Rusty,
I hate to have to point this out, but your actions probably made the lobsters suffer far worse and longer than an instant death in boiling water. Letting them run out the door, they're totally out of their element and crushed or maimed by something else, a slower death no doubt. Not to mention the suffering of your boyfriend.
I'm sure your boyfriend paid a small fortune for the fresh seafood, in your honor and you destroyed dinner??
Pilot, why does the seafood have to be alive when you cook it? I've seen lobster and other shellfish frozen, which I am sure many people buy.

Regardless, I'm happy again! I'm just praying this isn't a fluke!
I'm just praying you won't put us all through that garbage again.... I doubt if boiling an egg has anything to do with whatever carton or space is betweem the eggs....use common sense.

Roast Potatoes
Posted:
2/13/2009 5:40:27 AM
Here's what I do... and the potatoes always come out wonderfully brown.
Peel russets (baking potatoes) and cut length wise into eighths. (You can
vary by personal preference and size of potato.) Place slices in paper or
plastic bag with salt, pepper and approximately two tablespoons of flour
for six potatoes. (Amount of flour is not an exact measurement.) Shake to
coat slices; dust off excess flour.
Very lightly oil the bottom of a cookie sheet. (You could use spray oil or
olive oil.) Place potatoes in one layer. Sprinkle some olive oil on top of
potatoes.
Roast at 425 for about 45 minutes; turn half way through baking time.
Remove when golden brown.
Other things can be added to the dusting mixture to suit taste. (Dan: I
sometimes add fresh thyme.)

I've been following the recipe from Yankee magazine for years. Really works for me..
In a saucepan cover the eggs with 1 inch of
room -temperature water.
Bring just to a boil (until the first bubble
comes to the surface).
Remove the pan from heat, cover, and let stand for 11
minutes (or up to 15 for extra large eggs).
Drain and rinse in cold
water.

free cookie recipe

Hoax or not, there is nothing even remotely special about this recipe. It looks very standard and you can get any chocolate chip or oatmeal cookie recipe of this kind in cookbooks or the internet.
If NM or anyone sold $250 cookies then too bad for anyone falling for it. If you have $250 to spend on a cookie, then obviously more is needed in one's life.

Anyone know how to make peanut butter?

Ahhh writer59, that is a good theory, but if you check the natural peanut butters at the grocery store, they have no expiration date, just like the processed peanut butters.
Actually I was thinking about homemade peanutbutter, the kind you make yourself - and not the Smuckers natural PB brand etc...
A preference for the the taste and texture of commerical peanut butters is pretty much like preference for macaroni and cheese. I am stunned at how many people of certain ages don't like real macaroni and cheese because they have grown up with the taste of the boxed kind and expect that flavor, size, texture etc. Same with mashed potatoes and many other commercially prepared foods.
Yes, this is exactly what I meant in my previous post, that so many people are accustomed to the taste, that's a good part of the reason so many people buy it. Contrary to popular belief, hydrogenated PB really isn't as good for you.
The best commercial PB in my opinion, is Skippy. My son likes it. PB makes my daughter hurl, literally. She hates it. I dont hate it, but I dont like it all that much. Homemade PB or almond butter rocks!

OP: I have the perfect recipe for you! I promise it will give you the exact same results of your favorite brand.
Buy a big jar of Skippy. Pour or scoop it all out into a blender.
Whiz for 20 seconds, 4 times.
Scoop back into any container or your choice.
Presto!
Yes there is a reason why the grocery stores are stocked with Jif, Skippy, Peter Pan etc. Like most foods, they're full of additives and preservatives. We can keep them on the shelves without it going rancid. It's much easier. Not better for you, but easier.
If you ate only natural peanutbutter you would acquire a taste for it. The stuff at the store is often much different from natural stuff - though Skippy is by far the best.
There are other nuts you could try as well - almond. cashew, sunflower... have oils on hand if you want- peanut oil, sunflower etc...
Good luck!

I have a huge bag of carrots
Posted:
2/5/2009 1:05:20 PM
Seriously, OP, I see you are from Washington. Has to be a lot of snow out there, can't you just make a lot of snowmen and give them noses?
Naughtical: If you carrot all, don't put their noses in the soup.
If you also happen to have a lot of eggs, you could make a carrot nut torte. But I see lots of others have given carrot cake recipes so I'll skip that,
Here are a couple of recipes from Mollie Katzen:
CARROT & WHITE BEAN SALAD WITH YOGURT-SESAME SAUCE
Adapted from "Still Life with Menu"
Preparation time: 35 minutes plus time to chill
Yield: 4 to 6 servings
Strips of carrot are cooked until tender, then combined with white beans, marinated thoroughly, and topped with delicious Yogurt-Sesame Sauce. You can make both the salad and sauce a day or two in advance, and refrigerate them in separate tightly covered containers. (Leave out the fresh herbs until shortly before serving.)
1 1/2 pounds carrots
1 15-ounce can white pea beans, rinsed and drained
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
Black pepper to taste
1/4 cup finely minced parsley
3 scallions, minced
2 to 3 tablespoons minced fresh dill
Yogurt-Sesame Sauce (recipe follows)
Peel or scrub the carrots, and cut them into thin, flat matchstick pieces about 1 1/2 inches long and 1/4 inch wide. Steam until just tender (5 to 10 minutes), then refresh them under cold running water, and drain well.
Transfer the carrots to a medium-large bowl, and add the beans, oil, vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, salt, cumin, and pepper. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate for at least several hours (and up to several days).
Stir in the parsley, scallions, and dill within about 30 minutes of serving time. Serve cold or at room temperature, topped with a healthy dollop of Yogurt-Sesame Sauce.
YOGURT-SESAME SAUCE
1/2 cup sesame seeds
3/4 cup yogurt
2 tablespoons finely minced parsley
1 tablespoon light honey
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt
Up to 1/3 cup water (optional)
Whirl the seeds in a blender or electric spice grinder for about 15 to 20 seconds, or until ground to a fine meal. (Don't let it turn into a paste.) Transfer to a medium-small bowl.
Add all remaining ingredients, except the water, and mix until well combined. Thin with water to desired consistency. Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.
Russian Carrot Pie
1 tbsp butter
1 cup finely minced onion
1 lb carrots, thinly chopped (I used an extra 1 lb bag of baby carrots leftover from holiday snacking)
1/2 tsp salt
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
1 tbsp AP flour
1 1/2 cups cottage cheese
1 egg
3 tbsp fine bread crumbs
black pepper
3 tbsp minced dill
2 tbsp minced mint
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
Nut Pie Crust (below)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Melt the butter in a large skillet and add the onion and garlic and cook about 3-5 minutes. Next, add the carrots, salt and lemon juice. Cook until the carrots are soft but not mushy — about 8 more minutes. Sprinkle with the flour, mix well, and cook for about 2 more minutes. Remove from the heat.
Beat the egg with the cottage cheese in a large bowl. Stir in the herbs, some black pepper and the breadcrumbs. Add the carrot mixture (it’s okay if it’s still hot) and combine well.
Spread into the crust and sprinkle with paprika and Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees, then turn the heat down to 350 degrees and bake for another 30 minutes. Let cool for at least 5 minutes before slicing. Serve hot, warm or at room temperature.
Nut Crust
6 tbsp cold butter
1 cup AP flour
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup finely minced nuts (I used walnuts)
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp chopped chives
3-6 tbsp cold water
Use a pastry cutter or a food processor to cut the butter into the flours, salt, nuts and chives. The mixture should get to the point where it resembles course cornmeal.
Add the liquid a little at the time until the dough comes together. I used all 6 tablespoons, but you never know.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap for storage in the fridge. After about an hour or so, roll it out using flour and place into a 9-10 inch pie plate, forming a crust with an edge.
I chose to par-bake my crust — 20 minutes at 375. I used some parchment and dry beans to weight the crust down. After 20 minutes, remove the crust, take out the weights (beans, beads, whatever) and fill with the carrot mixture and proceed.

antique crystal and cast iron
Posted:
2/4/2009 8:13:56 AM
I have my grandmother's whipping utensil. Not sure what its called but it whips eggs, cream, etc... a coil thingy with a wooden handle.
I also have a beanpot. Its brown on the upper half and off white or cream on the bottom. Very old - I got it at an antique store but have never used it. I don't have a clue.
I have several great cast iron pans... I havent used in a while as I need to season them... I'll use this advice here, and try it!
Lastly, speaking of cast iron - I have several cast iron enamel pots - all Le Cruset brand. One has a big crack on the side - barely used. I'm not sure if it's safe. Another has the enamel chipped inside - anything I can do about that? It was my favorite pot of all.
Now I'm going to have to go to the Salvation Army and check out some of the treasures that have been mentioned here. What if I found an old toaster?!

This is true. After age 48, women are very sad to see some men go downhill ... and worse that the men are clueless and still remain happy.
Seriously, don't believe everything you read, especially from the media.
Whoever wrote this is just trying to make 48 sound elderly and fragile. Thats a bunch of BS.

I think you have to totally give up sweets to be rid of your sugar addiction. Artifical sweeteners might have less calories but they still make you crave more sugars,
When you're sweetening something, use honey or molasses or even raw sugar. In moderation. Its better for you that white sugar.

I am 49 and have 2 young elementary school age children. Immaturity is my beauty secret. I have just as much energy - if not more- than I did 15 years ago BC (before children). I had a full life and career before I became a mom. But now I am divorced and raising the kids (and occasionally it seems, my ex) and thats my priority.
By choice, I rarely date because I am active in the kids lives to the fullest and I wouldnt be involved with someone I didnt know well.
If I feel sad or lonely its not because I am older. Could be a number of things but my age has nothing to do with it. I like where I am at this age; I am far wiser and more resourceful. Granted I had a bit of a leaner body but having kids after 40 can change all that....but I have no regrets.
I have wonderful kids, great friends and a good family. It just gets better. So why would I be sadder?

Does anyone here, women in particular, ever get emails from a guy that says he wants to meet you, but also knows you want to make good money part time with a fun activity? "Something that women enjoy" made it sound like an "escort" service.
I got a message from this guy, supposedly from Ocala, and he invited me to Ocala at a hotel breakfast for VIPs, "all expenses paid", to bring a friend and hear about how we can make six figure income, then he's take us to lunch in a limo and go see horses, etc.
He wouldnt tell me what he actually does for a living but said to call him. I responded how can I participate in a seminar as I am deaf, and I can only call him by relay. He said he forgot. Then later yesterday, all correspondences were deleted, even from my sent list. Very strange.
Right away I thought that there is something less than kosher going on here. It also looked like I was just one of the several women he worte that stuff up for.
Anyone else get these??

In your pics, cramsy, you look cranky. None of them are smiling even remotely. The main pic, first thing I see is a hairy underarm. The other 2 aren't much better. You're not a bad looking guy at all, so find some pictures of yourself that bring out your charm and good looks. Not all pissed or sulky. "Yes, I do smile"... don't tell us, show us.
Seems that your first paragraph in essay is a bit defensive. And you waste no time telling the WOMAN (get rid of caps) to scramsy if they're not exactly that. True, you don't want to waste your time, but there are more subtle ways to convey it rather than making each woman viewer feel it personally.
Talk about who you are more positive and what you like rather than what (or who) you don't like. That would get you more positive responses. There just isn't much, if any, positiveness in your profile and the pictures seem to say it all.

Some mentally impaired people are quite high-functioning. (For example GWBush)
I disagree with this. Dubya ain't all that high functioning. But he has many people highly functioning for him. Some of it works, some of it doesn't!!
Yes, I would still proceed with the divorce plans, although not cut him out of my life immediately, especially if there's kids involved. But it all depends... is the spouse able to care for themselves or is he/she abusive, etc.?
You have to do what you can to take care of yourself. Then do whatever it is you can for the spouse, or soon to be ex spouse. If you need to get the divorce then do it. Doesnt mean you have to rip the person up in the process though. Just sayin'.

She's smothering me
Posted:
9/3/2008 4:08:21 AM
You need to take care of yourself too, and she's not allowing this for you if she can possibly help it.
Be firm and set your limits. Draw the line. And definitely TELL her that she is smothering you. You can be very kind about it. But I have a feeling, if she is already manipulating you, then she will be freaking out and say/ do all kinds of things to bring you down to where she is.
If SHE is a good friend, then she will respect your needs and boundaries. Just like with children, stay firm but fair. You could be a very good role model for her if she chooses to respect and understand your end of it.
But I have a feeling that she won't. Even though you are "best friends" it might be time to force distance from her and maybe even re-evaluate the friendship. You can deal with this well, I am sure. But she probably won't handle it well, no matter how you do it.
OH AND ALSO (although i will sound like a big cry baby now) she now seems to have this new thing where she chases the guy she knows i like.
That's not fair of her, and she understands this. She is NOT, I repeat, not, being a good friend to you. All she can think of is her own needs, and quite frankly, screw yours!
OH AND ALSO..... You need to stop letting her think for you. She has you thinking that you're not a good friend if you refuse to cater to her every whim and need. You're a big crybaby if you so much even whimper.
Remember this: Manipulative people tend to engage in "refelctive" behavior. They act one way then accuse you of acting that way. You're not the cry baby or the inconsiderate one, as she wants you to think, but SHE is. Got that???
The issue really isn't "clingy" but manipulative here. Big time.
I had a best friend for over 20 years. I did anything and everything for that friend at her beck and call. But one day she went way over the top, and it was very, very painful to distance myself from her. But she could only think of herself and what would most benefit her. She might not have intended my getting screwed over, but she hardly rectified the situation when it came to light... just continued to make sure her needs were still met.
Best friendships need to be equal, and when they're not then it's not a best friend deal like it or not.
Time for you to move on. Remember, though, as my wise friend Connie would always say, "It's better to 'unite' a friendship than cut it off completely" . Doing so could do her a big favor. I am sure you would welcome her back if she saw through this and realized the situation as it is. But, don't hold your breath.

Dinner Date - Who Pays?
Posted:

I think that whoever makes the invite - should pay. If you invited someone over for dinner, you wouldn't expect them to bring the food, would you?
If I have been invited out by a man a few times and things are going well, I take initiative and do the inviting, fully prepared to pay for everything.
If you're doing the inviting, then choose a spot that's affordable. If you want to upscale, but can't afford it, wait a bit to see how everything goes, and then maybe splurge.
I hate it when I am invited out for a date by someone I don't know well, and then he asks me to go dutch or pay for the whole thing!
I've treated the guy to dinner many times, but only if I have invited him out or gotten past a couple of dates. Also I never order more expensively than my date, even if he encourages me to. If he takes me out to a nice place but orders a sandwich, then I get something similar.... not steak.
Rule of thumb.... courtesy!

She's 55 and looks much better than I do! But now I have some inspiration and maybe half there by my 50th.....arrrrgh! She's gorgeous! And from New England! So she's all good in my book.
Great smiles too, and just looks like a well put together gal with a great profile.

Your profile has some grammar weaknesses... end sentences with a period and go back and look for repetitions... you use the word "relationships" a lot for example.
Also try not to see things about yourself as "cons" but if you like tattoos then be proud of them. They're not for everyone but some people love them. I don't see myself getting a tattoo but my best friend has many and actually they're cute. Don't judge yourself or try to be "first" to judge.... smoking is a vice but a personal thing and lots of guys smoke. Don't say "thick" or cite being overweight as a con... you're a beautiful woman and try to go on your many great qualities.
Its also apparent that you have a lot to give and look like a wonderful friend to have. You don't have to say it all... just give yourself the best you can and let someone else do the math.
Diana-
of course i would send them to you first for your approval and the pleasure of knowing i made coffee spew all over your computer screen..
I am drinking coffee right now and very nearly spewed it!!
OK, I will look for more... havent had any taken of me recently ... ususally I'm snapping pics of the kids.
Diamond - the reason I have this picture up is I thought it might work with my headline, "Hear no eveil" and maybe it sorta looks like I am covering my ears? But maybe not?

It's perfect, that's what's wrong.
EDIT: Just noticed your headline might need an sssss. Then you can test the waters.
