That is hysterical, although at the time, might not have seemed to be.
Sorry, I cannot think of one kitchen diseaster in my life so far. That does not mean I did not make them. I just cannot remember.................lol
OH< Just remembered one. I think way backkkkkkkkkkk, before my children came on the scene, there was a time I THINK when I forgot to turn on the oven for a Thanksgiving turkey. Gosh, wayyyyyyy back that was. I divorced that man. But I digress I guess.
Happy Autumn all.

Lamb Stew

I just made a few days ago a lamb soup...it became more or less a stew though, because I had so many veggies in it. I was wondering if you could enlighten me as to what bushmills is? Perhaps some sort of thickener?, flour?.

Fish drippings atop sweet potatoes...oh,,,,,,,OKAY... NO, you did not use fish juice, did you? OKAY,,,,,,,,,all OKAY then. All is well. I do love sweet potatoes. Last night I made a cranberry quiche. Today, it was a sausage tomato sauce to top rigatoni pasta. YuMMMY, very Yummy!! Good to be alive and able to cook, using the great ingredients of the world.

Diners - know any truly good ones?
Posted:
9/6/2009 2:37:06 PM
OH BOY---my kind of interest. We have THE DINER in Yellowknife. Now, let me say, first and foremost, it is not for the cuisine I go for, it is for the friends I make and the chat as well, keeps me on top of the issues in the city and gosh darn, I would not miss being there on Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m. nor occasionally during the week at 10 a.m. We do have FUN, tell jokes, do the friendly thing.
Previous to Christmas, it holds a Christmas bonanza of food for all. Like I say, not special food, just GREAT FOOD with GREAT COMPANY and a few giggles to boot.
Favourite item?? Hard to say, really I suppose perhaps it is their mashed spuds and beef and gravy during the week. It is home yummy, for sure!!
A mix of aboriginal peoples and the rest of us...some even get kicked out for raucous behaviour...IMAGINE that!! And once upon a time, I have seen the police arrive to get things under control. Once I wrote my best story from ideas there and got to be on stage locally to read it. Still have it around somewhere. I KNOW I do.
Take care all.

Fresh Sweet Corn Bread - Amazing!!!

I am IN!! Anything with rosemary has my attention immediately. Trying to stay low on bread stuff but still I can manage this. Be good for breakfast I bet with black coffee and a wee chunk of old cheddar cheese. Prob. would substitute another type of cheese for the pepperjack though.

Thanks for the one recipe here that I have been looking for,,,,the Curry Chicken. Twice this summer I have had a curried dish (same one each time) at a local restaurant, one where the tables are set up outside here in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Both lovely summer days with temps. in low 20 C . I loved this dish. The curry was served over rice and it had chick peas in it.

Good Gawd woman!! Is there no end to your expertise in the kitchen? You are my fav. one to read on here. ABSOLUTELY!!!! Your family must have been THRILLED to get UP in the morning around your abode.
My fav. breakfast and bear in mind I live alone is scrambled eggs done in a double boiler. I monkey it up sometimes with all sorts of left-over stuff but I like shredded cheese the best with basil and green onions. Just me..

TooShadows!! You are making me homesick for a certain part of Canada.......cuz, our family,,,,now grown, used to make our way to our cabin by vehicle and 2 boats, dogs, kids, food and gear to our log cabin about an hour and a half from Lynn Lake, Manitoba. Wow!! What a weekend!!. Dad was the breakfast starter and we awoke, the rest of us, to the aroma of breakfast over a country kitchen stove and the smell of toast over the fire.............GAWD, that was heavenly!! Muck around for the weekend and come home......a very Canadian thing to do.....GOD BLESS CANADA!!!

Love this for teatime.
IRISH BRACK
Overnight, soak:
1 cup of tea ( any flavour- I use Chai Tea), using two tea bags
3 cups mixed dried fruit
1 cup brown sugar
Next morning add:
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 tsp. baking powder ( make sure it is fresh)
1 well-beaten egg
Mix well. Put into greased loaf pan. BAKE at 300 F for 2 hours. Remove from oven and leave in pan until following day.
NOTE: Sometimes it is ready in 1 1/2 hrs; test with a tooth pick. If it comes out clean, you are OFF to the RACES and Good EATING.
Enjoy and HAPPY EASTER all.

Re: broccoli. I surmise that only the bccoli should be there in the midst. I think the Cheese Whiz would melt more or less and make the dish a bit runny. Mind you it depends on how much you put into the dish. Try it and let us know how it turns out. Enquiring mind(s) would like to know. I would par-boil the broccoli though first.

I have to say I am going to looking forward to the replies on this subject. I cannot for the life of me think of a thing. UMMMMMMMM? Maybe a few carrot sticks, some cuc slices. That should not take long to pare really and you would get some veggies in your diet. Just sayin'. LOL Then and this is just me, I would take a long glass of water. After all, this is sooooooooooooo important in a diet.

Am delving into this topic. Here in the Northwest Territories, Canada, and here in Yellowknife, capital of NWT, I surmise the fav. food might be caribou, made into stews. Fish might come second. As stated in earlier posts throughout my time here, I am not a great fish lover, except for pickerel and fortunately we get those here.
I don't mind caribou stew but someone else has to make it, preferably any aboriginal woman. And bannock probably will come with it.
We have very elegant restaurants here. Maybe 3 actually and the rest of the eateries are mediocre.
Since Yellowknife is known as the Diamond Capital of N. America, it has meaning in terms of big money for some people, hence the more elegant places to eat and the food is excellent. I made my brother last year take me to the BEST for my birthday dinner. He could well afford it. lol
One owner of those above stated restaurants is a member of Canada's Team when the contests are on throughout the world.
Take care

I give no credence to bread-makers. Make your own. There is much to be said for kneading. It is like space in your mind. Your hands do the kneading and your mind does the kneading about life, probably your own. It is good for the soul - KNEADING!!
Just my two cents re: making bread.
