My Boyfriend...
Posted:

I don't know, Simon.
What puzzled me originally, was the fact that even without me initializing a flirt, they would just randomly bring up the fact that they were involved with someone. And it wasn't just puzzling, sometimes I find it even rude; perspective, of course, I've been single for such a long time that even just the 'rate' that random women would casually mentioned it, I would become mildly frustrated. lol
Edits: @ Landra2
I don't think it's a shame. I love an interesting conversation with someone new. Unfortunately though, i've *always* been terrible at reading women. Is this shameful? I guess it is. Should I be ashamed? I don't. In fact, I think I just proved i'm not by posting. So, what's wrong with me?

"My Boyfriend..."
Posted:

I'm in the mall shopping with my sister (she has incredible fashion sense, I don't) a couple weeks ago..
Enter Shoe Store.. the clerk getting my pairs to try on gets flirty. We get to the check out, and she says, "Oh yea, i'm getting my boyfriend the ones with the gray stripes.."
Enter Jean Store.. the clerk mentions that her "... boyfriend won't even buy jeans from this place."
Enter random Convenience Store.. the clerk, after commenting on my choice of selected nerdy magazine says "... i'm trying to get my boyfriend to read that kind of stuff, and get trimmed up."
Bearing in mind that I hear random women randomly metion "their boyfriend" to perfect strangers... my question for you ladies is..
1: what is the real purpose of this?
2: is it a form of defensive flirting?
3: is it purely hesitation?
This single occasion is not the first time that women have done this in my presence, and i'm just curious as to what is really going through their minds when they say it.
Thanks!

1: Can't offer any advice here. Personalities vary. I don't have a sweet tooth, and this mesomorphic body has difficult time putting on weight unless i am on a gaining routine.
2: Naked. Ladies.
3: Go to an overall wellness centre; where they will pay close attention to your current state of being, past injuries and tailor a regiment for you personally. You can try all the wonderful suggestions on here, posted by learned individuals, but honestly, you're best to just spend a couple bucks, and get professional help.
Now, if you didn't have past injuries, I would greatly consider the feedback mentioned in this thread.
Best of luck. Be safe.

Great responses guys. I will put something together, try it out for a bit, and see how it goes.
As for my diet, I am eating at least double the value of my weight in protein isolates, taking glutamine supplements (tried creatine, not working out well) and focussing heavily on bioenergetic foods.

Do you believe in Astrology?
Posted:

It's fun to read the horoscopes every now and then, but like a friend pointed out to me recently, astrology cannot accurately describe the collective behavior of 6 billion + people on this earth. I do not believe the stars affect our lives since there is no physical medium to prove it, aaaand the fact that my horoscope is never right lol.
However, I am the model scorpio.
Some food for thought also:
The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers and diviners to be brought and said to these wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom." Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. (Daniel 5:7-8)

The Destiny of Judas Iscariot
Posted:
8/16/2009 10:47:21 AM
Judas was a member of the zealots ( an insurgency group of that time) even before he was selected as an apostle. JC had to know that. At the time JC was selecting his disciples, he was already endowed with the "holy spirit" that guided him!
As a zealot, he believed that the Messiah was the one figure who could liberate Israel. And he was probably reporting this to his handlers. In his experience with JC, he came to believe that he was the Messiah but he mistakenly felt that JC was an earthly/nationalistic Messiah and would need to enact an armed struggle for the cause.
When he saw that JC was not inclined to do that, he tried to force the hand of Jesus to enact a physical conflict. He felt the best way to do it was to have JC incarcerated and knowing how the pharasees detested JC, he acted as the facilitator by "turning him in".
Judas didn't do that because he himself felt that he was a pivotal figure of prophecy, he did it because he was trying to fulfill his own (zealot) agenda. He didn't mean for JC to be detained and executed, but when it happened he was devastated. He then realized his folly.
In short, Judas pursued his agenda because he didn't have any faith in what JC was saying, if he understood him at all! And it was faith in his own agenda that led to his demise.
JC allowed it to unfold because he was following the will of the "Father" so as to "glorify" Him. JC could have opted out at any time but then he would have disregarded the Father and instantly have fallen in disgrace.
Interesting approach. Thanks for writing this out. Could you please cite the source you obtained this from?

Leg Exercises for Mass
Posted:

Not tone. Not explicit strength. Mass - I need a solid foundation before I start to shape.
My workouts have always lacked a strong leg routine. The largest muscles in my body have been neglected mostly compared to my upper body. Cracking down, I've started up a regiment to address the issue, and am looking for a review, or a couple comments on exercise selection, weight choice, etc.
All comments warmly accepted. Thanks!
Legs Day Go Go
1: Warm-up: 5 mins running @ 60% heart rate
2: Wide Leg Inclined Press (machine): 4 sets @ 10 reps each @ 215 lb
3: Seated Calf Raises (machine): 3 sets @ 12 reps each @ 100 lb
4: Reverse Leg Curl (machine): 3 sets @ 8 reps each @ 80 lb
5: Smith Machine Squats (cooldown): 2 sets @ 12 reps each @ 80 lb
Random Comments:
1: How important are Deadlifts? Are they a strict requirement in leg routines?
2: How important is cardio warm-up prior to leg resistance training?
3: How important are partial reps?

Well said Hibiscus. While I don't agree that religious studies should be removed from our education system entirely, I think the evolutionary modelshould be embraced also.
Anyways, is there a technical term for this model? Having mentioned this concept to a friend recently, I am interested in pursuing it further.
I think God made the world as it is...directing it exactly as science reveals it...

Could someone be so kind to point me towards some online texts which present both the rudiments and advanced concepts of *current* evolutionary theories? I feel so far behind in this branch of science, and want to get caught up. I'm particularly interested in reading about the extact times, settings and timelines which lead to the current realization of our species. Additionally, which species is the oldest known geneological ancestor of man.
Just a couple links would be very useful! Thanks!

How Good Do You Have To Be To Get Into Heaven?
Posted:

My 2cc to the OP:
For the westerners:
1: Embrace the 10 commandments. Interpret them as you will without straying too far from the literal text.
2: Trust in the Universal Moral Laws; which seem to be related to Point 1
3: Read the philosophical journeys of the New Testament, and make a serious attempt at following the guide of Jesus Christ.
Payce!
Last Note:
Many people live in ignorance of the Lord. Specifically in third worlds, etc. I pray that these people will be showed mercy in light of their ignorance. Unfortunately, I am yet to explore my Bible enough to support this idea with scripture.

The "Destiny" of Judas Iscariot
Posted:
8/13/2009 8:52:56 AM
I have reached a difficult time in my faith, where I am analyzing the Bible in ways that I haven't before. I've gotten through a lot of the old testament, bridges to the new testament, but am having difficulty understanding the cause of the death of Jesus.
If a learned scholar would be so kind as to point out some reading material, or some simply just respond to the following, I would be most appreciatie.
My Questions:
1: Did Judas betray Jesus to fulfill prophecies? If so, what does this tell us about the nature of God when examining this passage?
Matthew 26:23
23Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."
Specifically the last line. It leads to an obvious contradiction - if he had never been born at all, would someone else had taken his place as a betrayer? Whose 'destiny' would this have been granted to?
2: Did Jesus encourage the betrayal? Did he even 'ask Judas' to betray him? Was he unable to prevent it from happening in light of the in-context consequences as stated above?
3: Was Judas actually motivated by the money received from the betrayal? Was he not satisfied with the faith teachings of his teaher?
So again, I am looking for outside texts to review or just a full explanation with some supporting arguments to back it up. There seems to be some pretty absurb philosophical inconsistencies with this whole movement, and I really would like to get this one hammered out.
Thanking the community in advance.
Justin

How did God(s) begin?
Posted:

Why do we limit god(s) to within our 4D boundaries?
Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
While that doesn't help, I know, I like to think that God actually does understand the whole duality of body and spirit dealy, and chooses to reside outside of our limitations.
And for those asking to see physical proof of the origin of god(s), explain how you want it to be proven within the concept of an infinite regress?
I just wanted someone to supply some data, any data which justifes the saying "mankind invented God", without referring to similar abstract hypotheses already posted as responses.
Regarding infinite regress, I think this may help a little bit. I jacked it from the person who inspired me to post in this thread originally, because I was curious of the responses. So...
"You realize that IF God created us with a pre-built notion of an "disembodied consciousness with virtually unlimited abilities", we would be EXPECTED to 'come up with' an idea of "god"--as a means for Him/Her/It/They to initiate personal communication with our species, so any argument that we 'learn' the concept of 'god' from culture or we externalize parental roles/powers to an abstract "Thou" will count in support of BOTH theories...

However if you seek proof in terms of the most likely explanation that explains the data, then I'm willing to spend some time and work with you to entertain hypotheses to determine the most likely.
Yea, I would love to see some real data supporting the hypotheses that man did indeed, at some point history invent the idea of god. I have a very open mind, and will consider your position, and change my own if the data supports the hypotheses to a reasonable degree.
Yea, I'll look for a couple reviews on "The Source". *Makes note*
Thanks JustDukky!
But honestly, I have problems with statements like this:
God was begotten by the only ones who needed him to fill a void. Human kind.
Too many times have I been in conversations with atheists who slam down this card, and the conversation just comes to a halt. Nobody learns anything. Nobody progresses towards deeper satisfaction. It seems like I just run into a concrete wall...

So, you said that:
He needed Gods to appease & pray to in order to exert at least the illusion of control over his environment
But then you said...
Impossible...It predates writing, though there are archaeological objects, which we speculate...
So, you can't prove it? Are these archeological objects pre-Egyptian and pre-Mesopotanian? I thought those were the earliest artifacts we've found so far. And by that time, a modern religious mode had already been established. Someone more learned in history correct me here. Or, maybe the fossil-girl could chime in with something clever.
Religion "became" in order to exploit mans fears and control him.
Let's not confuse spirituality and religion. Although as an aside, i'm glad that many I know people have adopted their spirituality, governed under a religious body, and are pleased to say that they are not completely dominated by the religion's requirements. Unfortunately though, I'm still struggling with this!

Thanks for your honest response CourDeLion.
If "God" is a construct of humans, then the first origins of the concept may rest beyond such a point as to make them directly traceable or understandible by modern humans even with considerable exploration and research.
In any event, I want to warn that the inability to answer any of these questions perfectly could not be reasonably interpreted as proof of your position either.
In the event that somebody does actually make that claim, as plain as I laid it out, would this logic be satisfactory to disprove that claim (since they made it in the first place)?
If it is not obvious, I am more concerned with the burden of proof, rather than the actual truth behind the original statement. I should know this, but my debating skills are pretty fail.. lol

Were there previous Gods who created the next one and where did they come from? I hope this is more for Theists who sincerely wish to answer that basic question. This is a sincere inquiry.
This is my hard, fast, sincere response:
Genesis 21:33
Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God.
On the side-topic of atheists who claim that mankind explicitly 'invented' God. Please clear the following up for me.
1: Exactly how did you come to the conclusion that our species did in fact inven God?
2: Please support with historical, archeological data which shows exactly where and when the idea of God (or any gods) were fabricated.
3: Please then indicate a traceable, line of development which would conclude to our understanding of current gods.
I'm looking forward to reviewing your responses.

Quickly moving off-topic. This will be my last post in this thread, since the material I presented was completely ignored in the development of the thread.
<div class="quote">The Bible was written by men. Why do you hold more weight in their words than carbon or radiometric dating of fossils? Why do you shove words into my mouth? Did I ever state I disagreed with the evolutionists story of creation? Did I ever once affirm my belief in the Bibles version of the creation? I was speaking about the extremists. Those who have their own agenda, and use religion as a form of control over a group of people.
<div class="quote">How many pastors are living as equals to his church's members? Mine does. Catholic priests are not supposed to consider themselves "higher" or closer to God than any members of congregation. Their faith is meant to be challenged daily, just like every body elses. They are sinners, and so are we.
<div class="quote">So far, the only group of people providing evidence is the non-believers. The only group of people ignoring the evidence are the believers. If I were provided with evidence that God existed, I would test it for myself. Whoa whoa whoa. Now we're onto proving/disproving the existence of God. My oh my how this thread has evolved so quickly. I have difficulty with the second sentence that you wrote.
Paul said: "Critically examine everything. Hold onto the good." If i wasn't in consideration of all things pertaining to the development of my spirit, I wouldn't even be on this forum. I wouldn't even bother taking the time to respond to this thread. Please, don't group every Christian into the "completely ignorant" category. It's pretty naiive to think that every random Christian you come into contact with has completely ignored cosmological findings, anthropic principle counters and such.

No, I grew up in conflicting churches. SDA, Catholic and non-denominational.
That must've been pretty tough. But, it sounds like you've liberated yourself, and have set yourself on a pretty honorable pathtowards self-truth. I grew up in a moderately disciplined Catholic house, with very little room for personal, spiritual exploration. Coming to terms with *everything* about the faith I've been living for the last 23 years is both challenging and interesting. But, we're all at different points in our journeys, and will get there one day.
The idea of religion, especially modernized, bothers me for many reasons. Guiding the religious pays well, being religious is costly.
Some organized religions bother me too. I mentioned the Westborogh's in the previous post. Any group that misuses or manipulates scripture to their own purposes is taking the easy way out of understanding the faith journey. And I will also agree on your last statement, but remembering that organized religion, when funded, also serves as an excellent tool for bringing people together in a community, and strengthening spirituality with God.
Now I'm curious. Will this thread ever have an ending? Was the material presented sufficient enough for the OP, or someone of similar position to accept? Because I am new to PoF forums, do threads like this ever get resolved? Is it even possible to assume that those participants in the thread do not even come with an open mind, where upon review of 'evidence' change their opinion?
Thanks for the response!

18 Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now. 19 Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every man and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.
He says, listen to me, or I will wipe out your livestock. Does that sound merciful to you?
As I pointed out in my previous post, such divine justice seemed to be not only the appropriate course of action, but a 'duty' of a shephard to preserve his flock. If this had not happened, would Israel, God's chosen people and entire future of communication with humanity survived? Even then, the above quote seems more like a fair warning before the coming storm. Additionally, this was a response to something. An atrocity committed against Israel, perhaps?
However, I will give this to you; because I am certainly not a theologian. I am wrestling with the fact that there is very little mercy in the OT. It is difficult, but through prayer, and perhaps some smart people on these forums, i'll get there.
16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?' 31 "You shall not behave thus toward the Lord your God, for every abominable act which the Lord hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. (Deut 12)
The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates.(Ps 11.5)
"For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity. (Is 61.8)
I added a couple more to establish a very important pattern. The Lord seems to hate treachory, violence, cruelty, deceit, etc. Does this mean that God in general is hateful towards mankind? I don't think so! I'll leave you with this:
Every authentic human being should scream in outrage at crimes against the elderly, at vandalism of the poor, at oppression of the disadvantaged, at domestic violence, at greed and power-oriented oppression and marginalization, at child abuse (and at the child sacrifice of the false religions Israel adopted from her neighbors!), at institutional hypocrisy that remains arrogantly insensitive to the real needs of real people...Moral outrage by moral agents (us) at moral atrocities is a mark of moral authenticity-why would we expect the Author of moral agents to be 'less moral' than we?
I find fault in those who follow something they know nothing about, I find fault in those who follow something they have reasonable doubt to be true, I find fault in those using religion as a magic cloak to shield them from the judgment and consequence of their actions and I find fault in those using religion when it is convenient for them.
Well, I understand why you may find fault with those kinds of people. But I don't understand why it bothers you. I suspect that someone, obviously of one of the categories above made a conversion attempt on you. And now, you have applied a modest stereotype against others of the same religous subscription. It's just a guess, but I can't be that far off.
I think fundamentally we are talking about deity name abuse. There are so many people in our generation guilty of this crime. And i think that many people have come to the realization that religion really can be worldly influential. It's just a shame that it has come across the way it did.
My prayers tonight (because it's now 3am) will go out that Christian unity can be restored and religious harmony gets a bit closer.

Old and New Testament. The biggest scam ever.
Posted:

I'm asking why all of the religious people I know use the Old Testament, before this forgiveness and compassion transformation happened, as explanations and rules for beliefs. If this was before the Holy Trinity, shouldn't it be taught from a historical view and not as a religious guide?
Well, God does showcase restraint in the OT aswell. It's not all just wrath and vengeance:
Consider Ex 9:15 - For by now I could have stretched ot my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
This is obviously not the only quote, and certainly does not do complete justice to the whole "lack of forgivenss in the OT", but I think it helps shed some positive light. I'm sure a scholar more learned than I would be able to provide more support.
I also think that because the OT is a historical representation of the development of Christianity, obviously 'ending' with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it can also be used as a religious guide which compliments the NT. Jesus regularly borrowed passags from the OT scriptures. Here are a couple examples:
- The Judgement of Isreal - God judged Isreal several times in the OT
- The Golden Rule (See Lev 19:18 and John 16:12-15)
- The Personality of God (merciful, compassionate, patient yet also punitive)
- The Ten Commandments
- Even the fulfillment of scriptures, by Jesus, so often mentioned on the NT
You're right though, that there is a clear and real transformation from the OT to the NT, which sort of evolves the character of God. However though, Jesus does point out on several occasions what he "was" like before his time. We know that the Lord can change his mind (despite the obvious inconsistencies this has with a grand plan) in Exodus 32:7.
TL:DR: Religious people use the OT as partial explanations for rules and beliefs because that is where their religion originates from. While there seem to be contradictions between the OT and the NT, we can talk about specific issues and try to resolve them. I won't pretend like I have hard and fast answers for everything, but will do myself to contribute my findings as I can.
In the Old Testament, God was spiteful, hateful and without compassion. He had rules, and they had harsh punishments. So, in turn, many Christians live their lives by those rules and use the reason that they follow those rules to be the possible consequences. Fine, it's not like their being hypocritical in doing so, really, even though the New Testament tells them that God will forgive them if they repent and intend never to sin again. So then why do these same people sin knowingly and then use the New Testament to explain that they can be forgiven?
Wait, spiteful? hateful? without compassion? Come on. These are exaggerated terms, rooting from the following words that frequent the OT: Vengeful, Wrathful and Jealous. If you disagree, please provide some scriptures where those words are used, or, provide evidence where you interpretted a section of the OT, and labelled God's character as such.
If you want to talk about being vengeful, wrathful and jealous, I would politely direct you to this source I found helpful: http://www.christian-thinktank.com/madgod.html
It is true that in the OT, God had rules and punishments. He had rules for Israel, and punished them when they failed. He also punished other tribes for atrocities against Israel. However, we need to realize that he never did this out of malice. It was always with the intent to bring justice, and better the community of people whom he loved.
Now, you say that many Christians live by those rules and as described in the OT. I am assuming you are talking about the rules which God had for himself; he issued his wrath against various people with the intent to do loyal justice. Now, if you can tell me that Christians these days are living with the same reasoning behind that, then i will gladly eat my words. But what Christians are you talking about? Westborough Baptist maybe? Those people are insane in my books. They intentionally manipulate scripture for their own agendas. Or, are you speaking about the everyday ignorant Christian/Catholic that has barely even opened their Bible they received in Grade 2? Or, maybe you are referring to those who do adamently defend the faith they believe in, but do so on very obtuse, ignorant reality.
It doesn't really matter who you are talking about specifically I guess. The fact remains that sinning knowingly is a part of being human. Sinning intentionally, after repentance, and forgiveness is in violation with Acts 3:19. So, why are these Christians repeatedly sinning (and committing royalty-like judgements) with the intent of knowing that they will be forgiven. From my chair, my friend, these people are completely delusional, and do not have the slightese grasp on the concept of forgiveness and what a blessing it plays in Christian life.
I hope this answers your question. I'm sure there's errors in it somewhere, but I did my best to research a response, and formulate it in a way that is complete.

Old and New Testament. The biggest scam ever.

I think he outlined his personal rules for the thread pretty explicitly:
<div class="quote">Quoting scripture and saying "god is great" does not employ those skills. That's right. No scripture quoting allowed. No reference to scripture allowed. It's meaningless and is against all reason. /rollseyes
<div class="quote">Why is discussing religious texts from a non-religious standpoint childish? It's not that. It's the back and forth. It's the insulting, disrespectful diction used in many posts. Heck, it's the title of the origial post that is childish. He's basically already made up his mind, and even engaging in discussion with him is a complete waste of time.
I don't pretend to know the mind of God. We were taught that he transcends time and space, and is therefore unprovable and unknowable on a discrete level. So exactly why God shows the world compassion after the old testament is a difficult concept I don't have an answer for.
<div class="quote">...if God became a forgiving God after Jesus was crucified for claiming to be King of the Jews; for which the penalty was crucifixion, because Jesus asked him to forgive them (not everyone, though, per the wording), then why do Christians still live by the Old Testament? The Old Testament reveals the dynamic link between Jesus' time, and the time of the prophets - who spoke about the coming of him. I think we still study the Old Testament because it enhances the messages of the Gospels. This is why we have a 1st and 2nd reading - it adds to the theme of the liturgical message of the day. Anyways, that's my understanding of it. I could be way off. I'm an engineer, not a theologist. lol
Edits: Then there's always the link between the Jewish customs of the OT that appear in the NT. Passover, Daily Routines, Peace and Offering. Etc.
<div class="quote">There are several books left out of the Bible you read, why is that? This is something I am currently struggling with. To be honest, I don't know why the current King James is the way it is. Church Control? Arch-Heresy? /shrug

i think the reason you may get berated here is that this is a science and philosophy forum. We are here to debate, using logic and evidence, and reasoning. Quoting scripture and saying "god is great" does not employ those skills. You're more than welcome to stay....but debate using debate tools.
So, let me get this straight.
- You make this thread, purposely calling out Christians to defend their faith-text
- You request that they do not use the contents of their faith-text to defend against your assault. Unfortunately, this is the only realistic way to do it. You cannot take certain 'difficult' passages in the Bible completely literally, and for honest fact. You need to investigate the history of the passage entirely, before making the extreme conclusions as you did in your original post.
Greg, I'm confused about what you're trying to achieve in this thread. You say your questions are rhetorical, but are still begging for responses. Are you honestly trying to have your issues resolved? If so, I provided a series of links which would aid you in your quest. The author is credible, although secular, and has helped me with my faith journey quite a bit.
Anyways...
Is this kind of childish banter really, really common on these forums? While drama is always entertaining, it really doesn't do much to stimulate the mind. How does one access the religion forum?

How much can you really transform your body in one month?

I've bee reading a bit about max/minning for reducing body fat. While it is entirely possible to maximize your weight losses, the healthy recommendation is maximum 2lb/week, or 8 lb/month of mass. Anything more dangers your health and hormonal balance.
Can anyone confirm this? I do not trust the source.

I would recommend against building a telescope, before purchasing one.
Despite your original infatuation with the sky, owning, operting and maintaining a telescope is not for everybody. Most people find it dull, only offering a cheap thrill on occasion. Even worse, if you do decide to build a telescope, understand that it is a very lonely and (possibly) long-winded task. If you grind your own mirrors, you may find yourself even more discouraged.
Two Suggestions for the Interested:
1: Purchase a 6-10" Dobsonian second hand. Wherever you are in the world, there is probably a local enthusiast around willing to part with an older scope. It will work GREAT for both deep sky and planetary observing, and it won't break your bank.
2: Go to a star party, or the local astro-clubs public events. Look through the members telescopes, ask as many questions as possible (I guarantee you, amateur astronomers love hearing themselves talk), and see what you like out there.
Clear skies.

These questions are rhetorical. I would love to hear a defense of this by believers.
So you're here to pick a fight? Sorry, I won't engage. I will politely point you to one of the best resources on the web, for such a man with a curiosity, and open mind such as your own.
Rather than (most likely) waste your time with the useless banter on these forums (do a search, because this topic has been discussed before), I will suggest that you visit this site for a week or so, read, learn and reflect/pray on the content there.

An Exercise Regimen to Reduce One's Body Fat Percentage?

Hi Smiles4Miles!!
I will suggest plyometrics. You really need some motivation for this routine though - I can't stand doing it because of the stupidly short recovery times. Here is a sample workout that was specifically tailored for me, but can be a general guideline for someone who wants to get cut.
The Cycle
1: Jump Squats (12-15 - unweighted) - 3 Sets
2: Cross Chops (12-15 - 10 lb medicine ball) - 3 Sets
3: Hopping Push Ups (Until fatigue) - 3 Sets
4: Bench Jumps (12-15 - Use at least a 2' step) - 3 Sets
5: Single Leg Hamstring Bridge (12-15 - unweighted) - 3 Sets
6: Burpees (20) - 3 Sets
7: Squat, Push, Press (Unconventional, if you need a diagram send me a message) - 3 Sets
8: Straight Leg Abdominal Raise (20 - unweighted) - 3 Sets
9: Plank (45 seconds to start - straight and on obliques) - 1 Set per side
Comments:
1: Do exercises 1-9 TWO TIMES per plyometric session
2: Give yourself VERY LITTLE recovery time between sets, and ZERO recovery time between exercises
3: The routine is meant to push both your physical endurance and your cardio-vascular potential.
4: I was told that this routine can be adopted for women as well, since the weights involved are very low, and you are usually pushing only your body weight.
5: Do this routine 2x per week; mixed with cardio - you will burn that fat fast.
GOOD LUCK!!

Walking, Long walks
Posted:

Walking is arguably one of the best ways to burn away fat on your body. Low intensity, long duration workouts (ie, moderately paced walking) accesses your available fat cells, and use them for energy.
The absolute best time to be walking is in the morning, before you eat breakfast. You're hungry thus allowing your body to access fat cells at a higher rate. To kick-start my new years resolution this year, i did this for about 2 months every day almost. Combined with an explosive diet, i lost over 25 pounds of body fat, and dropped from 25% - 20% body fat overall.
I did this in January/February also. So the added weight and resistance from the snow helped. Music was the motivation.

Don't forget about your legs. That section is very *very* easy mass, and contains the largest muscles in your body. Train them very hard, build lean muscle, and it will help with your bicycle cardio work outs. However, you will have reverse-good effects if you are trying to build mass, and keep a very strong running condition.

I have only been on this site for a couple weeks, and am stupidly new to online dating. I do not understand why some women respond to my messages, and why some don't. I do not understand why some women do not even read a message I send them, but others do, but still do not reply.
My thinking is that if I take 30 minutes to actually review my matches, review an individual's profile, write a decently-sized introduction that is rich with honest verbage, i should get a result. Isn't there some sort of standard ettiquette on this site just to say: "no, i'm not really interested? thanks for the message anyways"
Most of the time I don't receive a response - then again, I'm used to rejection by now and use it as a tool for motivation.
Anyways, I think my sent:received ratio for first contact is about 10:0. rofl

Jesus was right. Their "father was a liar and the father of lies and a murderer from the start2. John 8
Jesus was talking about the power of the devil controlling people through lies, deceit and hate. Not his own father being a liar. Read the whole thing.
You Are of Your Father the Devil
39They answered him,(BL) "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, (BM) "If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40but now(BN) you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth(BO) that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41You are doing the works your father did." They said to him,(BP) "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have(BQ) one Father—even God." 42Jesus said to them, (BR) "If God were your Father, you would love me, for(BS) I came from God and(BT) I am here.(BU) I came not of my own accord, but(BV) he sent me. 43(BW) Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot(BX) bear to hear my word. 44(BY) You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires.(BZ) He was a murderer from the beginning, and(CA) has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him.(CB) When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47(CC) Whoever is of God hears the words of God.(CD) The reason why you do not hear them is that(CE) you are not of God."

To the OP. It's not as bad as you think. Teachers in Canadian, Catholic Secondary Schools have been teaching evolution and it's theories since at least 2000. To with hold the information from students is a product of the community, region, and cultural designation.
We'll all come around eventually (and most likely still end up looking at God for answers).

OP: Depends on the objective of who started it. Do I want to convert you? Or do I want to tear up your belief system, and make you feel like a moron?
Anyways, I felt this passage appropriate.
Proverbs 25:8-11
What your eyes have seen
do not hastily bring into court,
for what will you do in the end,
when your neighbor puts you to shame?
Argue your case with your neighbor himself,
and do not reveal another's secret,
lest he who hears you bring shame upon you,
and your ill repute have no end.

Top 10 reasons the bible is repulsive

Number one reason it is repulsive is that it provides a means for those of "faith," to avoid personal responsibility for anything and everything they do.
This is absolute rubbish. Just this past Sunday, the readings and Gospel showcased how each person is 'broken' in some respect; all with sin, and all with consequences. It's really discomforting how you've decided to stereotype all Catholic/Christians into people who are completely guiltless. It's so wrong... /sigh

Hi curious,
... isn't agnosticism just keeping an open mind?
My post made some aggressive claims towards "Strong Agnosticism". Most agnostics I've met during my life fall into this category and have been more thick-headed and obtuse than some atheists. I know there are a couple different types, and it would be wrong of me to say my post referred to them all; I hope you didn't get that presumption.
... isn't it dishonest to choose a side when you wholly disagree with points on both sides of the argument?
Doubt is a component of faith, Curious. Unfortunately, I don't have a way around it yet. lol
... extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence?
This is probably hear-say, but if i were a Weak Agnostic, with an open mind, I would still have a difficult time believing that someone had a close interaction with something supernatural. I'm sure many Christians around the world think they have had some sort of spiritual connection with God, but how many others would accept that as 'extraordinary evidence'. It's intangible.
Yet Bush and his swollowers pretended to be Christian or Biblical. Funny stuff.
This is nothing new. People have been abusing the names of deities for thousands of years.

Top 10 reasons the bible is repulsive

Exogenist,
I'm glad we see each other straight. But let's not confuse personal religion (in which you subscribe yourself to both a belief system, and the appropriate actions), and personal spirituality (your own beliefs and moral code).
1 Corinthians 1:27
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.
And yet...
1 Corinthians 14:33
For God is not the author of confusion....
Good catch. But you need to be careful not to take each verse completely literally. Much of the bible is a fabrication of the relationship between the author and God. Their translation of a verse may be completely different from your translation of the verse.
I may interpret the first quote as: God has intentionally made the path to him difficult, providing obstacles which may (in the end) enhance ones faith.
I may interpret the second quote as: God has not intentionally set you up for disaster, or eternal suffering, no matter how bad life may seem.
And just a comment on Agnosticism...
I think a lack of effort leads people to being agnostic. It basically means they are cowards, and have given up in their search for personal spiritual satisfaction. Which goes hand in hand with the behavior models of todays Y and Z generations: as a culture, we're so damn lazy. We expect everybody to give us the hard and fast, when we want it, and (sometimes) even how we want it. This is not the church's fault; sure, we have some terrible religious leaders, who can't even explain the roots of Christmas, for example, but ultimately it is the individual's responsibility to persure his/her own spirituality.
TL;DR: Agnosticism is for wimps.

"Enter by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it"
This is a metaphor to demonstrate how Jesus is asking his followers to live their lives, and how the church defines the model Christian. Living in todays generation, even living just a couple of the beatitudes are stupidly difficult - let alone...
... speak in tongues, get baptized, give testimonies, tithe, show the beatitudes, do wondrous miracles, and attend church like a person with serious diarrhea.
If you are at the point in your life where you're trying to hammer down your personal spirituality, and taking into consideration the infinite viewpoints of different christians, just remember that nobody really understands fully the mind of God. Nobody has point blank, hard and fast answers about why he has spoken through the prophets, and "commanded" various things through people (especially in the old testament).
Worry less about what other think your fate will be for all eternity, and focus more on finding what fits your life, makes you whole as a person, and being a part of a community that you can share that with. Christians these days are completely divided - attempting to concatonate everybodies different believes will frustrate you, and drive you towards agnosticism. This also goes for youtube sites such that the OP posted - most of it is hate propaganda centred around the difficult passages in the Bible. Take it all worth a grain of salt, do your own digging and meditation (pray) on it, then discuss your findings with the community.
Onto dissecting some of your comments:
Believe in me or DIE...wait even worse, be tortured for all eternity (sheesh God takes the cake for ultimate torturer)?
As I have read passages like this in the Bible also, I believe that God is merciful. And i believe this interpretation (because that's what it is) is a means for either exploiting Gods good name, or using it as a more aggressive way to control people. Yes, there are some very explicit verses in the Bible; some that may lead you to believe that God is actually going to make you burn in hell forever if you don't go to mass every Sunday. Yet, there are verses which also proclaim how loving and forgiving he is. Personally, it sounds pretty contradictory. But then you need to realize that many of these verses were written over a 2000 year period. Authors did not sit down together to talk about how God spoke to them in dreams or whatever, and come up with a single story. Read the entire context of the passage, reflect on it, then if you're still frustrated, contact a priest or the district's bishop's office.
Say sorry or I'll but rape you for eternity?
I don't like it when people exaggerate like this during theological conversations. It makes it sounds like their mind is already closed, and they have no interest in hearing the other sides arguments.
Is fear really conducive with love?
This was true more so in the early 1900's when the RCC was selling 'seats' into heaven. Look it up - nasty stuff. Leadership treated it waaay too much like a business, and took advantage of many people. AFAIK, Jesus said some pretty different things when it comes to that.
I'm positive I'm wrong...
See above. Based on your tone and diction, it already sounds like you've pretty much agreed with the original poster, and made up your mind.

Thanks for the comments, LSBF.
What about the verbage? Too little? Too much? When looking for men online, do women honestly want to read a lot? Or are they mostly looking for an instant 'snap' attraction?
When I write a lady for the first time, I usually don't keep it brief - I take a lot of time to review her interests to see if they match mine, look for chemistry and talk about it.
