The one that got away!

They only got away because they managed to chew through their own foot....
Ehh... I've run into a couple of the ex's and, while I'm sure I'm not the finest bachelor of 2006, I don't really regret not remaining involved with them.
Especially with one, I felt a whole lot better after that one ended! Besides... while I believe those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it, I also believe that if you spend too much time looking back, you tend to ignore the scenery ahead of you...

I actually had a couple of them.. two teachers around the same period of time. An English/Art teacher and, if you believe it, My shop teacher. Both went way out of their way to help Me... the English teacher bought Me an art book for graduation, she took Me to an Emily Carr seminar once and was the teacher who helped Me take Canadian History through correspondance because no other student wanted to take it. When I graduated she was moving with her husband and even talked to My folks about Me moving down to Vancouver with them to live/stay/go to her old school if I wanted...
My shop teacher was awesome, funny guy, smart as hell. He would go outside on the weekends and throw the football around with Me since we lived in the same area as most of the teachers did. We'd talk about the future and school, what I was interested in, he'd make suggestions to help Me. He opened up the shop to Me on weekends and late after schools to work on projects if I wanted.. and he had a great sense of humor. I remember at his farewell dinner I was babysitting his daughter when some of the teachers "kidnapped" his homemade cannoe that he was VERY proud of. When he got back it turned out to be a treasure hunt and both him and I drove around till 3am that night finding clues, laughing and talking...
They really had a profound affect on Me and I'd like to think the two of them continued having that affect on many more students...

Why Do Guys Quit Dancing after 40?
Posted:
7/23/2006 12:22:03 PM
Well, personally I'll dance when I'm having a good time.. that said I work in a night club and don't exactly get the chance to dance that often. I DJ on the weekends at the club and, if I can sneak in a bit of a dance between songs that's cool... but I honestly love playing and selecting the music that'll make women go out there and dance, shake it, grind, just have a great time in general...

Ladies, do you prefer bald or with hair?
Posted:

I've had long hair and I've had short hair... I've had long hair with shaved sides (not a mullet, the sides and back were shaved, pulled back in a ponytail *lol*) but I gotta say that I like having a shaved head. It's cool in the summer, quick dry, it just feels better. Plus its an ocupational bonus.. no one can grab My hair while I'm throwing them out the doors...
The only bad thing though is at places like this they just have "bald" as a hair option. I wish they had "bald by choice"

Overweight - Health Disorder?
Posted:
7/21/2006 10:06:53 AM
I'm gonna say that I am a big guy, fairly big actually. I will also say that in the past while I've worked very hard to loose weight and have been sucessful, I still have work to do, who doesn't?
I would like to also say that I agree... that with some, portion control, healthier eating choices, etc is a vast problem. We seem to be a consumable society... but limiting the calories, sugars, etc and drinking more watre, eating more fruits and veggies is a good thing, fat or skinny.
However... that all being said..
For those people who are already offended...I think I hear the Ice cream truck outside.
It's comments like that that completely negate the validity of an otherwise good post. It seems a close minded, smarmy, and even biggoted view... almost a predjudicial outlook on overweight people. I can understand your concerns with health etc... but that look about overweight people is probably one of the only socially acceptable forms of discrimination around. You make a comment about colored people and people will chide you, you make a comment about "fat people" and it's giggles and titters.
I'm not making excuses for My size, I don't blame anyone but Myself. Perhaps genetics and My health play a part but I don't need a crutch to stand on. I eat healthier now, I excises, in highschool and college I was on every team, played football.. I'm in good shape (My doctor says) for My age and the fact I'm losing weight he's quite pleased with.
I'll applaude your concerns about this.. perhaps there are places for people like you in this world. Maybe you're just what's needed to make people see that they're in need of a helathier alternative. However, lumping everyone together is no different than saying "boy those mexicans.." or "geez all those asians..."
Passion and conviction are one thing, bluntness and straight forwardness is another thing... but mass generalizations and "from the hip" commentary is a whole other thing entirely.

Introduce Yourself Here....
Posted:
7/16/2006 3:59:16 AM
Okay... introduce yourself huh?
I gotta Use My brain! Think melodrama! Parrody everything! Slapstick! Let My imagination sprout into something firm yet soft... I... I...
I dunno. Last time I was diagnosed I was told I was suffering from several classic freudian maladies. Among them, oedipal complex, penis envy, and a severe need for something warm and soft. I thought nothing can be done for the near antisocial mess that is Me. I thought I might be doomed to a life of paranioa and lonlinesss because some people consider Me too dangerous to Myself and society at large.
However I found My way here due to some friends, the real kind, not the ones the doctors say I can't play with anymore! I'm 32, My name's Darren, I'm from the northern part of BC and I really just want to get to know some interesting folks with some sense of humor.
So! In order to do this I promise I'll be nice and take My methadone every day. Honest injun, scouts honor, hope to die, stick a pitchfork in My eye. I'm off the pixie stix, high on life.. but I keep the sock puppet.. it's in My contract. Really.
I think I need to get some kleenex now though...

What are your fave movie quotes?

Eric Draven: Suddenly their came a tapping, as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. You heard me rapping, right?
~the crow
Dominic Toretto: I live my life a quarter mile at a time, nothing else matters, for those ten seconds or less, I'm free.
~fast and the furious
Tyler Durden: You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your ****ing khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.
~fight club
Tyler Durden: You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else.
~fight club
Harley Davidson: It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool.
~Harley Davidson and the Malboro Man
Marlboro: Squeeze the trigger, don't yank it, it's not your****
~Harley Davidson and the Malboro Man
Mrs. Murphy: Dade?
Dade Murphy: Yeah, ma?
Mrs. Murphy: What are you doing?
Dade Murphy: I'm taking over a TV network.
Mrs. Murphy: Finish up, honey, and get to sleep.
~hackers
[Inigo slices Count Rugen's cheek, then holds him at swordpoint]
Inigo Montoya: Offer me money.
Count Rugen: Yes.
Inigo Montoya: Power, too. Promise me that.
[slices Count Rugen's other cheek]
Count Rugen: All that I have and more. Please...
Inigo Montoya: Offer me everything I ask for.
Count Rugen: Any thing you want.
[He parries Inigo's blade aside, and lunges with his sword. Inigo meets Rugen's lunge, catching his sword arm and putting his sword to Rugen's belly]
Inigo Montoya: I want my father back, you son of a ****.
[stabs and kills Count Rugen]
~The Princess Bride
Prince Humperdinck: First things first, to the death.
Westley: No. To the pain.
Prince Humperdinck: I don't think I'm quite familiar with that phrase.
Westley: I'll explain and I'll use small words so that you'll be sure to understand, you warthog faced buffoon.
Prince Humperdinck: That may be the first time in my life a man has dared insult me.
Westley: It won't be the last. To the pain means the first thing you will lose will be your feet below the ankles. Then your hands at the wrists. Next your nose.
Prince Humperdinck: And then my tongue I suppose, I killed you too quickly the last time. A mistake I don't mean to duplicate tonight.
Westley: I wasn't finished. The next thing you will lose will be your left eye followed by your right.
Prince Humperdinck: And then my ears, I understand let's get on with it.
Westley: WRONG. Your ears you keep and I'll tell you why. So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, "Dear God! What is that thing," will echo in your perfect ears. That is what to the pain means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever.
Prince Humperdinck: I think your bluffing.
Westley: It's possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It's conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I'm only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. But, then again... perhaps I have the strength after all.
[slowly rises and points sword directly at the prince]
Westley: DROP... YOUR... SWORD!
[mouth hanging open, drops sword to floor]

why are there more bi women than bi men?
Posted:
7/15/2006 3:07:33 PM
Well, if you think about it.. before being "out" was acceptable what was the thing that most guys used to bug each other about when they're younger? "you're gay!" etc... mind you I still hear that today but it is more socially acceptable (for the most part) to be who you really are...
That said though... two guys kissing is still going to illicit some stares, rude comments, etc. My boss is gay, he's a great guy, a good friend too... but people still treat him like he's a second class person when he holds his boyfriend's hand.
I'm sure there's a lot more bi, or bi-curious guys out there but they just don't feel brave enough to come forward or aren't comfortable enough in who they are by being that. I will sya this though.. workingin a night club once guys have a few drinks you wouldn't believe how many guys seem to lean towards the bisexual side of things, they can blame it on the booze then.. *lol*

What is normal these days?
Posted:
7/15/2006 12:37:01 PM
It wasn't too long ago that someone did a study and, roughly quoting the comedian Christopher Titus, "over 70% of the population is considered 'dysfunction' now you know what that means? We're the majority!" *lol*
I have to say too that it's the "normal" people that scare the living hell out of Me sometimes. You wanna get slapped on the ass with a belt? Cool. You like to wear a mask and hump a plush carebear? Good on ya. At least you wear that on your sleeve...
It's the "Leave it to Beaver" people that frighten the crap out of Me because whatever they do (and they ALL do something) is so horrific it NEVER sees the light of day *lol*
Besides, as many people have said... normal is kinda boring, differences make things a hell of a lot more interesting. No one wants a normal person, they think they do.. it's beat into you from a young age. You want someone who'll capture your attention, your desire, your imagination, your passions..
and sometimes white bread and mayo sandwhichs then holding hands and missionary sex just doesn't cut it... *chuckle*

Willing to settle....

Kinda makes marriage and a relationship seem like a soul-less business arrangement rather than a real relationship...
I can understand completely the deisre not to live out your days with 50 cats, or being the "weird old person at the end of the street" screaming at the whippersnappers for leaving flaming bags of dog-doo on your welcome mat....
however, why should anyone have to settle?
I'd rather be alone than have to just settle so that I wasn't alone. You could grow to like the person, maybe it would work out... you could end up resenting the person too.
Also what if your soul mate manages to appear? Then you this other person "see ya pal.."? do you say that right away? "this is only good until something better comes along.."
Like I said, I'd rather be alone and hang out with friends than settle..

Hitting on you From a Woman's point of view
Posted:
7/14/2006 8:55:58 PM
Seems like I'm in the same boat as a few of the guys here have said, I seem to have been born/blessed with blinders of some sort. I just assume a woman is being social/friendly most of the time.. it -can- take a good cavegirl *thump* on the skull to jarr me into tune. I know that can be frustrating, I've been told that's frustrating.. *lol*
However... on the flip side, in this day and age? It seems really hard to pay a lady a compliment, at least I've found. In My case I don't exactly... "look" disarming and after saying "excuse Me, you have really pretty eyes.." I have seen hands drifting down to purses where either a set of keys rivaling a 1930's prison guard's set exists or a can of mace/pepperspray resides.. *lol* I feel like the big guy in the Green Mile staring at their.. "deer in the headlights" looks at times...
I've also had women scowl at Me when I open and hold the door for them too, I suppose it all depends on the person. I think though if you find some trait be it physical or otherwise about a person it never hurts to say so..
minus the slaps in the face, the knees to the crotch and the flushing out of the eyes by paramedics... *lol*

ice cream.......

I kinda like strawberry ice cream, though growing up bubblegum and tin rof sundae were good too...
but there was this flavour I had once and I cannot remember the name of it for the life of Me. I was about 10 I think and it was out ONLY for christmas..... it could have been eggnog flavoured, as weird as it sounds.... maybe it was gingerbread man flavoured? I can't recall but it was damn good and I have never seen that kind of ice cream again...
I will say green mint ice cream can make a person sick.. *lol*

Living up to your nic
Posted:

Sure.... when I was a youngin' I had a family enforced belief in Catholosism so Ilearned all about those wicked Seven Sins. As I grew older and formed My own opinion I realized that most of those Seven Sins were a base root of a good life.. *chuckle*
I use it as a reminder that life is short and you might as well do the things you enjoy, revel and relish in them as much as possible, as much as you desire before the ride's over.
That and there was a pretty cool musical intro and exit, almost a nursery rhyme type of thing, at the beginning and end of Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" album..

Shower vs.. Bath
Posted:
7/13/2006 3:24:45 PM
Always liked a good shower over a bath.. I've always thought though if you really wanted a good soaking you could just sit in a hot tub rather than a bath though..
Either one with a partner is certainly more enjoyable no matter the situation or locatiion..

I suppose I have subconciously done it, now that I think about it.. *lol*. I'm sure though that, if you were trying to hide something, etc. you do see the picture before you share it anywhere on here, that you would retake a picture or put it in a place you feel comfortable sharing with folks. It's not something that really detracts from wanting to get to know a person, at least that hasn't happened yet so I shouldn't say it wouldnt.. *lol*

Being controlled
Posted:
7/13/2006 3:01:37 PM
I think people who lead a rather restricted life, possibly growing up, have a definate need/desire to control people. It's simply how they were raised in that environment. It could also be a latent amount of insecurity as I've read in afew threads here as well.. they feel something is beyond them and they try desperately to try to cling tightly to it. That old saying does seem to apply though, the tighter you hold something the more you're apt to destroy it.
I've had a few people in my life try to manipulate and control me. I've also sat down and told them these very things and some people have wised up, some had an explosive reaction to that insight. SOme people simply like being controlled and some like controlling poeple. It takes a whole lot of different strokes to paint a picture...
So long as you're happy in the end, that's really all that matters..

male / female friendships?
Posted:
7/13/2006 2:56:01 PM
Sure men and women can have purely platonic relationships, so long as both people want simply that type of relationship. If that's the desired relationship it can be achieved, though if one desires more than just friendship that's when things can go awry. Too much affection which makes the other person uncomfortable or leery around that person. Expression of feelings that can either blow that person away or let a friendship evolve into something else entirely.
It all depends on truly what people want.
Anything is possible under the proper circumstances.

Guys over 30...do they even exist?
Posted:
7/13/2006 2:50:17 PM
Believe me, we're out here and we're looking as well. Trust me though, I reda in this thread that people over thirty generally don't go out to clubs and it's true. I work in a nightclub and it's predominantly a younger crowd, which is equally frustrating when you're a thirty plus person trying to find someone to spend time with as well because you're deemed "too old" by that younger sect.
But we are out there, we're pretty interesting too... :)
