The sharks of the world are lingering low
A hundred million killed each year you know
That's one hundred ninety point two each minute
We're killing them off and now they can't win it
And when we go too far with slaughtering sharks
The age of humanity will die real dark
For we need the shark if we are to live
A trade for our life is what they can give
For sharks feed on fishes and crustaceans too
Which all feed on algae, and green plants it's true
So without the sharks their numbers will jump
And fat on our lifeline these all will grow fat

Thanks Brizo. Nice of you to drop by and share those thoughts with me.
- REIGN OF STROMATOLITES -
That they wrestled with darkness from deep inside
But conscience found no champion
The explosion that shattered the beauty pristine
The rot of greed that hurled so deep
No science to share with death on their lips
No voices of reason among greedy hands
The butchers of mother who shear off her gifts
A profit foretelling the songs of the echo
And in her constancy they cheer
But behind them she nods as her children are slain
The lopping of bodyparts sheer mutilations that suffer the hope without any dawn
A longing for more and ever hands reaching
No matter to think with, no matter at all
Hacking and killing the untold beasts
Day and Night without a respite
And she in disgust now closes behind them
A smile bittersweet for all that has passed
Her hands many billion that now reign the humans
Hers hands many billion to suffocate all
A sentence for life that they forced upon her
Please kill us great mother for we have been foul
Oh for the tears that she will now weep
Pain in the gripping of billions alike
Squeezing them all, freeing her kingdom
Only the tiny shall her grasp spare
Only the smallest shall hold dominion
Fade off humanity
Fate for most life

THE DOBERMANN
Posted:

Hi and thanks for posting that. The Dobermann is a really great breed but does require firm but gentle correction and a mentally strong owner to maintain control of the animal. They are naturally protective of their owner and loved ones so one need never train them for such work.
I am a firm advocate of the principle ( and fact ) that there is no such thing as a "bad dog". There are bad owners, and bad genetics. Unfortunately for the breed, dobermanns suffered a wave of immense popularity for years! They were second only to the poodle in popularity in the AKC for a LONNNNNNGGGG time! This means too that when a breed becomes popular the demand goes up and unfortunately this leads to indiscriminate breeding practices which produce extremely nervous, high strung, and unhealthy dogs. Popularity is absolutely the worst affliction that ANY breed can suffer. It always seems to draw the folks who are just out to make a buck.
The Dobermann, as magical and brilliant as it is, is NOT a dog for everyone. It has some taxing needs between exercise, training, and companionship if it is to be a good and well adjusted family member. I have had a few other breeds, in fact my last dog who just died a few weeks back was a brindle boxer and was an absolute delight. I loved my Boston Terriers, and my Shar Pei, My Timber Shepherd, a few mutts, and lab-mix, mini-dachshund, etc. But when it all boils right down to it, if you are a high energy person who wants a strong minded, loyal, and fun companion in a medium/large package, the Dobermann is an unbeatable breed.
Thanks for sharing your recollections and experiences with us here. Have a great day! Cheers.

If you could stop the clubbing of seals
Defenselessly bludgeoned regardless of squeals
If you could stop killers who slay for a buck
Who say that it's needed as they run amok
If you could shake government like Stephen Harper
Who protects destruction while numbers drop sharper
If you could stop biorape by Sarah Palin
Endorsing industry so Belugas are failin'
If you could tell Japanese whale poaching slayers
That the world abhores them and all their perveyors
If you could mute Glenn Inwood from speaking
Preaching extermination that he's seeking
If you could tell Taiji bay fishermen loudly
Stop slaying dolphins and tainted meat proudly
If you could help polar bear suffering starvation
Or Narwhales just butchered for horns and frustration
If you could do all these things that I list
Wouldn't you feel good and never remissed?
Truth is you can act and that your voice matters
If you are willing to speak up fear shatters

Talk to your local representatives. It does not matter where in the world you are, or what your nationality is, all that matters is that you speak up and do your part. The smallest to the largest effort, to inform others, contact government officials with concern, support initiatives, clean a park or a beach, recycle waste, support the environment, it all matters. IF you are willing to stand up and make a little effort.

THE DOBERMANN

Hi colehillady,
Teddy sounds like a great dog and I have always enjoyed working with rotties. My boxer just recently passed away and I often think of a striking simularity between these two breeds in that they both tend to be big clowns who love to play. Rottweilers always have that wonderful "happy-go-lucky" quality about them.
One of my favorite dog training stories ( well a few of them actually ) involved a rottie named Brutus and his charming owner. A very friendly and manly sort of itallian guy straight out of New York with a heavy accent and a real heart of gold when it came to his dog.
Brutus was not only his first rottie, it was his first dog ever. He had never owned a dog, had not been around dogs very much and was absolutely clueless about everything and anything with dogs. He sought me out for basic and later advanced obedience training. He was reading everything he could get his hands on to learn about Rotties and dogs in general.
He reminded me of the doting parent when it came to Brutus who he even called his boy. "Dat's my Brutus Erik! Ain't he just beautiful? I mean he's a tough dawg! I don't mean fightin' tough. I wouldn't you know, fight my boy. But he's all musculah and stuff! look at him! Ain't he gorgeous Erik?" He said proudly in his thick accent.
Now I would NEVER tell an owner anything different about their dog regardless, but it just so happened that Brutus was an especially Nice looking young rottie! And a monster! At 11 months old he was already pushing the 138 Lbs mark. Most Rottweilers do not stop physically growing until they are 18-20 months of age. His "boy" was destined to be 165 Lbs or so.
He spoiled this dog to death, loved it like crazy and was just the best kind of owner in that he was eager to learn and to help his dog enjoy the training process. He was also immensely proud of Brutus and would baby talk the dog endlessly.
He enjoyed basic obedience so much that he later enrolled for an advanced obedience course. On the last day for the graduating class of dogs and owners they had one lesson to go. The Long sit and stay.
The way the exercise works is this. The owners and their dogs start on a line. They then walk about twenty feet to a second line and do a come about. The dogs automatically sit and the owner then gives the sit and then the stay command both verbally and with hand signal. Then the owner walks back to the starting line and turns to face their dog. Hands at the side and without any signaling to the dog. The dog must remain in a sit position for two minutes before a recall command is given. After the recall a come about is given and the dog winds up swinging around behind the owner to wind up sitting on their right hand side. End of exercise.
Well to set the stage for you at the time I had a Chinese Shar Pei and a Boston Terrier. My Shar Pei was at home but my little female Boston was off in the grass to the side of the group waiting for the class to end so we could go home. I had one trainer assistant watching the row of owners. I had another watching the dogs. I was in the middle watching both. The class was about 8 rotties, a german shepherd dog, 2 labs yellow and chocolate, a medium sized mutt, a small mutt, a dalmatian, a beagle, a smooth chow, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
So as Brutus sat patiently his owner brimmed with pride. Unable to contain himself the man rocked ever so slightly on his heels eyeing his boy happily. Then his lips silently began to praise Brutus in his normal baby talk. Now even without sound this got Brutus excited and interested and slowly his rump began to come up.
In abject terror the owner now looked mortified and stiffened up silently praying that Brutus would sit back down and terrified to signal him but still trying to. And being a sharp dog Brutus notice the posture change and lowered his rear co cking his head a little as if questioning the owner. Relief came across his face and soon he again brimmed with pride and repeated the behavior and Brutus once again began to rise. Again in horror he stiffened up just begging brutus to sit with fearful eyes. Once again his perplexed rottie sat and stared in a confused look at the owner.
This routine happened four times without the owner grasping what was happening or why. I was trying not to laugh or to let him see that I was watching the whole situation. I was also tracking the time for the exercise. At about ten seconds beofre the recall Brutus spotted my Boston terrier Goblin, over off to the side of the area in the grass and he looked at his owner as if to say, "Sorry boss, I just gotta go check out the little dog!" And up he went prancing happily over to meet my Boston. Now to make matters worse my Boston Terrier loved people, but not other dogs. She was VERY alpha and easily attacked other dogs if they did not heed her warning growls. She always went for the lips or the tongue and I had seen her attack everything from pitbulls and rotties to boxers and labs. All the big dogs in my neighborhood were terrified of her and left her alone. She never chased them far, and she did not attack if they heeded her warning growls. But Brutus was young and happy and saw no threat in the little 12 lbs Boston.
He follwoed her sniffing at her rear and she doged behind a tree and then a large landscaped rock before giving him the warning growl. A growl he did not heed. In a split second there was a snap and she was after him. The poor Rottie ran smack into a chainlink fence and sat hunched up as far as he could go while she gnawed with her almost nonexistant tiny nub teeth on his back hocks. He howled and cried in agony as if she could and was actually hurting him.
I ran over along with the owner and gave her the release command and she backed off still with her hackles a bit stiff. Brutus was delighted to see his owner and hid behind the guys legs staring at Goblin. But his owner was really freaked out. He seemed in shock and looked at my dog stating: "Oh my Gawd, yer Dawg kick my Dawg's ass!" I knew it conflicted with the macho image and was quick to try to help him save face with his perception. I quickly explained. "Well actually my dog is a female and yours is a male, and male dogs almost never attack a female!" He got a look of recognition is his eye and then thought about it and said; "So he was just bein' a gentleman?" I nodded. "Exactly!" Then he spoke to Brutus "Well that's very good boy Brutus becaws we nevah hit goils! Evah!" And then I followed up with "AND she's an adult, and yours is a puppy, no matter how big he is he's still a puppy and she knows that and so does he. Puppies always give in to adult dogs!" And again he felt better and then said "Ohhhhhhhhhhh, well that's good too becaws we nevah sass our elders! Evah Brutus!" He was quite the character. So macho.
At any rate there's more to the tale but I have rambled long enough. Thanks for sharing your tale with us! Have a great day! Cheers.

Hi Neptunia and mp2414,
Thank you both for sharing those thoughts and memories. They are really amazing dogs I think. I love all dogs, big or small, mutt or purebred, but once you have experienced a Dobie there's just something about them that keeps you hooked into the breed. Maybe it's the fact that they do think and react differently than so many other dogs. Hard to say. But they are definately a stand out breed.
Thanks again for writing in and sharing your thoughts on this thread.

SOME THOUGHTS ON FAITH AND INSPIRATION
Posted:

This is actually from a discussion and e-mail I shared with a Mastermind group but I thought I would post it here as well for other readers:
For me there is always inspiration in the things that I enjoy. So when I am seeking inspiration it is in the world around me. I have only to make a short journey to find inspiration. Often I see things that I find amazing and inspiring in small places.
One afternoon for example, I was kayaking on Sarasota Bay when I stopped and beached on a small sand bar just outside of the first channel that bisects Siesta Key. I have often stopped there and rested on treks when crossing Big pass. So as I stood in my wetshoes ( for "non-water tribe" sorts, these are a type of shoe designed to have a very heavily protected soul so one does not step on oyster shells or other sharp or dangerous items in the sea floor, and they keep you from slipping on wet decks ) and glanced out at a flight of Pelicans, I remember smiling as I reflected how much they always remind me of pterosuars from the prehistoric ages. I could picture Pteradactyles in flight, gliding low over a primordeal sea. ( Speaking of inspiration ) But then I noticed a small pool trapped temporarily in a pit in the sand. The tide was slowly rising but it would be a while before the grass pit was exposed to the surrounding flat. There in the little pool I watched a wonderful little nudibranch as it glided slowly along amidst the substrate.
This caused me to crouch down for a closer look. There were little saltwater hydra and polyps, as well as spiral cone snails, conchs, and grasssnails. There we a variety of copipods scurrying in darty jerky motions and also tiny sea snails. I saw grass shrimp, and then micro shrimp in mottled oranges and creams, also in browns, reds, greens, and translucent. As I looked on I spotted a glass shrimp and a few Ghost shrimp. There was a tiny burgundy coloured pipe fish with little dark blackish bands and then a pair of greenish coloured Atlantic Seahorse babies. The pool also had several tiny tiny hermit crabs and a few baby glass minnows. I even spotted a small arrow crab. All in a pool that was no more than four inchs deep in the widest section, and was about two feet long by a foot wide.
As I squatted there marveling at the life I was inspired by how rich and almost invisible this tiny world was to the majority of larger creatures. So easy to miss and yet so beautiful and complete. This entire cross section of life was all in a pool that was little more than a saltwater puddle with some trapped grasses and moss.I marveled at how easy it would have been to miss this and how lucky I was to have noticed it. It made me wonder how many worlds we miss as we look around us and yet are blind to the details. It made me reflect on how busy we are with our own world and perception while the rest of life goes on all around us and oblivious to our oblivion.
It is from life that I draw this type of inspiration. From wildlife and such. Sometimes inspiration comes to me from art or creation and I look at things and feed my hungry imagination the fuels to burn it's own interpretations from the fires I tend inside. Music and poetry and colour and principles fill me with awe and inspiration and I really get a sense of both how tiny I am in the grand vast universe, and also how powerful and united I am with nature and the planes of existance and it's laws. I am grateful for the heart to see this for it takes more than just eyes to notice what is often right in front of us. When you view with your heart your vision is always true. The heart may be wreckless in some of it's longings, but it is perfect for vision and faith.
Faith is a great concept because really what is faith? It's trust.
It is absolute trust. It bears no proof or need for testing. If you have faith in something then you trust it is so. Whether that faith is religious in nature, or behavioral, or an idea or principle. Faith is trust. Do you have faith? If you do then you have trust in whatever it is. So trust is synonymous with faith for it is the same word in a different spelling. Now trust may be earned, but where faith steps beyond merely being trust is that faith does not need to be earned. It is a trust that we are willing to stake all bets is correct.
So when I look for faith I need to ask myself, is this logical for me? Not is it logical period, rather, is it logical FOR ME? If it is, then I can have faith in it. Sometimes it does not require reason. But if you are inspired by a thing or idea, then you may find yourself also trusting that and thus you will have developed faith in this thing, whatever it may be.

- IN MEMORY OF SONJA -
My wonderful grandmother
Yesterday I felt it
The void
The emptiness
And today the phone call
Ninety-one years of incredible memories
At last faded
A passing that tears at me
My closest family member
My dearest childhood memories
Oh and the stories
The survival of World War two
Hiding my grandfather from the Ghestapo because he was a policeman
Her brother Leon imprisoned in Denmark by the Germans
The most decorated freedom fighter and war vet in Denmark
The years after
The travels and adventures
The quiet times
And a thousand memories all passing with her
A great treasure lost
A great void in my soul
But my love for her will be eternal
That can never die!
Jeg Elsker dig Mormor! Jeg skal aldrige glem dig. Du er i mit hjarte altid! Favel Fru Pedersen. Jeg kan husk alt. Tak fra Erik.

- WIND DANCE -
Winds sweep endlessly across the desert in storm
Eating at the red and cream sandstone
Carving slowly a form of elegant decay
Converting rock to sand that must serve it's master
Wind racing and kicking the sand into a flurry
Dust devils dancing in the wild
The same wind that enslaves water and vapor now dances the earth
And in it's passing there is a renewal
A silent relief that treats in the sun
Hollowed giants that defy for a time
But ever lossing their war with the unseen

THE DOBERMANN

What a wonderful rememorance of Duke! He sounds as fabulous as anyone can hope for in a dog. The Rottie/Dobie is a great mix. They are both "people" dogs in a very real sense and as you no doubt observed by his selection of who to offend, excellent at character assessment.
I got started in dog training when I used to have a kennel raising and breeding Dobermanns back in the 80's. I had to learn dog training as Dobies are not a dog to suffer foolish owners without them really running mental rings around you. I had a party once at my place and had four of my dobies ( my personal pets ) inside the house. I recall a guest swatting his three year old son on the butt for jerking the doylie table runner that had the chips and dips on the coffee table. Oh man all h ell broke loose as three of the dogs ran up and snatched the boy away by the seat of his overalls, and wisked him safely to a corner. The dad was then hit in the chest by my alpha and she pinned him to the couch without clamping down, but with her mouth held threateningly over his throat. The folks panicked thinking that the dogs had attacked the crying boy. Maiden was licking him and trying to comfort him when well intentioned bystanders approached the dogs to "Save" the little boy. Of course seeing a crowd approaching the boy the three dogs used their rumps to keep him back to the corner as they then bristled at the approaching crowd. They were of course thinking that the people were coming after the little boy to harm him. It took a second or two for me to diffuse the situation. What a mess. I had to call Trip off of the father with a quick "Release!" command. Then telling the crowd to back off I made the three dobies drop with a hand signal.
Once the father realized what the dogs had done to protect his child he was extremely impressed. He told me privately "I had no idea your dogs were THAT child protective that they would go for me for punishing my son." I told him "Me either!, but do me a favor, in the future, if you have to physically swat him, take him out front where they cannot see it." He agreed. The crowd of friends were also impressed when they realized what the other three had been doing for the child.
Up to that point I had never seen my dogs react like that, and having no children around or of my own it was an eye opener. I soon found that all of my dobies were big softies with kids. They tollerated pinching, let's dress the dog up in people clothes, let's pour sand in his ear, etc, etc without more than a protestory grumble. It was truely remarkable.
I think that in all of the years working with dogs and different breeds I have things that I like about all breeds whether mutts or purebred, big or little. Dogs are amazing animals! Thank you so much for sharing that reflection about Duke.

THE DOBERMANN

You cannot outrun it. You would be hard put to out manuver or out think it. In fact if you were a danger to it or it's family you could very easily find yourself in a very dangerous situation. It will go for you with gusto and relentlessness that few other creatures will. It can jump amazing distances and hights. It can reason and problem solve. I can climb and do a variety of things to acheive it's goal. And it is always thinking.
This is the image and reputation of a breed that was designed for protection. A breed that is known to be a manstopper. But there is a gentler and softer side to this seemingly fearless animal. It is a kind natured dog with a great deal of devotion and passion for it's family. It loves ( like all dogs ) without reservation or judgement. It has it's health concerns and nuances that can present an owner with problems.
But overall the Dobermann Pinscher is an incredible breed and has many traits that make it unique both from a behavioral point of view and physiologically as well. So let's start with the origins. It was bred in Thurungia Germany in the 1800's by Louis Dobermann who was a tax collector and also had a few other local offices in his home town. Among them he was the local dog catcher. He had a hard time often collecting taxes because of the various powerful and dangerous breeds that were often kept by the folks he was charged with collecting from. The rule of the day was simple, if you could make it to the front door you could generally collect the taxes due. But to keep him out a variety of dogs were kept in yards he frequented.
Louis needed protection from a dog that was capable of fending off the dogs he was having problems with. He started out experimenting with various breeds, but none of them worked out all of the time. Rottweilers could stop other rotties or mollosus type dogs but were too slow to fend off the now extinct alsasian pincher, smaller faster dogs could not stop the power of some of the larger breeds. Some dogs just lost their nerves in the face of problems or multiple dogs.
He needed to rethink what he was doing. Louis had access to many dogs at the town kennel where he worked as city dog catcher, and so he began to cross breed dogs to create an unstoppable dog that could protect him against all commers. His first dog that met the bill was a dog named Schnupe. This was the first Dobermann Pinscher although it looked nothing like the modern dobermann. It had a black and tan body and was stocky, clever, and a bit shorter than it's modern counterparts. There were some wire hairs among the coat, and of course the breed had a while to go before being perfected. It was actually a man after Louis who perfected and created the modern breed, but the credit still goes to the originator and the breed bears his last name.
Schnupe was fearless, strong, and blindingly fast. The local dogs soon backed off after encounters with Herr Dobermann's incredible dog. Suddenly in Apolda, tax revenues increased sharply and the powers that be wondered how it was that Louis was so successful compared to other districts? When it was discovered that he was breeding a new dog type the breed was in high demand. Loius distributed twelve dogs that he felt met the breed ideals that he had been trying to fix in this new dog type.
So how do you make a Dobermann Pinscher from scratch eh? Well the recipe goes like this. Take one part Rottweiler for its strength and loyalty, add in one part Alsasian Pinscher ( anscestor to the modern German Shepherd ) for intelligence, endurance, and aggression, add one part Black and Tan terrier ( also extinct in it's original form ) for tenacity and problem solving as well as bounding and flexibility, and then finish off with one part greyhound for speed, agility, and sight hunting, and you have a Dobermann Pinscher.
The Dobie is an affectionate loyal dog that is really a "hands on" type breed. This is not a dog to be left alone without company in a yard somewhere. If it gets lonely or feels neglected it can become destructive in it's efforts to gain attention. To any breed of dog remember that negative attention is better in their eyes than no attention at all. The Dobermann is too smart to be left to it's own devices. Bored dogs can quickly become a nuisance or a liability.
Dobies are actually quite friendly and affable in spite of what their public image may seem to be. They generally like people although they are defensive of family and property and will view strangers with a keen and judgemental eye. If they do not know the person they may be very aloof until they have decided whether or not to trust that individual. They have a keen sense of people as well. If your dobie repeatedly refuses to accept someone even after many attempts at gentle indoctrination and pursuasion, be aware of this! There is a problem with the person. Trust the dogs judgement. They often know better than us. Years of working with the breed and training dogs has taught me to understand that even in situations where I thought the dogs must be mad to not like or trust a certain person, they always turned out to be correct! They are excellent judges of character.
Dobermann's are called "The dog with the human mind" and this is absolutely true. I do not care what show or book or documentary that you see to the contrary of this information, the fact of the matter is that the dobermann is EASILY the most intelligent of all of the large dogs. If you want my top 4 in order of intelligence here they are 1). Dobermann Pinscher 2). Standard Poodle 3). Border Collie 4). Weimaraner
Note that these are large breeds. I think that most trainers will agree that there is a vast difference both in life span and intelligence between the larger and smaller breeds. Most large dogs tend to live an average span of 10-12 years whereas smaller breeds tend to live 14-18 years or more in some cases. Also smaller dogs tend to be a bit sharper and smarter than many of their larger counterparts. Likely an adaptation to their size. They have to reason better in order to survive ( or would if they were wild canids such as foxes, jackles, dhole, fennec's etc ) and dogs follow the laws of nature regardless of their domestic creation or developement.
The Dobermann is actually a very long lived large breed averaging 15 years. The ONLY large breed with this average span. They are also prone to be unique when breeding. VERY large litters are not uncommon and it is a good idea for folks who desire to breed their dogs to think carefully and plan ahead before actively engaging in such practices. How big? I have had dams produce 22-26 pups before. On the low end I have seen litters of anywhere from 8-16 pups. The mother dog only has so many teats which means long hours of bottle feeding. A lot of work. Also there is a huge problem in the world today of unwanted animals. It is best to have your dog neutered unless you have some really good reason to be getting into this undertaking.
Dobermanns tend to be healthy overall but like many breeds are prone to certain ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, liver problems, Von Willebrand's disease Wobblers syndrome, eye problems and orthopedic problems. In rare instances also subject to cerabral edema. They should not be exposed to extreme cold.
Ideally they require a lot of time and exercise. A large yard is not enough, this is a working breed that needs to be walked and will treasure your company.
My experience with the breed has shown that most dobermanns of sound breeding have a remarkable affection for and protectiveness over children. Not just their own children either. Dogs can tell the difference between a child and a dwarf for example by the scent. Children ( like puppies ) have a higher level of magnesium, potassium, and phosphates in their bodies. These are among many of the scent markers that make them easily indentifyable to dogs as juveniles.
They are often remarkabley patient and forgiving with children where they would not tollerate the same abuses pinching, biting, pulling, etc from an adult human. For those who think that the dog will "turn on the owner" that is absolute nonsense. Dobies ( and most other breeds as well ) are subject to a plague of foolish urban myths. I have had people tell me in the past that "Did you know that dobermans are kid killers?" I have to laugh and feel sorry for their ignorance. There is no such thing in my point of view as a "bad dog". There are bad owners and bad genetics, but many breeds are subject to undeserved stereotypes. I have trained dogs for a long time and heard the same alegation about pitbulls and various other breeds. "Did you know that pitbulls are the number one kid killer in the usa?" Again I laugh, but I am happy to correct such foolish and unfounded notions. Actually, for the record, the number one dog responsible for more child deaths in North America is actually the German Shepherd by a large margin. This is also not to knock the breed for shepherds are wonderful dogs as well. In most instances it still boiled down to improper socialization, and ultimately bad owners. In some cases where shepherds were concerned it is also linked to a chromomorphic condition whereby the lack of melanine in white shepherds ( a condition that has been resolved mostly in recent years ) has been responsible for neurological disorders that has affected aggression and behavior.
The point here is that there are many many myths about dogs of all sorts and regardless of what type of dog you may wish to aquire it is always best to get reliable information from a variety of sources and then compare common information and make an educated choice from there.
Dobermanns eat a lot and are a strong and compact dog that is deceptive in it's appearance. Even dog experts who are unfamiliar with the muscle density of this breed, often underestimate the weight of an adult dobie by 15-20lbs or more. These dogs can weigh between 66 - 88lbs ( 30-40 Kg ) and stand 23 - 28 inches ( 59 - 71 cm ) at the withers. Colours include Black and Tan, Red, Blue, and Fawn. There are attempts at white and some of these dogs do exist, however they are not recognized in show or by most breed clubs. The Dobermann Pinscher is recognized by : AKC, FCI, UKC, KCGB, CKC, ANKC.
AKC - American Kennel Club
FCI - Federation Cynologique Internationale ( Europe )
UKC - United Kennel Club
KCGB - Kennel Club of Great Britain
CKC - Canadian Kennel Club
ANKC - Australian National Kennel Club
This breed is used in police work, land/sea/air rescue, guide dog work, military work, protection, obedience, and of course is very popular with families. These dogs are true deep thinkers. Their abilities will amaze you. This is a wonderful breed that is not for everyone, but for those who are willing to train and spend time with these dogs they will be rewarded by an unparalleled companion, and protector. They are loyal, brilliant, playful, and exceptionally demonstrative with their owners. They are also quick to pick up on the owners feelings and emotions.
The most heavily championed and awarded dog in the history of the AKC was a Dobermann named Borong the Warlock, that was shown back in the 50's and early 60's. They are easy to groom and maintain. This is a breed that I heavily recomend to any firm but even handed and loving owner.

- THE MAGIC LAND ( DENMARK/DANMARK ) -
Standing silent on the train
Farms of mark shrouded in fog
Storks framed well in rising orange
Hunting fields for fish or frog
Walking on the sleeping street
Magic pulses through the ground
Here the magic never failed
From the times no longer found
In the air a life unique
As if breathing in a thing
That explores your very soul
Then enhances your living
People smile and speak a tongue
Rooted deep in times of olde
And the flag oldest on earth
Speaks of Gods and people bold
Plants and animals seem better
Something fills them with more vibes
Nourished by a slowing time
Fueled and rich from ancient tribes
Waters shallow in the fjords
Purple starfish in the bay
Swans that swim where Vikings fished
Seagulls rule the skies by day
Oh the magic like no other
Fires forged that never died
People who still walk the spell
More than simple grounds of pride

- THE BRICK GARDEN -
A moss grown brick in a forgotten yard
Laying on side with holes it is scarred
An old red brick beside a small pond
Weathered and worn, left from beyond
But inside the first hole packed in with dirt
The tiniest flowers grow without hurt
Little white blooms with small yellow dot
Sheltered and lively and never too hot
Around them the green moss lime coloured so
To contrast the flowers and yet make them glow
The next hole has a small and red sundew plant
With one of it's leaves curled up around an ant
The last hole has plants there that look like small clover
They flourish and spread out and spill forth all over
What a grand garden so wild on the old brick
One cannot top nature inspired and so slick!

- THE SERPENT SONG -
I can feel the serpent song
That evades your ear
I just know where I belong
Though that brings some fear
Others fear what they dont know
Except dumb or daring
How can you bask in the glow
If you loose the caring?
I can hear the serpent song
Vibes that chill the weak
I am ever in quite strong
For the paths I seek

Emenations
Light in bloom
Heat on path
Moving
Flowing
Touching soft
Whispering in silent support
Brilliant spectrums
Deep thoughts

Damping Rainbows into aroras
The play of the faint
The refreshment of purpose
The electric tingle

- MY HEROS -
My heros are folks you may not know
My heros are those who stand for good
The ones with desire to think and grow
Who dont always do what we think they should
My heros dont wear capes or bend steel
My heros cannot fly without a machine
My heros are those who care for the world
My heros are children who keep the parks clean
My heros are folks who rebuild from disaster
My heros help wildlife and animals needs
My heros volunteer at homeless shelters
My heros give time, and money, and deeds
My heros dont need to be in the news
My heros hold doors for others when walking
My heros fix flats for stranded strangers
My heros will listen when others are talking
My heros help children to find their way home
My heros train guide dogs to help those they can
My heros share smiles with elderly people
My heros have hearts that are big and grand
My heros are black, and white, and all colours
My heros are older or young, any age
My heros all come from all different places
My heros are beautiful on every stage
My heros are men and women with heart
Their courage for life is amazing and strong
My heros have goals that set them apart
My heros seek truth to overcome wrong

- MIND SHIFT -
Too much chaos in their mind
Knowing only failing faith
See the prize and yet be blind
Still well bound by inner wraith
Seeking one to make them whole
Yet their chance they pass each day
Until when at last they see
What they seek has pulled away
When you cry unto true gold
It will weather salty tears
Luster still is shown untold
Though reforged throughout the years
So I tire of the games
From the ones who do not play
Hypocrits the women strange
Lost by choice in muddled grey

- CHANCES -
If you knew me you might say
This one's a big anomoly
A paradox from another age
But live with modern technology
The horseman who drives today
A swordsman without the need
An artist in a world still grey
A talker who can do the deed
Dressed up to work, but works to play
Strong but silent and soft of word
Always survives anything thrown
Humor quite sharp, deep, or absurd
Knows the ettiquette when with Royals
Knows the cultures of distant land
Whether it's science, art, or life
These are all things I understand
Philosophy or the dark side
Children and animals are drawn
Reasoning, thinking, solving in mind
Skills that to many are long gone
If you had hoped for such a thing
Why would you pause on the seeing?
And once the chance fades to another
It's you to blame for self freeing

- THE HAND OF A STRANGER -
The hand of a stranger writing a note
While seated at Borders book store
And my in an aisle looking at books
My mind seeking out to explore
A movement just in my periphery
A sight from my angle so grand
No view of the woman to which it belongs
Just a ledge and her beautiful hand
I'm not a fetish person obsessed
With anyone's hands or their feet
But I can admire an elegant form
Like the hand that I saw from my seat
I glanced and I noted the long slender nails
Painted and then glossed to a sheen
The way that she held the pen as she wrote
A note to my eyes just unseen
The pause as she thought and tapped her nails
Like the drumming of some tiny being
The way that her fingers moved once again
And I thought of the hand I was seeing
I wondered a moment at her soft skin
And what her fine hand may have known?
I wondered if it was well held?
Or if her hand was her's alone?
I wondered if it was an artistic hand?
That painted or drew oh so well?
I wondered if it was an athletic hand?
From where I thought it's hard to tell
I thought of that hand gripped soft in mine
I thought of that hand stroking face
Of what her nails would feel like in hair?
Of what things her hand could erase?
How odd that a hand so perfect and nice
Should carry such thoughts in this place
I got up and left not wanting to spoil
The thoughts with a person or face

- WATER VOID -
As the winds blow strong
Across the endless sea
I need to stear my boat
To where that land may be
I need to clear the storm
Before the wave give rise
Beneath the calm of sun
I know the tempest lies
I follow gulls across
To where the promise rests
I paddle hard and strong
Can I withstand the tests
The Mako looks at me
As if to say "Hi Lunch!"
But I am not that weak
I pack a mighty punch
If only I keep strong
And push beyond the pain
There's got to be some land
Surely I'm not insane
I know the thirst so well
The sea I cannot drink
This is a living Hell
As I bake to the brink
The night is dark and soft
When I can't take much more
But then the crunch of sand
In dark I've struck the shore
There are no words quite right
There is no way to state
The relief with the light
The fade of gloomy fate

- WHAT IF? -
What if you opened the cereal box
But found it full of cheetos?
What if all that made the stocks
Were blank and incognito?
What if you woke up in a pool
With a gator staring?
What if you set aside the race
Not competion sharing?
What if the folks you thought were weak
Were friends in times of need?
What if you could not see the goal
Or your soul was not freed?
What if the toxin from above
Was seeping into you?
What if you chose to lend a hand
To enemies untrue?
What if the crisis in your heart
Was nothing more than fear?
What if you stood when counted out
And made your mind so clear?
What would you do if you just changed
And all your world seemed strange?
Would you withdraw and hide away
Or jump now rearranged?

Apparently the Norwegian and the Japanese are jealous of whales, as they persist in poaching endangered whale species such as Minke and Fin whales. There is an international moratorium on commercial whaling, but the Japanese and Norwegian governments and private interests don't care. As long as there is a yen or a kroner to be made, these greedy @#!&^%!@#'s will continue to deprive the world of Cetaceans.
There's more about it on my website, under eco news.

- THE LEAF -
It fell so far away from home
The wind that swept it and was blown
The leaf that browned as Autumn's fodder
That landed soft upon the water
And sailed along like micro boat
A moment as an insect float
Until it sunk to rot at last
Unleashing tanin from it's past
The water softened by the leaf
A passing gift of rich bequeath
That fuels the tree roots deep below
So in the Spring new leaves may grow

- SILENT GIANT -
Silent the giant in the cold sea
Swimming with grace so easy and free
Straining the krill from the polar flow
Plankton and richness from deep below
Oh how the giant is long and sleek
Powerful beauty yet gentle meek
The wanderer vast in the ocean pods
Just trying to live and defy the odds
Silent it seems but not if you listen
So grand is the song that mankind is missin'
What songs will be sung if the giant is gone?
How long will the chain of life go on?

ERIK'S TIDES IN THE BRACKISH WATERS -
The Serpent's in the attic
The Norseman on the beach
The wolves pace is fanatic
The eyes so out of reach
The women they can see him
The men can feel his will
Some think he lurks in dark whim
While others bent on ill
A sword lies in the closet
His artwork in the Hall
And memory's deposit
It tries to forge a wall
His car is old and cluttered
The mind is fresh and strong
Before him those who shuddered
See where the Gods went wrong
The animals will side him
And children close in too
Alone with art and music
His counsel strong but few
The omnipresent matter
Is shifting by his wake
Before him fame will scatter
To win but still mistake
To nurture Halls of Giants
A poem for Queens and Kings
A genius still defiant
Who set his will in rings

- THE RIGHT SPOT! -
Oh how I wonder and ponder deep
While talking to Dianne deprived of sleep
If I had myself a pheasant feather
Where is the tender point altogether?
Could she be ticklish beneath her feet?
And would she tell me? Or share deciet?
How can I find out the very best spot?
Oh Goodness sake, what a problem I've got!
But not to worry for I am a thinker
Broaching the subject I play and I tinker
Then to my liking the spot meant to please
Oh yes Dianne, it's the back of her knees!
Will I forget this long before the cruise?
Will my mind fade out as if it's confused?
Even though written down here in this poem,
I'de still remember where ever I roam!

- THE STONE -
The old stone sits so firm and so strong
They shelter beneath it when weather goes wrong
They rest agains't it when life makes them tired
Or climb to the summit when they just feel wired
The stone they have carved on and left it to stand
It's textures and form so worn and yet grand
The stone sits alone without any more
An icon supportless before what's in store

- JAH JAH DATS FOR SURE! -
Ashley my friend no icon is needed
A Viking is stealthy and at times conceited
And just like the poem with you that he'll share
Sometimes deeper meanings come out unaware
As long as I'm here a Norseman will be
Present on the site, though some may not see
But just like the farers from Eddas of old
In times of great turmoil I'll bring back some gold
So glad that you're doing much better indeed
And when the times wear and you have a need
Just summon your friend and I will stop in
To bring you some insight or just a nice grin

- AMBIGUOUS PROFILES -
Ever see profiles with multiple gals?
Where three to six women are shown?
Ever wonder which one might be her
Since she has no pictures alone?
You read the descriptions
She posts with a cheery grand voice
"It's me with some of my friends!"
Unless you're a psychic, what choice?
Then the description in "About me"
"I'm the one in every photo!"
The only problem is all of your friends
Are there in each pic so we don't know!

- HOLIDAY WISHES -
Hi and thanks for posting here,
I'm glad to bring some laughs and cheer,
Some insights too from my warped head,
And some things better left unsaid,...
But in this season warm and fun,
I hope to share a little sun,
And wish you all the very best,
Stay strong and healthy, live with zest!
