It has been ages since I have been on here - yet I keep in touch with so many of you still!
For those of you that wish to, I have created a memorial page for 'A' on facebook. Should you require his full name to find it, please let me know - however I know that many of the lower mainland fishes have already joined.
I encourage everyone that knew and loved him (and all those that knew him couldn't help but love him!) to please stop by and share your memories and photos.
Our thoughts continue to be with his family - his parents, his children, his siblings, and the many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins - through this tragedy, while his friends have huddled together to collectively share love, laughter, tears and overwhelming disbelief as we lean on one another.
For those that have been asking, funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized, but the information will be passed on as soon as we know...

Halo,
Very sorry to hear that you will not be joining us, and I hope you will reconsider. As the Grotto was always going to be the place where we spent most of the night, I would hate if we all lost out of seeing such a great band by not heading there in time. Do reconsider, we would be glad to have you...

OK I just called and tried to get tickets in advance - and it is a no go...
Therefore I am going to try and be at Fogg's a bit earlier, and suggest that everyone else do the same in hopes that we can head to the Grotto around 9 ish....
Man this sucks - sorry everyone

Damn, never thought of having to pre-buy!
Hmm ok - I am going to call and see if I can get a couple of tickets....
I will be at Fogg's a bit earlier than expected, but I suspect that with the expected turn out, and that it is Halloween, people head to Grotto and skipp Foggs (unless like some of us you can be there earlier).
As I said, I will try and get a couple tickets for hubby and I today, that way i can be at Foggs for those that don't get this message...
Seriously I am not a good planner lately lol

For those of you that are new coming out, I will be dressed in a pinkish renassaince dress and my other half as a renesaaince knight. That will help you find us. I would help you out more, but I have no idea what everyone else is wearing lol Take a look at my profile, I do have other pictures that allow you to see my face better, making it easier to identify me. Also my 'hubby' is simpleredneck and his picture is also in his profile...

The original poster is also known as Arduinna - and has been in touch with spud. - sorry I have been checking the event thread and not this one....However for those of you that need hotel information (though I don't think we have any other of of towners) your best bet is the Executive Inn in Victoria St. Off season rate is usually $99, it is central and convenient. Most other hotels and motels in the area will run at the same price, but are not as nice.

Just in case anyone has not caught on - I really am not checking here very often - sorry! If you have any questions, please email me! I am crazy busy lately as I am the manager for our daughter's hockey team, and it has me going 800 different directions lol
Anyway, I haven't planned anything really, except to try and get people out. So do come and join us, wear a costume, come have some laughs, a few drinks (or a lot of drinks depending on your nature lol) and meet some new (or not so new) peoples!
As I become more familiar with my hockey role and schedule, I do intend to start up some more regular Kamloops outings!

Gypsy, I suggest that you take a look at some of our profiles before you come out - we are usually pretty easy to spot, even in costume...
Gonna keep things the way they are, with Foggs then Grotto
I am sure that there may be some that will be doing Denny's after Grotto, but I just learned that we have hockey at noon on Sat *ugh* so I don't think Mr. Man and I will be doing Dennys lol

MountainMan we did a Halloween gathering last year as well and had a pretty decent turn-out - probably about 20+ people. I also hosted monthly pool nights, which I am looking at re-starting.
Personally I am torn over the Pogues vs. Grotto thing....As a group we tend to end up at the Grotto where ever we go lol So uhyeah, input from the members would be nice!

Thanks for the suggestion iamjustme - however personally I will not plan/attend/go to Thirsty Dog. the 17-21 crowd does not appeal to me, nor does the music. However I am sure that there are PoF'ers that would be interested in that venue.
riva - yeah it will be Grotto - however I did just find out that Serious Dogs are playing at Pogue Mahones... something to consider ...

Anyway... Here is the plan....
Friday Oct 31, 9:30 pm
figure we can start out at Fogg and Sudd's for a few fishbowls. I would say Central, but Rock Trivia is on and it just isn't the same any more (but I will check)
From there we will head to the Grotto (usually around 11ish). As usual, this event is open to all ages, however please be advised that unfortunately the Grotto doesnot allow people below the age of 21
I am sure that if people want to gather earlier at Fogg's you can, however as we have a daughter that will want to go out and get candy, we wont be there before 9:30 (and keep in mind I am always late lol)
Please feel free to post your input, ideas..... I MUST do something for Halloween...and of course it goes without saying, I WILL be dressed up! Hope to see you all in costume!
Look forward to seeing you all!
And yes, I do plan to revive the Pool Nights again - I am just trying to figure out the best place!

Not sure - depends on the interest... mind you with this group we don't seem to stay stationary - so maybe pub to start, Grotto to finish?? I dunno - that is what happened last year
Just in the conception stage right now to see what kinda interest, and then figure out what is going on in town

So the Kamloops crew has been relatively quiet lately - that always seems to happen in the summer, with festivals, and festivals and vacations and camping...
Anyway, I was thinking with fall under way, and kidlets pretty much settled at school, it is time to get some activities happening in da 'Loops again!
So before I run around like a mad woman, I wanted to see if there would be interest in another Halloween bash in Kamloops :)
lemme know and I will see what I can pull together!

What a weekend!!
Thanks to everyone for coming out and having such a great time! As always, it is the PEOPLE that make the event.
Unfortunately as we started to pack up our site the redneck got a service call, so we packed up, and I went home and he went to work. But the truck and car were all unpacked by 5 pm and most the laundry is done now!
Thanks to soulfishy for organizing the event again, for hosting Friday night, then again on Sat for potluck, then again Sunday - when you faded and a few of us sat around your camp fire!
While we feel like we need another 2 days off to recover from the weekend we are glad that we went and look forward to the next event!
still flying or cntrygirl - did one of you happen to pick up my chair? I left it on your site after stumbling off on Sat night.

Oh Captain, the pessimist. I refuse to beleive it wil take me that long, and then curse if it does. Last year I left at 7:30 ish and was there in just over an hour, so I am hopeful.
Pick your poison:
Soulfishy: Banana Liqueur or some other sweet and tasty thing(maybe sour puss...opposite of sweet I guess)
Puckstopper: jagermeister(or tequilla...did I hear tequilla?)
Cntrygrl73: Fireball!
Itsfun2bme: black sambuca
Pink! Tequila (Yeehaa)
Ardi and the redneck: Seriously? YOu expect me to pick something NOW??? Psh. I will show up with something.

I am too lazy to cut and paste, but we are bringing appy's for the pot luck. We are also bringing 2 12 year old girls who may be roasted over the spit by that point if they can't behave LOL
We will have a Bocce ball set as well .. this could be the BEST game of extreme bocce yet ... and I am NOT using your damned gimpy ball this time puck! I will also be bringing A535 because my body always seems to hurt after extreme bocce.
I am getting off of work at 4:30 and our goal is to leave Kamloops by 6 pm at the latest which SHOULD (depending on traffic gggrrrrrr) put us into the park just after 7pm.
I can't wait!

Hey All,
spud - Glad you got a ride, I am sure that makes your life easier! No worries about getting our signals crossed, as long as it works out for you, that is the main concern. Rob and I have no problem helping you get set up, but we probably wont be there until about 8 pm or so depending on traffic in the beer store and traffic on hwy 1 lol I am sure if you promise to hold the beer bong, the boys will give you a hand, or if you are patient, wait for us and we will get you all set up when we arrive - technically we should be camped beside each other
Sama, I am sorry that you wont be making it :(
I think the boys suck for leaving, but I will get over that lol Besides, I am usually so tired by sunday night!
hugsr4sharing, thank you for the offer - but I don't have my crap together enough to know what it is I would want you to pick up! lol
still_flying - Glad you will be staying. We can sit and get pickled togehter on Sun night while Mr. wink wink nudge nudge rolls their eyes at our ability to laugh at nothing!
Den - sorry to hear that you and your rowdy girlfriend wont be there. I was looking forward to seeing you both! I think we need to plan a night for you guys to come to the Loops!
itsfun2beme - as puck explained - pick your poison = everyone bringing a bottle of liquor (either your favourite or something that it will amuse you to watch others try and drink) and we do a round of poison. It is a somewhat deadly game, but thankfully with a large group it doesn't usually last long.
Needless to say, I am looking forward to this! Now to get everything done before Fri! I actually have daily tasks lists I have so much to do LOL

sama, I hope you can make it, but I totally understand if you can't. Sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you are ok.
Are people seriously leaving Sunday? Who all is leaving???
Please let me know if we are doing pick your poison again... I am not so sure it was a great idea last year, but if we are, then I am ot going to show up empty handed.
spuds - any word from Greyhound yet? also you need to email me and give me an idea of how much stuff you have so that I have adequate room in my car :)
By the time we get everything done that needs to be done this week, I thik we will both be exhausted lol but we are looking forward to coming out, seeing everyone, and meeting the new peoples!
Oh and we have no idea what we are bringing for potluck...uhhh I think that salads are well covered, as is dessert, so umm.. maybe an appy of some sort?

Medikat - I have no idea what sites we will all be on, but we are usually not hard to find LOL Look for the bright orange VW van wit the group loitering around it.
We may have our computer with us - only because we are having fun trying out our new highspeed wireless lol If so, we will post on this thread where we all be!
And I don't care about the rest of all y'all, I am getting excited... But it sure as heck better WARM UP!

Photos for your funeral
Posted:
4/7/2008 5:19:55 PM
I don't think taking photos of yourself so that your children will know what you looked like 'back then' is vain at all - even for me personally I have thought 'Oh I need to get a picture of what I look like with my hair at this length' or some other sort so I personally remember what I looked like!
However, to me PERSONALLY, I feel that decided which pictures should be displayed after you die, seems vain. Perhaps because I have been the one to sift through the pictures that will be displayed, and by having those already decided, you rob your loved ones of a unique time. Yes, it is painful, but it is also warming, amusing and wonderful to sit with others that loved someone like you did and share the stories and you look through pictures.
*shrug* I am not trying to crap over your idea Tyee... it was my impression that you were asking what people thought, so I told you what I thought, what works for me... but I know what works for me, is NOT what will work for others.

Posted:

No, I will not spend time sorting through photos that I wish to be displayed at my funeral by my loved ones when I die. Personally, it seems a bit vain. Not only that, pictures that I enjoy may not be the ones that my loved ones/friends enjoy. Besides, I don't take a lot of pictures, I travel with people who do lol
I would much rather have written into my will that at my funeral all those that loved me bring a picture or an item and share a story either during the ceremony, or over a beer afterwards. To me a funeral is a celebration of life, and I would be honored to have those that loved me share a special memory of me that they have.

When It Comes To Sex, Length (Of Time) Matters
Posted:
4/7/2008 3:04:50 PM
Ok.. so maybe I am different...
Yeah sure, a marathon sex session is great - if you are away, on a 4 day weekend (or longer), in a hotel room, with room service and so on and so on.. you get the idea...
But let's be realistic. On a day to day basis, I personally do not want every sexual encounter with my mate to last upwards of an hour or more. I work full-time, I have a house to take care of, I have things I need to do, and with all that sleep is important. Sex is also important, but if I have to factor in an hour + not including foreplay for each time I want sexual release, it may be a LONG time between sessions!
Quite personally, as a female, I am happy with sessions that don't take a LONG time. I would rather have sex 3-4 or more times a week, for a realistic time frame that doesn't disrupt my life or sleep!

Advised only to go to Emergency for Emergencies
Posted:
4/7/2008 2:47:35 PM
I have no desire to go to the ER unless it is an EMERGENCY. I believe the availability of this service allows it to be over-used by some, and this adds to the wait times. However, I also know that many communities are in a state of crisis right now, because they can NOT find doctors! Here in Kamloops, a city of 85,000, there are not enough doctors.
Just over a month ago I had pneumonia. I knew I had pneumonia...I get it every year, I know what the symptoms are, I know how my body reacts. I knew I needed to get antibiotics ASAP before it got worse. So I dragged my tired a$$ out to the walk-in clinic. From the first clinic, I think had the joy and pleasure of visiting 4 more Urgent care or walk-in clinics, all who told me 'Sorry, we can not take any more patients today.'
By the last one - and there were no other options in Kamloops - I was at my wits end. I explained nicely to the nurse, that while I understood they were very busy, I had been to every other clinic that was open in town, and I needed to see a doctor. While I certainly did not feel that I was in a life threatening situation, failure to get on antibiotics as soon as possible could make things difficult for me. Her comment? 'Go to ER - you probably should have just gone their first' I pointed out that I didn't feel that my situation was an emergency, she said she understood, but that it was best for me to go there, because I was unable to get care through a clinic.
How frustrating! I actually felt GUILTY going into ER, and I apologized to the triage nurse for being there. She shrugged it off, and said that there was not much I could do in a community that needed more doctors - but that I may have a bit of a wait.
A week and a half later, when my symptoms had not improved enough I had the joy of repeating the whole situation. given my situation it is not hard to see why some people just go straight to the ER even if I don't agree with it

Went to Tim Horton's drive through for my daily X-lge double double and when I finished my coffee and went to roll the rim, it was ALREADY rolled!! Anyone else experience this???
Missy I do hope that you reported this to the restaurant from which you bought the coffee. Most Tim's horton's lock their back supply of cups up during Roll up the Rim, because theft is a problem. Sounds like someone in the franchise you stopped at is looking to make money off of a winning cup, and the owners need to know!

*kicks kootgal for fun and giggles*
ahem anyway...
Putting up a pic of a child that is not his - CREEPY! That would personally make me very angry if it was my child.
Deleting his facebook and only adding her? Just as creepy in MHO. Personally I would begin to suspect that he is either married, has a girlfriend, or has serious control issues.
But I am cynical

I still haven't signed up for anything for the potluck night. Don't worry, we will bring something! If there is going to be a few kids, I will thinking I might bring something kid friendly :)

Tanning studios - would you?

I am quite proud of my milk bottle complexion and have no desire to change it. I have been to a tanning salon for a couple of sessions many many years ago, but there was method to my madness. I unfortunately have an allergy to the sun, so when I go south, I break out in hives from head to toe once I get I get into the sun (thankfully it does not affect me as badly here at home). So I tried getting a bit of a base tan to see if it would help - it didn't.
So I use really strong sun block, and don't spend a lot of time sun whorshipping. I don't avoid the sun, but I am sure not going to lay out in it!

pneumonia

I have had pneumonia at least once a year, every year, since I was 13 - with this year being the first ever that I have not had it (hurray!)
The coughing is horrible. There is little you can do about that. Try strong over the conter cough meds - check with your pharm. Usually something with codiene will help because it works on the cough centre in your brain. Do go back and see your doctor. I am assuming you are taking antibiotics, but if the coughing is really bad, tell your doc - they may put you on puffers to help strengthen your lungs.
The best thing is rest, and rest and more rest. This will kick you in the arse. Don't make plans, stay home from work, and let your body fight this. Watch for signs of it getting worse (I didn't realize I had pneumonia one year, and went to the doc becuase my back hurt. The infection had spread from my lungs into the muscles of my back, causing the pain) Also if you have a humidifier or vapourizer it may help with sleeping at night. Also, as gross as it is, if you are coughing up gunk, that is a good thing, get it out!
But bottom line, as many have stated, you need to continue to take the advice of medical professionals, not online junkies :)
