Do Engilsh girls swoon over American accents?!

I forgot about the Louisiana and Cajun accents. They are like southern accents with French influence.
I can see how California accents can be considered "neutral", however, I've been told that many people in the Midwest speak with a "neutral" accent. I've heard people with my accent from California, the Midwest, Canada and other parts of the country. Maybe because of television, radio, and modern transportation the accents are becoming blended and faded.
I've noticed that people in Florida are different than me in the way they pronounce the "a" sound in "cat" and "yeah".

"WTF is an "American accent"? The US is is so large that there are several (about ten that I can think of off-hand) distinct regional accents. I am sure there are some I can't remember."
That's right. In the Northeast there are Boston accents, New York accents (I've been told that each of the 5 boroughs are a little different), Vermont accent, Maine accent, a number of Southern accents (Texas is different from Georgia or South Carolina I think). In the Midwest there are a number of accents too. I'm from southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana. The Chicago accent is disgtinct. In Upper Michigan, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, and I think part of Canada, they have Scandanavian influences in their accents. "Ya! You're from Minne-soota, eh?"
There are other Midwest accents. People from southern Indiana and southern Illinois sound almost like they have a southern drawl, but not quite. Missouri has it's own "twang", I think. President Harry S. Truman was from Missouri and talked with that twang.
Also I've noticed that people from Arizona, and even parts of Texas have accents that sound like they have Hispanic and Native American influences.
Arkansas, Kansas, and Nebraska have distinct accents too I think, although I don't know if they're distinct from eachother.
Ok, this was a very long post. lol sorry about that.

simplelady66,
Sorry, I didn't mean to stereotype. There are alot of nice people here in New England. (I go to college in Vermont). I was thinking that maybe the people I perceive as "cold" aren't even really trying to be mean.
For example, in NY near Albany I was paying the toll on the Thru Way, and the employee told me the price, but I didn't quite hear him so I asked "how much did you say?" and he goes, "Just what I said, three dollars," in kind of an annoyed tone.

I actually agree that people in the States don't know as much as they should about the rest of the world. Even Canada which is just north of us...it's right there, but we never go.

"Some of these people didn't seem to know that the Dollar wasn't used all over the world and that there wasn't a Wallmart in every town in every country."
Wow, that's amazing...are you sure they weren't just trying to be silly? Then again, there are some surprisingly uninformed people out there. Not just in the U.S.
I have a friend from London, and we were talking about history. He seems to not know much about anything. History, politics, etc.
I don't have a passport either. I was planning on maybe getting one soon. We need them to get into Canada now. Many Americans don't have passports since our country is so big and we're separated from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia by vast oceans. I guess travelling from state to state for us would be like travelling from country to country in Europe.

I was referring to cold attitudes in New England...not the UK.

I've never been to L.A., but in alot of big cities there are classless people. In much of the midwest, southern states, and rural America, people seem very friendly, though. In L.A., New York, New England, and most big cities, however, you'll find people who have pretty cold attitudes in my opinion.

Well, my mother was a single mother and I wasn't born and raised into a rich family. I'm actually going to college on loans, but as for the idea that you're pretty much stuck in whatever situation you're born in, I beg to differ.
As for education, I support vouchers. Everyone should have a right to education, and parents should have a right to decide where to send their children to school. Personally I think state-run public schools are a joke in the U.S.
Racism exists everywhere.

Unfortunate :(
I actually heard similar things from an Aussie just yesterday. She noticed I typed properly with capitalization and punctuation, and she figured one of my parents or both must be from another country. She was shocked because I seemed pretty knowlegeable about the world, cultures, language. As she put it I seemed pretty "cultured". She said it was surprising for her because she has a bad impression of American schools.

Feisty,
I talked to a guy from California who lived in Australia for awhile. He said that some Australians told him that Canadian tourists get upset sometimes if they are asked, "are you from the U.S.?"
Therefore they ask, "are you from Canada" just to be on the safe side.

Greeneyes, I love the Boston accent! Although there are different kinds I think. The JFK accent seems to be the one that many people consider to sound more "elite". Dropping the R's on certain words can sound interesting.

Although there is more than one accent in Canada, many Canadians who I know have accents that are only slightly different from my accent. I'm from Southwestern Michigan/Northern Indiana originally.
There are some differences and they seem to have a tendency to sound more proper, but I don't want to generalize since I haven't met every Canadian out there.

Yeah but just like a car, that plan backfires when you rack up 300 000 k's
Who wants a car that has had that many 'test drives'?"
Good point! I agree.

waiting until marriage

Why are some people on this post so mad at the OP? He's looking for a woman who shares the same values and beliefs as him. Why wouldn't somebody want that?
"but from all the profiles and discussion on here it leaves me with a question. does anyone wait for marriage anymore?"
He's actually right about the discussion and profiles on POF. Who can blame him for being discouraged? He also makes it clear that he is not necessarily looking for a virgin - just someone who shares his belief that sex is for marriage. It looks like he is a reasonable guy. He wants to find a woman who shares his values and beliefs, but he also understands that human beings are not perfect and many people today unfortunately lose their virginity before they marry the right person.

waiting untill marriage

I agree with you, OP. I wish more people waited until marriage. Fortunately there are still many women who wait, so it's not impossible to find one.
I also understand that many people today make mistakes and nobody is perfect. It's very difficult to wait these days with all of the pressure from peers, media, the internet, etc.
The thing that upsets me the most, though, is when people try to make premarital sex seem like the norm, or when they act like there's something wrong with waiting until marriage.
Keep up the search. I hope you find the one.

Nothing wrong with a 30 year old virgin. Many people are virgins at 30 because they have chosen to wait (not because there is anything wrong with them).

You can meet a guy almost anywhere. We are EVERYWHERE! Go to a bookstore and find a guy you are attracted to. Talk to him about what books he is looking at...
"Hey, you like military history? Military history is so fascinating to me."
The conversation is generally easy from there on. Alot of times guys are very eager to talk to women when the woman starts the conversation and shows interest.

What do guys think about a girl contacting them first?
Posted:
1/4/2008 4:24:59 PM
Message the guy first. We love this! Trust us, it's hard when we always have to approach the women. If a woman makes the first approach, the guy will most likely be flattered. It shows him that she finds him attractive. A guy has no way of knowing that women find him attractive (unless they approach him, flirt with him, or flat out tell him). Outgoing ladies are my favorite! If a woman plays hard-to-get or pretends that she doesn't notice, then I usually believe her and pass on by.

I agree with previous posters that you should seek a professional to help with this. Do that for the sake of your grandchild. This relationship has "unhealthy" written all over it. If she and her boyfriend are doing drugs, then that's enough for authorities to take her kid away. Parents who attend swinger parties are definitely not showing any signs of responsiblility. I would worry about doing what's best for your grandchild first. That should be your first priority.

I don't think you should try this while you're working, but here is an idea I thought of just a little while ago...Walk past the romance section when you're in the bookstore. Since most of the people in this section are probably going to be women, you might not have a hard time finding a good-looking lady here. If you see a lady you think you're interested in say something like,
"Hey, can I ask your opinion about something? I'm trying to pick out a gift for my sister who is a major fan of romance novels. She says she really loves (name of the author of whatever book the lady is looking at). Would you by any chance be able to recommend any good titles by this author?"
Since you're a guy, the woman will probably understand that you are clueless about what romance novels are good. Remember, women love to be asked their opinion. Most women would probably be happy to help a guy if he approached them in this way. Women love to be helpful...especially when assisting a helpless guy. What do you all think about this idea? Is it a good one?

Yes! Alot of people. They are mostly "professional" types who don't even crack a smile. I hate that. And then they ask you a question, and when you answer it, they ask a question about your answer or why you answered it that way. I seriously want to say, "look, you and I both know these interviewing questions are just balogna....just go ahead and give me the job, ok?"
