Why aren't you allowed to clean up the mess? Did I miss something here? Yep, the old lady at the back seems to be causing your problem and they're probably wondering why you don't feed them as well. Try putting some food in a small corner of your yard to try to contain them to sitting in that area. Loved Naamah's replies.

Scruples: Does anyone have them anymore?
Posted: 9/11/2007 1:32:32 PM
Have only been in the Southern Highlands since March, and in this job since May where I live onsite at a motel in Bowral due for redevelopment next Feb. I was told not to take anymore bookings after January 31 next year, so I at least had a time frame to look for new work and accomm, but came home on Sunday after a nice day off to find the owners had decided to close the hotel - then and there! I have one week to find new digs and a job! I guess that's what I get for working for Dutch people - they have no morals, no scruples, no people skills, no nothing.

Does anyone own a bankbook? Remember racing in on a Friday arvo (banks closed at 3 on Friday) to withdraw enough money for the weekend? No ATMs then.

I was sitting in my classroom (age 13) watching Armstrong land on the moon (or did he?)

Marlboro were 45 cents a pack and considered the "expensive ones"; I think "Woodbine" were 32 cents and never got popular.

Bread was wrapped in greasproof paper wrapping and cost 26c a loaf. My first car was a Honda Civic (1976) and petrol was an all time high of 19 cents/litre.

I don't wanna go on! It's depressing me!

For once Howard has done something right, altho' I agree about the sport being sport thing. Unfortunately if Mugabe is going to use this as a political step up then the right things been done. I do agree with the whole human rights thing being double standard when Howard actively supports the Iraq war and continues to send troops into hostile (and none of our business) territory. I'm afraid nothing Howard could do now would change my mind about the low life.

Had mine short most of my adult life but when I divorced about 5 years ago I decided to grow it long. Five years down the track I'm feeling a bit like Barry Gibb looks. Sometimes I just feel that long hair ages and anyway, going for a shorter cut today. We'll see.

It's just me and Dean (9 yo son) for NYE tonight. I planned a nice meal to include 11 y o son (who's now sleeping over at his mates house), daughter and her boyfriend but they've gone out already, so I have spinach/ricotta ravioli in mushroom sauce, hot bread rolls, marinated olives, jarlsberg cheese, avocado dip, bottle of Merlot, and for desert individual strawberry mousse pavlovas with fresh passionfruit, kiwi fruit and bananas, cream and ice cream..... and the shame of it all is there's just me and Dean and he's happy to have a bowl of cereal for dinner. Need company!

Happy and safe New Year my friends!

Pauline Hanson, the controversial politician back at it again
Posted: 12/12/2006 12:02:16 PM
I think Pauline Hansen speaks for a vast majority of Aussies who are too afraid to voice their opinion for fear of retribution. Yes, she has balls and I think she's a voice for alot of people. I didn't follow her very closely when she was in office, but I did like the fact that she wasn't afraid to stand up for Australia.

how do you get revenge on someone you loved
Posted: 11/4/2006 12:33:12 AM
I haven't read all the replies to this thread but I do know from experience that happiness is the best revenge. If he sees that this is eating you up, he's as happy as a pig in shi*t. I've had similar, and the only thing that really got to my ex was that I'd found someone who was willing to take me and my/his daughter on. I still have strong feelings of hatred for this person, but that only makes a person ugly. Move on.... unless the law can do something. It's really hard to take the advice of not doing anything, but trust me, it really works.

I'm on the Gold Coast here as well. Nice place, great weather. Originally from Sydney, I wouldn't go back there to live. Not many Australians left there, way too crowded and dirty and unfriendly now. Melbourne? Very cultural - weather's a bit iffy. You shouldn't have much trouble finding somewhere nice. Perth's nice but it's waaaaaayy over the west side. Very clean, good weather, but (in my opinion) the beaches aren't as nice as the east coast - too windy on their coastline.

Didn't you say it's still on the supermarket shelves? So it's still available anyway. Hey, you guys own Kraft anyways, so it's not really ours anymore (again). But who bloody cares. The US should be worrying about more important stuff than banning this substance. How about a GUN LOBBY!~

Do your kids do this to you?
Posted: 10/14/2006 11:33:12 PM
Ha! I thought about the "being asleep to early" syndrome and last time I enforced this they both fell asleep. I woke them up with lamp chops and vegies (a luxury in our house - have you seen the price of lamb chops?), they took one bite of dinner and fell back to sleep. So if they happen to fall asleep this time, I'll leave them be. One had a birthday party yesterday and they've had a pretty full on weekend, so an early night wouldn't hurt. Perhaps I should be worrying about me? HAHA They get some much neede sleep, I sit here with a can of bourbon and coke and hope to God I don't fall asleep because I WILL wake up around 7pm full of beans!

Positive Male Role Model for Boys
Posted: 10/14/2006 11:20:42 PM
Good thread Pedro. I have two young boys (9,11) and no man role model in their lives. Their older sister (20) raises them with me; and interestingly I read a story in the book "Raising Boys" (Steve Biddulph) about how you can pick a boy who's "under-fathered" and one of mine fit the bill exactly. They have no knowledge of how a males deals with situations, and the only role models they have is the action heros on the cartoons. Their way of dealing with stuff is usually with swords, guns etc because that's what they see. I worry about my boys not having a positive role model in their lives, and at the moment, the best I can do is basketball.

All little boys need a positive male role model in their lives. As long as you're a good person, with a huge sense of humour, the kids'll love you.

Do your kids do this to you?
Posted: 10/14/2006 11:15:33 PM
I had planned to spend the afternoon in the park with a friend (female) and my two boys would use that time to either go have a swim (we were meeting at a park at Broadbeach, so beach was a stone's throw), play cricket, just do boy kinda stuff, and I'd catch up with a friend, have a coupla sherbets and relax. But NO. After being in the park 10 mins. all's I got was (in a whinging voice), "Im bored, let's go. I wanna go home". It's as rare as rocking horse shit that I even go and meet a friend anywhere, I'm usually at home with kids plus or working. After about an hour and a half we cut the visit short - oh yea, I forgot, I locked the car keys in the car so had to wait for my daughter to bring the spare over (quicker than the RACQ), and they whinged the whole time. Now that we've dropped the extra child home, and I'm so angry that I'm silent. I said in a very steady (probably a bit menacing too) voice, "Liam, you're in the shower first, then Dean, then straight to bed. Don't dare ask me why...... IF you don't know".

Does anyone get what I'm saying here? The one time I wanted to do something, because it's usually always about them, they ark up and carry on like spoilt brats. As I type, they're showered, and in their rooms. Hopefully, they'l both lie down and eventually go to sleep and we won't see them till the morning.

Somebody beam me up.........

Landlord follow up
Posted: 10/2/2006 7:34:16 PM
Well, after mediation the good guys one. For a change that was ME. Only paid one quarter of the rent last week, and will deduct $50 off the rent till the pool's up and running. Perhaps now he's hit in the pocket he'll get the pool people to work a little harder and faster. At this point, the pool has had the holes plugged up, but it still sits there unable to be used. He haggled and I stood firm. yay for me!

How to talk to children when mom meets woman?????
Posted: 9/26/2006 3:21:59 AM
In the best interests of your daughter, she needs to live with you and attend the school nearest to your home. Your son obviously attends this school now, so he can at least break the ice and tell her it's not that bad.

My family travelled alot with my fathers job and all up I went to about 9 schools. In hindsight I can't think of a negative about that. I met so many different friends, and as someone has already said, kids are very resiliant. She'll kick up a stink at first (maybe), but as soon as she makes a couple of new friends, and finds stability with you, she'd have to be much better off. Ditto about the grandmother. She doesn't need a troubled teen under her wing at this time. Maybe your daughter can go stay with her on weekends to keep in touch with her friends. Let us know how you go.

And about telling the kids? Well, hasn't their mother already done this?

He came and "checked" out the pool (not too closely) then just turned the hose on without even clearing out months of leaves. He's a real prick. We have a face to face mediation on Wednesday, and yes, two of my three kids have injured themselves in the pool, which I put in writing to the agent as soon as it happened (back in April). I've taken photos of the rough edged holes and now we await the pool man who keeps postponing his appointment to check out his slack job. I'll let you know. Thanks for the info. Devllish, I can't understand a word you're saying!!!

PS. After years of renting I put everything in writing - learned that the hard way. Yes, before we moved in the owner said he was going to "paint" the pool in winter as it certainly needed it, but winter became end of winter, end of winter became beginning of spring. It's now been painted but not repaired, and still have dangerous sharp concrete edges on the steps and sharp holes in the walls, that were painted over, rather than filled and repaired.

Thanks for the info. Nun, how did you know about the Form 16?

Yes we have a mediation next week with the owner, even tho an agent has management - the owner keeps poking his nose in and wanting to do stuff himself. I spoke to the RTA and they agreed that as the place was advertised with a pool that I should ask for compensation, so I served him with a Form 11 (Notice to Remedy Breach), his response to that was the Form 16 (??). We're at wits end. I am soooo sick of being at the mercy of house owners that don't want to maintain their properties - just want to live in peace and by the rules. Thanks for your advice/input all.

Just asking because I was gonna ask your opinion on maintenance on rental properties. I'm not a landlord, I'm a tenant.

Get this. We rent a 4br house/1br granny flat with pool for a decent rent, and since we moved in (March 06) we've only enjoyed about 4 weeks of the pool because of it's state of disrepair. The landlord has just had the pool painted but not repaired and we still wait to use the pool. Is it fair that we're paying so much money without being able to enjoy the benefits of a swimming pool. The owners answer to my constant questions about when are we going to get use of the pool, was to serve me with a dispute resolution notice. What's with that?

Telemarketers
Posted: 9/16/2006 10:48:03 AM
Telemarketing IS an invasion of privacy, but I've just finished doing nearly three years or that crappy job (only because the hours were good and I couldn't get work elsewhere). The job sucks BIG TIME and absenteeism is rampant. Most telemarketers hate their jobs, but they have to do it to earn a living. I've had all of the above done to me, but the air horn thing is stupid and dangerous. Don't do stupid stuff like that. It's not the person it's the company, and most telemarketers have headphones on, so you can imagine that damage can occur. Just keep your answering machine on, they won't leave a message - they'll just hand up. I've hated the job the entire time I've worked at it, and I'm now proud to say I've broken the telemarketing cycle and found myself a real job working at Movie World on the Gold Coast. Pays lousy but the job and benefits are great! I'll NEVAH do telemarketing again!

Thanks for the informative response SoTex, I love hearing other people's views. Is a populist someone who doesn't profit from war, and is actually honest? Can there be such a candidate? i guess it takes an idiot to spot an idiot. yes if the shoe fits wear it..just what in the hell do you know about our country. hilary will get dropped to her knees just like she did on her wedding night.

And you know me? I am a dual citizen US/Aus, so I DO follow your politics. You know the saying "A little knowlege is dangerous" - that shoe fits you and there's no need for disrespect because I have an opinion. There's also another saying "Never ASSUME" you know why Chl? Because when you do you make and ASS out of U and ME.

Your other comment about Hilary on her wedding night just shows me what a redneck chauvenist you must be, but you're entitled to your opinion.

An opinion from Down Under? I would think Hilary couldn't do any worse than the idiot that's running your country now; in fact her husband was, in my opinion, a good pres. You definately need to get the Bush family out of power, and I mean the whole family - they're raping your country.
