First Line, Last Line (Part Deux)

I am home
After so long
A journey started
Many years ago
Many places seen
Many people visited
Long miles passed
Strange and wonderful
Friends and lovers
Filled the space
And the time
Now to rest
Lay me down
And fall asleep

The fantasy was me
Dreaming of blue skies
The smell of pines in the air
My hair blowing in the breeze

In this dream, I walked
Down old dirt roads
Maples whispering to me
The earth wet and ancient

You are there as well
We hold hands, as we did
When we were we lovers
Long ago when life was young

KW Edelweiss Singles Night Pictures Thread - Nov 3
Posted: 11/5/2010 1:52:25 PM
Hi Everyone and thanks for coming to the Nov 3 event!!!!

Once again there was a scary moment (not so much for me) where it looked like no men would come out and we would have dozens of women. In the end a number of guys did show up ... but there were still more good looking women at the event than could match up with the guys who came ... tsk tsk...

Next event will be hosted by the charming Harpwood (and probably her intrepid assistant MJ Preston).

Pictures will be uploaded over the next little while :)

Come out and join the bi-weekly KW Singles Night with your host - CharmGuru! (Co-Hosts "No-Toil" and "Harpwood" )

This is a great chance to meet new people and maybe find a little romance! Leave your deadbeat married friends to watch TV at home, and come out to have some fun!

This is the pictures and comments thread for the KW Singles Night held on Oct 6 (with your charming host - CharmGuru! )

We had a couple of people interested in co-hosting - which is fantastic. I really appreciate it. Also a photographer came and took some great pictures. Hopefully we'll get them up on the site soon.

I left a bit early but I would say we had a good turn out of at least 20 to 30 people over the night. Lots of new faces. A few from the past. Lots of joking and fun and introspective theory about dating (Rob!).

I have told Edelweiss to book us for the next 3 weeks - so Oct 20, Nov 3 and Nov 17. I will put the Oct 20 party thread up in a few days.

Kitchener Weekend Dance - Fall/Winter 2010 Discussions
Posted: 9/30/2010 4:49:49 PM
I have been asked many times in response to the K/W Singles Events I am hosting at Edelweiss whether I can host a weekend event such as a dance. I've been very busy on weekends the last few months and it would be difficult to do without a fair amount of help.

Many of you have said you would co-host such an event. If you are interested in helping and would like to discuss different choices I have put this post up. Also if you can volunteer to offer a service (such as a DJ service) you can use this thread to discuss that.

Because this is a POF event - we cannot have any out of pocket. If we find a venue that charges their own cover and will be happy to let us have our own DJ then we're fine. We cannot pay the venue and then collect payment for same from attendees! This is a firm and fast rule!

Let's discuss. I've considered places like Transylvania club and Knights of Columbus as options for places that I've heard might accomodate a fairly large dance.

Given past dances ( there was a big Valentines day a few years ago) it is entirely possible 200 to 250 people would come to such an event.

So here is a place to discuss and plan this event. We need input from people who know and can help with this venue.

Thanks -- look forward to your comments.

There are a bunch of people who would DJ. Next event (Oct 20 I think) I'll include a
"we are organizing a weekend event" etc...

I'm going to start a message thread for people interested in planning a Kitchener Dance. Post there when you see it. It will be in the Ontario Forums.

What is a Player?
Posted: 9/30/2010 4:38:52 PM
I'm going to point out a major flaw in your list.

Many, many items are simply personality types and you're going to leave the impression that everyone with that personality type is a player.

Players are dishonest. They sleep around and don't tell you that they are doing that. If you take out 1,2,3,4,7,10,11,13,15,16,17,18,19,23,25,29,33,34,36,38,39 then I would agree with you - but just because someone moves fast doesn't mean they're a player. If someone is charming that is NOT a sign they are a player. It's a sign they are charming :) If they date around their home - they just may prefer to stay close to home. I did the long distance thing - never again.

If they come out and tell you they're seeing other people - then they are not a player - plain and simple. Might be a man-whore and might just be a very intense man who is passionate (maybe two ways of describing the same thing) but by virtue of the fact they are honest they are not a player.

Just my $.05

Hello everyone and thanks for coming out. I have to run (literally) to my car so no images until later tonight or tomorrow.

About 25-30 people came out (I did not count but we used up a sheet and a half of nametags so it has to be in the 30ish range). Good range of ages too. MANY more women than men this time. Guys - you gave up last time because there were 3:2 men to women - well there was 3:2 women to men (which suits me just fine by the way).

Look forward to seeing you on October 6 ... look for the posting soon.

By the way - this IS NOT A DANCE. I get a ton of messages asking me about the dance. There were dances in Kitchener/Waterloo but these are simple patio hopping/bar hopping get togethers and that's it.

If anyone needs a lift - post a reply here asking for a lift. I post the event here and I call the bar to make sure we have space but I cannot do anything about helping people come to the event or get home safely. You are completely responsible for your transportation and making sure you have a designated driver.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for coming out to our event last night. It was a blast. As your intrepid host I absolutely loved being the center of attention (LOL!) and will be sure to do it again in two weeks.

If anyone has any thoughts on a good place to host this event -- please feel free.

Thank you to everyone who came out - I could list names but I'd forget some (except Rob aka DH -- you know who you are)!

I will upload pictures when I figure out how to hook the camera up ... ROFL!

Maybe Friday the 1st or the 2nd -- That shouldn't be too close to Octoberfest... If anyone has any ideas for a venue for an event I have been told that I can conscript the lovely mj preston (above) into co-hosting.

If anyone else is interested in co-hosting an event on Wednesday the 22nd please let me know as I'd love the help (not that it's a lot of work to get ready ... but I can't mingle as easily if I'm greeting and otherwise being CHARMING!)

These types of events are held in the GTA, Hamilton, Windsor and many other places - but not in KW (at least for some years). Regrettably, I'm out. My new night shift entails that I work every Saturday night and seeing that the company XMas party is Saturday I couldn't switch shifts.

I implore everyone who is on the fence about going to this party to show up anyway. These get togethers are amazing and habz always does up a great party.

See you all another day.

-Dave

I almost wasn't going to post but now I have to.

Dave - what will i do? I mean ibtrbl is a good dancer and all, and HG will be there too, but we haven't slow danced in ages man! I mean I was counting the hours to Careless Whisper bro. And the Orange Shirt hasn't seen any love in ages and ages.

Tears are falling ...

~A Moral Dilemma...~
Posted: 10/18/2006 5:57:39 PM
My list was as follows: I assume the assassin had nothing to do with the husband - otherwise she'd not have tried to get back to the house before he did (ie: if she knew he'd sent an assassin - she would have known not to try and go home - so she didn't think the assassin was sent by the husband).

Assassin - he was the ultimate reason for her death. If he had not been there, she'd be alive.

Wife - she was not capable of resisting the behaviour that she knew was morally wrong in the first place, and put herself in the position she was in.

Lover - he knew her danger, but did nothing about it

Boatman - he could have helped an obviously panicked woman

Husband - again - assuming he did not hire the assassin, he's essentially innocent.

(All this being said - I could easily argue about 3 or 4 different orders - but this was the first one I came up with).

Why such a trend?? Seeking young things!!
Posted: 10/10/2006 10:05:32 PM
the other side of it that occurs to me when dating ( and it has been mentioned higher up the thread ) , is about the children , some of the women I have dated on or around my age ( +/- 2 years ) have kids already , they have put their time in as it were and now want no more because they are finally at a point where the kids can be independant enough for mum to get out and have a life again .

@scouse - good point.

I was going to post something on the ol' cougar subject ... but this seems like a much better point. Younger women are still able to have children. Men at most any age can still produce a child. Is there perhaps an instinct amung some older men to have one more kid (or a first kid if they missed out). Is that fair to the much younger wife who may end up taking care of teenagers and an aging husband at some future date?

Interesting ...

When I was looking I limited myself to anyone within +/- 8 years of my age ... I happened to find an older woman thou and that suits me fine.

Tabbs - you know I've got a lot going on under my she... on my plate right now. I post when I have some extra minutes between putting kids to bed and escaping from the terrible traps HG sets for me *tries and fails to look put out* oh woe is me

Costume assistance is being provided by a co-worker too who happens to know a thing or two about the subject I'm coming as. Should be interesting

Come on everyone ... sign up ... let's get the numbers up there for this party. Edelweiss (sp?) in Kitchener is going to break 300. Let's make sure Tabb's party does too!

Where's Fibbert? You better be making an awful special costume for not saying much!
You better not tell Tabbs our little secret or I'll turn you into a pumpkin at midnight!

Blue .. shhhhhhhhhhhhhh .. no secrets from anyone here by the way I think you'll never be recongnized... er... not that I have any idea what you're going to dress up as...

^^^^ I have finally freed my mouth from HG terrible spell (at least until she shows up later) and I can talk ... er ... write (daDevil needs this icon!)

i think he is in his love nest with HG, but thats ok, at least someones getting all the love

More like a "Love Dungeon" me thinks. I may have sold my soul to a Goddess but at least I'm having fun :-)

I have settled on my costume and you folks should recognize me because most of you think I look like this anyway

Now let's get the HG some wings and a halo and I think we'll make a perfect couple :-) (not that we aren't already ... right hun *sweat drips off nose* please don't tie me up again!!! *glint in eye suggests not as scared as he looks*)

First of all ... Dante, Nascar and Interdimensional ... STOP WATCHING THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL (or National Geographic TV). Crazy buggers

Secondly ... on to more serious topics.

As far as cliques. I tend to sort of, kind of, agree. There are some cliques. For people who are uncomfortable introducing themselves to others, the fact that groups of people know one another and hang out makes for a bit of discomfort from time to time. I've felt it. I can see a group of people who hang out at a table together at a party, and I'm with a different group, and those two groups don't mingle. Maybe we need to hold a "Clique Mingler" function where the hosts actually break up the regular groups and force peeps to orbit in different circles for a night :-)

Now where I disagree is that nobody here that I've met is actually standoffish. They all welcome newcomers (maybe a bit slowly sometimes). They don't ever give anyone a hard time. Everyone wants to have fun, make friends etc...

Lastly on dating. For most of us our purpose here was and or is to date other people. That in mind - some of us need to get off our butts and actually ask people out, or actually accept offers to go out. Once you start meeting people, you never know what fish you may be introduced to at what event and where that might lead. I had no idea. I'm damn happy that I went out on meets with as many girls as I did - even ones I was pretty sure there would be no connection with ... because that led to where I am now

The PoF Dating Circle

I haven't read all the posts yet ... but ...

It took asking a lot of women out on dates before I found the right one. A lot of it's luck and timing but the most important skill is persistence. If you hang back and let the world move by you - nothing will happen. You need to be pro-active. ASK someone out. And if you don't date or meet anyone - you won't every find the RIGHT ONE. He/she is out there somewhere, but they're not wearing a sign with your name on it. Just ask them to dance, ask them out for coffee, introduce yourself and tell them they're handsome/pretty. You WILL be rejected - but eventually you won't be and then you see if there's a WOW or not.

It also helps you with perspective if you've been on a number of dates. You better understand what you like and dislike. When you find someone you like ... you're more sure because you can see how other people you were with weren't the right "fit."

Good luck anyway - we all need it (some of us more than others ;-)

Wasn't there something a few years ago that men who had a lot of sex lived longer? Better lung capacity and stronger heart etc...

I plan on living forever

So HG was saying she's still not sure what to wear. Does anyone have any ideas for a costume HG can wear? Personally I like a bavarian girl in a skirt - pigtails - heels ....

And what would a Fibbert look good as on Halloween? I have thoughts - but your ideas might be cool. Anyone want to take a shot at what Fibs and HG should come as?

Is It Just Me?

Could it be that as the weather gets cooler - and people stop going out in the sun etc... we all start spending more time at the computer? So we send more IM's and msgs? And we therefore meet more peeps? Except that a lot of the recent meets started before the weather got cool? And at parties and through friends? Maybe it's some kind of instinct to lay down roots before the winter? Maybe this has happened before (all the hook ups at once) but people who hook up drift off of POF and the newbies don't know that it happened before?

Could be all the parties at the end of the summer ... everyone is out and getting drunk as skunks and alcohol loosens the tongue so we ask that special girl/boy to dance?

The Five Love Languages
Posted: 9/28/2006 7:20:37 PM
My pastor talked about this in his sermon a couple weeks ago. This shows that giving gifts *is* a sign of love, and I always thought so.

Just remember CTF that the gift giving language may not be received as communication of love by your significant other. Identify your mate's love language and use it as often as you can. They will naturally return yours back to you and that will just make your relationship stronger and better.

It is totally amazing how something so simple can be right under our nose and we cannot see it at all. Now that I have recognized it and understand it - I think it will definitely make all my relationships stronger and better - with friends and lover.
