Are the nephilim and Jesus related ?

Thanks for your response consigliere31, it's an interesting take on interpretation.
I'm unaware of anywhere in the bible it states that they ruled over anything, earth or elsewhere. They are just stated as the offspring(the nephilim, that is) of "the sons of God" and the daughters of man, and that they were men of great " renown" . I haven't read anything that states the "sons of God" ruled over anything either. Please direct me if there is info I have missed.
Another curious point, for me is, of course the bible would be insufferably long to mention everything about creation, so I take it that it would only address pertinent
things. Why does it mention them at all but yet not really explain them.... "the sons of God" or the nephilim.

Are the nephilim and Jesus related ?

In the KJV in Genesis the nephilim are refered to as a result of "the sons of God"
impregnating the daughters of man.
Jesus was the result of God impregnating( causing to conceive) Mary(a daughter of man).
So these other "sons of God" (who were their mothers?) would be half sibs to Jesus.
Would that make their offspring (the nephilim) neices and nephews of Jesus?
Yes, yes, for all that debunk it (the whole Bible thing), lets just leave that aside for just a moment and consider the lineage possibilities.

Morels schrooming in high gear!
Posted:
5/8/2008 10:48:54 AM
Hey all!
I love them cooked in butter w/ garlic(vitamin G), onions. Throw morels in last and cook til just a little juice is left. Take a piece of french bread cut in half and spread the
'rooms on it then top with your favorite cheese(not too much, don't want to smother the 'room flavor) then pop it into the oven broiler or toaster oven and heat til the cheese is melted and browned a bit, remove and enjoy!
I have them growing on the hill in the backyard. When I first moved here there were only a couple that grew out there. Since I've been here(11yrs) I've been spreading the woodash from the stove around on the ground where they grow. Now I get several dozen a season.
Also when there is enough supply, I dry them on paper towels, after washing them
with the vegetable sprayer on the sink. Once they are dried I take the paper towels out and put them in the yard under leaves to start them growing in that area. This works well but they do take a couple years to get going well. I have the yellows, greys, blacks and peckerheads. Oh what a glorious bounty!!!
For those that don't know what they look like, google 'em!

Is death rather than life our teacher
Posted:
4/9/2008 12:34:36 AM
Hey OP, I can see what you're saying, I think(when I can), maybe a better description
may be that death is an invaluable advisor. Treat each and every action everyday as if it were your last act in life, in other words, like you said, make every second count!!
Do everything (that you do), to the utmost best that you can muster, for it may be the last thing you get to do in this passionplay. I guess here would go the part about not putting things off also.
My brother passed from HIV related probs. He told me that after he found out that he was pos. [ he got to live the usual (at that time), 10 years],that his priorities got a huge rearrangement. Advised by the imminent/inevitable looming in on him, not that he knew which day he would pass, but no amount of rationalizing could put off the fact.
Have you read any of the Castaneda books, I wonder?
As John Lennon put it," You can't live a life until you die!"
Oh well just a small slice of my ramblings, good thread!

Speaking In Tongues?
Posted:
6/6/2007 8:48:58 PM
Not to flogg an already "dead post"lol!
Maybe I wasn't real clear in my original post.
My question was/is where in the bible does it state that the speaking in tongues is anything other than someone speaking in another language(a real, actual language)
that they did not know before they started speaking it in the spirit?
Peace, let's live and let live, please!
Thanks to ALL that posted.

IMO, as little as it may/or not be worth, any "all powerfulGod" that has to have people do it's killing for it, deserves to be viewed with at least an arched brow of suspect.
I believe that Dylan arched the brow, as it were, with his line "For you don't count the dead when God's on your side."

Speaking In Tongues

Hey all!
Thanks for the responses.
See, the idea that it was speaking in the languages
of the nearby locals was what I took from KJV that I have as a reference. I just couldn't
see the connection or transition to the unintelligible that seems to be all that is left of it
nowadays. Funny how these things get started, 40 to 4000 interpretations and your supposed to believe it's real and yet the myriad of puporters can't agree on only 10 versions, much less just 1. It only leaves me to ....go figure..?

Speaking In Tounges
Posted:
5/9/2007 9:03:38 PM
Oops!
Yeah tongues, not tounges thanks.
I dated a gal a couple decades ago who belonged to a nondenominational church some of which practiced what they called speaking in tongues, which to me sounded like gibberish, but according to them, was understood by the holy spirit. I thought that they had said they took this from the pentecostal sect. If I'm wrong on that that is what the pentecostal speaking in tongues is please accept my apology in advance and ..... enlighten me....Please.

Speaking In Tounges
Posted:
5/9/2007 8:41:08 PM
Hey All! My question is this.... When the apostles were ascended upon by the spirit
and started speaking in tounges, I thought the other men around them recognized that they were speaking in the tounges (or languages) of other cultures around them, not in an unintelligable gibberish(or so it seems, don't want to offend anyone in any way) that seems to be what is taken for speaking in tounges these days. Please enlighten me!

Testosterone and the Ring Finger
Posted:
5/9/2007 5:53:55 PM
Whoa! ..... Peace!
I still maintain that you shouldn't necessarily have been a man, but now I'm definately of the opinion that you shouldn't have been a math teacher!
I was merely relating the scenario the show had arranged to show a (possible) correlation between the difference of length of the fingers mentioned and a testosterone level in the womb.
And it was not who could learn better, faster or whatever(between male and female)
but of the women that they had arranged to learn how to drive these large machinery!
You'd have to write the show and ask them why they chose the heavy equipment to have the women try to learn. I am guessing that none of the women participating had any previous experience at operating the equip. It could have just as well been men that had no previous experience learning how to operate the same equip.
Hey I don't believe in "only place is in the home " or barefoot and pregnant, but thanks for assuming that for me! I have great respect for peoples potential to learn
or be at whatever roll in society they choose to be! And not all women have been below or behind men throughout history. Look at the Scythian amazon women warriors of western Asia!
I am glad ,however, that you got a great laugh out of it!
Keep on smiling, everybody's prettier when they do!!!

^^^^^ Not necessarily so. I saw the PBS special also, I found it "very interesting "!
It seems it related more to aggression, in the show they had several gals that tried to learn to drive large heavy equipment(like earth moving) and the one who caught on the fastest and best was the gal with the greater difference in finger length(1st and 3rd).
She evidently approached the task with greater, shall I put it, hunger to learn.
Also, I'm not sure if it was mentioned, the guy that predicted the winner of the foot race was correct in the placement of the other runners, with the exception of 3rd and 4th, he had them switched.

Dog People
Posted:
4/28/2007 1:36:44 AM
Hey all
All my buddies have been pound or rescue refugees, no remorse! I had a Great Dane that was 190lbs. I called him a half lap dog..... that was all that would fit! He used to love to sit on my lap in front of the woodstove and doze off(actually we both loved it!). I'd have to make him get down and lay on his bed, before he fell off. What a noble old soul!!! Ripped my heart out when I had to have him put down because of a bone tumor on his head 5 yrs. ago this november. I still get choked-up if I dwell on it too much!
Now I have the knothead in the photo, he's redbone coonhound/lab mix. Quite the character too. He also enjoys lapnaps, he however fits much better being a little dog at 84lbs. I have a warped foundation to go by.
They're always good for at least a dozen laughs a day! Red, the current one, has to perform a post-dinner parade after every meal, a buddy (human) of mine calls it a "victory lap" but it goes farther than that. He has to go get a couple of his favorite toys(parade implements) and trots from one end of the house to the other at least 7 or 10 times. And all the better if I "act" like I'm trying to catch him as he goes by, a running of the gauntlet as it were.
They are better people than many humans and that's a sad thing to say especially that it's sooo true!!!
May the creator bless all the 4 legged(or less) family members and the 2 legged ones that are lucky enough to realise what a blessing they have in their lives!!!
Take care all and ruff on!!!

Can't afford to buy any.
But from what I've read, "ingesting" takes longer to start but lasts longer. The trick is to keep it in your mouth as long as possible, so that it absorbs through the lining of the mouth.
I can't remember why but it is blocked or somehow otherwise not assimilated from the stomach or intestines.
Maybe when I get rich!

Light Pollution !!

Hi all.
I live 12 miles east of St.Louis, Mo. in the metropolitan area. Grew up in this area. I was in the hot springs in Bigbend Texas around '90-'91 laying on my back, enjoying the heat(it was a cold Jan. night), enjoying the night and the stars! Now I don't know all the constellations by sight, but I am very familiar with Orion and a few others. Laying there that night at least 30-45 min. before I realised I was staring straight at Orion. Around my home in Il. there are 30-50 stars in the midst of Orion maybe, a few more than that but nothing like the dazzling,
blurring, myriad of twinkle that obscured that usually, easily spotted, constellation.
What a shame!
I worked 15 yrs of midnights and soon became insomnic trying to sleep during the day. The slightest light in the room if I woke up would prevent me from any hope of falling back asleep.
I found at a local discount store weather stripping for the window that is a tract of plastic
with adhesive on the back, that is a groove and has a plastic tube that snaps in it. I put that up on the inside frame of the window and stretched black plastic over the groove and snapped in the tube. Worked really well! Just a tip.

Origins of Religion?
Posted:
1/29/2007 11:42:53 PM
I've long wondered just when and where did the idea of religion, or more appropiately, the idea of a supernatural world or supreme being originated ?
Perhaps a clan member long ago witnessed a fellow clan member get struck by lightning
appear dead then restruck and brought back? Beginning the idea of a supernatural realm.
Or maybe the delirium of a fever that one survived and built on from there?
Then where did it progress from just the idea of another reality higher or other than natural, a supernatural realm to animism to deism to deities to monotheistic?
Entheogens? Crisis cults? Devious power mongers?
I'd like to know what other people think about this.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Purphilos.
Friend you've obviously not checked out sombients' profile. If she's a he she's gotta be one of the hottest men around!
Now on with topic.
I wonder if, as sombient inferred, that it couldn't be hooked up to something that would
shoot it right through to a marker on the surface of the mitochondria. But I suppose it'd eventually make its way to the liver.
Or perhaps used in conjuntion with an endostatin( again as sombient mentioned) that would keep tumors that might start on the liver from getting a blood supply.
Truly, it is sad that so many only do something to help if there is a pay off for them.
Industrial, medical and right down to the individual!
