should immigrants learn English?
Posted: 9/4/2006 1:40:28 AM
Yeah if you're going to have a go at people for not making a commitment to the "Australian" way of life - you need look no further than us bloody pommies - no way am I giving up my British citizenship

I want to be able to take my children back to the UK when little Johnny brings in the draft

Look this argument is OLD - it was the Greeks and Italians then the vietnamese now the Arabic/Moslems. My personal opinion is that is just the Libs using the old dog whistle politics - start up an argument then keep fanning it - take the plebs minds off the workchoices crap and the war in Iraq and the stupid bargain basement sale of infrastructure our parents taxes paid for (Telstra).

But that's just my humble opinion

Dressing too young?

Everything goes full-circle.

You start in diapers, and many end in diapers.

Of course, that DEPENDS

Annudder

Oh I just couldn't let that one go uncommented -

Bugger it I wear what I like
and if you don't!!!

I dress like a 'goth' mostly when I go out - my friends call me queen of the night LOL. Why do I like black - cos everything co-ordinates and I can't be a***d bothering with that stuff

very poignant AndrasMith...

I'm 48 now but I still feel the same inside as when I was around 30 - so I'm still awaiting the growing up bit...

As I teach in an aged care facility I see people who are OLD 85+ and when I see them smile and share a joke I realise that if they can still enjoy life - then what the hell have I to complain about!

Love life and enjoy every day!!!

Professional knitter?

It seems a simple case of freedom of choice - he made his choice and he sadly suffered the consequences. To be consistent, with our treatment of Hicks, we should call him a terrorist and say he got his just desserts.

My sympathies to the family and friends of the guy - this war is wrong and it's sad that anyone had to die.

I'm still a pommie and this government would have to pay me to take citizenship at the moment. I'm taking my kids back to England if they bring in national service - I didn't go through 26 hours of labour to have my son end up as cannon fodder.

400 Lebanese civilians are reported dead -- at least a third of them children. From the images coming out of Lebanon's hospitals, many more children have survived but with terrible burns or disabling injuries. Hizbullah deaths are not yet close to the three-figures range.

Accusations that Israel is violating international law and using cluster grenades, which kill indiscriminately. There are reports too, so far unconfirmed, that Israel has been firing illegal incendiary bombs.

Number of deaths of Israelis at the hands of Hizbullah -- 42 at the time of writing -- more soldiers than civilians.

That's the 1:10 ratio you spoke of Mark...

Edit: this war will bring more conflict not peace to Israel - unless this is the start of an all-out offensive that has been perhaps planned for years and aims to obliterate Israels neighbours.

Oh and Netab as you pointed out while hamas has been quiet and Palestine has pledged not to attack Israel ... It does not mean Israel has stopped lobbing the odd bomb at Palestine!

Where will it all end?

Well Ali, I suppose this begs the question as to whether morality can exist in war. Personally I think that war is the antithesis of morality.

I totally agree with you - and I never meant to imply that hezbollah and other terrorists were any more moral. But Israel is beating a small country with a very big (US supported) stick and I don't believe they are right or even sensible to do so. War begets war, hatred begets hatred and so it goes on forever. I despair that we will ever learn.

It's because mistakes are made and non-involved people are killed that makes war so morally reprehensible.

Sadly you're wrong - this will not end so neatly as you hope....
And how many more innocents have to die before Israel is 'done'. And when will it be done - what is the objective rfbf - more valuable land, the destruction of 'the enemies' infrastructure?

I just watch the images of civilians in Lebanon suffering , bleeding and dying and I KNOW in my heart this is a sin.

By the way AusTrev don't try to polarise this issue using a left/right dichotomy. I may be left in my politics but I'm no more looney left than you are rabid risable raving right LOL Oh but I do read the Age so I guess in some peoples books I'm an intellectual

I remember all those horror stories about the second world war where one german death brought about the death of 10 jews (or villagers)...
air strikes on Gaza raise the death toll to 41 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier
Israel enters deeper into the northern Gaza Strip, reoccupying areas evacuated 10 months ago; 22 Palestinian civilians and militants and one Israeli soldier are killed. Two 16-year-old Palestinians are killed in an Israeli raid in the northern West Bank town of Jenin.

What can be solved when Israel behaves like this?
16 people in a van trying to flee Lebanon were attacked by an Israeli missile (killing 3 and injuring 13).
On July 24 Israeli warplanes attacked 2 AMBULANCES injuring 6 red cross workers and further injuring their patients.
- can this ever be the moral thing to do?

Why is it offensive to ask for description of occupation?
Posted: 7/25/2006 8:17:33 AM
I don't give a rats posterior if a person is employed or not - I've been there and it's hard enough to stay confident.... To me that seems like the inverse of the gold digger scenario that men fear.

But I still ask what they do for pleasure and what they do for money - just out of interest in them as a person. And if that person is lucky enough to do what they love for a living - more power to them.

I think a lot of women may think a bearded man has something to hide ...

Plus if that beard isn't maintained it can get mighty stinky.

But lets face it - you'd have to be pretty shallow to totally write off someone because they have a beard.

Some guy's really suit them too - I love goatees - especially sexy.

Do you cum when you masturbate by yourself?
If you do then teach him to use some of those techniques.

A lot of women don't reach orgasm via sexual intercourse especially if they are stressed about things.

You could also introduce sex toys too - always good for a giggle

... I'm sure he'd rather be offended for a few moments than lose you for a lifetime...

Posted: 7/24/2006 1:35:45 AM
I'm with Rust - I don't know what you mean by strong ... or how this is manifested physically... Most really strong people I know are quiet types.

A woman can be strong physically or she can be assertive or plain big mouthed and confident or she may be a single mother of 3 working 2 jobs...

I think many men are just too wary to approach any woman nowadays - unless they have a skinfull of alcohol LOL

Baby bonus
Posted: 7/22/2006 6:27:01 PM
It's NOT JUST young women - I know a 26 year old who got pregnant to A) obtain the baby bonus and B) avoid the work regulations as her last child was about to turn 7.

There will always be people who do that sort of thing. It's just sad that they don't comprehend the long term disadvantages they are going to face.

Dream - I thought the surge in sales of consumer goods (and gambling expenditure) occured when the Govt. brought in the $600 per child non-means tested bonus (election bribe)???
On a personal note - because my income varies and centrelink overpaid me ftb part B (you know the one that goes to non-working women only) I've recieved it only the once. I think a lot of families are in the same position and it's just a method of pacifying people so they don't complain about the repayments that crop up with such a stupid scheme as we have at present.

And at the risk of repeating myself - I've known severl dogs large and small who have suddenly turned - but that is the nature of the beast - just be aware and teach your children to be careful....

israel and their beginnings?
Posted: 7/20/2006 7:48:03 PM
Keep venting guys - better out than in...

No-one is right and no-one is wrong there are just degrees of bias annd understanding. I don't give a rats a*** about what happened before (you drag historyinto it and everything is justifiable as long as one is selective) - Israel is IN THE WRONG NOW. It's not a game of chess where offensive defense is a reasonable strategy ffs - people are dying here...

Oh and I note that kofi Anan commented (and I'm paraphrasing here) that while Israel has a right to defend herself the use of outrageous force has to be condemned. The people who kidnapped the 2 Israeli soldiers should return them so as to allow an end to the conflict....

Israel's defence ministers response (and again I paraphrase) our objectives have broadened now - so even if the original justification is removed Israel has another excuse at the ready.

STOP FIGHTING AND INDISCRIMINATELY KILLING LEBANESE CITIZENS ISRAEL BEFORE YOU LOSE EVERY FRIEND YOU HAVE....

Dog Attacks!
Posted: 7/20/2006 3:17:04 AM
Sadly it's just a very unfortunate accident...

The onus lies with both parties - the parents for not monitoring the movements of a little 5 year old and the owners for not securing the pen in an adequate fashion suitable for hunting dogs.

Dogs of any breed can be very unpredictable I've seen even a lovely mild mannered collie turn incredibly nasty when provoked. But people should really think twice about purchasing those dogs that 'lock' their jaw when they bite.

I don't want more rules to govern our everyday actions, I'd rather more of us learnt to use our intelligence a little more.

Yeah grey water is great for the garden but some plants can't tolerate the phosphates so you got to be careful. Cudos to the Vic state Govt. for bringing in rebates for householders investing in water saving devices...

Our garden is just too wet at the moment and some of my plants are getting wet feet. But we still use too much water because of our ducks LOL

Tattoos, piercings and a way of life!
Posted: 7/18/2006 5:20:16 PM
So Dream ans Sleeping Beauty have em - anyone else in our community have tattoo's?

I don't have any tatoos - but I am tempted after seeing a lovely sophisticated woman with several very tasty tattoos the other day. They were very celtic / graphic designs in dark colours. She had them in very sensitive places like the circumfrence of her wrist and on the bony part of her ankle. I actually struck up a conversation with her about them and she said she had them done there so that as she got old they didn't get all distorted and wrinkly... interesting point.

I have 3 piercings (and no none in my ears LOL) - I love them - I even enjoyed having them done and have to stop myself from getting more (I'd love a tongue piercing and a labret). But I'm an old fart I don't want to end up as a parody of a teenager...

So what's your attitude to tattoo's (and piercings) - does it differ when they are on a woman rather than a man and why?
