Bass Guitar Players.
Posted: 11/7/2009 3:08:36 AM
hi -I custom build guitars for a living

one of the best things you can do is find a good tech and get an awesome setup done on your bass-it will be easier to play-less work more fun

T.O. area- try the 12th fret-they are pretty high end-find the right guy -spend a little more and you will be set for life with that bass

Why is it such a stigma to be an older bachelor?
Posted: 10/27/2009 3:54:06 AM
ok so I have never been married,I lived 2 differnet girlfriends- 6yr and 3.5 yrs
that is enough for me--
-I don't need the title of previously married to appear like I am 'right on track" as far as my life timeline goes.
People that think it is a red flag probably are divorced and have 2 kids...........
so,that means they are more mature or more worthy adults........or are they more realistically people with more financial commitments and relationship bagagge to deal with??

best thing I ever did was quit giving a crapp about what people think of me, and trying to keep up with the Jones and society.

GUYS - if you are 40 ,never been married with no kids.........
SMILE,grin be happy- cause you probably have more money in your pocket
less drama to deal with
-- flick on' spike t.v' and crack a cold beer put your feet up on the table, leave the toilet seat up,buy a big stereo ,a motorbike,a pathfinder, play guitar
buy lots of cool tools - celebrate being a guy

A Very Ugly Situation - What Would YOU Do?
Posted: 10/27/2009 1:58:40 AM
wow holy !!!!!

there are a lot of people on this forum that are 'trying to stir the pot'

by poking each other with sticks in those sensitive areas, just be nice people...ok?

as far as this issue goes,ya it is inappropriate talk, against labour laws etc
but in reality people are curious about other people, other races etc....it is normal
and guys talk like that...........really they do. So do women though.....
I have dated 3 women of african decent, they were nice, they were curious about other cultures too...........it is normal,I dated a girl from Chile too.......all normal curiousity on both sides.

Are there any musicians here selling their CD's and doing well with it?
Posted: 10/23/2009 11:19:07 PM
Agreed..........

now in 2009 most people have access to gear via computer etc to make a cd
also with myspace ....etc you tube it is sooooooo easy to access music for free that it becomes a harder sell for everybody right from Beyonce right on down........
the rules have changed ...........In the 90's you could have a CD and sell enough to cover recording costs and make a few $$$ too ..............now not so much....

Law of Attraction, aka The Secret
Posted: 10/2/2009 4:41:08 AM
this stuff totally works !!!

I saw the move twice, I started to focus on getting $50 000 for free
and I did

after I got the money I was confident enough to ask out a really hot girl..
with the money I got,I took here out to restruants and shows, after the money was gone she went away too....

now I am wishing for another wad of cash ---$100 000 so I can get a girlfriend again,
maybe she will stay longer, and I can get married

I am also wishing for an suv and a big house so I can get those nice feelings of 'boy I sure made it" --now I can be happy--

Calgary: The silver lining of the recession
Posted: 9/24/2009 10:55:53 PM
-Daisy you are listed as single .....
soooooo getting married was not so awesome?

-yes marriage can be economical in SOME ways
but generally for all my married guy friends they end up having to 'represent'
IE
wife
"honey .....now that we are buying a bigger house we should do those renos in the kitchen and bathroom, WE should get those nice countertops like I saw in 'Western Living'

husband-
"yes honey what ever you think would look good"

______________________________________________________
For the most part men are simple creatures, left on our own, most men would not spend $4000 on counter tops and $600 on faucets......But being married -husband has to 'represent'

expensive

A few ideas for weathering the economy
1- train and get work in an ultra specialized field so you are not competing with 300 other people for the same job
2-live within your means....if you can't afford it ...you can't afford it !!
3-don't get married,it is too expensive

4- buy less booze......
4a- 'eat out'less.....unless you are not eating food

The guitar player's [GEAR] thread
Posted: 9/10/2009 10:38:30 PM
I have a hvlp with a compressor, but not turbine driven, that would be cool but it costs moocho money

I have a makeshift sealed rubber suit with a 5"x8" vision visor hood made of plexiglass
I wear a 3m full face mask with supplied air from a tube....I am trying to be as safe as I can on a very limited budget,I am working on it,I cringe when I see painting videos of guys spraying with only a basic mask and no protective garments.....the overspray is free to get all over them...and it does.unless you have a fan system that is pulling serious air,,,..I quit that about 3yrs ago...now I use the 'nitro nuclear suit' and supplied air,In the wood shop I wear a full dual cartridge face mask rated for V.O.C.(95)(paint pestiside rated ) --all the time
air borne wood dust is bad for humans
also I am experimenting with waterbased finishes , I am hoping to spray very little nitro .....only mostly for old gibson restorations etc

RE: tranny toaster,,ya I kinda moved away from 'power soaks and hot plate' they tend to reduce your amps dynamics -IF I use one it is only on one click---4db cut-thats it
I popped my marshall with a hot plate years ago.......but I had the amp dimed and the hotplate on -20db ---after 20mins ------pop no amp---it was fixed no tranny needed---won't do that again

The guitar player's [GEAR] thread
Posted: 9/9/2009 11:19:32 PM
Hey dudes ,awesome to see this thread happening again......it really is the good stuff

RE: nitro finishing,I paint guitars for a living,it is a pain in the asssss
to get all the gear and setup to do it right ---to paint one or two guitars is not worth it when you actually figure out materials and 'actually hours spent' ---trust me on this one
in most cases it is cheaper to hire a pro

RE: Traynors -love them,I have 2 yba-1 with the bigger trannies(late 60's before the silver bumper cases)
and a 1976 mark 3 ----try using a variac on them---NICE

RE: humbucker and 2 single coils
-my favorite setup-very versitile with the right pickup combination
with a push/pull pot on the bridge humbucker to go from series to parallel

RE: 500 k pots
I usually just use my ears - if I want it a bit brighter I go 500k or 1meg
250k 'warms it up a bit'

IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET?
Posted: 9/5/2009 12:44:44 PM
Hi guys a little note from the original poster to set the record straight..

well
from personally experience whenever a genre of music totally takes over the
top-ten it becomes over saturated and over

Is HIP HOP
going to go away soon?

thoughts?"

was my original post or topic...........since it was done 4years ago ,I feel time has answered my question. Is there still lots of videos with dudes and ladies posing infront of 'bling bling mobiles' ...............yes, but it has declined...........
Is there still fake 'pro tools hits' ?
most definitely

Note about musicianship:
one of my favorite weekly jam sessions to attend was 'the Jazz jam'
where the Jazz college students would jam with some the teachers and other jazzbos
one older gentleman would come up and do beat poetry over jazz/hiphop groove played by a real backing band................AND they were 'killin it'...........awesome

my beef originally was with over produced bling bling videos depicting ' the genre cliches intact'
my question too was with record scratchers..........are they musicians?
ya I guess, they aren't creating music from thin air though ....they need records to do it.....so do I think they are as 'legit' as a cool jazz piano player ......no I don't ,others might that is there opinion, they are welcome to it.

Honestly,it doesn't matter anymore........I am just glad that people have some spare time to make ANY kind of music

is time circular
Posted: 8/3/2009 10:18:28 PM
My thoughts

as fas as time goes........... we humans a mere fruit flies.......
as in...............does a fruit fly care what color your car is ?
No ! probably not..........why you ask?
because his lifespan is 3 days,he is more concerned with eating and living in the now
as should we be..........

all of us sitting around in a circle and presenting our philosophical theories is a waste of time

nobody knows the truth or ever could, because they were not around to see it, and time doesn't care what we think

Living Colour is one of the coolest bands,I love how that wrote hard rock tunes with groove.......Groove was/ is sadly missing from most heavy music , most metal back in the day was pretty ' viking ' sounding .....as in no groove ,just opera and viking horns

If you get the chance to hear these songs on vinyl, do it! You'll see what I mean.

I agree completely..........and to further enhance the Beatles vinyl experience..
1) skip that afternoon of school
2) go to your friend's house and smoke a big doobie
3) then crank the Beatles on Vinyl
while your make grilled cheese sandwiches in the kitchen to cure your munchies........

well.......... that worked for me back in the day

New Alice In Chains album: What are your thoughts?
Posted: 7/7/2009 4:08:30 PM
Personal ,I think it is great they are back ............awesome
I have been in many bands as a guitar player and I can say when you are in a band the singer is just another member of the band.......The WHOLE BAND works for YEARS on a project.......... not just the singer
throwing the whole band because the singer leaves is just B>S........

I miss Layne too ........but you got to remember he pisssed his life away with drugs,if you are going to be mad at any one ,be mad at him for screwing up a good thing

Thank god Jerry and the boys decided to carry on, and if you listen to the tracks it IS
Alice in Chains
Thank God they are back, because radio rock has been really sucking lately
