I do hereby avow and attest to Mustang's advisement that there will be plenty of variety to liquid refreshments, to suit any palate. I also do hereby avow and attest to the fact that there will be PLENTY of FRIENDLY people there, but you do have to actually join us to discover so. Furthermore, I do hereby avow and attest to Mustang's further concurrence with me on the ONE D#$@! FLIPPIN' C-C-C-COLD SMOKIN' LOUNGE. This has been a free non-political announcement.* Oh, and let's get those numbers climbing everyone. Enough swimming around the bowl and wondering why life seems to be passing you by... jump into the social fray and join us. Most of us don't bite, and I'm sure those that do, have had all their shots !

Hey!!! Great to see you again Sally girl :-D Thank you lonerider and shadow for once again ensuring that we keep ourselves socially active and having fun !! The hostesses with the most...errrr...esss? Priceless: Watching complete strangers sing Elvis as he's never been sung before ! Count me and my sister in ! cough I may not sing (yes, go ahead and cheer for those whose ears will be saved the torment) because I've still got a cold, but that won't keep me from enjoying the 'esprit de corp' of everyone from our pond having a great time socializing and being entertained (or entertaining).

What is it with 50+ women and wanting to stay single??? Posted: 8/1/2008 4:23:08 PM
How can I avoid that back of mind feeling that the intention is either not honest, or that it will probably change? Perhaps you might find more success if you state that your goal is marriage in your profile, instead of just dating (ie. relationship = long term). That's not to say that your dating goal isn't marriage, but for myself, I do check that before responding to messages to see if we're on the same figurative page. Also, unless you've used another username on this site, it looks as though you're relatively new to the pond. Patience will also help in your fishing expedition. Good luck in your quest!

Thank you to shadow and lonerider for organizing us, once again... the hostesses with the mostess ! I hope to see a great turn out from all our local, and not so local, 'Fishes'. These meets are a wonderful way to meet in a safe and fun environment. I'm sittin' here wondering how you keep your job? This was my thought too, as I read the OP. For someone to be habitually late, whether it's in their career or personal life, shows a complete lack of regard for others and inability to follow through on a commitment. Commitment: you promise to be somewhere at a certain time, the other party makes arrangements accordingly, and you routinely miss your own deadline. This would say to me, if my SO was constantly unable to meet his own timelines, that even early on in this relationship I was being taken for granted and not appreciated or respected. From my perspective, it's definitely a big red flag -- for him. Saying all this though, this 'time management problem' is something completely within your own control and ability to correct, should you choose to. The first step is recognizing what the problem is, which you've done. Now all you need to do is work towards eliminating that as a barrier between you and a solid relationship. As the poster above me said, you sound like you have a very full and overly busy life right now, without time or space for someone else. Maybe now would be a good time for you to work on you, before entering a relationship. Best of luck to you !

Interesting informal survey. I wonder where that survey was conducted and if the results would have been quite different had it been held in a different geographic location . Say, urban versus rural setting. Or affluent versus working class setting. I do think that might have some impact on these results. JMO I do agree that you're likely to see a person's true feelings when not aware they are being tested, but that to get the complete picture you need to know why they reacted the way they did. It would seem odd to me in any setting to see a man asking for directions, chubby or affluent, though ! Ok ok, I couldn't resist... I did try !!!

Well thank you abby... and may I just say, I was suffering 'tiara' envy last night, and I think it affected my game adversely. Yeah, that's it ! ~wink~ I think we should all wear tiaras next time -- yes, the guys too ! So a great big THANK YOU to everyone who showed up to join the Fish Bowl. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and got a chance to mingle amongst the bowlers. And maybe, just maybe, a few 'connections' were made last night. And a special *THANK YOU* to my co-hosts lonerider and Irish Angel - two wonderful ladies indeed ! We'll get some pictures posted as soon as lonerider gets a chance to send them to me. I really enjoyed myself too last night, but then I usually do. For those folks that were unable to attend - maybe you'll be able to make our next meet 'n greet (Irish Angel promised last night that she'd organize it... remember? )

Countdown to bowl off !! Please try to be at the lanes for 9 pm, as there is a Saturday night league at the Bolorama until 9. It's a pretty small place, so we don't wanna innundate em trying to get out. We can start bowling around 9:15 once folks have signed in and teams have been formed. See everybody there ... remember, the ball goes TOWARD the pins -- NOT the other way (honest spunky, I wasn't directing this at you ).

Good morning all you Bowling Fish ! Well, tonight's the Fish Bowl and it looks like we'll have more than enough bowlers AND revelers -- but we can always accommodate more !! So sign up if you're interested in finding something fun to do on a winter's eve. The hosts and I will be formulating teams at the Bolorama tonight, once people sign in their attendance and participation. This will be a completely non-scientific process that will try to keep the women/men split even on each lane for (I hope) two games. We have the place for two hours from the time we start bowling / dancing / cheering / fishing ! Looking forward to seeing everyone out and having fun !

I hope you're feeling better soon (stay warm too). Welcome to the Fish Bowl to make it right, wigglyworm and young sask heart ! It's going to be a great time and I'm looking forward to seeing those I've met already and meeting those that are new to these gatherings. ! Just a reminder that my fellow hosts and I will be organizing the Teams (somewhat) to try to keep the gender balance on the lanes (we wouldn't want the ladies to show up the gents too badly with our bowling style and finesse now would we? ).

Welcome welcome, fullerman, to the Fish Bowl ! Well I have booked the entire 10 lanes for us, as it looks like we'll have at least 40 bowlers Saturday. But, people are more than welcome to continue signing up. We can certainly bowl six to a lane if necessary !! And, I have pre-warned Julianna's Pizza that they may see a convergence of 30 to 40 people after 11 Saturday ... and they will be ready for us.

I love British comedy too ! Little Britain is especially irreverant and hilarious !! "We're just two ladies don't you know" "uh uh uh" "Margaret, there's a fellow here who wants to know if we have any books on yellow breasted swallows that migrate to the North Pole" Monty Python "He's not dead -- he's pining for the fjords" "I came here for an arguement -- no you didn't -- yes I did -- you did not -- that's not arguing, you're just being contrary -- no I'm not -- yes you are" to cite just a few examples of what cracks me up amongst those. Marty Feldmen in Young Frankenstein driving the coach with Terri Garr back to FrankenstEEn castle -- Cloris Leachman's character (who's name escapes me) .. at the mention of her name throughout the movie, the horses in the barn whinney !! Steve Martin.....I think I have all of his albums. And Stephen Wright. Oh, and almost anything my 3 yr old nephew tells me ! That child has a gift for the gab... and in such an earnest manner. These people all crack me up !

I second the OP. It would be nice if folks who take offence to smoking didn't make overtures or contact with people who clearly indicate on their profile that they smoke. Interestingly, I have met fellows who are non-smokers who don't mind befriending or dating a lady who smokes occasionally.... but there's always one who thinks I'm going to quit for them. While I may want to quit, the only good reason for me to quit would be because I want to. For now, when life feels particularly stressful or hectic, nothing quite seems to calm me quite like a cigarette.

I think for any 'old' relationships to work out, it would really depend on the reason the relationship ended to begin with. And, if the issue(s) that existed then is/are either gone or resolved. I've been there, having a former long term relationship try to rekindle our relationship. And the only thing I'm thankful for, out of that 'lil experiment, was that it reminded me very clearly why he was an 'ex' and not current relationship. Besides, don't we learn something new about ourselves with each relationship we experience in our lives -- things like what our boundaries, needs, wants, and desires are? And haven't those changed as we've matured? Then again, maybe not. So, like the song says.... "I'm lookin' for a new love baby, new love, yeah yeah yeah"

I have a friend, who happens to be fast approaching 60 (he won't publically admit it though) and he and I have had discussion about this very topic for many years. It usually starts with me listening to his dating woes (he has a penchant for the fine young things two or three decades younger than him) and me commenting that he shouldn't be surprised at the same results each time, considering these fine young things are at least one generation behind him ! His arguement is: women his age just can't keep up to him, they are all going through menopause or not as active as him. I think it's interesting to hear a spin on this, in reverse, because I've always felt that his idea of 'active' and mine were completely different ends of the spectrum. I think he would actually have a tough time keeping up with women his age ! OT: My experience with men over 50 seems to indicate that they can still talk/type/think/dream as though they were 18 ?

And a great big welcome to wrangler110 -- welcome to the Fish Bowl. I had a member message me to ask for clarification on what I meant when I said "preferences" in my opening post to this thread. I replied thusly and am providing this response to assist anyone else with the same question: By preferences, I mean that if two people have been chatting on here and would like an opportunity to bowl in the same lanes for one game (remember we are playing more than one game if we can), than we will try to accommodate that. This is a way to meet n greet fellow POFers, which includes first meet opportunities for many folks too. So, keep those sign ups coming folks -- it's a great big pond (ice fishing anyone) !

Alrighty folks, we're getting down to two weeks before "Bowl Off", so be sure to get your sign up button up so I can make sure we have enough lanes to accommodate our group. It promises to be a fun evening (hey, isn't almost everything if that's what you decide to make of it), with great opportunities to meet your fellow POFers in a fun environment. If you've been chatting with someone, and can't quite decide where or how to meet, this is perfect !! Welcome, welcome to abbynormal ! And welcome to POF -- it's a great community for meeting and interacting with other people looking to make connections. As Mustang Sally (ohhhh you ROCK too sistah ) stated -- lots of friendships are formed at these meet 'n greets. They are (for me) the perfect venue for networking in a fun, social and safe environment -- ok, that's barring anyone having a bowling mishap (see previous post about my first aid certification). Keep those sign ups coming folks, and if you are just a little nervous about coming out for the first time, please don't hesitate to message one of the hosts and we will be more than happy to convince you to join us in this Fish Bowl ! ps. And a hearty welcome to Scottish Soul ! ~ Irish Angel ~ got it right, let's fill the Fish Bowl so that we might even need to expand our aquarium !! I've booked six lanes for us, and the place only has ten lanes -- it would be very easy for us to fill the place (4 people to a lane, 10 lanes, 40 people). And if this proves to be a successful event for the folks attending, maybe we can become a regular 'winter' monthly get together (gets everybody out despite the c-c-c-c-cold weather). Sturgeon General Warning: While no aquatic equipment is required to participate in this Fish Bowl, frequent 'fits' of laughter, snorting, guffawing and possibly even schmoozing is expected to occur which could possibly cause some breathing difficulty. Feel free to ask one of your fellow Fish for breathing assistance.

As it is a 'neon' bowling event, you might want to make sure that anything you're wearing that will be reflected by the black lights, isn't something that you wouldn't ordinarily want folks to know yer wearing.

Welcome to the Fish Bowl Reggie and Olympics 2007 ! I can attest to the fact that Irish Angel sure does seem to spend alot of time cleaning out the gutters with her bowling balls -- but then so did most of us !! It certainly will be a fun evening. And for those that might have bowling balls go astray, not naming names but her initials are s-p-u-n-k-y-k-i-s-s-e-r I have first aid training ! ~wink~ And let me also join Irish Angel in wishing everyone a joy-filled Christmas celebration, along with good health and prosperity in 2008.
