God's existance
Posted:

Hmmm I missed the whole Theist Agnostic creative writing post, pity. But I'd like to respond to it this way. I've looked at all of the the worlds religions. They all have something to offer. Do I know there is a God because some book, or ritual, or cleric tells me so? No. I just know that there is more to existance then just randomness. Maybe, I'm a a naive romantic, but that is how I see creation. There is something greater then me, it was confirmed with the birth of my son. When my friends were, kept alive on the battle field. When I was able to rescue people in New Orleans. This life has purpose and meaning, and there are miracles. Like the time when I was homeless, and lead to a place that would become my home for 2 years. (That's too long a story for this short post) I see it all the time, in my life and others. So yes there is a God. I don't expect you to believe because I say there is, but for me that's why I believe. I just choose a religion that was comfortable for me. I also kept some of teachings I found useful form the others too.

Thorb are we talking about Lucifer the light bearer? Or Satan the Inquiziter? Both are mentioned in the old testament. I'm not exactly sure that they are the same being. Could be but then again we are talking about the Etherial plane.
Dukky what the heck are you talking about? And what does it have to do with the topic at hand? Sounds interesting? But I'm not sure it has anything to do with anything that we're discussing here.
Oh Jesus, So far we've figured out that he's a misunderstood guy. And we have absolutely no idea what his political leaning are. We just know there not of this world.

Tranq. The reason the Democrats won the majority (if things were much like they were in NC) the people were bused and told (coached) who to vote for up to the 50 ft legal limit of the polling place. Many of whom were going to vote for President Obama anyhow. The Democratic party wasn't taking any chances with the 2008 election. In the curbside voting I saw people telling people how to vote, there wasn't much I could do.

^^^^Don't like the government you have you can have a revolution every 2 years at the ballot box. You can completely change the House of Reps. and a 1/3 of the Senate. That is works out to be a quarter of the government if we so choose. Get involved 2010 is not that far away. I got involved in my government because I didn't like how things were going. I've learned a lot. I've even been an election official.

The above two posts (edit 130/131) are why factionalism is dangerous to a Republic. Instead of addressing what is ailing our nation and what solutions could solve them (and finding a middle ground) we result in blame and name calling. Now Earthpuppy and I disagree on dome things. However, I respect his opinion. Sometimes we agree on things. This is how America is supposed to work where we listen to each other discuss, and find the best recourse for our problems. In the real world of politics, you'll find that you'll have to work with the other side, because, sometimes they agree with you on a issue. One day you're allies, the next your foes. That's just how it is. At the end of the day it is about Respect, because you know that each of you truly believes in the position that each holds. The founders knew this. Hell, there were some firey personalities their. Can anyone say Jefferson, and Madison?
Much like the previous War between the States we become too worried about labels Slave holder, Slave, Abolishist, etc. Today it is Conservative, Liberal, Socialist, Homosexual, Migrant (Illegal Allien), Black, Veteran, Senior, etc. It is all these sub-groups that are tearing us appart, instead of us focusing on the unifying factor which is that we're Americans.
We can Fix the Economy. We can fix the health insurance industry. We can Conserve the Planet. We can improve Industry. We can fix all the problems that face us as Americans as long as we face them as Team America, and pull together as Americans. Because for all its faults this is the Greatest Nation on Earth and I believe that in my heart of hearts.

Is altruism is hard-wired into the brain?
Posted:

I actually had long arguments on the nature of altruism in college. One point that I've agreed with if you get any pleasure in doing something right then you're not really being alturistic but being self interested.
I think to be truly altruistic, you have to do nice, right, or philotropic things without any benefit, which can be done.
I personally think that the release of endorphines after the altruistic act is mutually exclusive. However, I have wondered, if this does effect ones overall, chi, and therefore, nero-chemical health.
Like I said many may long nights with many cups of coffee, and bad food spend over this topic. :)

To answer the first question asked of me yes it was the Fayetteville VA Medical Center Emergency Room, Fayetteville, NC supposedly one of the best in the whole system. As far as saving you money. I'm still employed, and actually work two jobs. I'm even an Entrepreneur, remember, that whole knowledge of NC Life insurance? The other I am employed as a defense contractor on Fort Bragg. So I pay my share of taxes and then some. If you want to save money look at money puts into dumpsters on a regular basis, on the premise that our troops deserve nothing but the best. I guess, you Republican types don't believe that when we're broken after fighting your wars huh? I'm an Iraq and Afganistan War Veteran. Nothing makes me more angry than ignorance. Some of you may say that you're Conservative, but I tell you your hero Ronald Regan wouldn't have anything to do with what you say. You know it was Ronald Regan that, reformed insurance in 1983, with HMO's and PPO's, that it was he that put into Federal law that you can't be refused treatment at an Emergency room. So if you want someone to blame start there. Now you ask why do I go to the VA system? I go there because I've was so injured defending the great nation that I will never be able to purchase health insurance on my own. I'm smart enough to go the the teaching hospital to get a second opinion. This, in itself cares its own risks.
Secondly the Adverse Selection comes into play as to how well the under-writing is done. The treatment will be preformed, the charges will be sent to the insurer it will be refused, then the tort will begin. The insurers have to keep staff lawyers on retainer. I know a college buddy of mine works as an attorney for a major Health care insurer.

If we read the Federalist papers, it address's in the first letters the notion of partisans how dangerous they are to Republican Government. It is this factionalism that leading us path of revolt. More later. See, Federalist 1-6.
Health Care. Especially Veteran Admin. I went to the Emergency Room (VA) shortly after my auto accident, the doctor glanced at my x-ray wrote me a RX which could've killed me if didn't read the drug interactions. (Hydrocodone/phenytoin) So Earthpuppy there's much wrong with the VA system. Not to mention all that the doctor missed after I got a second opinion. Or the fact that it will take me a month to get a follow up with my primary care physcian.
As to the rising cost of Health Insurance it is because of a princple called "Adverse Selection" This is where someone with a pre-existing condition, or that knows that they are have an immediate need for insurance purchase it. When you have group Insurance, as a percentage of population you have you have less adverse selection, but conversely you have those that will be included in the policy. Thus, this will increase the amount paid out by the insurance company, so each year the underwriters, have to assess the likelihood of the amount of services rendered vs. premiums paid-in, and face amounts on existing contracts. Most people have no idea what the cost the Health Insurance Costs, or what it actually covers. In most circumstances the policy is kept with the Human Resources Department. In my current situation, I don't need a Health plan that covers, any Female Health Issues, which would lower the overall, cost of my health costs. There is much more that goes into the calculation but I don't have pages and pages to explain it all, and it depends upon each state and its Insurance Commission Mandates. I can give you the ins and outs of NC Life Insurance Mandates. Such as for a Group Disablity Policy for an Employer in this State the Empoyer must pay 75% of the premium.

You can use the classic, I think that we're in different place in our life right now. Sweet simple to the point, and non-offensive. He'll get the point. If he was a salesman (just a guess) he'll try and presist, then you'll have to get nasty. Until then I think that'll work. It's best to cut sling now. I had a roommate, like that (Chuck), he was the top salesman in the dealership, we didn't find out he was a crack head until Owen (my other roommate) and I were on the street.
I got some other suggestions, if it continues to be a problem but I will only discuss it off forum.

Did you know that you can have text link to your instant message/email through free email applications using an SMS? I sometimes use text to send a message because it increases the odds the my commincation will not be missed. I suggest that you link set text to you email it is very simple to do. So in the man's defense if he's tech savvy he might have been making sure you know what the situation was, and making sure that you didn't feel blown off and that you two could reschedule.

Igor what about situations where there is hyper inflation much like the Wymiar Republic between WWI and WWII Germany? I would say that most Revolts are caused by economic conditions, and that this country is primed for one, justified for social reasons but economic ones as the catylist.
You have to remember in the original War Between the States there wasn't an absence of Authority it was just a Confederacy (Compact) of States and the Federal (Union) of States fighting each other. A Organization of Government(s) could very easily emerge in such a division of the Union, you might even have the Socialist States of America, The Confederacy (or something like it) and the Union. It doesn't have to be a bi-frontal Civil War. Think of the Late Roman Empire when you had 4 some times 5 civil war raging at the same time.

On the subject of hearsay... How do you know What Jesus looked like? How do you know what he said? How do you know he ever even lived?
On hearsay well it depends on a point of view. One man's hearsay might be another man's Orthodoxy. The Bible plus Josephus (secular authority) is pretty consistant. This is how we know that he actually lived and was crucified. Now the resurrection is an article of faith. I know what Jesus looks like because he's a Puerican Guy I work with. lol Seriously you can piece it together by what Arabs of the Region look like, and 1st Century Mosquics of Jesus we have a indication of how the historical Jesus appeared.
The Bible could be considered to be an amicus brief. From the witness, of the actual events that occured during the Minstry of Jesus.

The OP asked about a race war, I doubt that it will be anything to do with race but more about the fundemental direction of the nation. I pray that there won't be another War Between the States but as Caesar had said "The Dye is Cast." And those that advocate for it do not know what they are doing. You will have distruction, starvation, famine, and death. Once the roads are broken the groceries, and goods at the supermarket that you take for granted will be gone. The fuel at the pumping station will dry up so your car will be useless. So if you'll have to bicyle every where (that is if wasn't looted) with you gun. You will need hard goods for trade. This country would tune into a third world county in a month once the bombs start falling. We need to figure out how to stop be so polarized and how to work on the major problems of the country. Lets get the Economy and the War right first. Then we can get the other social stuff later.

Cotter I need to correct a lot of lies in the post that article you posted.
One a single M-4 Shot to the head will not leave much of the head left much less three. It is a very difficult shot to make. The army doesn't teach head shots they teach center mass shots. Even with M-9 pistols. The only organization that I heard that works at the head shot is Delta. And that is because of the close quarters nature of there work i.e. fusalage of a aircraft.
Two Pat Tillman will killed in Afganistan.
Three Pat Tillman wasn't Special Forces, he was a Ranger. The Special Forces Green Berts get annoyed about that kind of thing. Rangers are Elite but not Special Forces. Tan Berts.
It goes this way
Airborne Maroon
Ranger Tan
Special Forces Green Berts.
Delta Force
I've been on Three combat tours and haven't seen any fragging.
It wasn't a personal attack, it was an observation, and a question. You're entitled to your opinion. I would recommend that you try and go work for an NGO (Non Government Organization) and go to an Combat Zone and you might get a new opinion of how the Army works. While supporting your favorite charity.
Earthpuppy: Stop Loss is a different issue. However when we all sign up we Volunteer we Sign-up for 8 years. Everyone knows this. The smart ones use the Re-up money to finish up that Federal time and get paid for it, tax free.
The UCMJ is not used effectively. If you looked at the displine of the Army Earthpuppy you'd say that soliders are cottled.

As a member of the US Military he won't be tried in regular court. He will face a court Marshal under the UCMJ. The jury will be his peers i.e. members of the military, therefore I don't think the diminished capacity defense will go over very well. The excuse that the news is making up doesn't exist. So, it isn't going to fly with a military jury. But what I am worried about finding a jury pool that hasn't been tainted by all the news coverage of the story.

I was thinking today, had Maj. Hassan died on the 5 Nov. none of the embarssing events would have come to light. So, its kinda a good thing that he lived. I do wonder if he will be able to receive a fair trial. It's going to be a mess. More then likely he will be tried here on Ft. Bragg. Much like the folks from the Abu Grab scandal were.
Promotion is done at the level of the Pentagon, and confirmed at the level of the Senate.
Cotter, I've addressed Pat Tillman, and you're simply wrong, quit with the consprisy theory. I don't know why you hate America. From you posts that is the impression I get from you. However, to answer your question of your visa restriction list, how about State Sponsors of Terror, listed by US. Dept of State. Then you can restrict travel from countries likely to be sympahtic to Islamist Organiztions, such as Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, etc.
Earthpuppy, you even in you era you had wingnuts serving and abusing their training. It isn't as bad as bad as you make it out to be. The majority of those serving are doing so for the right reasons. Wouldn't you agree certain aspects of the Army is greatly misunderstood, such as the US Special Forces, and the School of the Americas? I know that the School of the Americas is contversial.
I've said it before I've seen no problem with those exercising their religion. This is not limited to Muslims, Wiccans, etc. As a matter of fact the worship area for Muslims is located at the Soldier Support Center on my Garrison.
Dino, I re-read your post and your right, I misread what you had wrote. My appologies.

Dino you need to google the MCM Manual of Court Marshals rev. 2000. Hassan cannot be held as a POW either under the Genva Conventions or the Rules of Land Warfare. He is a traitor. He will be subject to the the punishment under the punishments under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Now, as far as no one being sentenced to death since 1961 that isn't true. He on Ft. Bragg we've had several murders, and masscares over the years, the original sentences were death. However, on appeal they were overturned. As a matter of fact two have recently have just been retried due to new evidence. You can do a news search of the Fayetteville Observer. One particular interest will be the Towel Statium slayings. Where, a solider shot his command while they were conducting physical training. Now the Readiness Center isn't just for people going to Iraq and Afganistan, the news got that bit wrong, returning soldiers process there too. It is here that they compare your pre-deployment questionaires, to check for TBI, and PSTD.
He hasn't lost his mind, he is still rational to plan the execution of his fellow soldiers. Request an attorney. No, not at all he is a Traitor. I've seen the Towel Nut, he has not connection to reality from all indications Hassan is quiet lucid and well connected to what is going on around him, and what the consequences of his behavior are going to be. Personally I want a life sentence so his Buddies, in Jail can serve true justice to him. Keep him in population, it will get the job done faster, the segregation of death row and endless appeals.

I will agree with you that the United States is a mixed system and we have been so since the Progressive Movements of the late 19th Century and early 20th Century. Such things like the FDA, Veteran Administration, etc are a direct result of Socialist tendencies. Then you had the New Deal Era, and the Great Society. The US has always wondered about the amount how much is too much Federal Authority? The rest of the World just now gets to sit at our kitchen table.

Most of the Jewish people were literate. That's why we have so many writing from the period the dead sea scrolls. The Approphical Gospels and alike. And in an agriculture based economy like Rome was, a Fish Monger was more likely to be wealthy. We both know that the Roman tax collectors skimmed off the top. But they still had to know how to read to collect the right amount for there masters. Then write a report of that accounting to local Governor, after all, they didn't wish to be decapitated. I suggest you go to any Museum in Tel a Viv or Jerusalem and you can see how literate the ancient Jewish peoples were. There were many letters written before the actual "Gospels" were written. So, it depends on what your looking for as proof of writing.
Krebb sounds interesting and makes sense. I thought that it had something to do with Economic Theory.

Without taking this too far off track. An attack on Ft. Bragg was foiled on Ft. Bragg about a month ago, when a truck with and IED in the trailer was stopped at the x-ray check point on post. It shut down that section of post for most of the morning. I know because my office is right next to the area, and we had to be evacuated from the area.
Back to topic, a Muslim collegue of mine and I were talking today about Hassan, and we'd agreed that he is a traitor. He said something interesting, he said that he is now a man without a home. He and I disagree about the motovations, but we agree, that it was wrong, and that he should be punished.

Friendly Fire or not, he was still actively engaged the Taliban. It wasn't like his buddies just shot him. These things happen.
I am not advocating that we round up the Muslims. I am not going to excuse Hassan's Traitorious behavior either.
I know the area of DC that Walter Reed is in, there is a large Middle Eastern population there. He thinks us fighting in Muslim countries is anti-Muslim, his opinion of what is anti-Muslim doesn't hold water.
There is more that I wish to discuss, however, I have to go to work on Ft. Bragg.

We can agree on the whole Jesus was a nice guy, that said be nice to everyone else.
I will agree Jesus said share. I guess it boils down to who's supposed to do the sharing, a central authority (government) or the individual. My guess it was about Individual Responsiality.
Who Paul later writes That God helps those that help themselves, because some people became Christians just for the free ride (food) Early Christian History becomes interesting, and brings the Bible into greater focus.

Pat Tillman received the Silver Star postumously for his actions in
Afganistan
. He was also given a purple heart as well. He was killed while engaged with Taliban fighters in the North West Frontier Province in 2004. If my memory is correct he was serving with 3/75 Ranger BN.
I don't know why you hate the military. But you're just wrong about it. Pat Tillman wasn't assassinated.

First, Pat Tillman is a hero, and his Silver Star is well deserved.
I can't speak about Viet-Nam I wasn't there. I can speak about Afganistan and Iraq. This is the US and you can say what you like but I don't like it. Ask yourself where your loyalities lie.
During my service in the Army, religion wasn't brought up. We really didn't care, we had a job to do. I'm sorry your daughter was unhappy, but I don't think religion had much to do with it.
As an officer he knew that could've gone AWOL for 29 days and he would've been in just a little trouble. He could've even desserted, and there wouldn't have been great consequence. Or, even better he could've just missed movement. Or if he wanted out bad enough as a Psychologist he would know that he could have received an Honorable Discharge by Chaptering out under Chapter 5-17. If he was unbalanced and they wanted him out his buddies, could've helped him on the road that way. Another reason I don't buy the unbalanced arguement. He's just a traitor, he chose sides and it wasn't ours.

I think he will be fit for trial because he can distinguish between right and wrong. I do not think that he is mentally unbalanced. If we can't agree that he is a terrorist, which I believe he is, that he at least a traitor.
I don't give a shyt what motovated him to attempt, and commit, murder. However, his reasoning was ideological in nature period. The Major wasn't bullied period. YOU CAN"T BULLY A MAJOR. He can make your life a living hell if your O-3 Captain. or less.
He outranked the following
Captain
1st LT
2nd LT
Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) 5
CWO 4
CWO3
CWO2
Warrant Officer
Sargent Major of the Army E-10 one in the Army
Sargent Major/ Command Sargent Major
Master/1St Sargent
Sargent First Class
Staff Sargent
Sargent
Specialist/Corporal
Private First Class
Private Second Class
Private
That's a lot a rank between him and the bottom. Bullying really?
Who out ranked Him
General o-10
LT General
Maj General
Brig. Gen
Col
Lt. Col.
So you think a LTC, Col. or a General is Bullying this man? Can you please give me a break. If you look there isn't many above him, and lots below him.

They were fishermen and carpenters. So your really think they even knew how to write.
Yes because they were Jewish. You can't have a quorum without 12 men to read the Torah, or teach religion. So when a Jewish man goes to his Bar mitzvha, has learned how to reach Hebrew. I guess they weren't so illiterate afterall. James, and John were fishermen, but they also had men working for them. They were more then likely wealthy and could write business accounts. Then you had Matthew who was a Roman tax collector, so he more then likely knew how to write both in Latin and Hebrew. But lets not let the facts get in the way of making a point.
Other then have some of the professions wrong. You also have the period of lapse wrong too. Jesus is believed to have died in 33 AD. The first Cannonical book of the Bible is Matthew written in 70 AD there for less then a 40 year lapse between his death, and its authorship. It is within a normal Human lifespan. The apostles had a cross section of professions. They all weren't artisians, or fishermen.
You can't be a Communist and a Catholic. You don't have an understanding of either if you claim to be both. Again Marxist thought tries to mask it self as Christian Charity, such as Liberation Theology. Which uses a hybrid of Christian teaching with Marxist ideology stating the only way to achieve the Christian ideal is by Communism. Which in itself is Atheistic, and counter to human freedom which is against Christianity.
The Anti-Baptists of the Amish, have a strong sense of community but are not living in a Commune. They have individual family property. They will assist their neighbors in somethings but that is different then being Socialistic. That is just good Christian Charity. They also don't believe in buttons because they are too fancy. You should spend some time the plain people. There is also many books on Amish living. I wish I could remember that title of the last one I read.
Do I generate my own electric. I suppliment it with my home made wind generators and I am looking to sell more. Do I grow my own food. Yes, and I use organic composting methods too. What I don't grow myself I buy from the farmer that grows food in my backyard. Do I clean my own water? I don't need to, I pay others to do so, but I can if I need too. Potable water isn't that hard to make. Do I bury my own trash? The zoning laws prevent that, has something to do with water tables and having potable water. I have done it when I was outside of the US. Do I build my own roads. Nope but that is a function of government. That is something that taxes should do. I'm sure I can if I needed too. It is a matter of having the correct equipment and manpower.

If you've read the process that isn't the type of engine that they are using. They are using turbine engines, to make work into energy. They are also using a condensing system to pressurize the combustion chamber. Again using this system it is a little more complex on a thermodynamic level. I didn't say it wasn't something that could be accomplished. Then you look that the function and peak performance of the engine, you'll see that it will take more energy to run the system then it will produce.

First Happy Veterans Day. It's a nice Birthday Gift to have a paid day off.
Well if we want to talk about Jonestown that was more about political ideology then it was about Christianity. Jim Jones, was one the was using Liberation Theology for his own evil ends. I think it would be a very interesting direction to take this discussion of Jesus and socialism.
As I mentioned earlier, the Spanish Inquisition, was about political (temporal kingdom) then it was about religion. They were busy trying to unify there kingdom under a common belief system. One has to look at the rest of Europe during this period. War's in the Holy Roman Empire, etc.
From my reading on the Jonestown massacre, it was Flavor Aid that he used. Not only was Jim Jones evil, he was cheap.
The Qu'ran is and the Bible aren't the same unless your reading The Old Testament. I've read the Qu'ran form cover to cover and some of the Sura's are quiet extreme. Again look at the political history of the region while it was being written and recited.

Edisto, I would guess that you were never in the military, so you don't know certain process's a soldiers need to go through. Actually if Maj Hassan followed the correct process, his direct commanding officer had to approve his purchase of a hand-gun before he could even apply for a gun perment. I will agree with you that the FBI should've stopped the purchase also. Otherwise they can add Art 91 (I think, its been a while since I had to look in the Manual of Court-Marshalls' (MCM)) failure to follow a lawful order.
Inmene2 I would recommend that you read the book Terror in the Mind of God by Mark Juergensmeyer. It address's McVey, the Toyko subway attack in the late 1990's etc. Not all terrorists are Muslims, they just seem to have a disportionate amount of them.
Again Maj. Hassan, was a Field Grade officer, he wasn't being bullied. He outranked a lot of people. Had he progressed normally he would have been a Lt. Col (LTC) with 2-3 years of promotion to Maj. He was well on his way to become a Col. or even General. It wasn't a member of the ranks, with large cross section of America, he was educated people. His peers were Professionals, not only as Officers, but as Doctors, and health providers. Thus, less likely to engauge in such behavior. We had a (suspected) homosexual Battalion Commander, that was called Rainbow 6 when he wasn't looking. But no one that cared about their career would dare do it to his face. He brought his friend and roommate, to the Christmas party one year. So I really doubt that Maj Hassan was teased or perscuted for his beliefs. Most soldiers don't care what religion you follow. They want to know that you have there back when bullets fly.

I want to know who in his command approved his purchase of a weapon?
Off topic up to Edisto's post : The Army is busy with other things to be worried about how sleeping with who. Don't ask Don't tell is misunderstood. It means that you can't openly promote a homosexual lifestyle.

I don't buy the whole he cracked argument. It is an excuse. What he did wasn't justified no matter how you try to explain it away.
He had no reason. Drug reactions have to do a lot with personal body chemistry. He was a Field Grade Officer. He out ranked a lot of people. He had a lot of people under his care as an officer, and doctor.
He's just a Traitor plain and simple. Tell the families that buried there loved ones today that he just snapped from PSTD from listening. How many of the people that he shot had PSTD, real PSTD? How many kids are going to be without parents? I could careless about Hassan, I feel for the military families. They are the other victims in this. How much PSTD did he cause by his actions? Will these soldiers be able to look at their officers, NCO's and comrades in the same way?
I don't give a Shyt about being accurate or fair to that SOB. This isn't an intellectual exercise for me. It is very personal.

The US Army Chaplain Corps is taught to council all faiths. They even get the basics in ritual practice. Types of Chaplains, Rabbis, Priests/Minsters, Imans, Satainist, Wiccan, Buddhist, Hindu, Daoist, Shinto....the list continues. The Army does reconize Wiccans and Satainist as valid religions. Drinks some more beer.
Hassan choose Ft. Hood because he knew that he wouldn't be challenged that he would have a defenseless, target, and because he's a damn TRAITOR!
All personal weapons, and issued weapons are secured in an Arms vault on post. They are considered sensitive items. You need permission from your command to purchase a personal firearm.

Those in the higher echelon of military are just burring there heads in the sand. Now Earthpuppy, according to the VA I was dignosed PSTD in 2007. And I don't go around shooting my battle buddies. The PSTD excuse doesn't wash with me. He is a terrorist, and a criminal period. The day after Ft. Bragg, had a laughable show of force at the access control points with an MP with the civilian security force. Now just a few days later, they're gone. Wow that's great. Oh as far as my PSTD treatment the VA told me to go to a Vet Center, great care huh?
Now Hassan, was a Major in the Army. He was a field grade officer with a direct Commission to Captain. He has been in the Army for a minimum of 6 years to become promoted. This alone would fulfill his reserve component requirement of service. My question is why was he still in the Army after his obligated term of service completed. I don't buy the Conicious Objector arguement. I do wonder if he was stopped lossed.
On General Casey the great Gen of the 82nd ABN that was home while we were eating sand. Our current chief of staff is nothing more then a politician and a coward.
I cry for my comrades in arms, and their families. Fvck Hassan, I hope he burns. I'm just sad the police officer, was a better shot and sent him to his final judgement.

But atheist are quick to say that the believe in reason, or science, as the only foundation for truth or understanding. I've met many that see religion as simply a crutch witch week minded or simple people cling to. Or that religion is simply a myth that was constructed out our Neolythic mind (see earlier posts) So, it is a philosophical point of view, with constructs of both belief and disbelief. And the foundations of why one should believe this point of view.

Please see post 79 and 81. In 79 I stated much like you did that atheists didn't have any rituals, but upon further reflection I did not some common practices of atheists in line 81. As, far as believe you have the shared belief on God (if not religion in general). This is not to say that atheists are bad people, or that they will have some torment. I simply don't know. I haven't met every atheist in the world, and I don't know what truly happens to us when we die. I have my beliefs, and and understanding of other belief systems.
I'm not sure that God needs religion either. Does God need ritual? Many Deists would argue no, that you can believe in God, and follow his teaching without the formalized structure of a "church". So God doesn't need religion either, by that standard.

Just to quibble a little about your post. And this is mostly doctrine, take that into account. That Jesus did found the catholic Christian church, when he gave St. Peter the keys to heaven and said whatever you hold loose I loosen in heaven what ever you hold bound I hold bound in heaven. This is also the foundation of Papal infalablity. Certain other requirements need to be met also. However, this isn't a Catholic Seminary I'm not going to go into detail about those.
I really did like the idea of Jesus as a Humanitarian though. I think that was a good description of his teachings. As far as it being a psuedonym I don't think so, because you have Josephious the Jewish historian referencing Jesus of Nazareth. I don't discount it as a possablity.

Caz due to your last posts I had to read your profile. I must say that you have a mastery of English. Anyone, even from Baltimore would know better then say hey Hun. (Local greeting). I've would've sent this to you in private but since it isn't midnight here yet, I am a bit too young to message you. I'll be 32 tomorrow Veterans Day or in your country Rememberance day. Best of luck to you.

Scorp gotta split some hairs with you. An atheist, by definition, is someone who does not believe in God, (or religion) whereas, a Agnostic is someone that isn't completely sure about the existance or non-existance of God. I have a better time, and often get a respectful, converstation with Agnostics.

The only ritual that I can see for atheists is trying to convince everyone how brilliant they are and how dumb everyone else is. So, if we take this into account then atheism is a religion. I also find it funny that atheist have the largest problem with Christianity, so is it truly atheism or something else. Like trying to pi$$ everyone else off. Maybe that could be another ritual. Becoming more like religion with every sentence.

Scorp, I have to agree with Isdime that in the strictest sense of religion atheism isn't a religion. It is more of a philosophical point of view. The reason is that atheist, to my knowledge don't have rituals. This is a necessary componet for something to be considered a religion.
That said his invisible race has holes in it. Simply we've been to the dark side of the moon and no life, even microbial was found. Which can be considered invisible to the human eye. Secondly there is disagreement if the universe is actually expanding or if it just bent, curved, expanding, or contracting. There are models for all. The most popular, by Einstein is that the Universe is actually bent.
Even the most religious person, will account for the chance that God doesn't exist. They choose to believe anyhow. Where as the atheist doesn't. It is an all or nothing for them, God doesn't exist and everyone else is just dumb. I would argue that they are often closed minded people that think that they are brilliant, because of their belief. They don't allow for any logic contrary to their opinion. Can we say Pascal's wager? I know he was a mathemtician, he was also a philosopher too, much like DeCartes.

For msg 62, you don't need to believe in a God to be religious. There are world religions that don't have a traditional Godhead in them. So I guess that would reduce you figure if you take that into account.

I just think of the heat pumps because they actually stop some of the energy transfer loss. We are not always wanting just electricity. ... its just electricity is the easiest way to transfer big energy over distances and what we really want is heat or cooling.
That's why a closed system would be best. A chiller is a low pressure cooling system, industrial air conditioning unit. It uses very little freon to operate and cools the water to chill the air. They will need a vaccum of 10 Hg minimum.
However, maintenance depends on the the overall design. You would need a technician that is both deep water suba certified as well turbine certified. They will need to have NDI/NDT level II certification also. Good luck with that combo.
The OTEC project was done on a small scale first, powering a ship lights, and computers.

therefore god is meant to be neither light nor mass.
But light is both a particle and a wave.
What exactly could god be made from ?
How does god "hear" your prayers
how does she remember them
Does it matter?
According to Western thought God is all powerful and knowing. Which answers the other 2 questions.
what is she doing during an earthquake, volcanic eruption, atomic bomb, war, genocide, plague, pestilence, murder, strangulation, knife attack, drive by shooting, bridge collapse, typhoon , hurricane, flood, tsunami etc
could it be she has lost interest and given up?
Those that believe in a Christian God Jesus said bad things happen to good people paraphrased of course. I don't know the chapter and verse first hand.
Oh G-d is capitalized when talking about a monotheistic god because it is a Pronoun. English is funny like that. Like the royal WE, and HE.

It reminds me of a chiller system, more then a heat pump. HCFC's will be banded in the begining of 2010, in the US. So R-134 will not be able to used. It also looks very expensive to implement. Just looking at the Wiki math, that it will take more power to run the system then it will produce. It could be applied areas, like the gulf stream as well as Tropical areas. I would love to take a look at Lockeed's data. IMHO I would think that the closed system would be best. The condenseing unit would have to be massive. We're talking 100's of millions of dollars to build one.
Much like Gallium, it can make water combust, but you need a atomic reactor to reclaim it.
Thob it sounds interesting. I would love to see the actual data. The twin rotors and turbines are of great interest. I read your link but I'd like independent or peer review journals on the topic.

Thurms we both know that the carbon cooling rods are submerged into the water tank t "catch" the electrons. It is how far into the these rods enter the tank that controls the amount of Fission reaction.
The point was about explosion, I was making about Chyrnoble. But your point about the radioactive fall-out is correct. As a matter of fact that is how we even knew that here had been accident in the USSR was because the radiation levels over the Baltic Sea region Spiked, well outside of normal background radiation.
