does anyone else here feel the testosterone that's wafting in the air?

No. But I smell a lot of bullshit.

It's an intriguing idea. I might try it, and see what happens. Couldn't hurt.

The Pack lost both their starting guards too. I don't know if they plan to use guys already on their roster, or replace them through free agency or the draft. But that is an area that needs to be addressed also. The offensive line is important to both the passing and the running game.

Yeah. That is what worries me about him (injuries). But I think at this point in free agency the Chiefs had become beggars. And beggars can't be choosers. Not that they didn't want Bell. I just doubt he was their first choice. But Bell had also become a beggar because of his injury history. No free agent is without risks though. Hopefully he pans out.

This is pure conjecture, but I think there are two factors that have been hurting the Chiefs in free agency.

1. I have a feeling that they didn't want to pay more than a 10 mil signing bonus to anyone. And for a lot of the top free agents that's just a good starting point.

2. I think they wanted to sign long contracts, and a lot of free agents probably wanted shorter contracts so they could jet if things didn't go so well.

Oh well. One down. Two to go. Now we need a good CB and that's it for free agency. The rest can be addressed in the draft. But I feel those two positions needed to be addressed in free agency.

Yep. Lost another loan to Ditech.

It was easy to get excited that the Chiefs might sign Rolle after that press release that I posted. But I'm over it already. There are still a few options at CB right now. Smoot (who no one is talking to for some reason), Law (injury concern though), Dyson (also not a lot of interest yet, but a fine corner), Surtain (The Chiefs still have the option to trade thier #2 for him), Woodson (The Raiders are sure to shop him around), I have even read that Miami is considering getting rid of Sam Madison as well, and completely rebuilding.

Right now, I am more concerned about LB for the Chiefs. They need a middle linebacker and there aren't many choices available. They have to make a huge push for Hartwell!!!! If they can land Hartwell, it would make them more attractive to one of those corners listed above as well.

Rolle update: Former Titans cornerback Samari Rolle wrapped up his visit to Kansas City yesterday.

On Wednesday night he had dinner with Chiefs Coach****Vermeil and defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who coached linebackers for the Titans for three seasons.

''It's a first-class organization and it was a first-class treatment,'' Rolle said. ''It was good seeing (Cunningham), good going out to dinner with him and catching up. He is a class act, still.''

Asked his time frame is for getting a deal done with the Chiefs, Rolle said: ''Probably by tomorrow, I think.''

Several teams have expressed an interest in Rolle, who was released by the Titans last week after seven seasons with the team. It's unclear if he'll make any visits to other teams.

''I don't know,'' Rolle said. ''I have to sit down with my wife and agent and go from there.''

I just looked and I didn't see anything about that on either ESPN, or The NFL site. I did, however, see that the Giants signed Antonio Pierce. So much for that idea. I'm sure the Chiefs are showing interest in Trotter though. They are most interested in the CB market (finally. I have been screaming for it for the past 3, or 4 years). I bet that is the only position they intend to spend 'big' money for in free agency. I still wouldn't scream if they traded Priest for Surtain, although I'm sure others would. But they would definitely be wise to re-sign Blaylock if they did that.

Here's my plan for the Chiefs in free agency.

Trade Priest Holmes to the Dolphins for Patrick Surtain.

Re-sign Derrick Blaylock. Let Blaylock and Larry Johnson battle it out for starter.

Sign Kevin Johnson. Cut Johnnie Morton.

Sign LB Antonio Pierce to man the middle.

Address all other needs through the draft.

Basically, this is a cap friendly plan. I think a lot of teams can learn from what the Patriots do. Cut big name talent before they start to decline while still costing big money. Find low priced free agents and use the draft. Just make sure the players fit your system. Sometimes teams go after a big name, but the player doesn't fit the system. The only big name player in my plan is Surtain. But that is a huge need for the Chiefs. But by trading Holmes, the cap hit won't be that great. Plus both Blaylock and Johnson proved they could run the ball last year. Let them do it for less money than Priest combined.

That's been true too. Usually teams hate to give a player up to a divisional rival. But on the other hand, they are more familiar with players from their own division since they meet twice each season. And in the case of a free agent signing, they really don't have much choice unless they care to give a better offer to the player.

I could see the Chiefs trading for C-Wood, but not the Broncos. I think they will ride it out with Champ and Herndon. I would rather see the Chiefs sign a free CB without giving up their #1 pick which could then be used for a LB. It's surprising how many free agent signings and trades in the AFC west stay within the division though.

Charles Woodson for Edge? Could help both teams and would be fairly equal as far as salary cap. But both teams would still need to shed some cap room elsewhere.

It's probably more likely that the Raiders will get a rookie RB with their 2nd round pick. I wonder who they will get rid of to get under the cap. They are currently about 60 million over. I have a feeling that their D will suffer for the upgrade to the offense. Especially since they have a lot of older, expensive players on D. But replacing them with productive, but cheaper players will be difficult.

Yeah. I'm a Chiefs fan. And Peterson is still the GM.

I would like to get Law, because he has a few good years left and would provide vetern leadership for a young defense. He would also bring some rings to get the juices flowing in the locker room. Finally he would add some toughness.

I don't think they can sign that many free agents. Maybe two on the defensive side then add more D players (and only D players) on the first day of the draft.

I like Cowart, but I wouldn't go after him. He is too injury prone.

I would like to see Ty Law in a Chief's uniform. But that price tag is a hefty one. I doubt they will pursue him.

I'm surprised you aren't talking about Randy Moss, Crossfade.

The Chiefs need to get a few good bodies in their secondary quick!!

Yes, Belichick has earned the right to have his name mentioned along with those other great coaches, just as the Pats of this decade have earned the right to be mentioned along side the great teams of previous decades. But in both cases, it is futile to argue who is best. They stand on a plateau together.

The woman that took my virginity, I didn't even tell her. She never knew. If she had asked how many people I had been with, I would have told her the truth, but she never asked. I had found that if I told women, they were reluctant.

With all the quality RB's in the draft, I bet the Raiders will go that route. Would you like a new 'Cadillac', or maybe his team-mate, Ronnie Brown? No Cedric Benson for you unless they trade up. But I'm pretty sure he will be a dolphin.

I think the Chiefs should make a bid for Ty Law in free agency for several reasons. 1. He's a quality CB. 2. He would provide vetern leadership for what figures to be a young defense. 3. He'll bring a few Super Bowl rings to flash around the locker room for motivation.

The RB position is strong this year for the draft. Teams in need of a RB (ahem- Raiders), are in luck this year.

I hope my Chiefs get a vetern free agent CB. There are several good ones that may be available. Then spend the top three picks in the draft on other defensive positions. Particularly a quality middle linebacker.

Noodler,

Actually, Vermeil was in St. Louis for 3 years and he retired after they won the super bowl. Then the Chiefs wooed him out of retirement just a couple short years later and were forced to give the Rams a second round pick in compensation.
