? I'm hoping for the latter!!

Iran as bad as Bin Laden - killing US troops
Posted:

I truly believe Iran is "interfering" with the Iraq occupation by U.S. forces. Let's think about this logically. Iran certainly has a stake on how things turn out in the region. Iraq is their neighbor and will be directly affected by the result of the war. I believe Iran is meddling in hopes that the U.S. fails in their bid to create a democracy in the Middle East simply because if it succeeds, the next U.S. President (if he/she is cut from the same cloth as the neocons) may use the Iraq model to justify invading Iran on another nation building agenda. In my eyes and opinion, this is why Iran does not want Bush's agenda to succeed.

As far as things I'm not fond of is those nasty little critters called SPIDERS. I hate them with a passion!

What was so great about JFK

>I went to school when there was prayer and Bible's in class and years later school were in the hole.
I'm all for removing organized religion from schools and from government. I believe in God but don't believe in any organized religion. Why should I be subject to Christianity when going to school? I go to school for learning and not religion. My belief in God is personal and I keep it outside of work and school. Let's not fool ourselves, the majority of today's problems is linked directly to organized religion. Promoting Christianity over Islam in the fight against terrorism, is like fighting fire with fire.
The U.S. is a great country because of our fair and balanced Constitution which should trump any religious doctrine out there. If we allow the Bible to govern our policies and laws of this country, how would we be any better than a Muslim country governed solely on the Koran? Organized religion has two MAJOR flaws....MAN and his EGO.

>You can not take one mans right for over a 1oo years and say you no longer have that right when the will of the people say leave it alone.
So you're saying the civil rights movement was wrong? Kennedy and MLK were at the forefront of trying to change a gross miswrong of our countries history. If the will of the people always had their way in this country, we would still have slavery and women would still be treated as second class citizens. Is that the country you want to live in?
Sometimes a president has to be brave enough to confront a wrong even if the people's will are against it. However in saying that, Kennedy's fight in the civil rights movement did not take rights away from Americans but rather granted the same rights to minorities who were treated less than equal.

I'm puzzled as to the point of this thread? Is this just a Kennedy bashing thread to try and take some of the heat off the current administration's failings? Kennedy may have not been a saint (but how many Presidents really are?) but he gave hope to minorities during the civil rights movement and was brave enough to confront the bigots in the south who did not believe in equal rights. He also stood up to the Soviets when they tried to arm Cuba with nuclear weapons. The problem with this "what if" thread, we will never know how his Presidency would have played out since his life was cut short.

Fired for tasering pregnant woman
Posted:
1/4/2008 10:57:16 AM
Tasers are being WAY OVERUSED by police as a weapon of convenience instead of a weapon of responsibility. Police are trained to handle all kinds of situations without having to restort to tasers. So why aren't they using tactics they are trained in? Laziness? Incompetence? Combination of both?
After many negative stories in the press lately about tasering incidents, you'd think police would think twice about using them (especially the one about the Polish man visiting his mother who died from a tasering in Canada). I can see this opening up many lawsuits against Police departments in the wrong use of tasers. I'm all for tasers as long as they are used in the way they were intended.
In the case of this woman being tasered, I just can't believe the police would taser her over this incident because she was not posing a threat to the officers. I'm glad to see there is some accountability in the use of them with some officers being fired.

Benazir Bhutto assassinated
Posted:
12/30/2007 1:18:11 PM
After 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan was started, I pictured strong cooperation with bordering countries such as Pakistan and the U.S. military in rooting out Al Qaida and Taliban elements in the mountain regions. I saw this support as including American, Afghan and Pakistani troops teaming up on raid operations and patrolling these regions vigorously. If our priority in the war on terror was Al Qaida and the Taliban instead of Iraq, Musharraf would have been more empowered to help us fight these extreme groups that are now infiltrating his country and slowly turning it into a Talbian state. I feel he would be more in control of his country and his popularity among moderate Pakinstani's would be higher.
Musharraf's hands are tied on trying to hit back too hard on radicals in extreme regions of the country. He doesn't have the support of the people plus he doesn't have the backing of the U.S. military in case conflicts with these groups get out of control. He is walking a fine line between a democracy and a dictatorship. I think he's doing a great job considering what he's up against. I really think he wants Pakistan to be a free country based on democratic principles but he's trying to root out all the extreme elements before he opens up the country to those principles.
Let's hope he can figure out a way to do that without allowing the radicals to take over and/or turning Pakistan into a hardcore dictatorship.

Benazir Bhutto assassinated
Posted:
12/29/2007 1:30:15 AM
I was shocked but not surprised to hear of Benazir's assassination. I really thought she brought hope to many Pakistani's and absolutely believe Mushuraff needed her in the fight against terrorism. Let's hope that Musharaff can hold the country together during this turbulent time. Musharaff is the only thing standing between the Islamic radicals/Taliban and control of the country and its nuclear arsenal of weapons. Musharaff may not be the most ideal leader for the U.S. government to support but the other choice is a no brainer.
I just wish all of the resources that have been poured into Iraq the last 5 years would have been used in Afghanistan where the real war on terror was and still is our main threat. Al Qaida and the Taliban have been making somewhat of a comeback in Afghanistan and are now using the same tactics that insurgents have been using in Iraq. I truly believe if we had the resources in Afghanistan that we are currently using in Iraq, we would have Al Qaida on the run and possibly would have captured or killed Osama Bin Laden by now. We would also have built a closer relationship with Pakistan with strong cooperation in efforts of hunting Al Qaida and Taliban in the border regions.
I hope people realize how fragile that region is right now and it's in our best interests to promote as much stability as we can in Pakistan. Without stability in Pakistan and if the radicals take over, there is a very distinct possibility of setting in motion a chain of events that could lead to another world war.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bhutto family, the people of Pakistan and that sensible people can make choices that lead to stability.

I personally am against and always have been against the Iraq war because they were not the ones that attacked our country. I would have a problem being sent to Iraq if my desire to join the milirary was to fight Al Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan. That being said, I would refuse to go to Iraq based on what I believe is a unjust war but I would face the consequences of my choices instead of choosing to run north of the border.

Another funny quote! We lost 50,000 troops in Vietnam! You call that being up 85-0 in the 4th quarter?! Yes the American people support the troops but I for one, DO NOT support this administration and their policies. They have shown time and again they are inept, careless, ignorant, arrogant, and plain stupid when it comes to decisions that affect our country. I wouldn't let this administration plan a birthday party for me.

This is too funny...I guess this is the official excuse now of why after 6 years Bin Laden remains free and in charge of Al Qaida. If I remember correctly, after 9/11, GWB first priority was to capture Bin Laden and to take down Al Qaida. "deserving no special attention except for being a mass murderer"?! This is exactly why our resources should be out to get him and his organization. We have conveniently forgotten why the war on terrorisim was started. Because of the quagmire in Iraq that we created, the government now has to trick the American people into believing that Iraq and Saddam was responsbile for 9/11 instead of keeping the pressure on the true terrorists that attacked our country.

Winning what?! We are losing the war on terrorism because of foolish decisions by the current administration on how to fight terrorism. Let's see, we invade Iraq and oust Saddam instead of hunting down Osama Bin Laden and Al Quaida in Afghanistan. We create the world's biggest terrorist country by invading Iraq and without Saddam in power anymore, Al Qaida now moves fairly freely in Iraq where before they were never in Iraq. We empower Iran by getting rid of the Iraq government who were a balancing power in the Middle East to Iran. Now there is no balancing power in the Middle East against Iran. We ignore the real fight in Afghanistan and now the most dangerous country in the world is it's neighbor to its East in Pakistan. If Mushurraf and Bhutto fail to bring democracy to Pakistan, then Al Quaida, the Taliban, and extreme Islamic fundamentalists will run a country with nuclear weapons. Hmmm, absolutley we are winning....

Here we go again: Fires in Southern California.......
Posted:
10/23/2007 10:18:15 PM
I live in Clairemont (suburb of San Diego) which is about 5 miles from Pacific Beach. So far so good in my area. A fire started last night around Tierrasanta only about 6 miles from here but they managed to put it out fairly quickly. The big fires are to the north and to the south of us and sporadic small ones here and there. My heart goes out to all the people who have lost homes. I have friends who have been evacuated but know one that I know so far has lost anything...thank God!
The wildfires of Oct 2003 came much closer to us than this year's fires but I have to say the fires this year seem much worse. I didn't think I'd ever see wildfires like 2003 again especially only 4 years after. I want to thank all the people sending prayers and thoughts our way. You can never have enough in times like these. They are very much appreciated!

Al Sharpton vs NY Knicks
Posted:
10/8/2007 6:04:11 PM
>And why is it ok for a black man to call a black woman a b!tch, but not a white
>man, or asian, or indian, or middle eastern...
This is what Isiah Thomas had said in a segment that was taped. This is not something that Al Sharpton agrees on. Just trying to clarify the story if there is any confusion.
What I don't understand is why Isiah didn't get fired over this case. He works for the New York Knicks and was taken to court for sexual harassment. I don't know about you but if I was accused of sexual harassment at my company and I was found guilty, I would definitely lose my job since it's against company policy. Do the New York Knicks not have a sexual harassment policy? Also, regardless of whether blacks call each other names or not in a joking manner on the job, there shouldn't be any place for this in a work environment...period. Isiah found out why it shouldn't take place. All it takes is for one person to complain and this is the result. Plus, everybody should be treated equal in a work environment regardless of color or race.
Now I'm not a big Al Sharpton fan but I have to commend him for not turning a blind eye to what he thinks is wrong for a black man to call a black woman. He is making a case of sticking up for women and black women in particular and not just singling out injustices of the white community against the black community. Maybe his purpose is expanding now to include all people when it comes to injustices.

Environmentalist Reject Nuclear Power
Posted:
9/11/2007 4:01:32 PM
The problem with nuclear power is that it has catastrophic dangers if something goes wrong. It's not like a tanker explosion or something that is containable and can be cleaned up, relatively speaking, in short order. Nuclear technology has lasting consequences of hundreds of years. I'm not saying their aren't any good benefits to come from nuclear energy but when you have a technology that can kill like no other technology, it's better to find an alternative.
Ask the people who survived Hiroshima and Nagasaki on their thoughts of anything nuclear. We opened up pandora's box when nuclear technology was invented and thrust upon the world. It's now up to us to see that it never gains acceptance worldwide.

Mexican trucks in the U.S
Posted:
9/11/2007 3:47:24 PM
I am big advocate of a capitalistic society and love the stock market but I also believe in responsible capitalism and not jeopardizing our nations highways and loss of jobs for a few more dollars of profit for American corporations. As far as Mexican safety standards go, have you seen what types of vehicles are driven in Mexico? I don't mean to put down Mexicans or their country but their standards for safety do not measure up to American standards. It's that simple. I live in San Diego and I see what types of unsafe vehicles are on the roads in Baja California. I'm not willing to put my life or lives of other Americans in danger because of unsafe Mexican trucks hauling cargo on our highways. Also, I'm getting to the point that all of this "outsourcing" by American companies is starting to do more damage to this country than we think. Our corporate leaders only see short term profits and nothing else and can't see beyond the next quarters profit earnings statements.
Do we really want to "gut" our trucking industry by allowing cheap labor in unsafe vehicles to deliver our goods so American companies can squeeze out every little bit of profit there is? I SAY NO!

AngelNurse,
Bottom line...that guy was a scumbag and that's an understatement! I've talked to other women who have had dates with men that just "don't get it". No wonder men like him are single and he's lucky her son wasn't home. I'm not going to judge on whether you should have invited him over to your place but, like you, I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and trust people are good.
However, in your case, I would report this loser to the authorities and get him banned on POF and any other site he frequents. He obviously doesn't know how to treat a woman and he needs to be singled out and exposed for what he really is and to prevent him maybe actually raping somebody in the future.
Sorry to hear about your horrible experience but hopefully you can learn from it and prevent anything like this happening to you in the future. Don't give up on all men though. There are still a few good ones out there.

You have every right to accept somebody or not, but if you look at the history of our GREAT country, our government, for the most part, had to make controversial decisions that don't always jive with the public sentiment at times. I'm guessing when this country freed slaves, it wasn't a very popular decision for most Americans at the time, but in order for this democracy to flourish, in my eyes, our government had to do the right thing and prove our Constitution and our preached way of life wasn't seen as hypocritical. We had to put our money where our mouth was! You cannot preach freedom when you don't practice it!
The rights of gays is seen in the same light to me. God will be the judge in the end and we shouldn't be the ones to judge whether the gay lifestyle is right or wrong. That is not up to us to decide...only God. However, we shouldn't forget that this country was founded on a principle of freedom of choice for EVERYBODY....not the select few that is considered "accepted". This "acceptance" has now been fought in this country for blacks, minorities, women, and now gays. The fight in each case has always been strongly opposed but in the end, our government has done the right thing and enforced our Constitutional rights and strengthened the principles behind which it stands. And that is why I am a supporter of gay rights...and like to point out the discrimination against others.

Church Denies Gay Veteran Funeral Service

Boy you're a real treat! Let me ask you this, if you were in combat and a "gay" person saved your life, would you spit on that person or thank them? How about if you had a life threatening surgery and found out that your doctor was gay, would you allow that person to operate on you? Or how would you handle if the doctor refused to operate on you because of your hate towards him/her?
I've met many gay people in my life and they are good people compared to the so called righteous people that claim they are better than they are.

Unfortunately, in many organized religions, it's nothing more than organized racism and discrimination with selective hate. I don't allow ANY organized religion to try and tell me how to worship and praise God. It's just one's man agenda trying to warp mine. I have a personal relationship with God and I accept all good people.
I'm not saying the church doesn't have good people because they do. However, for those who claim to "speak" for God and spew hate in their message, well, they will have to answer to God eventually but I wish more people in the church would rise up and reject the message of hate from those in power instead of blindly following their every word like sheep.

Will Fred Thompson Run On The GOP Ticket

My problem with the flip flopping is that most candidates seem to flip flop just to please the people they are speaking to at the moment and deny that they ever was on the other end of an issue. CHRIST! Make up your mind and tell the people what you believe in, regardless of whether they like it or not. At least we know what side of an issue you stand on and if you stand on an opposing view of mine, then give me a compelling reason why y0u believe in what you do instead of the canned responses and sound bites that all these candidates seem to be full of!
Only people I'd really want to see run and I would vote for would be either Colin Powell, Arnold Schwarznegger (can't run because he's not American born) or Al Gore. Even a Powell/Gore or Gore/Powell ticket sound very appealing to me. Since none of them are running, I'm leaning towards Obama right now.

Barry Bonds... Hate Him or Hate Him
Posted:
7/30/2007 9:16:43 PM
I believe Barry did steroids. However, he isn't the only one to blame here. I would bet that half the league was doing steroids beginning in the mid to late 80's up until the late 90's to early 2000's. What is a shame is that the commissioner and everybody connected to baseball knew players were doing it and did NOTHING about it. Bud Selig has to accept just as much blame as the players who did steroids.
I feel there is a double standard in baseball right now. Everybody is after Bonds but you hear nothing about other players who may have done steroids. Except for Jose Canseco, no other player has admitted to doing steroids.
If baseball wants to clean up its image, then they should do something about it. They should make steroid testing mandatory for ALL PLAYERS beginning NOW. All players must be tested within 30 days and then after that, mandatory testing once a month but on a random basis so no player knows when it's their time. If players are caught, they are banned for the rest of the season. A 2nd violation they are banned for LIFE. That would stop steroids once and for all.
The "asterisk" home run record that Barry will claim in a few days will carry the weight of not only Barry himself but of the owners and commissioner of baseball as well. But within 10 years, his record will be broken by ARod so it's not going to last very long as it is.

Granted she was involved in some pretty shady stuff in the 80's but I have a hard time thinking bad about her. She was very eccentric and kooky, but she seems very geniune and accepting of other people compared to others involved in organized religion. I think she was a good woman.

Blacksheep, I totally agree with you on this!! This is just another example why the Bush administration makes me sick! This case is pure politics. I bet if those border agents were white and had connections to men in power, they would be freed in no time. The Border Patrol should go on strike over this case and put the onus on the President where it belongs and how he only looks out for his own administration and covering up all the misdeeds performed during his two terms in office.

This was not a surprise. I'm just surprised he didn't fully pardon him to begin with but I suspect he will pardon him as one of his last acts in office. I believe Bush was hoping the appeal process was going to take longer and would keep Libby out of prison while the process worked itself through the courts. However, since it didn't, I feel Bush commuted his sentence to protect his own arse. Since Libby definitely has information that could incriminate both Cheney and himself, Libby may have "spilled" the beans if he had to spend time in prison.
Libby is just the fall guy for all the cover ups and criminal behaviors of the Bush administration. The secrets of this administration are slowly starting to unravel and reveal themselves to the American people. This is the WORST administration by far, that has run our country, in my lifetime. And FYI, I'm not a left wing liberal...

Environmentalist Reject Nuclear Power

I hope we as humans, do not accept Nuclear power as an alternative energy replacement. We reap what we sow. We have to get the country and the world excited about new clean energy technologies and create a new industry that could result in an economic boom for the U.S. with the world playing catch up. The U.S. has a strong history of inventing, creating, perfecting, and improving cutting edge technologies throughout the last 200 years. Let's get a jump on other countries and be the leader in this emerging industry.

What about a blowup girlfriend? At least if he's rejected again, he can punch and kick the bejesus out of it and it won't be hurting anybody.
Definitely not enforceable. The judge should have at least have him attend anger management or some type of self-esteem counseling or both.

Man gets 10 yrs for oral sex

Wow sweetie, when I was in high school, it was very common for seniors to date freshman and sophomores. To me, not much has changed, only the prevailing attitudes towards sex among teens. They are both minors and the sex was consensual and dating in high school is a part of American life.
It's amazing some of the laws that this country enacts and when they finally correct those laws by using a little common sense, we still have prosecutors who are not using common sense in their pursuit when appealing this case.

Yeah I never really liked him too much. I thought his views were very bigoted and racist and he gave religion a bad name. He's one of the many reasons why I'm so turned off from organized religion even though I do believe in God. However, I do not wish to find any happiness in his death. My prayers are with his family. I hope he is now with his savior and he now knows the real truth about the true Love of God.

Wow, this case disgusts me! As an American and someone who does believe in God, I'm appalled by the lies and the pure bigotry displayed by "God loving Christians" in the name of their faith to discriminate so blatantly against someone who doesn't follow their religion! This is exactly why I turn my back on organized religions of all faiths because of the hyprocrisy that all religions display. I love my country and I also love my God. But my God doesn't turn away anybody. I think people would do good by getting rid of the middleman (i.e., organized religion) and deal directly with God.
God is a personal thing with me and I have no need to make a political or patriotic statement with my faith. This is why I so strongly believe in a secular nation because that is the only way to truly govern with even handedness without condemning somebody for what they do or do not believe in.

I agree that Israel is the common denominator in the equation affecting true peace in the middle east. The U.S. needs to take more of a hardline stance against the Israeli's because they are just as arrogant as some of the Arab nations when trying to find a common ground for peace. We cater too much to Israel and back everything they do when, in reality, they cause a lot of the hate and turmoil that is aimed at them. If the U.S. demanded the same compromises that we expect from the Arab nations from Israel, I truly think peace would have a real chance in the middle east. Or we can invest in alternative energy sources, as a nation, to take away our dependence on oil (which truly is the reason why we care about that region) and let them battle it out without having to risk our military troops in a quagmire that can't be solved until both the Israeli's and Arabs figure out whether they can live together.

Clinton would have taken down the Taliban regime and put the resources in Afghanistan to wipe out Al Quaida. He would NOT have toppled Iraq and caused us to lose focus on our true enemy and take away all our resources on one of the most ill-conceived wars of any President we have ever had.

>Do you ever play the CardGame of Poker? Its called Bluffing....
Yes I have played poker but only chips are at stake. We have no bluff anymore because most countries in the world know we cannot support a 3rd war especially when the American people are already against the Iraq war.
See, what You Don't understand is that without "Their knowledge" of "Our willingness" to Use the POWER that IS backing up the US..
Diplomacy without Big Balls is an "Empty Threat"..
>That is why I'm Glad people like YOU aren't running this country!
Hey I agree with you, I wouldn't want the job either! lol. But if I was, being a former military member myself, I would not drag the U.S. into an ill-conceived war taking us away from our true enemy...Al Quaida and putting the lives of our troops into a situation they cannot win. I was against the war even before it began because my instincts told me it was not going to go smooth and would end up being another Vietnam.
>They only understand Power, and the willingness to use it.
It takes real diplomacy and genuine efforts to convince the average Arab/Persian to live in peace. Nobody said it's easy given the history of that region but Carter convinced the Egyptians and Israelis to play nice and guess what...30 years later, they are still at peach with each other.

Hmmm, I find it interesting that Pelosi is being attacked for exactly what a delegation of GOP congressmen did just a week earlier. They visited Syrian leaders to talk peace and to address the Hezbollah issue. That visit also was not sanctioned by the White House but hardly a peep was heard about it. I personally feel that the Bush administration has no clue on diplomacy and our Congress is starting to force the issue with or without his blessing. Pelosi was welcomed in the Arab world with open arms as a sign of hope whereas the Bush camp is no longer trusted in the Arab world.
Bush and Cheney are too stubborn and their thinking is VERY OLD when it comes to fostering peace in the Middle East. Condi Rice, I believe, is doing her best but is hamstrung by her own administration. Robert Gates is the only one I feel uses common sense. In his short time as Defense Secretary, he has pushed aside Cheney (where a VP really belongs is the background) and has started pushing strongly for a diplomatic approach to the Middle East and the Iraq War. He has convinced Condi that diplomacy is the key to winning the war in Iraq and has started pushing this agenda. This is why we now see the U.S. starting to talk to Syria and Iran directly. However, this approach is doomed to failure because Bush has not strongly encouraged and backed this strategy. The quicker we get Bush out of office the better.
Even though I hate to see Congress circumvent the President in foreign relations, I don't think we have much choice because our current President certainly is trying very hard.

CountrySlim,
After reading your posts, I'm sure as hell glad that you aren't running this country. All you know is violence and intimidation instead of diplomacy and reaching out to other countries. Yes Iran was wrong in taking those Brits hostage but it's not enough to cause the start of WWIII. Yes, our military could deliver a powerful blow to Iran's government but then what?! Iran's government falls and then who takes over? My bet is even a more radical government than they have now. A even more evil Iran takes its place and now becomes Iraq II. Hmmm, sounds like a grand plan to me.
As far as your comment on the 290+million people in the USA, you don't take into consideration how many Americans would support going to war with Iran. Pick up a newspaper and see how many Americans currently support the Iraq war and how many support Bush. Not many my friend. To support a war with Iran would require the draft to be reinstituted and I'm sure there would be massive anti-war demonstrations in this country if that were to happen (flashback to the 60's and count me in on those protests) PLUS Congress would never allow the Bush administration to go to war with Iran. The bottom line, it would be VERY STUPID to go to war with Iran without thinking about the aftermath (hmmmm, sounds like a war already in progress). Think with your mind instead of your anatomy that resides below your waist.

I don't know all the details on this case but if I came home one night and found my wife being "raped", my first reaction would be to kill the man who is trying to harm my wife. Now I'm not saying this is what happened in this case, but if it did happen this way, I have no problems with the husband killing the man.
