US lost its moral authority the moment it was created. Slavery and genocide akin to the greatest crimes of the Romans. And it continues

Saddam was no more evil than the Founding Fathers who used genocide and slavery to build the United States

Can Anyone Relate to Dating a Woman who is Bi-Polar?
Posted: 7/23/2009 10:10:59 AM
Hahahah, ALL women are bipolar!!!

No, really, I had a girlfriend who had some serious anxiety issues and couldn't hold her liquour-- which almost added up to what I would call bipolar...

Take care of yourself. Tell her to see a psych or go on medication. Dont waste time with emotional vampires.

is it just me or,are others exhausted in this singles quest?
Posted: 7/23/2009 10:08:44 AM
I did Match.com and it was crap. I think basically it is people trying to find what does not exist.

I am amazed at the absolutely asinine standard profiles I read on Yahoo and Match.com personals . So boring and plain word-wise that I thought no way can these women be real, they sound like Stepford Singles, Jesus! (referring to original 70s film)

I mean , there is no originality or creativity in the profiles on those sites. It is like they are robots, or are terribly afraid of talking about themselves , as if they are not really human, but some projection of what they think is OK for the men they are trying to attract; either they are trying to retain their mystery or just afraid to be real.

So many naive women out there it is ridiculous.

The rest of the world is glad that we have finally ended the Bush regime.

The war in Iraq is one of the biggest catastrophes of history, and one of the actions we will be hated for the most, besides Hiroshima.

With Obama we may be able to regain the world's trust...

I think Obama is trying, but he can only operate within a set range of "acceptable policy" and can't implement really radical change which we all need. We are still basically a one-party system. The majority of Americans are not intellectually lucid enough to support any policy that is outside the bounds of what we (they) consider common sense

Read Noam Chomsky.

With the Madoff scandal and economic collapse we can see that our version of Capitialism does not work.

Introducing universal healthcare has caused fear among the conservatives, fear of "socialism", which is actually we should consider. It is "Democratic Free-Market Capitalism" that we should fear

Religion is just a way of controlling people, a phase in human EVOLUTION, a civilizing force, but not an absolute.
All groups and societies and religions and governments form just to consolidate power and there is no sublime objective ultimately other than to gain power and control and protect a certain group.

Can you still remain friends after a long serious relationship?
Posted: 7/23/2009 9:44:15 AM
Then there is "Friend with benefits". I think classifying everything and labelling relationships is just absurd.
People get married , then get divorced. People say I love you, then hate each other a year later.
It would be good to have a series of life mates without all the fear involved in being "committed", because eventually one person gets tired of the other, then "cheats" and all trust is gone.
The real negative aspect is the deception, everything else seems childish, this illusion and actually believing that just words spoken in a moment of passion actually mean anything

Male role models
Posted: 7/22/2009 7:12:10 PM
My male role models have often been musicians; other than that I am my own ideal role model - I don't really look up to anyone anymore....those are just illusions of childhood.

I've had tacky friends tell me how to act, what to wear, what to say, what not to say, etc. etc....but now I see they were just commenting on their own faults.

When you can question all authority and be your own role model, then you have reached enlightenment

Not sure.....but the saying "Lovers can never be friends" is entirely false. Rather, it is lovers must be friends.

A relationship should start as a friendship first, with the main elements, mutual respect and compassion for another human being.

The whole love thing which lasts two weeks is false. Passion, sexual desire, romantic "love" are transient emotions and physical reponses; if there is nothing beyond that it was never love in the first place, just an adventure. Nothing wrong with that, of course, the adventure and fun, but the problems come when we try to label it something other than it is, or expect something that will eventually lead to major disappointment when the winds of change blow........

I don't know because when I hesitated things worked out better,. When I jump on a supposed "opportunity", it doesn't work out.. Ironic

Vacation in France, your point of view
Posted: 7/22/2009 6:08:05 PM
I have been to Paris and other cities in France several times. Last time I was there, people were really nice. This could be because I am a Francophile and French translator.
I love France
I prefer people in the South of France, but find Parisians really interesting.
The whole antagonism against Americans was a result of our brash American tourist behavior after WWII, lots of arrogance on our part, and loud rudeness.
I totally understand, I am from a big city too, LA.
The best thing for an American tourist is to be patient, polite AND at least try to communicate in French

Traveling Alone?
Posted: 7/22/2009 6:02:19 PM
By the way, I was thinking of travelling in Europe again this summer , but so far have not found a travel partner. I am pretty expert on the whole metro-bus-tram-train -and -pensione -cheap hotel -bread-cheese-picnic budget travel thing, and know my way around several major cities there...my major inspiration was the book by James Michener called The Drifters

Traveling Alone?
Posted: 7/22/2009 5:58:39 PM
I travelled alone a lot throughout Europe and lived there for 10 years, too.
It was adventurous and exciting when I was younger, but now in my 40's it is rather a drag. I'd rather stay home and watch TV.
While travelling, I have been in a lot of single hotel rooms , gone to bars alone, etc. I think it is harder for a man, but maybe I am wrong.

Spain or South America?
Posted: 7/22/2009 5:54:44 PM
I lived in Andalucia , Spain for 3 years. In Malaga.
People are great and the women are warm-hearted. The girlfriends I had there were very "traditional" ,almost prude, but that was just my experience, so you never know.
I really like Spanish women!
As far as Brazil goes, I hear the women are much more liberal about sex; you gotta learn a little Portuguese, don't speak Spanish to them.
