@Landra: I am merely stating the facts. You are the one bleating "shame on you" for going out to grab a burrito or slurpee. By flipping the tables on her, there would have been an argument. It has been my experience that if someone catches a male and female in the middle of an argument, they will almost always side with the female. If this someone is a cop, I could get in trouble. If it is a guy friend, I could get into a fight. She could easily make some stuff up and get me in trouble. I was almost a foot taller than her. At first glance, who looks like the threat? One of my friends actually thought it was her way of hitting on me. I actually thought that was wrong, because that is kind of a dangerous and backwards way of coming on to someone. The taco place was next to a couple of hipster bars, so I was the outsider.

Late last night I was at a taco place where I ordered something to go. My order was ready, I grabbed it, and headed for the door. There was a hipster girl in front of me taking forever to open the door, thereby blocking foot traffic. Then she accused me of stalking her. I never saw her before in my life. I said "No, I am not". She then grilled me, like a cop, on what my business was in the area, where I was headed to (I said home), and then where I lived. I was quite offended by this turn of events, and I believe this kind of behavior is commonplace. A month ago, a woman drunkenly stumbled into a straw that was sticking out of my Slurpee, and then implied that I was trying to grope her. My friends have similar stories. It seems that men have to constantly be walking on eggshells, and are seen as dangerous before they even say or do anything. I also believe that this kind of stuff is only happening to certain guys. I believe that being dressed like a preppy worked against my favor in this situation. If I had the whole hipster thing going, perhaps she would have perceived me as being in the "in-group" and would have felt safer. I have found through observation that this type of female paranoia occurs mainly around guys who would be considered "lame" by the woman. In others words, to them, attractiveness = morality. Has anyone here experienced such paranoia before? Why do you think this occurs? Is it a sign that gender relations have really soured?

What I find disturbing about the original post is that the OP equates nationality with ethnic background. Nationality is supposed to refer to what country you owe allegiance to, and ethnic background deals with ancestry. There were a lot of people in New York City who made that mistake and it is disrespectful to the host country. Another thing, why is this in the Dating forum? For what it is worth, my nationality is American (United States). My ethnic background is 1/2 German (Bavarian) and 1/2 Italian. People can never guess I am German; they usually go with Italian. Bavarians, by the way, are the darker of the Germans. I can sometimes pass for Greek, Russian, Ashkenazi Jew and even Arabic if I get a good tan.

Women are definitely flaky... at least to me. 1) I had six dates with one woman, she was ga-ga over me, and then cut me off because I would not sleep with her right away. 2) I slept with this woman twice (dated her 4 times) and she subsequently ignored my calls. 3) Several instances where the woman is ga-ga and then completely ignores me. We live in such a disposable culture where no one gives a hoot. But the way things are going, I am going to have to approach dating like a robot. And if that is the case, where is the fun in it??

Women (and men) for that matter are by nature predatory. Niceness is a sign of POSSIBLE weakness. Hence, a prime opportunity for the aggressor to go on the attack.

According to a popular site that provides demographics on medium to large websites, the ratio of male to female visitors is actually quite even. For example, 52% of the visits on POF are by males. Other big dating sites have similar stats. I think the problem that males run into may be that women are simply more selective.

While it is true that Doug scored someone out of his league physically, Carrie is really mean and psychologically abusive to him. In almost every episode I have seen, she is yelling at him and trying to change the essence of who he is. I believe that Doug was either on the wrestling and/or football team in high school and/or college. Women, like Carrie, dig that sort of stuff, so she married him. As far as I am concerned, she married someone who was pretty dumb, and now she constantly tries to "better" him in an effort to poo-poo the thought that she may have picked the wrong man. Not fair to him at this point in the ballgame. What really struck me is today's rerun where Carrie dictates to Doug the type of sexual fantasies he can have. What kind of psycho is she???

Well I went to a magnet high school where the mean SAT score was 1400, so you can imagine there are a lot of smart women in that environment. Well, the women there were uber-nasty in terms of personality. Women who are more intelligent know how to push the right buttons to make people feel upset, and know how to better manipulate people. Sad but true. Unfortunately, I am attracted to intelligent women, so I am screwed...

There's no need to get pompous here. You think I am going to sit here and sample thousands of people? I do not have the time for that. You take a look at the top 500 and go "well, no problem here". How sophmoric is that? I took 50 men and 50 women roughly my age randomly from around the Chicago area and ran some numbers. If I took another 50 i would likely get similar results. And if there is over 1 million users, having only 500 crack 8.12 should say that the rating is harsh. Granted, most people choose not to have their picture rated, but the harshness would still hold.

Its not the image rating system itself, its the fact that people on this site are hostile and are giving really low numbers out of spite. Like I said, I do not want to initiate contact with people who dish out 1-3s, and they look like they are pretty widespread. My method is fairly statistically sound. I have done advanced research in psychology and have used some advanced statistics. A few people are bound to get 9s. The 500th person got 8.12 I believe. I bet you dollars to donuts that far more than 500 people got below 2.88.

The rating system is indeed stupid. I took a sample of women and men and the average woman got 4, the average guy got 3.5. It is a big blow to the ego. I think this site is just full of bitter people who want to vent their hostilities toward others. That makes it a noxious environment to meet people. Why would you want to approach people when they are giving you 1s, 2s, and 3s. And the ones that give me much higher, perhaps they are just being desperate and do not actually like me. Yecch.

I like to do the James Brown song "Living in America" at karaoke. So last night, I was performing, and at the end of the song when he screams I clutched my heart. When he is supposed finish off with "I feel good" I went "I feel bad!" and feigned collapse. The DJ was like "WTF?". Very dark humor, I know. But honestly, I am sad to see him go.

I agree with guy. A lot of women would not mind humping a random guy in some club, but somehow they are afraid of meeting for coffee for someone. Could it be because the coffee date actually makes you think? I mean, what is the guy going to do, molest her right in a Starbucks? It is ridiculous. I suspect most women on this site are on to give their egos a boost. They view the guys here as "damaged goods".

I do not know if anyone else, but large portions of Queens have been having a blackout for almost a week now, and only now is it national (US) news. It is amazing that if anything happens to Manhattan everyone is like "OH MY!!", but no one cares about the outer boroughs. What a bias, it is sickening. Queens has a higher population than Manhattan.

I think it is important that you go on meds; 1 out of 8 people with bipolar commit suicide. Not good. It is not a perfect solution, but it is better than the alternative. Bipolar meds include Depakote, Risperdal, Zyprexa, etc., look them up. I think a lot of people do not seek treatment for their bipolar because they are in denial. In pop psychology, bipolar="crazy", and who would like to admit that they are "crazy"? Of course, statements like "everyone has bipolar" or "it is made up", and people like Tom Cruise only confuse the situation. Remember, in almost all circumstances, being proactive is better than being in denial.

It is like I have to hide a part of myself from everyone, and that could be very stressful. Star Trek is a well-made show with good actors, and excellent themes. It has a horrible plot. It has this cult because someone cool proclaimed it was cool. And the concept of acting out a movie has the potential to be fun: but why only Rocky Horror? Sounds like kool-aid mentality to me. After doing Rocky Horror 100, 1000 times, why not be creative and apply the skills you have learned to another movie? Oh, but that would not be "cool".

Balboa is 60, but he can play a character in his early 50s. I mean heck, people in their mid to late 20s have played high school students. The sad part is that no one will really give it a chance. The trailer looked pretty good. Also, no one will see a movie starring a billed Italian unless it is a mafia or mafia-style movie, because the movie-going public has no imagination. They think all Italians were in the mafia. Maybe that is why the poster before likes Oscar.

Hey all I know is that I went to a school where the average SAT score is 1400. Hardly anyone got laid. I suspect 1/2 the people did not even have genitals. My friend, on the other hand, went to a nearby school with average SAT score of 1012. There was lots of "action" to be had. Flash forward 9 years, and the ones going to the 1st school are still getting abysmally lower attention from the ladies than the 2nd. I think all the "geeks" are hot responses you are getting is due to desired response: the women do not want to look bad in a public forum.

There are plenty of clubs even in the larger cities that play the same stuff ad nauseum. The difference is that you can avoid those places and go to some hipper joints. I'm into hipster music (though I am not a hipster myself). Like Franz Ferdinand, Bravery, Elkland. No one here has heard of them. I go to the Loft during the week. It is ok, but I fear that during the weekend they blast the hip hop. Is this true?

The problem is getting worse with the slow death of commitment. For instance, traditionally, a man would court a woman for marriage. He would quickly realize that he may not be able to pull the best-looking women, so he would focus on the ones he could get. Almost every man got a woman, and vice versa. Maybe not the most desirable, but at least they have companionship. Now that marriage is not seen as compulsory, men and women will hold out longer (sometimes forever) to wait for "the one". To make matters worse, the media is full of desirable men and women, so that inflates everyone's expectations. So now more people are going for only the "best" men and women. Not that I think everyone should get married, but this phenomenon still takes place. What's not helping the situation is the whole "b*tch-ho" mentality, fueled in large part by the hip-hop and lolitas that have pervaded the bleak musical and media landscape.

There was a girl I dated who had no vehicle and lived in Central Illinois, where you really need one. To me that was a big negative, because it was hard for her to move around everywhere. I did not like the power dynamic there. Granted, there were some issues involved, so I cannot say it was a dealbreaker. If she could do things easily without a car (e.g. lived in Boston, NYC) it would be a different story.

Well the USA and Canda are dominated by the Anglo-Saxons, so the standard of beauty is to look more like them. That is why you get a lot of blacks and Jews get nose jobs, and blacks and Latinos straighten their hair, and why brunettes dye their hair blonde. And it is also why a lot of ethnic celebrities cover up their ethnicity and go with a nice "whitebread name" (e.g. Dean Martin, Jay Leno, Woody Allen). It is a shame that people will go to such lengths just to fit in.
