Why do men...
Posted: 7/4/2006 4:49:33 PM
There have been a few magazine articles about your problem in recent months. Before women started working outside the home, one spouse put the career aside to take care of the house and kids, and the other spouse supported the family. When women started aiming for high powered careers, it was supposed to work out so that these women would pair off with househusbands. That didn't happen. Instead, women like yourself prefer men who are their intellectual equals while those men often prefer women whose careers won't interfere with home and family. That's what you're up against, and it's not your fault.

Has anyone been brave enough to meet someone with no pic at all?
Posted: 7/3/2006 2:07:12 PM
I've never met anyone from POF, but seeing a picture wouldn't matter. Pic or not, if she says she's one thing and turns out to be another, the date would end quickly and it would be the only one. I don't care whether she has a few extra pounds and claims to be skinny, or if she is an athlete calling herself a BBW. I feel the same way about a woman who lies about her job or her interests.

Do you email based on pic or profile?
Posted: 7/3/2006 10:01:15 AM
Profiles are like movie reviews or Cliff's Notes. They may provide a thorough description, but the individual's texture is lost in the translation. That's probably where the problems are coming from.

Responding Without a Photo
Posted: 7/2/2006 10:00:48 PM

People without photos have something to hide. Simple as that. My first suspicion would be he has someone already and doesn’t want her to find out from one of her friends he’s on a dating site.

There are other possibilities of course.

Some of us have professional considerations in mind when we decide we'd rather not be recognized here. I teach college students. Need I say more?

Passion for animals

Can you share her passion for the animal of her choice?

I can, especially if it is baked to perfection and sprinkled with pepper.

Oktoberfest? Need some idea's
Posted: 7/1/2006 6:29:46 PM
If you're into nightlife, also check out Interlaken Switzerland and the Czech Republic, especially Prague. And, DEFINITELY look into the travel time between your cities. London to Munich by train is probably at least 10 hours. Munich to Salzburg can't be more than 2 or 3, but Munich to Vienna is at least 8-10. If you ever choose to take a night train, you and your brother should sleep in shifts.

Lonely Planet publishes a very good guidebook of Europe to help choose destinations, places to stay and eat, etc. If the length of your trip is restricted by budget, I'd recommend that you look into Busabout and then spend a lot of time countries in the former Communist bloc. Busabout is the cheapest way to go but it takes longest, and anything formerly Communist is dirt cheap. London and Munich are two of Europe's most expensive cities, but there are a lot of undiscovered treasures in the East. Just don't count on getting into Russia.

Jock vs. Nerd
Posted: 7/1/2006 12:34:25 PM
most jocks I know all they want to do is talk about sports, drink budweiser and brag about what studds they are. I hate sports and hate budweiser so that leaves me out. Also jocks well most of them dont really read books

Me I am a true nerd

I love music and want it on records first then CD's
I talk about music and bands most of the time
I read books
I watch documentaries
I wear converse all stars rather than nike

most nerds I know all they want to do is play with their computers, drink apple juice, and brag about how intelligenttt they are. I hate Dungeons and Dragons and hate chocolate milk so that leaves me out. Also nerds well most of them don't really like social interaction.

Me I am a true jock

I love music and want it more than the technology
I like music AND Nike AND sports so I'm not just talking about bands most of the time
I have friends
I have an active fantasy life
I take care of how I look

NOW...

Before you all flame me, go look at my profile. I am not a jock. I am a nerd, and I think these stereotypes are ridiculous.

How much luggage are you bringing? If you have less than 1 carry on and one checked bag each, you should look into some of the cheaper airlines. They're even better than Eurorail but they require a little more planning. A few of these are BerlinAir, RyanAir, EasyJet, and GermanWings. They're the quickest and easiest way to get on and off the British Isles; you'd save a lot of time and money. When using these airlines, pay special attention to the locations of the airports because they sometimes use airports located in the middle of nowhere. RyanAir is notorious for this.

Near Munich, you should try to reach Salzburg Austria if possible. Heidelberg And Rothenberg Germany are also very nice and close to each other, although Rothenburg is very tourist-oriented. Lucerne Switzerland is an absolute must-see and Paris is very close to both the Netherlands and London. Berlin is more out of the way, but there's so much to see there. If it weren't so far out of your way, I would also suggest Cracow Poland. There is so much more to see, but these are the biggest that come to mind.

Religious/Evil Themes in Rock/Metal Music
Posted: 6/30/2006 1:01:14 PM
I don't think it's what's in the music. It's what people think they're hearing, and it's more than just marketing. I own one completely benign CD with a flaming pentagram on the cover, and people often judge the pentagram instead of the lyrics. It's like the born-again Christian I knew who thought the Genesis song "Jesus He Knows Me" was a religious celebration. People who want to hear a certain message will find it whether it's there or not. It's never a bad idea to take a closer look at what you're listening to, but artistic license is important too.

If you were once overweight yourself....will you now date a person who is trying to lose weight??
Posted: 6/30/2006 11:17:33 AM
I hate the tone in Msg. 14, but there are one or two grains of insight buried underneath all the crap. I'm no athlete and I understand if a woman will not date me because she wants someone who can keep up with her in that department. From my end, I've lost a lot of weight and I want to keep it off, so I'd like to meet someone with fun interests that are compatible with that. The kind of traveling I enjoy is also incomparably easier without the extra weight. I don't care if a woman is overweight as long as it doesn't affect what we can do together.

How do you define overweight?
Posted: 6/30/2006 10:47:03 AM
I'm new here, and I took the long and convoluted route in my profile. If I didn't feel so silly about it I would have put my clothing sizes in there. I'm 5'10" or 5'11" depending on who's measuring and I wear waist size 36 jeans. They don't fit tight either. I think some people might get falsely accused of lying about their body type. I compared some guys' profiles and there are some who are much larger than me claiming to be average, but I'd feel dishonest answering "average" without an explanation. What is average anymore?

ROME... Italy
Posted: 6/28/2006 7:19:15 PM
The only way to see the Sistine Chapel is to go to the Vatican Museums. They're connected. Make sure you arrive at the museums well before noon because they don't let anyone in after 12:00 or 12:30. If you go at opening time, your wait to get in will be 1-2 hours. If you get to the ticket counter one minute late, they will not let you inside, even if you've been waiting in line for hours.
