Should men and women live together?
Posted: 11/22/2009 4:23:46 PM
I guess as always it would depend on the individuals involved.. Personally myself, I would love to be living with a woman under the right circumstances for each of us.. It can be quite lonely always eating, sleeping, and doing things without a partner.. I guess if and when the time would be right to make that step, why not?

should I buy a new car?
Posted: 10/12/2009 10:50:58 AM
Hard to go wrong with a Civic or Corolla... If the price verses mileage and condition equate, then you've made a very good decision for that price level and re-sale factor, not to mention build quality and reliability, nice fuel economy too!! Also the 2006 Civic was Motor Trends car of the year for that year etc.....

Cool Alli, I didn't know about this feature!!... Well for me it doesn't show any of the place I left (Victoria,BC) or any of the province of NB where I ended up.. I guess eventually those will be added?? Pretty neat feature though, you can take a road trip right from the puter, sweet!!

Been lots of talk about it this week, and many interesting stories about these very smart and amazing birds from people calling in on the radio...

Some great news for breast cancer research!!

Major breast cancer breakthrough announced at BC Cancer Agency

BC scientists first in world to decode genetic evolution of a breast
cancer tumour

VANCOUVER, Oct. 7 /CNW/ - For the first time in history, BC Cancer Agency scientists in British Columbia, Canada have decoded all of the three billion letters in the DNA sequence of a metastatic lobular breast cancer tumour, a type of breast cancer which accounts for about 10 per cent of all breast cancers, and have found all of the mutations, or "spelling" mistakes that caused the cancer to spread.

The landmark study, which will be published October 8th as the cover story in the prestigious international science journal Nature, helps unlock the secrets of how cancer begins and spreads, thus pointing the way to the development of new breast cancer treatment targets and therapies.

"One in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer, and breast cancer accounts for 29 per cent of all cancer diagnoses for B.C. women," said Health Services Minister Kevin Falcon. "As a result of the efforts of the scientists behind the study, this breakthrough finding gives further hope to the thousands of women with this terrible disease."

"I never thought I would see this in my lifetime," said Dr. Samuel Aparicio, head of the breast cancer research program at the BC Cancer Agency, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). "This is a watershed event in our ability to understand the causes of breast cancer and to develop personalized medicines for our patients. The number of doors that can now be opened to future research is considerable."

But now after reading that statement, I can see I was thinking right about it all along, muhahahah!! Surely you must be having an off day or something (yes I know, don't call you Shirley ) lol..

should I buy a new car?

So your thinking more of a wagon type? The Subaru's are really well built and hold their value.. Not one of the better fuel economy vehicles, but all wheel drive I think? Is that the used one that you were thinking about?

My way of thinking is what do you need the vehicle for? If it's mostly solo driving with the occasional passengers, and getting groceries and running about town, I'd get a year or two old Corolla.. You may pay more than the domestics or a Kia etc, but they are very well built, fuel efficient, and hold their value over time, plus the name is iconic for re-sale ..

Mara your a smart lady, and between you and your mechanic you should do very well with whatever choice you investigate.. Just take your time and don't let yourself get rushed, find a good one that you like at the best price you can muster.. There are lots of good deals out there now for sure, remember it's sort of a buyers market on the lots right now and you have the ball in your court... Also remember the more complicated a vehicle is, the more that can go wrong with it in the future.. All wheel drive is nice, but expensive come repair time, same with power everything etc

Edit: good advice Doc!!

Edit#2 : here's some fuel economy info http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/transportation/personal/buying/energuide-winners.cfm

should I buy a new car?
Posted: 10/6/2009 7:35:27 AM
The car guy on the CBC a few weeks back was saying that as far as buying new, he thinks there will never be an opportunity again like there is now, with the deals and pricing out there right now etc... Depending what your wanting to purchase?, it's usually always better to let someone else buy new and take the depreciation hit, and get yourself a used year or two year old vehicle instead...

Depending what you want?, and how much you want to spend?, it's really hard to go wrong with Toyota for dependability such as the Corolla... Also the Honda's are also very well built and hold their value too... I would get the smallest and best built most fuel efficient vehicle that you can afford.. You never know where the fuel prices are going to go in the next coming years, and a small 4cly would be a good bet long term...

Also Google around for some reviews, and see what is recommended for what you may want in a vehicle etc...

Would y'all settle for 29 mins??? It's been quite awhile already you know, and by the time one may actually find someone on here and then finally get to the point of "happy time", I think the best I'll be able to manage is 28mins

Totally agree that we need to exercise our brains as with our body's.. I like to learn as much as I can each day from whatever source intrigues me at the time (computer, books, radio, TV, nature, music etc), and also feed my brain good eats ..

I'm sure I would like her, whoever she is?? But for now I'm going to be selfish and keep me all to myself Plus I'm sure this dudette is far away like most others on here, and I find that long distance relationships are almost as lonely as just being single lol... Maybe someday I'll seek again and see what could be, but for now I'll just keep on keeping on with my old first date scenario that I used to have posted

Yeah I can dig why the thread should of been deleted, I blew it in the beginning.. I didn't get into reading the very long forum rules, and don't really agree with most of them anyhow..

From your link I just noticed that it says not to post to a state or province that your not a residence of, "Road Tripping"?? Well that one totally sucks also imo.. I lived in BC for just shy of 44 years and have been in NB for 6 months now.. But guess I'm in the wrong again cause I've been posting in BC a bunch.. I really really miss BC!!!

Didn't see that rule before, oops my bad.. No wonder I always got the strap as a kid, and I'm still effin up all the time go figure... Anyhow I'm keeping my posting down to a minimum from now on anyways, and I'll still be posting in BC sometimes. If I get band then so be it, couldn't give two hoots and a holler, not like I'll ever be missing all the multitude of babes that keep filling up my inbox each day anyhow..

This thread was lame anyhow, I totally had an off day in the wording department, at least that's my excuse for now ..

Ps. I just had an epiphany: I need to find a sweet sexy Mod to date, then all will be crystal in the pond, and I'll be one styling dude!!!!

What has most changed your life journey?
Posted: 9/24/2009 4:57:06 PM
For me what has most changed or impacted my life journey in a big way was some things that happened in my early youth that kicked in feelings of anxiety, social anxiety , panic attacks and a touch of agoraphobia and depression that are with me to this day.. Basically no one ever knows or notices , but I endure things under great duress sometimes that are just normal everyday life stuff for most people, and miss out on lots... It feels like your the only one in the world with one arm, and you long to meet another (female) who also only has one arm, but it's a missing arm on the inside where no one can see not on the outside etc...
The second and also big life changer was having children....

A= The chicken or the egg? An egg cannot lay an egg, and a child cannot birth an adult, therefore the chicken was first to make the egg, and the fertile adult produces the children..

B= Absolutely, knowledge helped put that question on a screen for all to see.. Knowledge will always be power and opportunity.. It can be used for good, and it can be used for evil..There is power in both, but you get to choose which one you energize...

C= Freedom, Health, Sustenance..

D= For many there is one, and for many there are many..

Friends with Benefits..good or bad
Posted: 9/16/2009 6:14:47 AM
When I first came on Pof I tried to get across where I was at on my profile, and all I got was some upset responses by women thinking all I wanted was sex, which wasn't true at all .

I had figured that maybe there was a woman out there that is separated, and for whatever reason wouldn't want to "come out" in a new relationship just yet, but was also feeling quite lonely etc.. Like maybe she doesn't want her children to know , or she's the one that ended the relationship and it's over, but she doesn't want to further hurt her spouse...

So needless to say I had a few bitter responses... I still to this day have never messaged anyone on Pof in a pursuing way or to get a "date" etc.. Those were just some first contact messages sent to me by some lady's on here from my first profile at the time..

For me I don't believe a friends with benefits can really work, maybe for some who knows?. I would definitely want to be exclusive to each other only in the sexual department, and also get tested first before any of the good stuff starts to happen etc.. From reading through the forums and just looking around at society, it sometimes seems like people forget the times we live in, and promiscuity seems to be alive and well, scary!

Also ladies!!! Please don't always be afraid of someone who is separated, for some that does mean it really is over, and they are done... Anyhow I live in a dead town compared to back home in BC, so hard to compare the so called "Friends with Benefits" scenario in this neck of the woods .. I think I'm a relationship kind of guy anyhow..

Thanks for the kind words/advice, "sea"

Too bad a person that started a thread can't just delete it..

The question was I guess, "whats nice, cool and interesting" that you may like to share? It could have been anything anyone wanted, while being nice to each other in the process etc (what a concept I know)

Now I'll be dinged for having three posts almost in a row lol...

Hmmm, people are voting to delete this thread as a chat topic? Okay have at it!!

I thought maybe people could just post some cool interesting stuff that they have learned or wanted to share etc, and be nice in the process!! It could be about anything was my thinking...

So something that was cool for me this past summer was seeing Fireflies for the first time ever.. Guess to people here they are nothing new or special, but for me they were a really neat discovery..

Anyhow if this gets deleted then so be it.. You also won't find me back in the NB threads ever again like anyone cares anyways, rough crowd here in NB...

Sure seems like there are some Chat threads below this one that stick around for some reason?? Imagine no chatting on a dating/mingling site, who would have thunk?

So yeah, ever remember your Ma or whoever, telling you that: " If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all"? Well hence the spirit of this thread!!

The other day I was listening to Quirks and Quarks on CBC radio, one of my faves as it has lots of cool interesting tidbits for my little brain..

Anyhow they were talking about a newer dinosaur discovery called the: " Argentinosaurus". This thing was huge, remember when you think of a big dinosaur you usually think of the Brontosaurus??, well this thing was way way bigger.. They said that it was about the size of 15-20 elephants combined, that's a whole herd of elephants!!!!

So Mommies and Daddies, tell that to your child that's into dinosaurs and research it, and see what they think?!!! ( I was totally into dinosaurs as a kid)...

=Interesting.

That heartbeat that you can return to no matter what, and is always there for you.. Never had that myself, but have noticed it through most people that have a family member that is always there and always was, seems like a beautiful thing..

Fireflies, saw them for the first time ever this past summer, amazingly beautiful and romantic..

Long Distance, can it work?
Posted: 9/13/2009 11:45:18 AM
There are those that believe it can, and I guess it depends on the distance your talking about?.. Myself I don't agree that it can work.. You get a false sense of a relationship spending most of the time on the phone or email, and experience no real day to day life stuff in the flesh.. Plus a long distance relationship can almost be lonelier than just staying single imo..

What's your 5 year plan?
Posted: 9/9/2009 6:33:23 AM
Excellent points James and good advice!

I mentioned that show because of some of the transformations that I've seen watching it over the years and thought maybe it might provide some inspiration..Many of the before and after pics of the people I've seen on that show are just mind blowing and amazing.

Some from that show have gained back their weight, but most would agree that after losing all those pounds they felt and looked like new people.. Your right about the adverts , guess they have to pay for it some how. It is very much Hollywood and most cannot live at a camp that kicks your butt everyday towards healthiness for sure...

Anyhow deep respect to all those that get in motion to change their lives through healthy eating , exercise, and setting goals to arrive at a medically healthy weight, which in many cases reverses some medical conditions that people experience when vastly overweight etc..

What's your 5 year plan?
Posted: 9/8/2009 7:47:02 PM
I started on a big plan and change last April but don't really see ahead five years yet..

Sorry for a bit of OT.
Id like to just make a compliment here out in the open to Sweet for her first goal statement.. What a very honest statement and grand goal for both you and those that rely on you to achieve... First off, most women would never want to state that they are needing or wanting to lose a fair amount like that, and the number you stated seems like a very honest calculation... I don't know if you've ever seen that show The Biggest Loser?, but it is very inspirational and shows that it takes a lot of hard and painful work to shed those kind of weights etc... Good on you for getting the gears turning to make a plan, and two years seems very doable and reasonable if you set your mind and will power to it... Get a like minded partner and some good advice and you can do it!!! It won't be easy at all, but you can do it!!!
Good job!!!!

what in your opinion constitutes racism?
Posted: 9/3/2009 7:21:04 PM
Okay I'll be the first to get tar and feathered, as I have nothing to loose and don't know anyone here anyway really, plus I'm bored and your all far away, but I'm still locking my doors lol..

The other day there was a typical man hating rant that also stated that "men are idiots" (left caps off on purpose) So I can respect that, because well some men are, perhaps many.. But I must admit to the first thing that came to my mind when I read that statement, and also showed respect by not posting there... So here's where I get into ka ka for speaking my inner feelings as usual...

Here it is, and this is in no way meant to disrespect anyone okay??? If men are always such "idiots" then ladies please!!, look around and see all the things you enjoy in your lives including your computer and all the electrical parts that make it up..Go ahead and bash one apart and show me what piece a female invented, now do the same with your car, your microwave, your tv, your lightbulb, your electricity, your furnace, hot water tank, this can go on for days, years etc etc..... Almost everything up to probably 99+% was invented by men.. So there that is "a" difference between us....

We will always be different, and so we should be.. If I needed, or a loved one needed surgery, and the female doctor was the one with the most knowledge and skills, she would be the choice I would want... There is much stuff in our society that get's rammed down our gullets , most of it sucks in my opinion..

If your the best person for the job, then you should get it with the same pay and perks as a man would have for the same job.. Women are not meant to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen unless that's what they choose... Personally if a woman could be home with a child or children during the growing up stage then I'm all for that and think it's a better option than the dad taking that role... Remember, just my opinion...

Wow sheidaisy!!! Now there's a ? every sane man should totally from... But I will reach down, way way down to the part of my brain that was traumatized by falling out of tree's, and having some good rock fights as a kid.. So this is coming from my old and bruised section of brain, that could also be considered not very sane, hence my excuse to post my answer..

No are genders are not equal, and never could be if left unaltered!!! Why????? Because we have different naughty parts, therefore we are unequal

NOTES:

* One-third of the total power of a 75-piece orchestra comes from the bass drum.
* High frequency sounds of 2-4,000 Hz are the most damaging. The uppermost octave of the piccolo is 2,048-4,096 Hz.
* Aging causes gradual hearing loss, mostly in the high frequencies.
* Speech reception is not seriously impaired until there is about 30 dB loss; by that time severe damage may have occurred.
* Hypertension and various psychological difficulties can be related to noise exposure.
* The incidence of hearing loss in classical musicians has been estimated at 4-43%, in rock musicians 13-30%.

Statistics for the Decibel (Loudness) Comparison Chart were taken from a study by Marshall Chasin , M.Sc., Aud(C), FAAA, Centre for Human Performance & Health, Ontario, Canada. There were some conflicting readings and, in many cases, authors did not specify at what distance the readings were taken or what the musician was actually playing. In general, when there were several readings, the higher one was chosen.

Just a copy and paste for some info etc :)

How far would you commute for a first date?
Posted: 9/2/2009 6:14:31 AM
Hmmm, Well I moved recently right across Canada, and it would seem most of the dating opportunities are always in the 100+ km range from where I live... I would prefer to date someone withing bike riding distance, so maybe 25kms.. Long distance relationships can almost be as lonely sometimes as just staying single in my experience...

something interesting about the 'viewed me'

Mara,
1) She doesn't even need to be that smart, a good heartbeat would work!
2) I've made myself ungrabbable for now, till I'm more settled here etc.. Unless my custom fantasy Kate Winslet or Nora Jones miracle happens as described elsewhere..
3) You only had to be one year younger, my cutoff range was 58
4) Had you been just one year younger, perhaps I would have developed a leg cramp and all that running would have been a non issue

In all seriousness though, I think your good match will come along someday.. Older men would usually want to be with a partner I would think.. Heck I have times when I'm here at home all alone, and you get a chest pain or something and wonder, oh crud why am I alone etc.. Plus there is much comfort in having a living heartbeat next to you at night etc..

Sheidaisy,
It's always been about the art and form for me!! See I can't draw at all, and I always have envied those that can draw and paint to pass the time etc.. So I had to find something sort of artistic that I could be good at, and so, umm yeah

Sorry for the way OT posting!!

Maybe I'm not kind

Besides the last thing I'm willing to do at this point is squash my first date scenario.. I'm getting rather used to my routine, and quite good at it if I do say so myself

I also wouldn't take too much stock of those that judge by spelling errors etc.. Your not going to be thinking about spelling when meeting someone in person, and we all make mistakes. Those that get all uptight about spelling are probably to darn anal to hang around with anyhow, and I was just pointing that out as a courtesy..

I think a person needs to figure out where all the 50+ to 60ish guys are all at.. I mean just that pic alone on the bench would get me a calling if I was in that age bracket, and could actually get the courage to message lol.. A flower between the flowers! :)

Calling all the good 50+ to 60ish Men???(kind Men), where are you??? Your missing out here!!!

I wouldn't worry about it Mara, there are lot's of differing styles and personalities on this site for sure, so who knows why you got blocked or why people make some of the decisions they do... I just looked at your profile, and except for some errors at the beginning of the last sentence in your first paragraph, all seems very nice.. Pics look great, and you look friendly and kind, with a nice smile :)

I don't even view that matches thingy notification that comes in the mail, just delete it and never view it... Also have never found the need to block anyone either, seems kind of rude unless one was being harassed or something.. I could see why you ladies may need to use that blocking feature from time to time though etc...

Would you let your 13-year old teenager try to sail around the world... alone?
Posted: 8/29/2009 9:47:32 AM
Man, why do things always have to be so serious and somewhat confrontational in the forums all the time.. Dang I wish I stayed away from this one now, but I was missing BC I guess... The 13 year old black belt analogy was just a statement is all, that some are more focused and or skilled etc...

I think she has a big dream, and it's nice to see a focus like that instead of all the other stuff young females focus on.. I hope she can do it one day.. If she was my daughter, no I wouldn't let her go.. I've been out there, way out there, it's a big vast beautiful scary place..

Sailing around the world is a massive undertaking with risks that none of us here would even know about fully, or be able to think of all of them...

I used to have that same dream to think I could sail around the world, and do something in life that most could never do etc..

I hope she can realize that goal one day when she's of age to do whatever she wants just like all of us!!! Reach for the stars, climb that mountain!!

Thanks Balled Eagle your right...

If we were a sea faring family, and her abilities and knowledge were very advanced, sort of like some 13 year olds are black belts already etc.. I like to think that I would let my own daughter go, but most likely would not.. The world out there is not a very friendly place in some spots, and I would fear much more than just the ocean for her...
So yes, I feel pretty confident that I wouldn't let her go till she can legally do it without my consent...

First off, what a beautiful dream for a 13 year old female to have.. Talk about courage and adventure!!! I dare say most of us here would be frightened to head out 5 kms to sea rather than take on the whole globe.. It's a very beautiful, dangerous, wild and unpredictable place out at sea..

I used to commercial fish on a 38.5 ft troller on the west coast of Vancouver Island as a teenager.. We would be way, way out to sea where you couldn't even see land, fishing on the edge of a bank on the edge of a 1000 fathom drop (6000ft) It can stir up something fierce out there at times, and there are many variables for sure, huge 40+ft rollers for example..

I think this young gal believing she can take this on is just amazing of her courage and sense of adventure.. It's not just the perils of the sea she would be facing, but wildlife, huge ships that could run her down without even knowing it, politics, piracy etc...

I would want to know more about her knowledge and abilities before I crushed her dream. She deserves the benefit of the doubt in my opinion before being judged!!! Maybe a few more years of study and planning are in order for her dream to happen, but then again maybe she already has the skills???

Way to go girl, you have my admiration and respect to dream that big!!!!
