Tiim Horton's vs Starbucks
Posted:
12/18/2007 9:37:22 PM
Ahem....
I worked in a 3 1/2 star restaurant for years.
A professional waiter took care of a table of 8
for 3+ hours.
Total bill before taxes, $2 000 + dollars.
Tip = $ 7.00
Lost his tip when one of the 'guests' ordered a
$ 200.00 bottle of dessert wine.
THIS WAS A PRO WAITER.
Not some one that works at a coffee shop, although...
kudos to you for managing to maintain such a
professional job under such 'conditions'.
Y'all can read read whatever you want into that
last word.
The service industry is a biotch.....
althougth, my first order as a service bartender was
$ 2.50 for a 'Keets'.... go figure.
Tipping is indescriminant and tempermental.
When you're a pro in the biz... goes with the territory.
Still remember the name of the skraggs that left
that $ 7.00 tip...................
Might be willing to name names if the ' TIP' is right.....
Nahhhhhhhhh, everyone in the HRM knows their families name.....

' Volounteered'?
Any member of the military I know did this thing called... ahem...
APPLIED. Yes, it's a job to them and they applied for
a 'job'.
Same as anyother, but still a job and lifestyle they chose
not only for themselves but their families.
I have yet to talk to any of them that wish they had
any other job.
They love our country and are willing to suffer the sacrfice
that may bring......

* this joke told with fond memories of my Halifax bus pass*
This drunken man gets on a bus late one night , staggers up the aisle and
sits next to an elderly woman.
She looks the man up and down and tells him,
"You're going straight to hell!"
The man jumps up out of his seat and shouts,
"MAN! I'm on the wrong bus!!!!"

Exactly my point, TG1515
If doing volounteer work....... at some point doesn't volounteering
allow you to see the bigger picture... then the 'gain'
means little in the long run.
Volounteering to me involves giving of yourself and your time...
it in no way should reflect on what a good person you are.
If you are a good person to begin with, most of us will give and not expect
some sort of reward.
In reflection, I guess that is what I was getting at initially........
Do something for another and not expect anything in return.
Hmmmmm...... I think my Mom and Dad taught me that.

SNOW!!!
Posted:

Snow sucks????
Not likely.
Ask anyone who operates a farm, orchard, blueberry field, etc.
Snow is unlike rain which at this time of year would be
considered runoff and a loss of moisture for crops
this summer. In the world of climate change I would think
we should be grateful for this weather.
It may seem unseasonal, then again for anyone who has lived in the
Maritimes for ( seems like eons ) the better part of their lives.....
remember the 'Big Ice " in until mid May? (lobster season, '99).
Remember back 20 yrs or so?
Yeah... I walked uphill both ways to school kneedeep
in snow until graduation.
Anyhoo, get out and make a snowan and turn your
computers off and live in the real world.

If you take time out of your day to volounteer
at whatever level, kudos to you.
Volounteering is a wonderful way to express how
much you value your fellow human beings.
I still wonder what the value it is of giving high school
children 'credits' for volounteering.
That just seems wrong to me, only does volounteering
become a true gesture of the heart and being when
nothing is expected in return / to be gained in the long run.
Just my thought...

As in any profession, there will always those that
feel the need to 'pad the bill'.
Ever check your restaurant/ bar bill
and find you've been overcharged?
What troubles me the most is when someone
in a position of trust , (in this case your vet) takes
advantage of you when the only thing on your mind
is your pet's health.
Oh...... and don't get me started on Morticians
selling you a coffin to put your loved one to rest.

Mundane, you think?
Only if you are not planning to visit Colorado.
Let me just say, atmospheric pressure does strange things....
I'm not sure which was more frightening...
-the *bang* when the bag burst
-the cascade of potato chips
-finding chip crumbs in my bra (yes, I had one on)
-reason for purchasing chips in Canada... We all know they don't
sell potato chips in America

Exactly, Polly...
these are for the most part or in whole reasons why myself
and g/fs regret some of our decisions concerning birth control.
Really, how many of us really read and fully understood those
inserts printed in tiny letters that were enclosed with

How is it then that these .01% of users can start some many

So true, tallgirl
I know people that now regret taking the pill when they
were younger, I can't imagine how they would feel if they
had made the sterilization decision. Each person has their
individual choices that they will later be held accountable for
and it's really tough when you sit down and say, Hey.... I'm the
only one responsible for that screw up/ poor decision.
Childbearing is one of the greatest gifts given to us... not to
be taken lightly at any stage of our lives.
The saying, " 18 and bulletproof" always seems to pop into
my mind when topics, ( although perhaps not such hot button issues)
such as this are discussed. The 18 could just as well be 8, 28, 38, etc.
For example,
8- I can do that trick on my horse, I saw it done on TV
-g/f broke her arm attempting to ride her pony backwards, bad idea
18- I'll partake in unprotected sex, I know what I'm doing.
-another friend was a Mom at 19, bad idea in her circumstances
28- I think I'm done having children, I'm having my tubes-tied.
- wow, I'm on my second marriage and would love to share a child with my husband
38- I think I would like to have children now that I have established myself and am secure.
- oops, I think I left it a bit late and my best option now is to adopt
It's heartbreaking to look back at these decisions that we were so sure of at
one stage of our lives and realize how different things could be if
we had only known what the future held for us.
Hindsight is truly 20/ 20.

One day, three men are out having a relaxing day of fishing, when suddenly
they catch a mermaid. After hauling the mermaid up in a net, she
promises that if the men set her free, she will grant each of them a wish
in return. The first man doesn't believe it, so he says, "Alright, if you
can really grant wishes, then double my IQ." The mermaid says,
"Done," and suddenly the first man starts to flawlessly recite
Shakespeare and analyze it with extreme insight.
The second man is so amazed, he looks at the mermaid and says,
"Triple my IQ." The mermaid says, "Done," and the second man starts
to recite soloutions to mathematical problems that have been stumping
all of the scientists in various fields from phsics to chemistry, etc.
The third man is so enthralled with the changes in his friends, he says
to the mermaid: "Quintuple my IQ." The mermaid looks at him and says,
"You know, I don't normally try to change people's minds when
they make a wish, but I really wish you would reconsider." The man
responds, "Nope, I want you to increase my IQ times five, and if you
won't do it, I won't set you free." "Please," said the mermaid "You don't
know what you are asking, it'll change your entire view on the universe.
Won't you ask for something else, a million dollars, or anything?"
But no matter what the mermaid said, the third man insisted on having his IQ
increased by five times it's usual power. So the mermaid finally relented
and said, "Done."
The third man became a woman.

Vasectomies are most often done in a Doctor's office
and are considered a minimally invasive procedure with the patient
able to leave and return to work etc. within 24 hours.
Hysterectomies involve your Doctor booking the
operating room and having nurses, anesthesiologists
etc. present while the patient undergoes what can be
a life threatening surgery.
Anytime a person is under anesthesthetic there is always
the chance they may not awaken from the anesthetic,
let alone having abdominal surgery and the risks that involves.
There is no opportunity for the female to choose to have a
reversal whereas the male does retain the possibility.
If I were a man presented with these options.... I would hope that
I would choose the vasectomy and not put my wife's life in danger.
diclaimer:I believe this would also apply to having your ' tubes tied', in
such case there would exist possibility of a reversal.

Boats to Build
Guy Clark
It's time for a change
I'm tired of that same ol same
the same ol words same ol lines
the same ol tricks and the same of rhymes
Days precious days
roll in and out like waves
I got boards to bend I got planks to nail
I got charts to make I got seas to sail
Chorus
I'm gonna build me a boat
with these two hands
it'll be a fair curve
from a noble plan
let the chips fall where they will
cause I've got boats to build
Sails are just like wings
the wind can make them sing
songs of life songs of hope
songs to keep your dreams afloat
Chorus
Shores distant shores
there's where I'm headed for
got the stars to guide my way
sail into the light of day
Chorus
disclaimer : sexy when with the right 'sailor'

Things are looking terrific for this outing!!!
Was wondering if anyone was aware that the Ontario PoF
may have set a Guinness World Record for the largest
speed dating event in history last weekend???
Seems Bigfish and the organizers will be receiving GWR
Awards along with all confirmed attendees at an all expenses
paid New Years Party once the record is confirmed, woo hoo!!!
Best of luck to all those PoFers... even if it turms out they were
just 'brave in the attempt' , quite an accomplishment!!!!
With the bracelets being used this weekend we should be able
to have an accurate count... no doubt this will be our largest
ever... heck, lets just give ourselves awards at a future get together
Take care and lets have a blast!

Many feel that conception occurs when sperm meets egg,
therefor both "pills" are equivilant.

Too funny...... I was in my hometown when the
Stanley Cup made it's visit... nothing holsome about
drinking a Keith's out of it.... but it was fun and
an incredible moment, enjoy our trophy, Wayne.
How many more days til we can get in the " corners
of PoF " and bang you Americans around til we have
Stanley back home?

^^^^^ agree with both, although you may not post,
there are some very strong/ individualistic posters that you
admire for their outspokedness/ style of posting/ their reflective
thoughts or general knowledge of a subject that causes you to
reflect and look at the topic from a different perspective.
It's very refreshing to look at some topics from a different
perspective and gain insight in the process.

^^^^ absoloutely, kursk..... it has, in my opinion
a certain 'look' that tats seem to lack..... and
the fact that they can be done over in different areas
and designs lends them to much more creative/exotic
to the wearer.
