Evolution.
Posted:
8/18/2009 3:40:08 PM
I don't think that it's being repressed - I think that scientists are still fine-tuning a lot of it. New theories are always coming out and existing ones are being tweaked a bit. Remember how for YEEEAAARS it was said that Cro-Magnons did NOT descend from Neanderthals, nor did they interbreed with them; Neanderthals went extinct because they were an inferior species. Now, it comes out (with the aid of more sophisticated equipment) that not only did Neanderthals have the speech gene FIRST , but that scientists have found that there are traces of Neanderthal genes in modern Western Europeans! Even with these new discoveries, many scientists still argue that the two species never interbred. So, my point is: evolution probably isn't being widely taught because so many of the minor points are still being argued by those in the anthropology community.
...and in case you haven't noticed, many scientists behave like spoiled, egotistical whiney-butt children! It's allll about them. LOL

Has society bred stupidity?
Posted:

I think that you're blending technologically dependent with 'dumbing down'. Do I think that we as a society are becoming too dependent on tech? Yes. As you so clearly stated, we rely on GPS for directions, calculators for basic math problems, spellcheck on the computer, e-mail for actual letters, etc, etc. BUT - I think with this dependency, we've allowed ourselves as a society to dumb down. Example? I've got 2 words for you: Paris Hilton. So many people waste their time and gray matter on celebrities and reality television! Why?! It only encourages shallow, oxygen-thieving wastes of DNA like Hilton to thrive in the asinine 'limelight'. How many people actually read books these days instead of People magazine? This type of immature, brain-dead attitude can not be good for our species. In fact, it concerns me more than becoming dependent on technology.
Oh, and I will not give up my cell phone. I like having it in the car in case I need roadside assistance!

Fine Art Marketing... what works, what doesn't?
Posted:

All of those things are necessary and should be used together. These days, you've got to have a multi-prong approach to marketing. But you left off another standard. Rep groups are a good way to get your product out there if you're doing multiple copies. I don't know exactly what your medium is. If you're painting, consider having lithos done; suclptures could be open or limited edition copies. Rep groups will display at trade shows and hit the road to sell to businesses, galleries and museums.

Anyone make a living from their art, or wish they could?
Posted:
3/25/2009 5:07:41 PM
Yes, I do make a living from art. I have a business partner who does most of the sculpting. I also do some sculpting, but focus primarily on painting ( statues). The best strategy to make it successful is simple: treat it as a business and act professionally. Any successful artist will tell you that you spend only about 10% of your time creating. The remaining 90% of your time is spent on the business end. Learn basic business principle. Timetables are a necessity; if you keep to them and organize yourself, you can handle 2 projects at once. Too many flakes out there 'can't be bothered with business' - they want to create. I have no patience for those types. If you have talent, take the time and responsibility to learn how to market, sell, distribute, and grow your damned business.
The best motivation for me to keep things moving along is obvious: I look at all my bills. I refuse to be a 'starving artist'.

I doubt that they can top Tim Curry for the role of Frank. He was perfect for it . About the only actor that I think could handle a role in it would be Tim Roth as Riff. Otherwise, why mess with perfection?

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC?
Posted:
1/16/2009 12:48:54 PM
I think what many people - including myself- find unappealing about country music is that today, it just seems so 'cookie cutter', for lack of a better term. Shania Twain is the perfect example: her producer was Mutt Lange (Def Leppard, AC/DC) . Her stuff is 'cut and pasted' together and sounds more like pop music. What's country about that? It also seems that country has fallen into the same pretentious groove that pop and rock are in: talent is not necessary - it's all about how beautiful you are! And why try to gain a following? Just sign up for the next Nashville Star on t.v.! Yuck! That's why country music is littered with 'artists' like Whitney Duncan.
Give me Johnny Cash any day.

This is a common fantasy among many, many women. Trust me - you're not the only woman out there that's thought about it. In fact, I'd go as far to say that if any woman says that she's never thought about -- then she's probably telling a little white lie!
But given today's social norms and the risks of STD's, it's probably best kept as a fantasy or done with the 'aid' of a toy.

Finding the Ultimate Vibrator

It never ceases to amaze me the various topics that I find in the forums.
It all depends on your preferences. The vibrating bullets/eggs give the most 'bang for your buck', so to speak. But that's strictly for clitoral stimulation. If you're looking for more than that, go for the Rabbit! It provides the best of both worlds. ;-)

If I could have ONE painting, I would love to own Claude Monet's 'Terrace At St. Adresse". I was fortunate enough to see an exhibit of some of his works years ago. The man was an absolute genius. His brushstrokes and use of colour are just brilliant.

men, how do you feel when the woman you love tells you she had many [30-...] f- buddies?
Posted:
9/4/2008 5:18:39 PM
My, my! The double standard IS alive and well, even in the 21st century! What about men? Is it acceptable for them to be promiscuous? Have women judged you by the number of other women you've been with? It goes both ways, honey. Having indiscriminate sex isn't acceptable for EITHER gender.
But, if a woman is being honest with you by divulging this sensitive information, then it means that she TRUSTS YOU and believes that you won't judge her by that ridiculous notion that women should remain virgins while men sow their wild oats. Take that into consideration: she is with you - she trusts you enough to open up to you completely. But obviously, if you're going to obsess over it, then it more than likely means that you're simply insecure and can only focus on your needs. Have a nice day!

Prostitutes!
Posted:
8/6/2008 5:19:59 PM
Well, well! This lovely response is obviously from a bitter person who has been hurt.
All women are NOT whores. Many of us have our pride, standards, values,
morals -- AND BRAINS. * FYI: SMART, INDEPENDENT WOMEN DON'T NEED TO USE MEN TO GET WHAT THEY WANT.* We do just fine on our own. For you to even say such a thing is not only offensive, but vulgar and obviously ignorant -- and inexcusable. Get counseling and then get a clue.
Now, if you're going to accuse women who've had more than 2 sexual partners in their lifetimes of being sluts, then you should drop the whole 'Double Standard' thing. It's NOT acceptable for promiscuous men to be considered 'studs' and women who've had more than 1 or 2 partners 'whores'. Men quite often can be bigger whores than women: 'nail' as many women as possible, do whatever it takes to advance at work, even if it means compromising your ethics and values, and 'trade up' when you grow tired of your current partner. What some men consider to be acceptable behaviour for their gender and detestable for the other is illogical and assinine. It's just utter rubbish!
Sorry, Sparky - but there's enough poor behaviour from BOTH genders. It's completely ridiculous to insist that it's ingrained in women's psyches only.
And, yes, I feel better now that I've expressed my views.

Uhh, excuse me, Skippy, but don't count the U.S. people out just yet! Believe me, a majority of us are good and pissed off. We do see that our government - NOT JUST BUSH - but our ENTIRE government is the most ineffective that we've had in 40 years. We DO see the attempts at turning the North American continent into a mirror-image of the EU. I guarantee that the American public will not stand for it. You think that we're riled about illegal immigration? Wait till they try to soft peddle that one. It sounds to me as if you've bought in to all the uber-liberal, anti-American vitriol that's been spewed out and is so in fashion with the rest of the world. We're not gullible, we're not naive and I do believe that through our voting system, changes will be made for the better.

Why do married men masturbate?
Posted:
8/9/2007 2:31:30 PM
Honey, don't take it personally! That's just how men are wired. Sometimes they masturbate simply because they're not up for having sex - and all that goes with it - with the wife/ girlfriend. They may be a little tired or simply just in the mood for a 'fast one'. Taking care of it themselves is just easier for the moment. I'm sure he told you that it wasn't any big deal and that he wasn't doing it to hurt you. And he meanis it! There's no reason to get bent out of shape over it. All men- married or single - masturbate. You can't change that! lol
Now, if you want more physical attention from him, technically, that's a different matter. You need to simply tell him. That comes down to communication, plain and simple.

Well, girl - this is a tough one. But the bottom line is: life isn't fair - it never is. There's only one way that you're not going to have this problem and you know what it is. You'll have to change professions. Should people be judged by the job they do? Not really. But, in a sense, many people choose their professions based on their personalities. Kids do it all the time; they want to grow up to be firemen, astronauts, and ballerinas. If you don't want to be judged, you gotta' look for another line of work.

Do men still want A lady on their arm and a whore in the bedroom?
Posted:
7/23/2007 2:09:22 PM
To put it simply: YES. Men want a woman who is intelligent, informed and has a great sense of humour. Many of them want to be spoiled. They want a woman to see them for themselves, not as just 'like all men'. It's been my experience that they want a woman to make them feel like the only man in the world, but without smothering them. BUT - don't immediately jump into a physical relationship! If some guy wants 'naughty talk' and 'gropey-feely' right up front, then that's exactly all he's looking for. A guy who's serious is going to want to be seduced - mentally, emotionally and physically - AND in private. Take time to get to know each other. For the record, you're not a prude - you're smart and cautious. Nothing wrong with that! Thumbs up, girl!

Death Ok for Child Rapist?

Death is too good for slime like that. He has ruined a child's life! How many years of therapy is that poor child going to need? Will it even truly help? How can anyone in their right mind side with someone who destroys a child?!
If it were my kid and that lowlife didn't receive the death penalty, I'd hunt him down with an aluminum baseball bat and put him down like a rabid dog.
'Nuff said.

why do women say there looking fro good guys but are not
Posted:
5/9/2007 3:57:55 PM
Well, it involves a theory in sociology and psychology called the Red Queen theory... it's pretty detailed, so I suggest that you google it.
Basically, women are attracted to the strong, dangerous type. We can't help it - it's literally programmed in our genes. But, the 'nice guy' is also programmed into our genes. We do want to settle down with the nice guy, really! Unfortunately, that allure of the naughty boy is constant. It's similar to how men look at women. You could be walking down the street with the love of your life, but if a very, very attractive woman walks by, you can not help but check her out. It doesn't necessarily mean that you want to dump the woman you're with and run off with the other one; you're simply looking. Again, it's programmed in your genes.
Bottom line: avoid the women that are in or have just gotten out of toxic relationships. Try to find the mature women who are done sowing their wild oats.

My dear, you think that since you haven't met your soulmate yet, you never will. You don't know that. If you give up, then you DEFINITELY won't!
It all comes down to what you want. If you truly want to be married/ LTR, then perhaps you should get past your 'comfort zone'. It's human nature to stick to a routine or limit yourself to things that you feel comfortable with. Perhaps you should start getting more involved in activities that you normally wouldn't. Everyone has hobbies that they've always wanted to try. Have you considered joining some groups? Join clubs or groups that will expand your social circles.
You're bound to meet some great people out there.

Sweetie, first off, there's nothing wrong with you! -- and there is no such thing as 'unable to reach an orgasm'. You simply just need to be more 'in touch' with your body, that's all. And getting in touch with your body should be all about fun, as well as a learning experience (I'm sure when you to bring the boyfriend in on it, he'll be MORE than happy to help! ;-) ). Secondly, RELAX!! This isn't a race or a test that you'll be graded on! LOL It won't happen if you're uptight.
There are literally hundred, if not thousands of books and websites out there dedicated to female pleasure. I strongly recommend that you browse the 'adult toys' sites. There are some great things out there! It sounds as if you're looking for that killer orgasm that you can only get from the G-spot. My dear, they have a toy made JUST for that!
One site that I recommend is http://www.goodvibes.com. There's a great selection and the customer service is tops.
This isn't a topic that I can simply put into a nutshell. There's so much to it. Start with the website. If you are looking for recommendations for books, other sites, tips, tricks, just e-mail me.
NOW, RELAX!

How to get over being rejected
Posted:
5/9/2007 2:58:36 PM
Darlin', you need to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Keep in mind that the best and most effective way of doing this is usually the most difficult. All you need is determination and some good friends:
1) Forget about the jerk - and, yes, he IS a cold, heartless JERK! No person with a microscopic shred of human decency tells a person that the new date is 'more fun'! He's a loser and I know you don't want to associate with losers. THROW OUT anything and everything that you associate with him, including his phone number. If you need a friend for some support, call one over to help.
2) This is one of those proverbial 'rainy days' - if you've got a savings account, dip into it. Book an appointment at the local spa. You can get an oxygen facial or even a make-up application. You'd be surprised what a new style of make-up and hair can do for you. Again, see if you can make it a Girls' Day out. Also, book a massage! Massages are a great way to relax and just focus on yourself.
3) RETAIL THERAPY - a new outfit does wonders for your mood. You and the girls should really look for that perfect dress that makes you look great.
4) Get back out there. Join some activities groups. Many local churches and non-religious organizations have group outings. In January, I joined a hiking group; I found out about it in the newspaper.
5) Hit the gym. The gym is a GREAT place to meet new people! Join some of the cardio classes. You'll have no trouble finding a work-out buddy and expanding your social circles...and the gym is also a wonderful place to meet men. ;-)
Most important: stop being so down about yourself. EVERY person...well, with perhaps the exceptions of Hitler and bin Laden... has good qualities about themselves.
If you're with someone and that nasty self-doubt starts to creep in, the best way to get rid of it is to compliment the person you're with ; not a phony compliment, something genuine. When you make someone feel good (i.e., help them get rid of their self-doubts - yes, we all have them!), you'll start to feel good, too. When you feel better then you'll start to see all the good things about yourself.
If you really are feeling suicidal, then, my dear, DON'T HESITATE to speak with a professional counselor!! If you truly need help, don't be embarrassed to get it.

Aside from the fact that this guy has more balls than a pooltable, he's an idiot!
Darlin', you REALLY need to think of it this way: imagine what it would be like if you waited for this mental midget. I mean, realllly imagine -- you'd be sitting at home, wondering why it's taking him so long just to pick up something from the grocery store, it would fester and drive you nuts. You'd end up poisoning yourself with misery. AND if the jerk finally DID want to get married, he would STILL jerk you around! Suspicious calls that he would be making on his cell, hang-ups when you answer the home phone ( other women?), dodging your questions. Life is short. You deserve better than this One-Trick Pony. All he knows how to do is spew the same sappy pick-up line - big deal! I'm sure there are plenty of REAL men out there who would love to spend time with you. GO OUT AND TAKE THEM, SWEETIE!

It's alright if you ask her out - just don't come across as creepy! lol Just make a comment along the lines of noticing that she works very hard making sure people get great service and can relax -- when was the last time she got to do that for herself? Tell her that you'd like to meet her for a cup of coffee or for lunch and get to know each other a bit better. Just be honest, be yourself and show that you have a great sense of humour. She'll appreciate it!
