Homemade Christmas Presents
Posted: 11/17/2009 11:58:21 AM
Cookie exchanges are great...and if the cookies/bars happen to be freezer friendly, you've got goodies to last for months! We did one at work a couple years ago, and with 12 of us, there was a ton of variety!

I tend to do a lot of handemade gifts, not just for xmas...birthdays, weddings, births. To me, it means so much more that the time and thought was put into something...anyone can run to the mall and pick something out...but to make something means you're thinking of them more than just hte hour it takes to pick out the gift.

Just thought of something Tiny...keep your ear to the ground for the Canadian Brewhouse opening on the southside. I'm not sure when that's happening, but the wings are great at their other locations. Just might be another option if you choose to try a different place sometime.

There's nothing wrong with switching it up occasionally, but to do it too often loses the crowd - that's what ended the old Tuesday night wings on the west end...the place closed for "renos" and in the meantime, we had trouble finding another place so kept switching...just MHO...I'll have to get out and join you guys sometime now that you're in my neck of the woods!

You might also want to check within your neighborhood to see if there's going to be a neighborhood sale...I know that some do it and it works well.

Anyone else noticing this above your inbox?

The theory behind it is to get rid of joke or torso pictures...do you think it will work...or will it just be a way to "delete" those who you do not deem attractive enough?

two minutes...discuss amongst yourselves...

IMO Faith should be questioned...if you have faith, it will be strengthened by the questioning...if you just say you have it (as many do these days), you'll find out that you don't through the questioning...simple really...

If you're that nervous - message one of the people that is signed up to go to the event, and arrange to meet them outside or for coffee beforehand...often with some of hte bigger events, there will be a pre-meet at a restaurant or something.

Trouble with the boss
Posted: 2/24/2009 4:25:29 PM
it might be a generational issue as well...i've done a lot of research with this topic for my workplace and there's a lot to be said with a lot of issues simply coming because of different generations...each generation is motivated by different things, values, etc...by understanding where he's coming from, it might help iron out the communication problems.

Forcing Addicts into treatment
Posted: 2/16/2009 9:04:11 AM
I went and looked at the piece on the cbc website after reading this thread...and something struck me (well two things really)...no wonder they have an 80% success rate! They admit people who aren't addicted, so no wonder when they leave that they don't "go back" to the drugs/alcohol, and they only include those who have completed the program in their calculation of the success rate. Looks awfully sketchy to me!

Alberta latest province to warn about vehicle warranty telemarketing
Posted: 2/14/2009 7:39:27 AM

it might be better if people instead of hanging up, just put the phone down but active for a few minutes.

even better...they usually ask for one person...just tell them you'll get them and to hang on...then put the phone down. Every few minutes pick it up and say "they're on their way"...it's amazing how long some will stay on the phone...just my little way of helping others...if they're on my line, they're not continuing down their list!

I agree...document, document, document...and follow the proper chain of command if/when you report something.

You might have a case if the workplace has become "hostile"...but if there's no documentation, there's no hope for a case.

There's a very good transit system in Edmonton.

Obviously you haven't had to use it lately...it'll take at least three times as long to get anywhere over driving...and depending which routes you're using you may have to invest in protective gear as well...just ask my boss' son!

Not backing either side here...but people do feel temperatures differently. For some people, 16 degrees is toasty (they may be a human furnace), and for others 16 is freezing. It also depend on the humidity in the air.

Just sayin'...
